Lost 14K Gold Mens Wedding Band Found In Ocean City, Maryland

On 04/13/2022, I received a call from Rick’s wife asking if I could help with finding his lost 14k Gold Wedding Band that had been lost in the sand on the beach in Ocean City, Maryland. I agreed to help find the lost ring and I responded to the location at which time I learned that Rick had been folding up a beach chair when his ring slipped off of his finger and fell into the sand where it disappeared. After a failed attempt to find his ring in the sand Rick and his wife marked the area that the ring was lost in with a stick and then contact me for help. I began a grid search and on my second pass of the area I located the lost ring just west of the stick that had been placed in the sand as a marker. The ring was recovered and return to its rightful owner.

I received a text from my fellow ‘theRingFinders’ detectorist and friend, Rob Ellis. He had received a call from a young lady who lost an earring and he referred the job over to me. Rebecca contacted me shortly afterwards about having lost the circular round back part of her 18K white gold earring, the diamond stud sat in the center. Rebecca was staying at a beautiful Bed & Breakfast located on several acres in Warrenton Virginia with family. While out for a stroll on a gorgeous sunny morning she was carrying her son across the field to the house, when her son grabbed her ear and the earring came flying off.

After I gathered a few more details from Rebecca I got on the road and arrived in Warrenton about an hour later. Once I arrived Rebecca showed me the grassy area that she believed the other part of the earring should be as this was the location when her son grabbed her and she had found the stud on her dress. The area was slightly on a hill, with the area where the earring might be was unmowed, probably to ensure the earring didn’t get chopped up or tossed out by the mower blades.

As the item was pretty small I asked Rebecca if I could have her place the other earring on the ground so I could get a signal reading from it, both with the stud and post, and without. Without the earring and the post the signal was very weak, on the Equinox 800 very low tone 2 I was very concerned I wouldn’t be able to locate this weak of a signal in the taller grass.

I started the search in the grassy areas first, gridding up and down to ensure full coverage. As this B&B location is used for weddings and other events, there was a lots of hits I had to sort through, most were high tones and since I was only looking for this specific low tone range it made it a little easier, but a bit frustrating not to dig those other solid signals!! After a couple of hours in the grass and no luck I decided to start back past the pavilion and in between the large shed and gravel area. and BEHOLD, there it was just waiting to be found hiding slightly under a gravel stone.

When I do recover an item I like to just send the owner a picture text and then wait for their reaction, typically priceless. Rebecca came running out the front door yelling « You found it!? », at which time I held it high into the air. Rebecca has been reunited with her precious earring and couldn’t have been happier this day.

Rebecca, it was a pleasure meeting you and I’m thrilled I was able to recover your item for you.

Yellow gold wedding band lost in Roseville, MN – Now found!

Zach was walking his dog in his yard in the snow when, after shaking snow off his hands, he noticed that his wedding band was missing. He rented a metal detector to find it, but came up empty-handed. He contacted 4 days later and I met him at his house the following morning.

We searched the obvious spot (where Zach shook his hands) and spread out about 10 feet from that spot. Having no luck, we decided to grid search the front, back and side yards but still no ring. As a last resort I asked Zach to rake all the snow away from two metal poles that were in his front yard. While Zach raked, I searched a couple less likely spots and found the ring near the house and about 15 feet away from where Zach shook his hands. Neither of us thought the ring could have flown that far! Next time I get the chance to search for a ring, I will search a little farther out from the most likely spot.

Zach was very happy to have his ring back on his finger.

Lost ring recovered from the Big Lake They Call Gitche Gumee

I received a call from another Ring Finder from Southeastern Wisconsin (Paul Humphrey) about a party that had lost a ring up in Lake Superior and was wondering if I would be able to go up and assist a couple with finding their ring.  Paul was about 4-5 hours away and thought I would be closer.  He said that he would go if I was unable to make it. Superior Wisconsin is east of Duluth Minnesota by about 5 miles. Its about 2 ½ hours North of the Twin cities.  I told him that indeed I would be able to help them out, and that they could get ahold of me to set up a time that would work.  A short time later I received a call from Grace stating that her husband was in the lake at Wisconsin Point playing with their Labrador and when he got out, he noticed that his ring was missing.  He was not very far out in the lake but was not sure where he lost it. Wisconsin Point has several beautiful sandy beaches and has some sand bars that that go out about 250’ only about 3-4’ deep.  Grace sent me overhead photos with the location somewhat marked out.

I went up on a weekday while they were at work. I had a pretty good idea from talking to them and the photos where they were at. One thing that was said was they were on a sand bar. So when I got up I called them and let them know I was up looking for the ring. I was unable to reach either one of them but did leave messages for them.  So I started working the beach and the edge of the lake with my metal detector.  I was working a long narrow stretch about 400’ long.  I noticed a sand bar and recalled something said about that, so I decided to work out a couple hundred feet. All places that would be a great place to play with a dog.  I spent around 5 hours working the sand bar.  Beautiful weather, sunny skies, surf was calm, and very few people to work around. Near the end of the day a gentleman walked up and introduced himself as the person that had lost the ring. He said that I was 250’ to far east.  So I moved over and started working the area that he said he was in.  A storm front moved in and was starting to lightning about 15 minutes after moving to the new location.  We were forced to pull out for safety and would have to come back another time.

About a week or two later I went back up and was looking in the area that was pointed out to me.  I started my day working the beach where they had set up for the afternoon.  I just wanted to rule out the sandy beach before going into the water.  It would not take long, and I could be reasonably certain that that area was cleared.  While searching the beach what appeared to be a mother, daughter and a toddler were out on the beach in the area around where I was searching. The toddler was so cute and was mesmerized by my swinging the detector back and forth. She would follow me just to see what I was doing.  It was added to the enjoyment of the search.  I briefly spoke to the adults about what I was doing and that I was on a mission rather than just scavenging looking for lost items.

After that I went back out into the water, another beautiful day. Surf was calm and a beautiful day to be out searching. I was working a 100’ wide area going back and forth along the beach working my way out further into the water. The beach had a drop off about 15’ out that dropped down about 2 feet.  It was difficult to cover the area that had the slope being sand. I worked it from the top side and then the bottom side.  I found a cell phone and some miscellaneous junk items.  After about hour I was out about 35 feet and I picked up a signal. It was not a signal that I was thinking would be the ring but scooped it up. I could not believe it, it was the ring.  A beautiful rose gold ring with black diamonds just as they described.  I kind of let out a little YES after I found it and the folks on the beach were excited that I had recovered it.  They came over and seen the ring and where amazed at being able to find that small ring in such a large body of water.

Being 2 hours north of home I called and again was unable to get ahold of Grace and left her a message I was hoping I could meet up with her to give the ring back.  She called me back about 10 minutes later.  “ Hey Grace are you working today? I have something that I would like to get back to you”– No she said she was taking her dog to the vet. But you could tell her excitement. She said she was thinking of going out and buying a new ring later that day. I told her I would meet up with her at her vets office and return the ring.  In the moment I forgot to get photos of the ring being returned to her but they did send back one of the ring back where it belonged.  I did capture a couple of photos on the beach.

What another wonderful recovery. It never gets old helping people recover lost items.

11:15 PM I got a call from a young man whose wife lost a beautiful diamond ring at Jericho Beach while they were watching fireworks for Halloween. I could tell the panic in his voice and how much he wanted me to come out and search for it. The only problem was I was I was getting up at 5 AM to go to work and the beach is 40 minutes away from my home. After talking for five minutes I jumped in my car and headed to the beach to help them look for his wife’s diamond ring. I made it to the beach at 12:15 AM and met the young couple they show me the area where they believe the ring was lost, he told me he raced off to the store and bought a metal detector and search for it but could not find it. That’s OK because a lot of people buy or rent Metal Detector’s and don’t find their ring, the differences is I have 50 years of experience and know how to think out-of-the-box.

Well that being said after two hours of searching I could not find her ring??? I extended the search far and beyond the hot spot with no success, I asked more questions and found out later that there was a possibility when she took her gloves off at one part of the beach it may have come off then. We searched that area for a little bit but it was getting too late, I had to get home and get some sleep because I was working the next morning.

I got home shortly after 3 AM and got a couple hours asleep and went to work, I started thinking about the search and what I could do when I went back that evening. I contacted Martan and asked him if it was OK if I went back to research the area without them being there, he said absolutely!

After a 13 hour day at work with a little sleep, I headed straight out to the beach I re-searched the area with no luck then expand the search to where she believed the ring could’ve come off when she took off her gloves.  I searched there and that took almost an hour of searching with no luck!

I  went back to the hotspot and headed towards the water, this was the area that they told me the ring could not possibly be found because she was never in that area…. Guess what? you guessed! that’s where it was found. I always tell my members to think out-of-the-box we listen to our clients but we also have to listen to our hearts and our experience. I knew there was a ring there, I just had to go over to find it… I found it just before midnight and was able to meet up with them that evening and give it back. I was so excited to see that in my sand scoop! What a beautiful ring and that ring gets to go back to the young lady and that story gets to continue. I met such a lovely couple and I was so excited to be able to help them recover this beautiful ring.

Lost Mens Platinum Wedding Band On The Beach In Lewes, Delaware Found

On 06/16/2021, I was contacted by Joe in regards to his Platinum Wedding Band that he had lost on the beach at Cape Shores Development in Lewes, Delaware. Joe request my help in finding his lost ring. Upon contacting Joe at the beach he showed me two areas that he had been sitting when the ring was lost. I began a grid search of the first area and I was unable to locate the ring. Joe had chairs and an umbrella on the sand in the second area that I was to search so I requested that he move the items so that I could begin my search. While the chairs and umbrella were being moved I walked over to a corner of the area where I had decided that I would begin my search. Joe was still moving the items out of my way so I laid the coil of my detector on the sand at which time I heard a tone in my headset. I scooped up the sand from where I received the tone and low and behold there was Joes lost ring. I called out to Joe and told him that he did not need to remove anymore of his beach items because his ring had been found. The ring was then returned to its rightful owner.

Lost Silver Cross Pendant On Bethany Beach In 2020 Found

On 08/04/2020, I was contacted by Renee in regards to a silver cross pendant that had been lost on the beach in Bethany Beach, Delaware. Renee stated that the silver cross pendant had been lost by her daughter and that the silver cross pendant was « Very Special » because her younger daughter had received it from her older sister who was deceased. Upon arriving at the beach Renee and her daughter showed me the area that the silver cross pendant had been lost and the area was marked by sections of wood. I stared a grid search of the area inside the sections of wood and was able to recover the lost pendant with only a few swings of my detector. The pendant was then returned to its rightful and very grateful owner.

West Yarmouth, Cape Cod, MA Lost Wedding Band Found and Returned

The last of the beach cleanups were in progress and all went well. The docks were in, the boats as well. It was now time for a relaxing cool off in the lake. As it usually happened when one has weight changes their ring does not resize to echo the body’s change. Then it happens, the ring slips off and disappears underwater and down into the sand, not to be seen without help.

The three, Jim, Joe, and Jeff all knew they would need help in finding Jim’s wedding band. Several calls to friends for a detector that would not self-destruct when used underwater did not produce such a detector. A call to the local Metal Detector Dealer (Eleanor at J&E Enterprise) gave the threesome a lead. They should make a local call to Rick Browne – one of TheRingFinders and Jeff did. I answered the call and set a noon meeting time for the next day as it was almost dark. All was set yet, the night would have some anxious moments.

Leighton and I showed up a bit early as our earlier Ring Return only took a few minutes to complete.
A quick overview of the area were the loss occurred and we were into the water to search for the ring. A few coin and a bullet gave us hope. After about a minute and a half I had a very good sounding signal and yes a very large circular piece of gold was in the bottom of my scoop. I walked it in and let Jim remove his ring, untouched since it has slipped from his finger. Ring Return number two for the morning had been accomplished.

Many thanks, pictures, stories and a lot of history of the local private pond and resort area. The thrill, history, meeting new and now friends and helping others is the most wonderful part of our hobby. Leighton and I work well together, having the same ethics and desires to reunite a lost object with the owner. September 5th was another of those rewarding days we enjoy so much.

West Dennis Beach, MA – Gives Back Lost Silver Ring

Andrea lost her Wave, Sand and Sea ring while walking the shoreline. For six years the ring had brought Andrea many calming and wondrous thoughts of Cape Cod and its beaches. The loss had happened in the presence of her sister who had lost an earring a few years ago but had forgotten who and how to contact for help. She did called a mutual friend who contacted me. I called and set up a meet to search for the lost ring.

Both women marked the area that the ring was lost at the previous day. Seaweed made it near impossible to swing a detector’s coil, but I managed only to finish the area with out finding the ring. I expanded the search area and within another five minutes I had found the ring.

All that was left to do in the fading sunlight was to snap a few pictures, get a bit of information for the blog, and exchange a few stories. It was a perfect ending to a very hot day on Cape Cod, another “Beautiful Place To Be”.
