Lost Platinum Ring Found in Goose Creek, Middleburg Virginia

I recently received a call from a customer, Chris from Arlington Virginia. He provided a brief description of his situation and asked if it was something I could assist him with, I said « absolutely I can help ».  Chris had taken a short Saturday trip to Northern Virginia to do some fly fishing with a friend. They had picked a beautiful area in Loudoun County, specially Middleburg, Virginia. As Chris was fishing and moving through the creek he had stumbled hands first into the water. He had hit with such force that his left hand was in a lot of pain which caused him to start shaking his hand vigorously to alleviate some of the pain. After returning to his vehicle a short while later is when he realized the ring was gone. As with most of us these days with teleworking we arranged to meet on the following Saturday. With no rain in the forecast we both agreed the water levels should more than likely stay low and calm, that was the hope.

Chris was fishing in a small section of Goose Creek, which is a 53.9-mile-long tributary of the Potomac River, somewhat adjacent to the Goodstone Inn. After a very scenic drive through large sections of horse ranch country, even had to stop once for a few horses and several dozen hounds on the road,  we met on along the roadside of the creek. As we had to trek the path to the spot where he had been fishing Chris donned his waders and I slipped on my wetsuit, a little overkill on my part for a creek, but you never know when you’ll hit a drop off.

Once we reached the area Chris identified where he had fallen I did a quick scan in the running water portion first, then more specifically where he indicated. Within less than 5 minutes the ring came up easily out of the mud and leaves. Chris was astonished it was found so quickly and extremely excited to see his ring again. Jokingly, Chris’ friend had believed the ring was gone forever and that we wouldn’t find it. Always keep hope!!

*** Jordan is a student at University of California Irvine, Irvine, CA. He had been on a early morning run on campus when he heard a small ping of a key hitting the cement walkway. He immediately knew it had to be his mail box key which was on his ID tag that is attached by a lanyard.

He was sure it had hit he concrete sidewalk bouncing into the grass. Updated me with the details. It was a short drive for me, less than four miles from my location. He could meet me there in fifteen minutes. Perfect, I was on my way and it sounded like an easy search. 

We met soon after the call. Jordan walked me to a large lawn area pointing across the grass. My heart sank, now the story seemed to change. It has happened more than once. Then he told me the sidewalk was the other side of the large grassy field. 

After walking over the field the spot narrowed down to 5 feet. I got two targets right away, the second one was the brass or bronze key.. Awesome!, I thought I was into two or three hour search. Jordan thought he might have to pay for the loss of the key plus the cost of a new key. Two happy people off to enjoy the rest of a beautiful day.

Lost White Gold Wedding Band at Aulani Resort Lagoon…FOUND!!!

This ring find began when I got a call from Joe who was on his Honeymoon at the Aulani Resort and coming from Chicago, Illinois. While enjoying the cool waters of the lagoon with his lovely bride Angela his White Gold Wedding Band slipped off and disappeared into the soft sand. They tried searching but it’s hopeless the sand is so soft every ring disappears at Aulani. Tony from the Beach Crew got word and told Joe to give me a call. The day was young, the surf and tide was low and Joe & Angela were leaving the next morning so I told Joe I’d grab my gear and head over to the resort. When I arrived Joe had already drawn marks in the sand for my grid search so I was able to start immediately. On about the fifth leg and in waist deep water I got a nice « 15-16 » tone on the Nox and in one scoop there was Joe’s White Gold Band shining in the scoop. I motioned to Joe & Angela on the beach chairs and they ran down to meet me on the shoreline. Perfect Fit! Honeymoon saved. We shared a few laughs and Mahalos and I made it home in time for dinner. Another lost ring found ! Dauphin Island, Alabama

I saw a post this morning on our local beach page – someone had also tagged my ringfinders page. I had to run a quick errand and then headed to Dauphin Island, Alabama to see if I could help out. Thankfully it was a smallish area – her husband had felt his wedding ring slip off his finger as he made a hand motion while standing on the porch. It only took a quick 15 minute hunt with my Equinox and 15” coil to retrieve the band from the sand where it fell last night. Success ! successful recovery !

Car Key Fob Lost in Sand at Newport Beach, CA. .. Found and Returned

I was metal defecting at Corona del Mar State Beach in the city of Newport Beach, CA. When I spotted an area that looked like someone had been searching for a lost item. No body was near, so out of curiosity I ran my detector over the zone. Boom!  I dug up a brand new key fob for a Audi Suv car.

I usually turn car keys into the lifguards as that is the first place people go to see if their keys had been found. It was late, the lifeguard office was closed. I detected in the area for another hour hoping the people would return. Now it was dark so, I decided I would drive up to the street above the beach hoping to see a mobile lock service, AAA helping a keyless car owner.

Just for fun I pushed on the key fob buttons and Bingo, I found the Audi Suv.. I waited about a half hour then decided to leave two notes, with my contact information. ( one inside and one in the windshield )

The next morning I received a call from the owner. He was very grateful. He had a share set of keys but they were 450 miles away in San Francisco, CA.. The dealership told him it would be 3 or 4 weeks before they could get him another set of keys. 

Every thing worked out the way it was suppose to be. What is next?

I received a call back in May about several sentimental and valuable items lost in a house fire in New Jersey. After several phone calls and a long wait for permits to enter the home site, we were finally able to search for the lost family heirlooms this weekend.

The fire had taken the home down to the foundation which made the recovery search very difficult. The effort continued over the course of a few days. I was able to recover the gold family heirlooms from the sad and tragic loss.

Lost White Gold Wedding Band at Aulani Resort Lagoon…FOUND!!!

This ring find began when I got a call from Tim who was vacationing at the Aulani Resort coming from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. While swimming in the lagoon as he was treading water in about 6-7 foot depth he felt his white gold wedding band slip off. Him and another friend immediately got some snorkel gear to hunt but it was useless. The soft lagoon sand consumed the ring. The beach team gave him my number and I agreed to come out after eating my lunch and packing my scuba gear. When I arrived Tim and his friend explained to me the circumstances to the loss but had different ideas as to the depth. I said how about I start at 7 feet and work deeper. They thought that would work. After about an hour without finding the ring and only two pieces of metal trash. I had a hunch it might be shallower. Sure enough on the fourth leg working shallower I got a boom on the Excalibur and after two fans there was Tim’s white gold band shimmering in the afternoon sunlight. I was relieved as that was nearly two hours dive hunting. Tim was out of the dog house with his wife and so thankful I came right out to recover his ring. Aloha to Tim!

LOST – Lady’s white gold cluster diamond ring – Kill Devil Hills, OBX – FOUND!!

On Friday my wife and I went on a fishing boat.  We didn’t catch much, but we had a beautiful day complete with a pod of mamma and baby dolphins near out boat.  When I got back, I was taking a nap when I got a call from Stephanie, who works with me at Beach Realty and Construction in Kitty Hawk.

She explained that she had lost her white gold cluster diamond ring which she had since 1971!  She said she had backtracked everywhere she was yesterday including calling some offices she had visited.  The only other thing she could think of was some yard cleanup she did when she returned from her appointments.  She had taken some tomato plants out of a planter box and had tossed them in an area of vines to pick up later.

I fired up the Eq 800 and began a cursory look about the tomato box.  I got a great hit…only to find two metal trivets under the box.  I went on to the area where she had tossed the plant.  I was getting multiple hits and lots of them.  But they were underground and if the ring was here, it would be on top.

Just then, I got a target that was changing…2, 7, 4, 6…but it was right on top.  All of a sudden,  in the ivy I spotted the glimmer of shiny silver!  I reached down and picked up the ring that was hidden in the green ground cover.  Voila!  Another happy person receives her ring back!!!

A Lost Ring at the Beach – How to Find my Ring in the Sand! Ruth lost her ring at the same beach where she married 13 years ago! Ruth took off her three rings to apply suntan lotion and placed the rings in her beach bag. She carried on with her day, forgetting to put the rings back on her finder. A couple of hours later, Ruth realized she had removed her cover-up and t-shirt from her beach bag. Ruth searched her belongings for the forgotten rings in a scramble and found two of the three lost rings. The most meaningful ring, her diamond wedding band, was missing. Ruth contacted me, and we were able to meet on the beach later that day. Within a few minutes of searching the sand for the lost ring with my metal detector, Ruth’s ring was back on her finger!
