Ring lost in a Poway pond found.

Pam and her husband were enjoying a dip in their hot tub spa when Pam realized she was still wearing her prized custom silver ring. Not wanting to let it tarnish in the chlorinated water, she removed it and set it on a towel next to the spa. When her husband got out, he grabbed the towel and the ring went flying somewhere nearby. Possible landing areas were in some of the landscaping on the deck around the spa, or, more likely into the pond just a couple of feet away. The pond is an old swimming pool that had been converted into a fish pond. Lots of plants, fish, reeds, with a mossy/mucky bottom. The closest side is the shallow end, thank goodness, so, no diver needed. They had purchased a metal detector, but, even though they got a few signals, they couldn’t zero in on any particular target. When I got there, we discussed the situation, and I started with a standard 11″ coil and swung down into the most likely area. A little bit of interference with the rebar in the underlying pool bottom, but, with a bit of tweaking, it was huntable. After just a minute or two, I got a decent high tone that was in the silver range. Pam’s husband volunteered to jump in and try to snag the target. Yay! He fished around a bit, but, came up empty. Ok, time for the small coil to help get closer to the target. Still no good, so, I reached over the side with my pin pointer, stretched down as far as I could in the signal area and got right on the target.  Her husband had success this time coming up with the ring along with some muck before he jumped into the hot tub to warm up. After a bit of clean-up, it looked good as before the day’s dip in the pond. Pam was very happy to get her treasured ring back. A pleasure to meet you both and thank you for the reward.

Ring lost at Coronado found

Sergio was at the beach in Coronado and when doing a simple stretch with his arms, his wedding ring flew off into the soft sand. Raking with his fingers came up dry, so, onto the web he went for help. He contacted both Stan and Curtis here in SoCal who gave him my number. Thanks guys! Sergio wasn’t able to meet me right away to show me the search area, but, he did the next best thing, which was GPS coordinates and photos he’d taken at the loss site. Armed with this info, I went to the beach and figured out the likely location by the landmarks in the photos. I started a spiral search from where I stood, and after about a 1/2 hour I had covered about a 50 foot circle…..but no ring. Hmmm, that was strange as I had reviewed the photos several times and was sure I was in the correct area. Time to start over, so, I walked back to my initial starting point and got a good signal right there! I looked down and realized that the signal was right under my first left foot print in the sand! That was a first for me to have been actually standing on the target I was looking for! I guess I need to learn to get out of my own way! Ring lost in SUV found

Rose was sitting in the back seat with her young child sitting in the middle seat, when the child started to get a bit fussy. To help with a little distraction, Rose gave the child one of her rings to hold. Well, that didn’t last long as the ring was dropped and disappeared. Not seeing the exact moment of the drop, a search ensued but, it couldn’t be found. With the prospect of an expensive trip to a repair shop to have the seats removed, Rose tried to tell herself that it didn’t really matter that much. After a couple of months, that ring still was on her mind, so, she searched for an alternative way to maybe recover it. An online search brought her to TRF and my contact info. We discussed the situation over the phone and decided to give my services a try. When I arrived, I got the full story and was shown the vehicle in question. The middle seats didn’t move forward or backward….just the seat back would fold down. With my inspection camera, I could see underneath the seat that there were all sorts of cracks and crevices the ring could have ended up in. After looking around underneath for a while, I tried a different tact. Looking down from the top, I tried to figure out where the ring could possibly have gone down. There weren’t many spaces wide enough for the ring to pass through. One spot by the seat belt where the middle seat met the side seat looked promising, so, down the inspection camera probe went. At the bottom, I got what looked to possibly be the edge of a ring, so, I asked Rose for a more detailed description, and she showed me a photo of the ring she had on her phone. We both looked at the screen on my inspection camera, and while I wiggled the probe around a bit, we got a better look at the object. YES! That’s it! Now the fun part….trying to get it out without having to remove the seat. I had brought with me many tools, and chose to use some « magic fingers » which is a 4 tine fingered grabber mechanics use to retrieve things from tight areas. After a couple of failed tries, I managed to get a good grab on it. Now the tricky part trying to work it up and out without it coming loose from my tool. After a few twists and turns, it was free and back on Rose’s finger. A pleasure to meet you and thank you for the reward.

Pendant lost at Ocean Beach found

Dylan was playing volleyball at Ocean Beach and lost an important family heirloom pendant in the process. He jumped up against the net and the pendant or necklace snagged on the netting and the necklace broke, sending the pendant somewhere in the soft sand. The game stopped, everyone try to find it, but, all efforts were futile. Dylan called me for help and we arranged to meet later that afternoon. When the time came, I grabbed my gear, stopped to pick up my detecting buddy Dave and headed to the site. The beach and volleyball courts were mobbed, but, we managed to find a parking spot and eventually, Dylan. He had sent me a photo of what it looked like, described it’s size/composition, and explained it’s importance to him. After just a few minutes, my buddy Dave came up with it. A very happy Dylan could now enjoy the rest of his day knowing that the pendant was not lost forever, and was back where it belonged. A pleasure to meet you and thanks for the reward.

Engagement ring lost at Coronado found

Jessica and her family are visiting here in San Diego and spent the day at the beach in Coronado. She removed her three rings and put them in a fanny pack to keep them safe.  On their way back to their hotel, she went to put her rings back on and only found two of them. She had been in the fanny pack a few times to remove her phone, so, that’s probably when the ring accidentally got pulled out. Panic set in and she returned to the beach to hopefully find the missing engagement ring. As we all know, soft sand will swallow a ring in an instant, and running fingers like a rake to find a small item like that rarely works. Jessica searched online for help and made contact with fellow RingFinder Curtis Cox, who is about an hour north of us. He recommended she call me….Thanks Curtis! I headed over right away and found traffic was horrible! A Sunday afternoon during the summer is always a pain with traffic and parking in Coronado, but, this was really bad due to an accident on the bridge over to the island. An hour later, and parking a mile away, I finally made it to the search area to meet Jessica. She knew where they were camped earlier that day and I started my grid search. First pass I found a quarter. Second pass, nothing. At the end of the third pass I got a nice reading of 20 on my Equinox 900. I told Jessica that this was a promising signal, but, lots of trash signals can read the same. A shallow poke in the sand with my pin pointer revealed what we hoped it would be…..a beautiful engagement ring.  A grateful and very happy Jessica can now enjoy the rest of her stay here before heading home in the morning. Phone lost at Coronado beach found

Andrea was spending the day at the beach with her family. Her kids and other kids near by were having fun playing and digging in the sand. Time to go and ooops, her phone is missing. In searching best as she could, still no phone would go home. I was contacted later and received the details I needed to conduct the search. There was still a « find my phone » signal coming from the loss area, so, it’s likely still there. Andrea was not able to meet me there at that time, but, I wanted to jump on it right away as that beach gets detected often. With the directions I needed, I set up a grid area as best I could considering that there were lots of people in that area that might be in the way. I started in the open spots before having to ask people to move. Luckily, I got a great booming signal on my Equinox 900 after only a couple of passes. It read pretty deep though and I thought it was just going to be a quarter or an aluminum can. Well, over a foot down, I found her phone, still on and still working! It must have fallen into one of the many holes dug by the children. A text later found a happy Andrea going to get her phone back. A pleasure to meet you and thank you for the reward.

Ring lost at Coronado found

Aaron called me saying that his fiancee Katie lost her engagement ring in the dry sand. She had removed it to apply some lotion, set it in her hat, and in the process of them setting up the umbrella and blanket, the ring ended up missing. Later, they had also moved to another location in the wet sand 80 feet away, so, it could be there also. I started in the dry sand which was the most likely. Aaron pointed out the original spot where they had the umbrella planted, so, I started just to the side of that. First pass, nothing, but, two thirds of the way back on the second pass, I got the sweet sound that rang up a solid 25 on my Equinox 900. Poked the pin pointer into the sand and pulled out a beautiful gold ring. A tearful Katie was so happy to have her precious love token back again. Ring lost at a San Diego park found.

Yanni was at a local park enjoying the day and the various amenities, including playground, grass, and pushing her child on the swings. Somehow, afterward, she discovered her wedding ring was missing from her finger. Since her husband also had once lost his ring and had it found by us, she knew who to call. I arrived a bit early and decided to hit the swings first since nobody was on them. I got about half way done when it seemed EVERYONE wanted to swing. I abandoned the search there and went over to the tot lot to check the playground area. Mostly rubber, but, there was some sand areas I was able to quickly eliminate. I then walked over some grass areas on the way back to the now vacant swings. I got just about done with the swings when I got THE signal. Sure enough, just a few inches down in the wood chips, I found a gold ring. You can see in the one photo how easy a gold ring can hide in wood chips. Yes, it’s there in the center on top! Not knowing what her ring looked like, since she hadn’t arrived yet to describe it or even show me the exact search area, I stored it and continued to detect until she arrived. A few minutes later, Yanni arrived. I asked her to describe the ring, but, instead, she showed me a photo. Bingo! I pulled out the ring and said « yup, that sure looks like the one » as I held it up to the picture. A relieved Yanni can now go about her day with a complete finger. Pendant lost at La Jolla Shores found

Adam was playing ball at La Jolla Shores beach when he discovered that his necklace had broken and a treasured pendant was missing. He and his friends searched for it without success. A referral got him to TheRingFinders.com website and my contact info. When I received the call, I was out detecting with a buddy. We were about done anyway, so, we jumped into his car and headed to his house so I could jump into my truck and head out to the beach. When I got there I lucked into a parking spot and contacted Adam. Once on the site, I got the story and found the search area was relatively small. Less than 5 minutes later without a signal so far, I got a steady tone on my Equinox 900 and judging by it and the number readout that this was the probable target. Pin pointer poked into the sand located the object and sure enough, a beautiful pendant came to light. A happy Adam can now relax and enjoy the rest of the day and evening. Ring lost at Pacific Beach found

Kentrel was playing a game of Frisbee football in the dry sand at the beach. Afterward, he discovered his ring was missing from his finger. He looked all about without success, headed home to hopefully discover that maybe he hadn’t brought it to the beach that day. Nope, it was still missing. A friend recommended he try and find a metal detector and he ended up at TheRingFinders.com website and my contact info. We arranged to meet in about 45 minutes, so, I grabbed my gear and headed out. We met, Kentrel explained the situation, and he showed me the probable search area, which was fairly good sized. Might take 1-2 hours to cover it completely. That beach gets detected a lot, so, there were hardly any targets which helped me move along faster than usual. After about 45 minutes, and only a few junk targets, I got a nice « round sound », looked down, and could just see the edge of a gold ring. Yes! I called Kentrel over to take a look and he confirmed that it was the one. A happy Kentrell could now relax and enjoy the rest of the day. A pleasure to meet you and thank you for the reward.
