While recently swimming with his brothers at Harding’s Beach, our grandson Colin, found that the cross given to him by his parents for Confirmation in 2019 was no longer attached to his neck chain. It has a very special meaning for Colin, and he was devastated when he lost it. The family searched along the shore for the cross to no avail. Colin’s grandmother, my wife Mary, would not be deterred, and after obtaining the contact number for a metal-detector service who had left a business card at the parking shack, contacted the Ring Finders, an organization of individuals who are dedicated in providing their services, their slogan being « We never give up. » We thank two dedicated guys, Rick Browne and Leighton Harrington, for their efforts, which resulted in the recovery of the cross in two feet of water three days after it was lost. Apple iPhone10 found at Smuggler’s Beach Cape Cod, MA and returned.

The 4th of July passed without anyone calling for help in finding a lost item. Tuesday was a day for a walk in the ocean keeping up with exercise and keeping the old body moving. It was after three coins in the first hour before I heard a big target. My first scoop missed it, the second was taken with a bit more care not to mar the object which turned out to be an Apple iPhone 10. I continued on detecting with Leighton who was finding just a very few finds also.

Back at the car, the iPhone powered up but was locked and had almost no charge. We turned it off and went on to detect in a few freshwater ponds. At home I put the iPhone on the charger and after about a half an hour of charging I tried to power it up again. This time I saw a message on the screen that the phone had been reported as LOST. The best was the last sentence “Please call 508-xxx-xxxx”, which I did. Luckily the group had only started their way off Cape Cod heading home. They had been in traffic for about an hour, turned around and in less than a half hour they arrived at my home to retrieve the phone. A few quick pictures, a grateful hug and they were off on the trip back home again.

Justin, the owner of the phone that had been bought with his mother’s help had all of Justin’s photos and personal information which he was more than thrilled to have back. He had been on the beach, but not in the water and believes the phone fell out of his pocket. The tides over the 5 days it was in the salt water must have pulled the phone into about 3 feet of water where I found it. Had Justin’s friend, Colby, not put up the notice on the phone there would have been no way for me to unlock and retrieve any information that might have been used to return the phone. We all agreed that everyone should have this type of information on the startup screen or on an I.C.E. (In Case of Emergency) screen, just in case…

On June 27th Rick Browne from the Ring Finders called and invited me to search for a silver cross that was lost the day before. I declined because of the high winds, rain, and BIG surf, and lots of heavy seaweed moved into the search area. Rick said he was going anyway to give it a quick scan. He called me later on that evening and said I made the correct decision that it was useless, he could just about move the detector because of waves and thick seaweed.
We touched base on the next morning and again he asked if I wanted to give it another try. I said I’m in. We met up, and went to the general area he was told it was possibly lost. Still lots of seaweed but less waves. We made our way out into water, Rick went his way, and I in the opposite direction. After about 45 minutes we both shrugged our shoulders, we still had no signals.  I made my way over to the outside of the grid area, and finally i got a lonely signal, but it was low, not high like silver, hmm? Low tone usually means Gold. As I dug it, Rick kept heading out into deeper water. As I looked deep into my scoop, sure enough it was the Silver CROSS that we were searching for. Puzzled a bit, when I motioned to Rick he looked surprised. He made his way over to see what I had found. He said “That’s It”  I flipped it over and it said 14K.  Makes sense it was White Gold. (Silver Color)
Rick & I went up to car and took a few pictures, then called Mary and Dave her husband… They couldn’t  believe we had found it. They took no time to get to us. Jennifer and Keith her husband bought the Cross for their son Colin. It was for his Confirmation in Jan of 2019. It has a very special meaning. Colin was devastated when he lost it. Rick and I are so glad that its back where it belongs. God Bless him and his family for believing in us. We never give up.

Found Olympic Ring!

After a marriage proposal on the beach, an Olympian lost a ring commemorating her participation as the first female to represent Puerto Rico in Rowing on their Olympic team. Her fiance found me here on The Ringfinders and I went to find locate it. Baker Beach is Federally regulated so we aren’t allowed to detect there normally but going on a quest to find a lost ring?! I was going to get it done no matter what.

And I did!

Class ring found – Dauphin Island, Alabama

It was quite some time ago when Brittnee’s mom asked if I could find her daughter’s lost class ring. It was very sentimental to her as it had been bought for her by her now deceased grandmother.  The only problem was that she gave me a very large search area on the beach – everywhere from up by the dunes playing volleyball to swimming all the way out to some sea wall rocks. I went and searched with no luck. Because it’s a beach where I detect frequently, I looked again. And again. And again ! It took me 18 months to get that smile, but persistence pays off !!

Lost Charm bracelet found – Dauphin Island, Alabama

Night before last I got a call from Lacey asking if I could come find her sister Nichole’s lost James Avery charm bracelet in the sand at the beach. She had placed it in her chair cup holder, but apparently forgot and dumped it out when picking it up to put it away. It was very sentimental to her, as she told me she had been adding charms to it for several years. It was rather late and I was 45 minutes away so I promised I would come early the next morning. I arrived and was relieved to see that they were renting a vacation house directly on a small private beach. They had marked off a square where they thought it might be so I set off carefully gridding the area with my Equinox 800. Within minutes, I got a signal that was much deeper than I expected a fresh drop to be and definitely not as loud as I would have thought. First scoop – nothing. Second scoop – nothing. Third scoop – and there was her shiny silver bracelet sparkling in the dry sand. Nichole happily placed it back on her wrist and gave me a hug. I (as always !) turned down her offered reward and asked only for a picture of her smiling – the best reward ever !

**I received a call from a young frantic man who had only been married 1 month. He told me he went to the beach with his family over the Memorial Day Weekend and while packing up noticed his gold & diamond wedding ring was missing. He said he searched the entire area of the beach where they were and even the next day went and bought a metal detector still unable to find his ring. He lived out of State and was on is way home. I asked if a family member could meet me at the beach and show me the area he believed he lost the ring.  I searched the entire area and was unable to find the ring. I asked if he had been in the water? He told me he only went into the water to wash his hands but he made sure the ring was still on his finger when he got out of the water. He was positive the ring was not lost in the water. I checked the tide charts and decided to return later in the day. After searching the water area I was able to find his wedding ring.  Happy Wife = Happy Life…..

Lost Ear ring Returns home Chatham MA

Rick Browne of the Ring Finders was in J & E Enterprises  when a couple walked in to rent a Metal Detector. Upon further conversation with Lisa & Paul, it was obvious that Lisa was very emotional about losing an ear ring earlier the day before. Lisa had mentioned that the ear rings were 20 years old. Rick offered his services to find it, he also made the call to me… I accepted, but hesitant on going. Ear rings are tough to find, especially on a beach. It was lost while trying to re fly a kite that had crashed, the string caught Lisa’s ear and was thought to be lost forever.

We met up with Paul and Lisa, we walked down to the spot where they both thought it should be. I had Lisa stand where she felt it last. Paul went over to a different spot about 45 feet away and marked an X in the sand… I knew we had our work cut out for us… Rick helped me notch out everything but the ear ring on my detector… we had the other one to go by. After we both methodically did the area about 150 square feet we new where it wasn’t.

I started to think outside of the box, and thought that maybe Lisa somehow carried it in her hoodie and didn’t realize it. I started to search near the exit to the beach, and about 20 feet from the boardwalk I got the signal that I knew was the ear ring. Sure enough in my hand was a 1.75 Carrot Diamond ear ring. I called over to Rick and gave him the thumbs up, he smiled and was surprised I had found it so far from where they thought it to be. He said you did it again, good job buddy. I then gave Paul a signal to come over, and motioned to Lisa… I think they were about to give up. Lisa kept repeating did you find it? she just couldn’t believe it, when I dropped it into her hand. She started to cry a bit, and said I restored her faith in people…Lisa said there really are some good ones left in the world. I told her we are not done yet… I needed to get the back part for her… She said she didn’t care about the back, I said I don’t leave Gold on the beach… She chuckled a bit, and about one minute later, I also found the back… Another great day for The Ring Finders… Thanks to Rick helping set the machine up… and Thanks to Lisa and Paul for not giving up… Persistence payed of in a big way…Congratulations …

***I received a call from this young man you told me that several days prior to him calling me he was standing in about two feet of water skimming rocks into the water at which time he felt his ring fly off his hand.  He told me the next day he bought a metal detector and tried to find his ring but but did not have any luck at all.  I informed him that if he directed me to the right area where he was in the water when he lost his ring that I believed I had a good chance of finding it even thou it had been a few days.  He was very hesitant because my profile did not show any recoveries. I informed him that I have recovered hundreds of rings but those recoveries were from different States and I could not display them in my Florida TheRingfinders profile. I texted him photos of many of my recoveries and informed him he had nothing to lose by letting me try and find his ring as there was no charge, if found reward only.

After searching for about a little over 1 hour I was thrilled to see the look on his face when  returned his favorite ring.

Lost 14K Gold Mens Wedding Band Found In Ocean City, Maryland

On 04/13/2022, I received a call from Rick’s wife asking if I could help with finding his lost 14k Gold Wedding Band that had been lost in the sand on the beach in Ocean City, Maryland. I agreed to help find the lost ring and I responded to the location at which time I learned that Rick had been folding up a beach chair when his ring slipped off of his finger and fell into the sand where it disappeared. After a failed attempt to find his ring in the sand Rick and his wife marked the area that the ring was lost in with a stick and then contact me for help. I began a grid search and on my second pass of the area I located the lost ring just west of the stick that had been placed in the sand as a marker. The ring was recovered and return to its rightful owner.
