Lost ring at the beach, Ormond Beach, Fl….Found with metal detector!

Brenda and a friend were driving south along the Atlantic coast of Florida heading into the Ormond Beach area and decided to stop at one of the sandy parking areas along the road. Here and there they could see wooden board walks going over the dunes making it easy access to the beach but it just so happened that where they pulled off there were no such walkways. Instead there was a small trail that led onto the beach which was OK as here there were less people. After walking onto the sand Brenda removed her special heirloom ring and put it into the bottom of her bag thinking she would get it later on. For 45 minutes they enjoyed the sun, sand and cool ocean breezes and then headed back to the car. Before getting into her car Brenda opened the back of her Ford Escape and pulled a towel from her bag to wipe the sand off of her feet. Two hours later she arrived home in Dade City and as she went through her bag and car she could not find her precious ring. Slight panic set in as it slowly dawned on her that just maybe her ring had come out somewhere at the stop along the beach.

After receiving and reading Brenda’s text I agreed that it would be a long shot..BUT…I have seen miracles happen and I tried to encourage Brenda to not give up HOPE! We texted back and forth and I asked a ton of questions to try and narrow down the exact search area. Four days later I decided to make the one hour drive. I had drawn up a map of the most likely places to search and my number one spot most resembled what Brenda described and as I pulled off the road I could see the area had received allot of rain and there was a large puddle of water all along the side of the road. My plan was to search the parking area first and then work my way down onto the beach. It was raining cats and dogs so I put on my rain coat and boots, grabbed my water proof ATMax metal detector and carefully made my way along the edge of the road, being careful of the cars passing close by doing at least 45 mph! My first pass netted a few pull tabs and two pennies and half way back I got a sweet 45 reading that no one in their right mind would pass up. Being as it was in the middle of the puddle I used my Garrett AT pin pointer and grabbed a handful of sand and slowly rinsed my hand in the water to reveal a glimmer of gold! I was stunned as I stared at Brenda’s gold, diamond and opal heirloom ring in my hand! A shout of joy left my lips as I looked towards heaven and thanked my God Almighty for allowing me the blessing and opportunity of finding Brenda’s lost ring. I immediately took a selfie and texted Brenda, who was in the middle of helping her sister move. I waited a couple of minutes…and nothing. So I called her…she answered…and I asked if she saw my text? She hadn’t and for the next few minutes she was so overwhelmed that she could not talk, so I shared the details with her dear sister. What a thrill it is to be a part of such a joyous moment!

Lost wedding ring while playing in the pool, Altamonte Springs, Florida….Found with metal detector and returned to owner!

Eric and his son were relaxing in their pool and decided to hit a volleyball back and forth to each other. Eric’s heavy platinum wedding ring was a little loose on his finger but he figured he would be just fine. As they finished up Eric noticed his hand felt different and looking down he realized his wedding ring was gone! He thought more than likely it fell off into the pool so they proceeded to search the pool bottom but NO RING! Next was the thick grassy area alongside the pool and they looked that area over a few times, even trying to use an app that one can access on your phone, but NO RING! By this time it was getting later on into the evening and his next thought was to buy or rent a metal detector and then figure out how to set it up and decipher the sounds that it emits. Having shared his situation with his family it was his mother who found theringfinders.com web site and sent Eric my number.

I showed up early to search for Eric’s lost wedding ring and as I looked the search area over I hoped and prayed his ring did not land in the canal as it looked like prime snake and alligator habitat. I began with the thick grassy area and after 10 minutes or so it was obvious it had not landed there. I moved to a concrete planter that ran the length of the yard and came up empty there as well. Next was a small grassy strip on the back side of the planter that I needed to go over before going into the murky waters of the canal. About half way along the small strip I got a sharp signal, loud and promising, and there was Eric’s lost wedding ring laying in the grass! Eric was stunned and could not imagine how it landed there but as we looked it over it was quite obvious that it had flown through the flowers and landed softly on the other side of the planter.

I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to help Eric and I am ready and waiting to help others who find themselves in the same predicament. Call or text, ASAP!

Lost wedding ring in Lake Howell, Casselberry, Florida….Found!

How many times have you put something in your pocket only to find later that it was no longer there? It happens all the time and my last call was from a young, newly married man who had this very thing happen to him. He explained how he had his 4 day old wedding ring on his finger and as he was walking down to the dock to do a little fishing he thought how terrible it would be to lose his ring while casting out over the water and he did not want that to happen. So he took off his ring and slipped it into his pocket along with his cell phone. Now that his ring was safely tucked away he walked out to the end of the dock and began to fish. It wasn’t long before someone gave him a call and he reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone to answer. And the unthinkable happened as he heard his 4 day old, white gold wedding ring hit the dock and then the unmistakable sound of it dropping into the water below. Stunned and shocked he could not believe it! How could this happen and why and how was he going to tell his wife and how could he ever retrieve it? All these questions flooded into his mind and then…a thought came to him…from God, I believe. « Metal Detector! » So he typed that into his phone and theringfinders.com web site came up. He could hardly believe that there was, and is, a service that offers hope and help to people who find themselves in desperate need to find something that has been lost!

I met Julian the next morning and he showed me where he dropped his ring. He said the water was only a few feet deep but I usually take a pole with markers on it to indicate the water depth…and it showed a little over 7 feet deep. (I am learning to take all my equipment on these types of searches as I would rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it!). As we loaded my gear and walked onto the dock we spotted a large southern water snake…that looks allot like our cottonmouth or water moccasin and I assured Julian that he was just sunning himself and looking for smaller prey and I had nothing to be afraid of. I set up my ladder and tied it off to the dock and laid my scuba tank with the valve hanging over the edge. I attached my octo/regs, put on my weight belt and mask, grabbed my hand held Scuba Tector with the 6 inch coil and slowly descended into the cool murky waters. Visibility was only 10 to 12 inches so I carefully made my way to the corner piling of the dock sweeping the small detector as I went along. Targets were numerous and being as Julian had just dropped his ring the day before I figured to be looking for a surface target. The silt was minimal and I found it fairly easy going as I settled into a routine. Sweep the detector, hear a signal, feel through the top 2 inches of silt and sand and then onto the next target. It took 15 minutes of searching to find that unmistakeable feel of a large mans ring and then I slowly made my way to the surface. As I lifted my hand out of the water to show Julian his ring I could see the relief and joy on his face as he lifted his hands towards heaven and said thank you over and over again!

Lost ring in the grass, Maitland, Fl….Found and returned to owner!

Jacob and his girlfriend were at a church event when it came time to step out on the grass behind the church and have a free-for-all with a large tub of water balloons. And after it was all said and done Jacob looked down and realized his special class ring was gone and he could not believe it had come off of his finger without him realizing it! He and a few friends immediately started looking thru the grass hoping to spot his large gold ring. With only a few weeks left of school–his senior year at that—he could not imagine graduating without his ring. Part of his class ring has symbols that commemorate his dear grandfather so it held allot of sentimental value to Jacob and his family.

Jacob’s mother came to the rescue by typing « Metal detector rental Orlando, Florida » on her phone and theringfinders.com web site came up. (People are so surprised to hear that there actually is a very unique service which helps people find their lost rings. A skilled group of metal detector enthusiasts who offer their time, talents and abilities to help people find what they thought was lost forever!)

After talking to Jacob and making arrangements to meet later in the day I packed up my van and headed towards Orlando. As I drive I try to imagine what sort of search is ahead for me. I always let my family and my elderly parents (Father is 89 and my mother is 88) know that I am heading out on a search and I ask them to pray for me, that God would help me be a blessing and that He would lead me to find whatever it is that has been lost.

Later that afternoon I met Jacob and he showed me the area where they were all running around and throwing balloons. He mentioned he was throwing mostly toward the road so I set out my 4 corner flags and began my tight grid search. It took 20 minutes or so to cover the main area and I began thinking about how and where he would have been throwing and I told Jacob to walk side by side with me as we searched with our eyes the short, trashy area on the other side of the road. I explained that his ring very easily could have gone quite a distance past the small grass area and I pointed to the chainlink fence along the railroad tracks and said, « Look that area over as well, because there is a good chance it went thru the fence ». So Jacob began walking the fence line and I returned to swinging my detector. Within minutes I heard Jacob holler, « There it is!! » And low and behold his ring was sitting on the rocky gravel area a few feet behind the fence. We borrowed a ladder from the good people at the church and I went over the fence to retrieve his ring! Jacob was so relieved to have his ring back and I was thrilled for him as well!

Friday morning Dion went to the front door to let his dog outside and in the dogs excited state there was some confusion about not exiting the house fast enough. Dion was wanting his dog to hurry along and he swung his left hand underhanded like…sort of in a bowling style motion and he felt his unique, custom made wedding ring come off of his finger. He heard a ping sound, as if his ring had struck something metal and it just plain disappeared. He was sure it landed close by and proceeded to search all through the low bushes along the side walk. He even went as far as removing all the bushes…he told me later that they didn’t like those bushes anyway…so all that was left was the pine bark mulch and dirt! Dion was bound and determined to find his two piece, interlocking, platinum and yellow gold wedding ring which he has worn for the past 11 years.

Friday night was a very difficult night for Dion as he struggled with the thought of never seeing his lost wedding ring again. In desperation he went online and looked up « How to find a lost ring » and up came theringfinders.com and as he read what we are all about he started to find some hope. He sent out a request to one of our members and they were able to do a short search but they were unable to locate Dion’s lost wedding ring. Dion knew his lost ring had to be there in his front yard somewhere so he gave me a call and explained what happened. It was a two hour drive that took me up into the beautiful Ocala National Forest area and I was anxious to see what the front of his house looked like and where his ring was hiding. After meeting Dion and hearing his story there was one key fact that stuck out to me. He said that when he waved his hand at the dog the sound of his ring hitting something was not immediate but delayed. That information told me his ring struck the sidewalk or driveway out a good ways from the front door. Both sides of the sidewalk had been thoroughly searched so I determined it must have landed out in the grass some 30 to 40 feet from where Dion had been standing. It took only a minute or two to set up my Garrett ATMax metal detector and within minutes I got my first promising signal—Platinum! And a couple of swings later—Yellow Gold!

Dion was overjoyed and rushed inside to tell his wife and as I walked along I silently thanked God for allowing me to be a blessing to this young couple and their 8 kids!

Lost wedding ring in ocean, Toronita Beach, Fl….Found and Returned!

I received an email from Omar stating, « I just realized this morning that I lost my wedding ring. It probably happened at Toronita Beach yesterday evening. The tide was high and I was boogie boarding. Please call me if you think there is a chance that you can find it. » It was close to midnight when I read Omar’s plea for help and I answered immediately wanting to encourage and instill some hope. I always start by asking some very pertinent questions like…What time of the day were you in the water? Did you feel your ring come off? How large of an area did you swim in and how long were you in the water? How deep was the water where you were boogie boarding and how far out did you go? Thankfully Omar responded early the next morning and gave very descriptive answers to all my questions regarding the how, when and where! And one key piece of information about their boogie boarding was he and his daughters were trying to see how far they could ride the waves all the way to the wet sand. With that knowledge and the fact they were in the water at « high tide » put the target area in a much easier part of the beach to metal detect, especially at low tide!

The next morning I met Omar at the beach, two hours before low tide, and he showed me the area where he and his family spent the evening boogie boarding. One thing he did mention was that while they were in the water he remembered a yellow house up past the dunes and they never went past the south side of that property. So that gave me a starting point. I promptly set up some flags in the sand every 15 feet apart until I had an area approximately 150 feet wide. By this time low tide was an hour away and I was hoping and praying that his ring would be somewhere in the wet sand area. After saying a prayer with Omar in the parking lot I geared up and started my systematic grid search and worked my way from the first flag and headed out to the waters edge and back. It took about an hour to cover half of the area and I managed to find a few coins and the occasional rusty nail. At one point I popped out a large gold hoop earring and just the edge was exposed in the sand and I thought, « There is Omar’s ring! » But false alarm! Fifteen minutes later I got a great signal on my Whites TDI Beach Hunter metal detector and low and behold it was Omar’s beautiful gold ring!

Omar put it this way…. »After over 21 years, I lost my ring for the first time. My wife sympathetically searches my brain and our house but the ocean waves are the thief. First reaction horror. Then disbelief, confusion, disappointment, frustration. Hopelessness pairs with helplessness until I arrive at a desperate web search. Theringfinders.com. Do I dare to hope? I send out an SOS email. Mike responds with a shower of useful questions. I carefully respond to each one. He graciously responds building cautious optimism. « God willing I will find your ring. » We meet at the beach. The search process begins. His faith and experience at work. I retreat back to my job, un-expectantly settled and able to focus. Excited about premonition in my life. In just a few hours Mike unearths a victory. I become like a little child filled with an excitement not felt in decades. The ring is not just a comfortable object, but symbolic of so much more to me. Brett called me Sunday evening and asked if I was still helping people find their lost rings. That is usually a dead give away that they or someone close to them, needs help! Brett went on to explain that earlier that day he and his family were on the beach enjoying the sun. sand and surf and while playing catch with a football he felt his ring slip off of his finger. He was only in ankle deep water and he thought he would be able to retrieve it but try as he might, he could not find his lost ring. He said he was really bummed out and he slowly gave up hope of ever seeing his lost wedding ring again.
Later that evening , while at a restaurant, Brett’s friend showed him his phone and said, « Take a look at this! ». And there displayed on his screen was theringfinders.com web site and a story about a successful lost ring recovery. That was all it took for Brett to find my name and number and the next morning we made arrangements to meet on the beach.
Bright and early the next day Brett and his lovely wife, Christian, showed me the area where the ring fell into the water and I set up my four flags and started searching. Nothing showed up in the 20 X 40 foot area so I expanded my grid to either side. Fifteen minutes into the search and I got a cracking signal on my Dual Field Whites metal detector and three inches down was Brett’s lost ring. As I shook the sand from the scoop I looked up and Christina and her friend were sunning themselves and they did not notice that I had found the lost ring. So I walked up to their lounge chairs and shook the scoop so they could hear the clinking sound of the ring and that brought them to their feet! The relief and joy on Christina’s face and the long hug was evident that this day was going to be remembered for a long time. Lost wedding ring, Orlando, Florida…..Found and Returned!

James called me on Thursday and wanted to know how theringfinders services worked and asked if I could help him. He told me that while mowing his yard and doing some trimming he lost his wedding ring and having only been married for 5 months, he said it was not a good time for losing his ring! I explained briefly how I operate and that I would be more than happy to help him find his lost ring. So I arrived at James’s house around 4pm and was met by Tamra and Chloe. Tamra proceeded to show me the back yard and the chain link fence where James had pulled some weeds and later trimmed some small banana trees. It took an hour and a half to find James’s ring and it was not where I thought it would be! There it was in the middle of the yard hiding in the thick grass and no where near the fence or the banana trees! Later that evening James wrote: « Hey Mike, I just wanted to express to you my gratitude and thankfulness for finding my lost wedding ring! My wife and I so much appreciate what you have done for us and want to say a heart felt thank you, thank you!!

Lost college class ring, Lake Mary, Florida……found and returned!

Dave was spraying a mixture of cleaners on his two story home roof, hoping to kill some of the Florida mildew that was growing on his shingles. The pump sprayer he was using began to leak and his hand started to burn. The burning steadily got worse until he had to stop and he then noticed his fingers were actually beginning to bleed! So he tried shaking the liquid off of his hand and the motion caused his 2007 UCF class ring to go flying. Actually only three quarters of his ring went flying as his 14k gold ring had come apart in three pieces. Dave was able to see his ring, shining in the grass down below and after rinsing his hand he went to where he last saw his ring….but he could not find it anywhere. He tried raking the area hoping to bring it to the surface but still his ring remained hidden in the thick grass. Dave then went out and bought himself a small metal detector hoping that it would help locate his lost ring but still no luck. He then went on line and typed in « How to find a ring in the grass » and up popped theringfinders.com and one of the search stories. So he gave me a call and we discussed his situation and I felt quite confident that I could help him find his lost ring. Later that evening I met Dave and he showed me the small grassy area where he dropped his class ring off of the roof. I set my metal detector to the coin and jewelry mode and right away there was obvious electrical interference that caused the detector to chatter constantly. By switching to the Prospecting Mode I was able to begin searching the most likely areas. And sure enough I soon got a nice solid, repeatable signal with low numbers and it pinpointed very shallow. Dave was so grateful to get his lost ring back and it was great to see the joy and relief as he firmly shook my hand.
