Wedding Set Recovered in Long Branch by Dennis Burlingame

Got a call from fellow Ring Finder Matty St Germain asking if I could go to Long Branch for a recovery. He gave me the number to Andrew who was on the beach for Labor Day with his family, and mom and dad. Seems his mom after getting settled in took off her rings to put lotion on and placed them on her lap and got distracted. Went to move her chair then remembered her rings but it was to late. 3 rings totaled but they could only find 1 sifting through the sand with their hands. He was on his way to get a rake to see if that would help when they found Matty on Ring Finders and called out to him. He couldn’t make it so he called me. Andrew’s father met me and took me down to the beach where they were sitting and showed me where mom was sitting and where they found the first ring. I checked from the chair out to the area they found the first ring and within a foot of where that one was I found the other two. Please excuse the photos, in a rush I left on phone in my car and had to have the dad take the pictures for me. All in all a Happy Ending for all and they can go and enjoy the rest of the holiday.

Gold Ring Lost in Sand at Los Angeles County Beach .. Recovered by a RingFinder

*** Shone was given a unique gold ring that her mother had worn for more than 27 years. While visiting friends on the Strand at Manhattan Beach, CA. , Shone lost her ring in the sand while playing with a volleyball.  She was devastated because it was a ring that had been promised to her for years. To make it worse, she had only worn it for four days before losing it.

One of the members of her family located me by using the internet. I drove to the location, where they met me. They showed me a 40’x 40ft  area they believed the ring to be. Halfway through the grid search I got that sweet tone of a gold ring in my headphones. One scoop revealed Shane’s gold ring. There were plenty of onlookers to celebrate the successful recovery. It was a pleasure to be available to help find this very special ring for Shone. I love doing what I do and making smiles.

Broken bracelet link lost at La Jolla Cove found

Martin was snorkeling in the water right off La Jolla Cove and when came ashore, he pulled off his wet suit. In doing so, his bracelet broke and pieces sprung off into the sand and shallow water. He managed to find most of it, but, the end couple of links were still missing and he couldn’t find them. In talking with a few people on the beach, he met Bill, who is a regular there. Bill told Martin to contact the local metal detecting club, The San Diego Coinshooters, for help. He emailed Mike,  who’s in charge of our club website. Mike then contacted me to see if I’d be interested in helping him. I contacted Martin right away to get the story and location. Since Martin lived out of town and had already returned home, we had to do this all by photos and descriptions. The site isn’t an easy area to search. Lots of rocks and mushy sand on a tidally active steep beach. Since it had already been a week since the loss, I told Martin that it was going to be a long shot, but, I was game if he was. With the go ahead, I hit the beach at 3:30 am to take full advantage of the low tide at 5:30am. He’d made a map for me to go by, and it proved accurate. I started at one end of his circled search area and about 3/4 of the way though it, I got a weak, bouncy signal mostly down in the mid teens on my Equinox showing a target at 8-10 inches deep. Everything heavy sinks deep very quickly at this beach, so, not unusual, and probably just another pull tab or bottle cap. This time, we were in luck. I found his bracelet links in the bottom of my scoop. Initially, Martin thought it was just a gold link that was missing, but, it turns out that both a gold and silver link had been lost, hence the strange signal. This is a very sentimental bracelet for Martin, so, he plans to have a jeweler fix it. A happy Martin made the 2 1/2 hour trip here to San Diego to pick it up. A pleasure to me you Martin and thank you for the reward and gifts.

Ring Found at Dyckman Beach, South Haven, MI

No skill here, just plain luck!!  Received an email from Rachel late on Friday night saying her husband, Mike, lost his wedding ring in Lake Michigan.  They were smart to contact me so quickly.  The Big Lake was really churning yesterday and today was expected to be the same, so Gregg Larabel and I arrived this morning to meet Mike at the beach.  He showed us the area where he lost his ring–somewhere between the white and red buoys(see picture).   I have to admit our hearts sank after looking at the wave conditions and the area to cover.  Just standing in the waves was going to be a challenge.  We are well aware of the dangers in Lake Michigan.  Anything over waist deep in these conditions is a no-no for us because of the dangerous rip currents.  But we’re here; we’ll give it a try up to our limit.  Mike did say that midway between the buoys was probably the most likely spot to search.  In the picture you can see that’s where I headed–and that is about where I found his ring.  I received only one good target and assumed it would be a pull tab, but then, a pull tab way out here is unlikely.  After several waves pushed me off target I finally had the target in my scoop and to my surprise it was his ring.  We were out there less than ten minutes.  I still cannot believe it!  Mike is a music director for his church and his prayers were answered today.

Samantha emailed me, asking if I could help find her father’s ring he lost 2 summers ago. They are getting ready to move soon. I asked her where they were located, and she said Connecticut. Hmmm, that’s kind of far, but after hearing the story, I told myself this one is for me.

Her dad retired from the NY City Fire Department in 1969 after 9 years on the job. He was seriously injured in the line of duty during a building collapse. He was on Truck 40. The ring he lost is the ring that the FDNY gave him upon retiring. It was his prized possession.
I made the 2.5-hour trek on Saturday morning. Samantha showed me a small search area. Ken was trying to clear a blocked small stream to allow the water to drain from their pond. They were on the bank when they heard the ring hit a rock and then heard a splash. They looked and raked the stream with no luck. They have looked on many different occasions.
I start detecting, and there is a lot of metal in the area. There is a fence-like structure on the banks under the dirt. There is also a lot of nails in the water. I searched about 30 minutes in the rain when I got a good tone high on the bank. I dig a hole, and Samantha sees gold. Samantha pulled a big gold ring out of the hole. We can’t believe we found it. I said we should surprise him.
I packed up my gear, and when Ken got down here, I started asking more questions. I pointed to the area where he told me the splash was. The ring was on my finger. When he saw it, I handed it to him and showed him where we found it. He didn’t show much emotion. He kept talking about a gold ring with the FDNY logo on it and a diamond in the center. This one was not that ring.
I asked if this was his ring and he said yes, he didn’t know that he lost this one. So I guess I’m going to continue the search. I got suited up again in hip waders and a raincoat. I looked for 2 more hours and couldn’t find the other ring. I can say with confidence that the other ring is not in this area.
I am disappointed that I couldn’t find the ring I came up to find. I wanted to help put a smile on the face of another first responder. But I was able to return another ring.

Lady’s White Gold Engagement Ring Lost in the Ocean – Found and Returned Myrtle Beach SC

I was in the middle of getting the yard work finished when I received a call from Symone saying she had lost her ring in the ocean at Myrtle Beach. I wanted to confirm she was in Myrtle Beach and not North Myrtle Beach. She confirmed Myrtle Beach but then wasn’t sure exactly where in Myrtle Beach they were. Her and her fiancé, Eze had come from Atlanta, GA to Myrtle Beach to pick up a new puppy. After picking up the puppy they decided to hit the beach for a little R&R. So, they really didn’t know what street they were off of. Eze found the name of the hotel they were in front of, and I knew they were in Matt Fry’s area. I told her I’d call Matt and one of us would call her back within 5 minutes. I tried calling Matt and couldn’t get a hold of him, so I called Symone back and told her I’d be there in 35-40 minutes.

When I got to the beach I called Symone and told her I was walking out on the beach. She met me and pointed out the area where they had been sitting. She told me she had walked straight out from there to about waist deep water. She lost her ring a little over an hour after high tide and with the outgoing tide I thought there’d be a good chance of finding it. The problem was, it was mid afternoon with an east wind that was blowing some big waves towards the beach. I grabbed my White’s PI and started trying to do a perpendicular grid search from shore to water. My first signal was solid, but the waves kept pushing me off the target. I paced off steps to the beach and waited for the tide to go down a little bit more. When I told her what was going on, she told me that she was going back to the car and relieve Eze from the puppy watch. Eze came down to the tide line as I was coming back from retrieving the bottle cap that gave me the original signal. I talked to Eze and got his side of the story. He said that when Symone lost her ring, and was frantically waving her arms, she was more to the right of where she had me. I switched detectors to my Equinox 800 and kept the grid search, but started working to the right of the center line. On my third line I got a banging signal with a VDI of 11-12. With the waves still pushing me around, I finally got the target in the scoop. As I shook the sand out of the scoop and looked in, I saw her beautiful ring underneath a few shells. As I’m walking out of the water, I called Eze over and asked what her ring looked like. As he’s explaining her ring, I held it up and he got real excited and said it looks just like that. I told him, let’s surprise Symone. I gave him my IPhone, set for video and we made our way back to the parking lot. The video says it all.

*** Alex had been surfing at Huntington City Beach when he felt his very special hierloom ring slip off his finger into the ocean. It was passed down to Alex from his dad. It meant the world to Alex.

Surfers rings are usually lost too far out to get them a low tides. Especially at Huntington Beach, CA. I looked at the next best low tides to have the optimum chance to find the ring. I would need Alex to be there to guide me in the general location.

We met the next morning at 5am when the parking lots opened. Alex was there with his mother. As we walked onto the beach it was still dark. I tried to be honest with Alex about our chances of finding the ring at this particular beach, considering he was surfing when the loss occurred. We had three things going for us. One, he felt the ring come off.
Two, he was on the inside set of braking waves. Three, he was there to point me in the right direction.

I turned on my metal detector walking straight out till I got to knee deep water. Then I turned to my right to begin scanning parallel to the waves. Three steps to the north “BOOM” first target in the scoop was Alex’s ring. His mother was near me so I passed her the ring to make sure it was the correct ring. It was still dark so she took it over to Alex who had a flashlight. They both came over to me in shock not believing what had just  happened. 

I find rings lost in the ocean a couple days after they have been lost, but not in the first 2 or 3 minutes os a search. Another awesome recovery for the Metal Detector Man. 

These quick finds are always special especially when they are long shots. Just to be realistic, I need to tell you that I have been on more than three unsuccessful searches in the last month that were more than four hours each. WIN SOME! LOSE SOME !

Lost 1960 class ring found Fort Worth, TX

Robert emailed me asking about my services on September 2, 2020. He said his daughter had tied his mothers 1960 class ring to her shoe laces so she wouldn’t loose it while playing lacrosse in the front yard. Well she lost that ring on August 29, 2020. Robert tried looking for it with a metal detector but had no luck. He thought for sure it would be in the front yard and possibly  in the backyard. We arranged a search date and I came out on September 4th. I started my search in the front yard and after about 8 minutes I found it. Robert was very happy, that ring was his mother’s class ring and she had passed it down to his daughter. I’m glad I was able to make your Labor day weekend a happy one. Thank you Robert for the reward!!

I received a call from Carolyn requesting my service to locate her earing lost in her back yard! Carolyn was kneeling on the lawn when her dog jumped up and tried to chew her ear.  He tugged on the earring and took off with it.

I met Carolyn this morning and she showed me the area.   Thankfully Carolyn had left every thing the way it was when it happened which made my search easer.  After tweaking my V3i to her other earring I began my search.  After about an hour of searching I found her earring.  I called Carolyn over to  show her how well covered with grass her earing was.   She was very happy to have her earring back!

Lost 14kt gold Wedding Ring, Sturgeon County, Alberta Canada

Kevin called me yesterday afternoon requesting my assistance to locate his wedding ring which he had lost two weeks ago while gardening in his back yard.  After asking Kevin a few questions I agreed to meet with him in an hour.  His yard is huge! After a three hour search I called it quits for the evening but I assured Kevin if the ring was in the area I would find it for him! I told him that I would return the next day to continue the search and in the mean time to relax. I knew that was a hard thing for him to do as so far 2020 had been a disappointing year for him.

When I met up with Kevin the following afternoon I told him I was armed and had my « top guns » with me! I assured him that I was going to find his ring.  I retraced my steps once again where I thought the most likely place the ring could be but unfortunately I had no luck.  I kept looking in his compost pile as something told me it might be there but had no luck.  I kept asking Kevin questions trying to jog his memory.

My questions did trigger Kevin’s memory!  He had brought his wheel barrow and dumped his rose bush and other garden material in a pile at another location.   I searched the area and Bingo,  I heard  a very sweet tone and knew that was his ring!  I told Kevin that it was his lucky day.   At the bottom of the pile was his lost ring!  Kevin could not believe his eyes when I showed him his ring and was so happy to have his ring back.  It pays to keep  asking questions all the time even if  you have asked before. You keep asking as sometimes it jogs a distant memory,  just keep asking!
