Wedding Band Lost 16 Years Ago Found and Returned. Chatham, MA

16 years ago a young sea-goer’s wedding band was pulled off his finger while trying to secure a friend’s boat to a buoy. Searching the surrounding seaweed covered area was unsuccessful in locating the ring. It was to remain hidden for the next 16 years.

While detecting, enjoying my hobby, and avoiding the Corvid-19 virus I found a wedding band with the initials of T.L.F. and a date of 1989 inscribed on the inside of the band. As usual, as I have never been able to find the owner of a wedding band with that information, I was about to put the ring into my pouch for safe keeping when I noticed a name on a large mooring buoy about four feet from me. The name began with an « F ». Could there be a connection between the « F » in the ring and the “F” on the buoy? I had to do some web searching when I got home.

I searched Zillow for street names in the area, the town assessor’s online data base, and other personal information locators for a family name beginning with an “F” and contact information. The search first lead me to a disconnected phone number, several distant possibilities, and a Trust Fund name and finally to a Financial Group, its name was Odyssey. The name was exciting enough, I had to contact them. Of course the financial specialist, Kim, could not give me any information, other than she knew the family. Do to the privacy laws Kim could only promise me she would inquire of someone in the family that may be able to help and have them contact me. A call came back from Kim with bad news…no one with the initials of T.L.F. was know to the contacted family members. Well I tried. But…wait…

About an hour later I received another call, this time it was from Trish. Yes…Trish had some information, but the owner’s initials were not T.L.F. as they were not the owner’s initials, they were an abbreviation for True Love Forever. The owner, Brian, was and still is a close friend of Trish. An arrangement was made for the return of a long missing wedding band. The return sequence of leading to a wedding band’s return was a first for me, all thanks to a coincidence, hunch and the internet.

I woke up to Just another bad dream that won’t go away like we all might have during these epic times. Especially living where life is on lockdown and social distancing has for the first time been enforced,Not only here in sunny San Diego but well all across the globe.

The public beaches and parks have also been closed for many days now.So I never thought I would receive a call by someone in need of my metal detector service that I’ve been apart of since 2014..Then out of the blue,,,John Hughes who’s a fellow local San Diego member of #TheRingFinders calls me requesting my help,,,to help him,help another in need!

Tammy who lives in Escondido had lost a precious gold earring that her husband bought 10yrs ago and it has been extremely difficult to find in their front yard for about a week after searching even with flashlights at night.

This call was a great opportunity to escape out of the house plus I personally felt I have an ESSENTIAL job to help anyone I can,safely during this crisis of course.So we all met while at the residence staying 6+ feet away and I was shown the area where she noticed that her earring was missing while pulling crab grass out of the front yard down a roughly 10X15 slope.

After scanning in this spaghetti like vegetated area amongst loose soil for 10-15 minutes digging up bullet shells along with a few tiny lead/foil pieces… I dug down at just another itchy and scratchy sound on my metal detector that I heard earlier and marked for later then out of amazement sparked a fire shining..like a diamond in the rocks!

Suddenly Tammy and her son rushed out of the front door while hearing us cheering out loud,Then I pointed out exactly where it is so she could pick it up while walking back down the hill.This was definitely an emotional relief for Tammy and the family as well as me & John for being able to successfully help others in need right now.

The toughest part of this search was having to keep a safe X distance,not being able to give a sincere handshake or receive a hug for once in my life on The Ring Finders Metal Detector service or ever in my life.

Diamond ring lost and found metal detecting on vacation in Florida

I was on a family vacation trying out my Fisher Gold Bug 2 on the dry sand when Alma and Gene approached me. I removed my headphones and was asked “Does that thing really work? Do you think it could find a diamond ring?” I introduced myself, explained how I was a Ringfinder, and offered to help them recover their ring.

 

They told how they lost a brand new ring the day before. Alma felt the ring fly off while playing volleyball and that really narrowed down the area. They searched through the sand for several hours over two days, and were almost ready to give-up.

Within a few minutes, I located the ring under the net.
It was one of the highlights of my vacation!!

Diamond Earring Found and Returned

I have looked for jewelry so much that it has become a habit, and sometimes I even find items without a detector.

While visiting a local pool, I found a beautiful diamond earring. Over the next couple of weeks, I asked the lifeguards if anyone reported it in lost & found.

 

 

 

 

I was about to place an ad in the local community newsletter when one of the lifeguards remembered a note on their bulletin board. Someone named Ann did report it the day it was lost, and there was a note with her number! I called Ann and she came to my home to retrieve her earring. I very much appreciate her generous reward, which I donated to Fisher House. It is a great feeling to know this lovely earring got back to the rightful owner.

Dorsey called me about his lost ring. He had been at the beach with his daughter, and had taken it off in order not to lose it. He put it in a bag attached to the half tent he set up know it was safe. When they were ready to leave, not thinking about his ring, he lifted the tent and shook it to get the sand off of it, and the ring came out going into the sand. Not long after he realized what had happened, and searched for it not being able to find it. He had gone home when he called, but agreed to go back and meet me so he could show me where the incident had occurred.

We arrived at the beach about the same time, and Dorsey took me down where they had been sitting. It wasn’t a very big area, and we made sure we were maintaining a safe distance while the search commenced. The ring was there and it did not take long to find. No hugs or pats on the back, no special handshakes, but Dorsey was very thankful I was able to find his ring. Glad to be a help.

Lost Gold Engagement Ring and Wedding Band Set…Recovered from Lake in Tuskegee, AL!

I received a call last night (21 March 2020) from Alexandria.  She sounded very distraught as she told me that she lost her engagement ring and wedding band set just hours earlier while wading in knee deep water at a lake.  Alex asked if I’d be willing to drive to Tuskegee, Alabama to look for her ring.  I’ve never been to Tuskegee before.  I did a quick Google Maps search from my location in Huntsville to Tuskegee.  The trip one-way was 228 miles or almost a 3.5 hour drive!  On my Ring Finders profile page, I advertise that I prefer to stay within a 100 mile radius of Huntsville, but can definitely travel further if needed.  My mentality is that if someone needs my help, I’m willing to travel anywhere to help them.  I got back on the phone, told Alex, « absolutely, » and started planning my trip.

I left early the next morning, so that I could get to the lake in Tuskegee by 8am.  I wanted to give myself plenty of time for the search just in case it turned out to be much harder then I thought it would.  Alex was certain that she felt the ring slip off her finger while she was reaching down in the water.  She also remembered the exact spot she was standing at in the lake.  Based on those two factors, I felt very confident that her ring would be found.

I set up my Equinox 800 and headed into the water.  Once I was at the correct spot, I started my grid search.  I picked up a lot of various signals on my detector.  Alex told me that this was a yellow gold engagement ring that sits inside of a yellow gold wedding band.  The signals I was getting weren’t coming up in the gold range.  I decided to check a few iffy signals, but soon realized the object was too big or too deep to be her ring and moved on.  Then, a few feet to my left, I picked up a solid yellow gold tone on my Nox.  One quick scoop and there lying in the bottom of my Xtreme sand scoop was Alexandria’s beautiful gold ring set still locked together as one piece!!!

I saw pure joy, happiness, and relief on Alex’s face as we all celebrated!  You can definitely see it in the photo below where she’s looking down at the ring back on her finger where it belongs!  I praised and thanked the Lord!  The night before and on my drive to Tuskegee, I asked God to guide me to Alex’s ring.  He sure delivered a quick, safe, and successful search!

Some people might consider that driving 7 hours (450 miles) to spend 10-15 minutes finding a complete stranger’s ring is just plain crazy.  But this is what I live for!  I love conducting these searches and seeing the priceless reaction on someone’s face when you find their lost item and return it to them.  It never gets old!

I received a call from Christi asking for my help in recovering a very special ring she had lost in the back yard. She explained that she had just removed a rock from her dog’s mouth. She then threw the rock towards the arborvitaes hedge line. The next thing she knew her multi generation family heirloom platinum diamond ring was no longer on her finger!  She was a hundred percent absolutely certain the ring flew off and was somewhere in the yard. I told her I would be happy to help her out and I was on my way.

When I arrived she retold the story informing me this time that she actually witnessed two items fly though the air after throwing the rock she had removed from her puppies mouth. She even showed me where the rock she threw had landed close to the hedge line. This was all very reassuring news to me lining this up to be a fairly straight forward recovery scenario. She also informed me that she had already received permission from the neighbor if we needed to search the yard behind the fence. As I investigated the fence I quickly realized it was a metal chain link fence and the neighbors back yard had a water feature under construction with large rocks with many deep cracks. I prepared myself mentally that this could be a challenging search if the ring landed close to a metal fence or worse went into the neighbors yard.

 

               

She also told me she had considered renting a metal detector from one of our local shops. However after seeing TheRingFinders.com she figured it was the most efficient option to call upon an experienced recovery specialist. As many people report she had no idea TheRingFinders even existed and was very happy to have found us.

With my detector in hand I got under way with the search.  Fortunately the arborvitaes hedge line made a great back stop as it didn’t take more than a few quick minutes to locate her cherished heirloom diamond ring. My detector easily rang out a five VDI signal holding true to the platinum ring below. Her puppy even came over to check out what all the fuss was about as I recovered the ring from below the shrubs. Christi was extremely relieved and happy to have her precious ring back on her finger.

    

I was extremely happy to have recovered her ring and quite thankful it did’t fly past the fence into the neighbors yard. Another ring recovered, another smile earned making for a happy day during a time of global stress and health concerns.

Gold Wedding Ring Lost in Yard in Riverside, CA…Found and Happily Returned.

Al called me last week to ask my help in finding his wedding ring. He had been cleaning out a yard drain of dead leaves in his neighbor’s yard, and spreading the leaves out so as to not make a pile of them when he noticed his wedding ring of 46 years missing from his hand. We talked, and he told me that as soon as he secured permission from the neighbor to have me search with my detector, he would call me back. He called yesterday letting me know he had the permission, and we arranged to do the search today.

When I arrived Al was waiting for me. I got my equipment together, and he walked me over to the yard. It was overgrown with grass, and had a thick layer of dead leaves which would create quite a problem in locating a small item like a wedding ring for sure. Al told me he had tried with a detector his wife had purchased for him previously, but without success. I have found that without experience, trying to do the search not knowing how to use the detector usually results in an experiment in frustration for the person looking. I have the time on the detector, and the number of recoveries to know when to press on in an abysmal situation. When I turned the detector on, right away I was experiencing electrical interference, so I adjusted for that. Then there was a chain link fence next to the search area, so when I received a good signal near the fence, I adjusted the pin pointer for that area. The yard was very clean of metal trash, and I got a couple of good signals that proved to be too deep for recent loss. It wasn’t until I got about 20 feet from the drain that I got a great double beep on a shallow signal, put the pin pointer in moving the leaves around, when we both sighted the ring edge on its side pushed into the dirt. Al was so very happy when I lifted it out and handed it to him. He and his wife picked out the rings (hers is similar) 46 years ago when they got married. 46 years, truly a marriage made in Heaven. So glad to be a help, especially in these dire times!

Lost Southern Hemisphere Gold Wedding Band at 4 Seasons Resort Ko Olina…FOUND!!!

This ring find began when I got a call from 4 Seasons Security. Security wanted to know if I could come out to the resort and look for a guest’s ring in the lagoon. Since it was getting late I told them I’d be there at first light. The next morning Security met me on the beach and showed me the general area to hunt and if I found the ring to let them know. I went back to my car to get my Equinox & scoop and when I returned to the beach I met Sean from Sydney Australia. He told me he was the person who lost the ring and confirmed the search area. He told me the previous day after applying sun lotion he walked into the lagoon and in waist deep water his Southern Hemisphere white gold ring fell off. He saw it hit the water then disappear. He told me his wife who would be arriving later today had the Northern Hemisphere ring and they went together to complete the Earth. I had to find it PLEASE!!! I swept this area the previous day so their weren’t any targets until about the fourth leg of the grid search and boom the Nox is screaming. One dig and there in my scoop is half the world in white gold. I motioned to Sean who was on the shoreline that I found it and I swear it looked like he burst into tears. So happy to help reunite these magnificent rings. Aloha to Sean!

Lost Titanium Wedding Band at 4 Seasons Ko Olina Resort…FOUND!!!

This ring find started back on October 10th 2019 when I met Ian from Roseville California. While enjoying his vacation at 4 Seasons Resort his Titanium Wedding band came off somewhere in the lagoon. My initial search didn’t find Ian’s ring and the search area would include scuba as Ian was swimming in a large swath of the lagoon. Then there was a spell of bad weather and surf. A few scuba dives still yielded no ring. Finally on Friday March 6 on a dive outside of Ian’s grid I found a Black Titanium Ring with « Modern Gents » engraved on the inside. I immediately texted the picture to Ian to confirm the recovery. After consultation with the Jeweler it was looking like this might not be his ring. Then the Jeweler confirmed it was possible as they work with other vendors. I told Ian I would mail the ring to him so he could confirm himself once and for all. Ian confirmed it was in fact his ring by sending me a pic and a « Shaka ». Glad to finally get that ring find settled. Aloha to Ian!
