Lost 18K Gold Wedding Ring Recovered In Raleigh, N.C. at NCSU on 7/12/2014

Hello, here’s another ring recovery I made today.. Last night I received a call from a nice gentlemen named Brent who had lost his ring yesturday.. I received his call but had to call him back since I missed the call the first time.. When we spoke on the phone I asked Brent to give me some details about his ring and how he lost it.. He explained the he works at The University of North Carolina State In Raleigh, NC and had lost his ring out the third story window of his office.. Brent told me he was in his office at his desk when a Bee flew in his open window.. As he attempted to swat at the Bee with his hand, the ring slipped off his finger and flew out the window.. He then attempted to find his ring and even went and rented a metal detector but could not find it.. I met with him first thing today at his office and he walked me through how he lost it.. Anyway long story short, I started my search and since he still had his rented detector we decided to hunt together.. I showed him how to use the detector some he had rented and after alittle over a hour of searching and we covered just about everywhere the ring could have gone.. We still had not found it.. There was only three possible places left to check.. place one was the possibility that someone saw the ring and picked it up But Brent was certian that was not the case.. which leaves only two more, Either it got stuck in in the tree on a branch on the way down or it was in the thick bushes.. well we searched alittle more and as we was checking the bushes, my detector went of under the bush . when i crawled under the bush to check the signal out I yelled I see it.. The ring was finally found.. Brent was very happy to get his ring back as you can see from the look on his face.. It was my pleasure to assist him in locating the ring..goodys 028 goodys 027

I received the call while I was at work. The owner had just lost her wedding ring on the beach and was understandably very anxious to get it back. I tried to calm her nerves and explain what would take place before and during a search. We realized the search would have to wait until the following morning. The next day also happened to be her 10th wedding anniversary and I wanted very badly to make it one they would always remember. Since she would be unable to meet me at the site I instructed her to dig a large hole near the location (but not too close!) and to text me some reference photos of the spot to give me some background landmarks to help me discern the likely area of the ring for the search the next day. The owner did this to perfection (she had a crew of eager kids helping and they did a great job!) and provided me with some invaluable information to help make a successful recovery. After doing quite a few of these searches I was feeling pretty good about the odds of a recovery. The information I had received was very good quality and I had every reason to believe the ring was laying hidden near where the owner thought it was. With all of this I told the owner that, in my opinion, we had a very good chance of success but I couldn’t make any guarantees because the unforeseen « wild card » could always come into play and change everything.

I arrived at the beach at first light eager and confident but when I pulled up my worst fears were realized when I saw the infamous « wild card » directly in front of me. There, very near to the spot was a large tractor scooping and pushing sand across the beach! I ran out and flagged the operator down. After explaining the situation he obliged and headed towards the ocean and away from the search area. I shudder to think of what the outcome would have been had I arrived even a little later. Once the adrenaline had subsided I got out my phone and zeroed in on the likely spot using the photos I had to triangulate the ring’s hiding spot as best I could. The ring was platinum with diamonds encircling it which would mean it would probably be a very low and broken signal, I was going to have to check every single signal I got, no matter how small. With my discrimination setting at zero I proceeded to hunt very slowly and meticulously. Bits of foil and random pieces of metal garbage were everywhere but I had to check and retrieve them all. The ring, with it’s material and construction could « look » like any of these to my machine. 30-40 minutes in I was beginning to wonder if the ring, with it’s faint signal, may have been pushed too deep for the the coil I was using to « see ». I decided to search for awhile longer before putting on a deeper-searching coil which I had brought along for just this possibility. A couple minutes later I received a decent signal but not exactly what I was expecting from the ring. I wanted so badly to be able to give the owner good news that I asked the detecting gods to smile upon me as I brushed at the sand. There, down about 3″ was the beautiful ring sitting edge up ! The detecting gods were indeed smiling brightly upon all of us today. A happy anniversary for the couple and an awesome day for me 🙂

Diamond Bracelet finally located in Haymarket, Virginia

  • from Manistee (Michigan, United States)

I got a call today from Melissa B. saying that she lost her diamond bracelet given to her from her grandmother. She was visiting her mother and grandmother in Comstock Park, Michigan and Sunday, while packing up to go home to Miami, Florida, she lost the bracelet. Melissa looked up my name through the ring finders directory and gave me a call today. I told her I would try to get to her grandmothers house Wednesday and would get back to her. This afternoon I was able to go out to the house with my detecting friends Chuck R. and Dave B.. Arriving at the house I met her mom and grandmother and walked through the steps that led Melissa to loose the bracelet. « Melissa picked up her large carryall in the basement and with her bracelet in her right hand, walked up the stairs to the outside door and across the sidewalk to the SUV sitting in the driveway. Melissa opened the front passenger door and got in the car and noticed her bracelet was gone ». This is what we had to go on and the first thing I asked was « did you check the vehicle over, from the door jam to under the seats, did you empty your carryall, did you check your clothes? » Melissa said, « yes ».

We proceeded to check the bushes, flowers, grass along the sidewalk and drive. I went down stairs and on my hands and knees look under the heater vents, along the carpet to the carpeted steps and up and out the door. After doing this several times I called Melissa and told her it was not here. Just then while talking to her I looked down at the decorative block steps on the outside stoop and in a crack I notice several crystals that looked like what we were looking for. I called out to Melissa on the phone and said « I think I see it », her and I were very elated at that point until we pried the block loose and it was broken pieces of glass from the storm door. I apologized to her for getting her hopes up and told her we would continue our hunt.

After an hour or so of not finding it, I called her back and recommended that she call her sister who is now in Haymarket, Virginia and who drove her to the airport and have her search the car again and ask the housekeeper if she could keep her eye out for the bracelet. About 8PM tonight I got a call from Melissa who was home in Miami, she talked to her brother-in-law and he searched the SUV again and found the bracelet down between the front passenger seat and the console. This was a very happy ending to a frustrating few days for Melissa.

As a ring finder we don’t always find what we are looking for but with a little detective work and a lot of questions, we can help the one who lost the item eventually find it. I have posted a picture of Melissa wearing the bracelet and a picture of the bracelet held by her brother-in-law after finding it.

Newlywed Finds Lost Ring in Castle Rock Lake

  • from Madison (Wisconsin, United States)

DSC01640_small

I am a Newlywed of last August, so my husband and I have been married roughly 11 months. We have been together for over seven years and are best friends. We relocated to the New Lisbon, WI area three years ago and are lucky to live on beautiful Castle Rock Lake. Over The Fourth of July weekend, we had our family visiting from out of town and went over to a little island in the middle of the lake; better known as « Alcatraz ». We were having a blast and hanging out in the water near the north side of the island. We were playing catch and I threw the ball to my sister. Little did I know that I had just flung my diamond ring into the water filled with tons of people and boats! A friend had said,  » I think you just lost your ring » and we all wondered who he was speaking to; until I realized it was me. I went from laughing to frantic as we all searched around the area. Fortunately, he had seen me do it and we knew the area to look around, but to my despair we came up with nothing after an hour. I felt so horrible that I had lost my ring that my husband worked hard for and that we didn’t have insurance. We talked about insuring it for a while and never seemed to get around to it. We ended up packing it up and heading to dinner. I felt like a part of me was missing! It wasn’t the materialism of the ring, but the symbol and thought behind the ring. My husband, Rich, also lost his ring at work a couple weeks before. I just keep thinking, now neither one of us has the ring we were actually married with.  The next day I decided I was going to rent a metal detector and go back out there to see if I could retrieve it. As I searched the sites, I saw that it was roughly $40 a day to rent or around $600 for a decent one, but then it hit me…I had no idea what to do even if I did get one.

I then thought…well Google, you basically have everything I ever would need to know; so maybe you  can tell me if I can hire someone. Bingo. After I plugged in the question a website popped up called; www.TheRingFinders.com. It gave me different people I could contact to help me find my ring and narrow it down by region of the world! Since I am basically an hour from any large city; I figured I would need to look for someone far from me. But, when I looked up areas in Wisconsin; there was a man in the Dells. I clicked on the link and came to Dan Roekle. He had other great success stories and also seemed like a very genuine guy. He also had found a ring in Baraboo with pretty much the same scenario. I was looking for pricing for him to come out; but he only wanted $25 for his expenses and reward if I could spare anything. I was ecstatic. I contacted Dan and within hours had responded and was asking lots of beneficial and professional questions. We went back and forth pretty much all day when he then said I can come out tomorrow if you are available. I couldn’t believe this kind man was giving me his Sunday, willing to drive from the Madison area and seemed so confident we could find it. He basically stated, we do it for the adventure and love helping others out!

The next morning Dan drove up to our lake house with his son Carter, 11, who is his right hand man during these « treasure hunts ». Not only were they very nice, I felt like I had known them for years. We all got on the boat and headed out to the island. My brother in-law met us out there and had the coordinates from his boat GPS that was so helpful to narrow down the area of where we were. It still was an area roughly 100 ft by 70 ft of water that was 3ft to 4 ft in depth. Carter would shift through the sand when Dan would let him now that the metal detector had detected something. They also switched and took turns listening and retrieving during the search which was awesome to see their teamwork. While they searched; Dan taught me about metal detecting as well. Things I would have never known! 1. You need a permit from the DNR in Wisconsin to search any bodies of water and need to let them know specifically what you are looking for. 2. The metal detector has different sensitivity levels that can search for things that are a few inches deep to 6 ft. depending on the setting. 3. Also that as soon as my ring had fallen off, it probably sunk 2 inches right away.

I am glad I didn’t spend money on a metal detector!  It wasn’t the sunniest day and the lake was kind of choppy. I felt so bad and asked if there was something I could do besides narrowing down the search area. Dan just replied no and kept looking. A little more time had passed and I was starting to think I wouldn’t see it again. Then Dan came walking back to me on the boat. I just thought to myself that he was coming to say he was cold and it was a lost cause. He said, « are you sure this is the area »? I said, yes and then he asked what it looked like again. As I started describing the ring…he said you mean like this? I saw my ring was on the tip of his pinky (I have tiny hands) and hugged him and smiled the largest I had in a long while! My husband, family and I were in complete awe! I had not only my ring back, but my faith in people and lost causes. I knew right then and there, this would be a story I tell for the rest of my life.

Dan and Carter were a God send to me. I still shake my head in disbelief at the miracle that they performed that day. They found a ring the size of a nickel in 14,000 acres of water, buried along with 20+ rusty bottle caps and pop tops!  I am so glad that I found him on www.TheRingFinders.com website and that people like him, even exist! So, if you have ever lost something that has been as important to you, put your faith in Dan to find it and you will be amazed as well.

I received a call about a white gold wedding ring that was lost while playing baseball with his kids. A search needed to be done as soon as possible since the baseball fields are going to be used the next day. About 20 hours later we met at the baseball field. I search the whole left outfield as one of the possible lost locations. But no luck. Then I started to search back to the bleaches from the left outfield and there it was in the grass. He was very happy to have his ring back.

Ring in La Jolla Found!

  • from La Jolla (California, United States)

Raoul called me and said he had dropped two rings in some tall grass in front of where he worked and could only find one of them. He had remembered seeing my Craig’s list ad and hoped I could help him. He also has and interest in the hobby and wanted some advice in choosing a detector. When I arrived, he showed me the small area in which the ring was located and I began to search. It was a relatively new industrial park and it was amazing how many signals there were in that small area. Most were junk signals but several were in the small gold ring range so there were a few to check out. After a pull tab and some scrap, I got a nice low tone on my E-trac and my pin pointer sniffed it out. You can see by the photo how well it blended into the grass. I’m surprised he eye-balled the matching band! It was a pleasure meeting you both and thank you for the reward.

Lost Diamond Ring in Heathrow, Florida…..Found!!

  • from Sanford (Florida, United States)

While visiting some friends on the 4th of July 2013, Jim and Molly were enjoying a lively game of volleyball in the pool when Molly realized her diamond engagement ring was not on her finger.  For the next hour they searched frantically for the ring without success.  As the light faded into night so did their hopes of finding her precious ring.  That evening Jim was looking on his computer for information on finding lost rings and came across theringfinders web site.  The next day Jim called me and we set up a time to meet and do a thorough search of the pool and surrounding area.  I set up my Whites DFX metal detector and started searching the small grassy areas and around the many bushes and shrubs.   After an hour or so I was beginning to think that it possibly flew over the fence and landed in the neighbors yard.   I was finishing up along the wooden fence behind some rose bushes when I caught a glimpse of gold and sure enough there it was.  Peeking up through the leaves at the base of the fence–a good 30 feet from where Molly was in the pool–was her beautiful ring, just waiting to be found!  What a thrill and pleasure it was to serve you and help make your best 5th of July ever!!

Maybe you have lost something recently!  Give me a call!

Lost Engagement Ring Lake Mango, Brandon, Florida

Chelsea was with family and friends for an annual reunion in a small park on Lake Mango in Brandon, Florida. She had just recently become engaged and was ever so conscious of the beautiful engagement ring on her finger. To protect it she put it in the small hand purse she had with her and then went about her day enjoying all the folks who had gathered for the reunion. Disaster struck just as she was getting ready to leave the party. She looked in her purse for her ring and could not find it. She and friends looked everywhere she had been but could not find it. She left the park brokenhearted and spent a sleepless night trying to think of where it might have dropped out of her purse. The next morning Chelsea bought a metal detector and returned to the park with her fiancée Jarrod, and her “soon to be mother-in-law”, Susan and continued searching. As they searched, Susan looked on the internet and found The Ringfinders and contacted Mike Miller. Mike met them at the park and began the search. Chelsea was certain of the area where it could have most possibly could have fallen out of the purse and Mike searched that area for about 2 hours. It was hot so we took a break under a shade tree and when the break was over Chelsea decided to up out of the area and just have another look around. You guessed it!!!! As she reached the top of the bank she spotted something sparkling in the sun. It was the ring and she had found it all on her own. All of us were overjoyed and as you can see Susan and Chelsea had big smiles once again. Best wishes to Chelsea and Jerrod on their future life’s journey together.
