Boyd gave me a call and asked what the chances were of finding a lost i-phone in a lake. After hearing his story and getting a bit more information on the how, when and where…I decided to gather up all my gear and give it the ol « college try »!

Boyd’s wife, Elizabeth wrote this… »It is so nice to be able to text you from my miraculously working phone! Here is my review of your services. Mike is a Methodical Miracle Worker! I dropped my phone in a lake in a paddle boarding mishap. While I knew the approximate area where my phone was, the aquatic vegetation and algae were extremely thick, rendering visibility very difficult. After five days of searching to no avail, I knew that we needed to call in a professional–and that is exactly what Mike is! Upon his arrival, I was immediately impressed with his careful, intentional approach; he uses high-quality, specialized equipment and takes care to search the area deliberately. Despite this being an objectively difficult task–my phone was a « needle in a haystack, » buried in a fairly large area with very thick vegetation and varying depths of water–Mike kept a positive, professional attitude in every moment. During my search I used a 5 foot by 20 foot pvc submersible grid that allowed me to thoroughly cover the thick vegetation while pushing and forcing my 5 and one half inch Pulse Dive hand held metal detector/pinpointer through the weeded lake bottom. I also used my 50 foot hose and regulator by Gator Gill and floated my scuba tank on my small kayak. It took a good two hours of searching but thank God we were successful in the end! And thank you Elizabeth for giving me the opportunity to serve you and for the great review!

Lost Engagement Ring Found in Sand Banks Ontario

This morning I met with a young couple from Quebec, vacationing at Sand Banks, Prince Edward County, for the week. Unfortunately, she lost her engagement ring at the beach yesterday while placing it in her nap sack before going for a swim. Let me suggest to you that if your ring has any monetary/sentimental value, have your initials and phone number engraved inside the band and perhaps have it ensured. Bad situation that ends well. Her reaction video, below, is really worth watching. Another happy customer. Life is good. 😊

Lost Wedding Ring in Lake Geneva, WI… Found!

The smiles show the ring is returned!

I received a call from fellow Ring Finder, Paul Humphrey, around 8:00 pm, just days after signing up to be a Ring Finder member.  Paul was gracious enough to hand tonight’s recovery off to me, as I live only five minutes from the site.  As sundown was drawing near, I gathered up my gear and headed off to Lake Geneva’s Riveria Beach for my first recovery.

I knew this beach well as I detect on it almost daily in the summer.  It’s a hot spot for Chicagoans to escape to, and it gets lots of foot traffic.  Nimer, his wife Elise, and two children were enjoying a beautiful day at the beach when Nimer waved to Elise from the lake.  The day soured as Nimer felt his gold wedding band of 16 years leave his finger and plunk into the water.  Although only waist deep when lost, hours of searching brought no success.  The family returned to Chicago.

Speaking to Nimer on the phone, I asked a series of questions to roughly pinpoint his location, which hand he wore the ring on, how he waved to Elise, the time, and description of the ring.  I knew I needed to visualize the scene that occurred nine hours earlier.

I stepped into the water around 8:30 pm.  Dusk was on time and I knew my work would be cut out for me in 30 minutes or less.  There were still many people on the beach, but the area I needed to work in was thankfully vacant.  I said a prayer and began the search.  After finding a nail and pull tab, I was elated to see a large gold wedding band staring up at me through the shimmering water.  I stared at it a moment wondering if my mind was simply creating the image of what I wanted to see.  No, I had found Nimer’s ring.. on my third target and after only 30 minutes of searching.  It was a large, beautiful ring and felt loose even when on my thumb.  I checked the inscription and it matched Nimer’s description.  Success!

Lost Wedding Ring Found in Leesburg Virginia Basement

I received a call from a young man named Zemraan in Leesburg Virginia whose mother had lost her wedding ring inside the house. She was very frantic to locate her precious wedding ring and asked her son to try to find someone who could help locate the ring. I don’t typically get many calls for inside searches but since it was close I figured I give them a visit. After arriving at the home her son Zemraan told me that he had picked up the rings to bring to his mother upstairs and shortly afterwards she realized one was missing. He took me downstairs to the basement where two bedrooms were setup. I initially scanned the Mom’s room and searched every inch of the bedroom and with no luck, then I moved to the next bedroom which was at the bottom of the stairway. After about 40 minutes of searching every crevice, floor molding crack, in/around, and under ever object the ring was found. Very Happy Customer!!

Ring lost at Mission Beach found

Pete and his wife were escaping the heat inland and decided to go to south Mission Beach. Pete took his wedding ring off before going out in the surf, and gave it to his wife to hold. It was a bit big for her fingers, but, that’s where she held it. By the time Pete came back, his wife wasn’t feeling too good, and in their haste to pack up and leave, the ring came off and into the dry sand. After Pete did a Google search to get help, he came across one of my posts and texted me.  Being a Saturday afternoon, parking was going to be impossible, so, I had an early dinner and hoped the crowds would lighten up a bit so I could actually get to the beach.

I texted Pete back when I got to the beach and found he was already there waiting. He showed me the search area, and I started at what he thought was ground zero, and spiraled out from there. Naturally, since he had been there earlier in the day, the tide was at a different level, people had come and gone, so, figuring out exactly where they had been camped wasn’t a sure thing. After quite a bit of the supposed search area was covered, I was beginning to wonder if someone had already found it. I was finding a few other targets with similar target I.D.’s so I was still hopeful that it was still there somewhere. At the end of one of my passes, I was dodging around where some people were sitting and hit an area a bit out of the initial search area. It was an area where I was going to expand into next. I could see that people had been there recently by the disturbed sand. Sure enough, I got a nice solid 15 on my Equinox and found Pete’s ring. A happy Pete can now go home and make his wife feel a bit better. Nice to meet you Pete and thank you for the reward.

Lost Wedding Ring Found Dumfries, Virginia

Nikki and her husband David were enjoying their lovely backyard with the family. While David was playing with one of the children, his ring flew off and bounced off the patio and into the wet grass. After they searched unsuccessfully, they called me. I searched about 45 minutes before finding the ring embedded in the mud under the wet grass. So happy to have met patriots like Nikki & David. A portion of their reward has gone to Fisher House.

Lost large gold wedding ring, New Symrna Beach, Fl…..Found in ocean and returned!

Kim was relaxing at New Symrna Beach with her family and was especially enjoying the warm tidal pool area! She was in knee deep water and was pushing herself around–alligator style–using her hands to pull and push her way along and then « IT » happened! She felt her wedding ring come off of her finger and before she could blink, her ring disappeared into the sand below the water. She stopped immediately and called out for help and in an instant she was surrounded by a group of family and new found friends all wanting to help. They all walked around bent over here and there intently looking into the shallow water, hoping to catch the glimmer of gold! They searched for a while and then slowly began to realize the futility of looking for such a small ring in that sort of environment. Kim was distraught because her wedding ring was actually made up of various family hand-me-down rings that were used to make her one-of-a-kind ring.

Later on that day Kim posted on Facebook about her loss and someone recommended a very specialized group of metal detectorists that actually help people find their lost jewelry. So Kim decided to look up theringfinders.com and up popped my name and one of my stories. She promptly gave me a call and I decided to try and look real early the next morning just after low tide to see if I could find her ring. But I was a bit too late, as low tide was at 4:30am and sunrise was at 6:30 two hours after low tide. I spent an hour and a half looking and as I dug each target, Kim’s heart would soar and then plummet as I revealed a variety of items. As I exited the water, Kim acknowledged that I gave it a noble effort and had all but resigned herself to accepting the sad realization that her ring would not be found. (I knew that later in the evening there would be another low tide and I assured her that I was coming back at 3:00pm to chase that low tide out and cover the tidal pool area once again…and much more thoroughly!). That was wonderful news to Kim’s ears and a blessing to her hurting heart. Earlier, while Kim was anxiously watching me search, a friendly lady stopped and asked what I was looking for and Kim, with tears running down her face, explained her dilemma. The dear lady asked if she could pray for Kim and right there on the beach they bowed their heads and prayed together. Kim told me later that she immediately felt peace and a calmness come over her.

I returned later on that day two hours before low tide and the tidal pool where Kim was swimming was very obvious and now I began another grid search making sure I covered every inch of water. It took only 30 minutes to hear that sweet, sharp sound of gold! I motioned to Kim with a big thumbs up and I could see the emotions and tears of joy flooding over her and I silently thanked God for answering the prayer of a dear stranger just passing by!

Lost diamond ring in surf, Ormond Beach, Florida….found with metal detector!

Geoff emailed me after searching the web for someone to help find his daughters lost engagement ring in the churning ocean! She had just gotten the ring a few months before and the poor young lady had been crying for the last three days. So many times it happens….folks receive or purchase a nice piece of jewelry and then in a moment….it is gone! In this case they were enjoying the beach, the water and the waves and as they were wading out into the surf all it took was one split second for an unexpected wave to hit them while their backs were turned and BAM!! We all have been hit by these waves and many have lost sunglasses, chains, goggles, hats, ear rings, and in this case…a very beautiful and meaningful diamond engagement ring.

Geoff, the young lady’s father, was also heart broken for his daughters loss and wanted to do all in his power to help find her ring. And as impossible as it may seem, he began to have a glimmer of hope as we emailed back and forth. I asked my usual stream of questions and we decided to meet the next day on the beach two hours before low tide. (I am also very optimistic when someone looses something during high tide because that usually puts the item further up on the beach-instead of way out past the first sandbar where it can be quite rough and much more difficult to conduct a thorough search!).

I met Geoff and his dear wife the next day and we walked out onto the beach where his daughter, four days earlier, had lost her ring. I tried to stress how important it was to try and remember exactly where she was when she lost her ring…and thankfully Geoff answered by pointing to a large hotel and indicated where they had parked their vehicle. Then he went on to show me where they had been in the water and I was very thankful that the area was relatively small. I set out my favorite pink flags, marking an area on the wet sand, to help keep me going in straight lines in and out of the water and then I began to swing my water proof metal detector slowly back and forth. It was a beautiful day and normally these types of searches can take a few hours but within minutes I began to dig signals in the sand. First a coin, then a rusty nail and 20 minutes later up pops a very stunning diamond ring. All I could see at first was a rather large diamond sticking out of the sand and I wondered if I had actually found someone else’s ring. I picked it up and was amazed at how beautiful it was. I motioned for Geoff to come see what I had just found and then I asked them to describe his daughter’s ring. They both quickly blurted out a perfect description and as I opened my hand to reveal the ring, Geoff let out a string of expletives and was visibly stunned in unbelief. He quickly apologized for his language but continued to walk in circles saying how he could not believe I actually found the ring.

It was an honor to help Geoff and his family and I am available to help you!
