I received a call yesterday from Jon, he was on vacation with his family from Texas. They took a trip to the beach to enjoy their last day in California before flying home. He was out in the surf amongst the breakers, when he got hit by a wave that knocked his ring off of his finger into the churning surf. Shocked to realize his ring was gone, he began trying to find it with goggles on, and the breaking waves moving him all around. He spent about 3 hours searching before he found me on The Ring Finders web site. When he called I asked my general questions, and after he said he did not think he was too deep, I let him know I would be there soon.

When I got there Jon met me, and took me over to the area of the loss. He explained what had happened, and how deep he thought he was. The problem was that the tide was coming in, and now 3 hours later was probably out of reach for me, by the look of the breaking waves. I did a search the best I could out in the surf, with not even a signal, it had been too long, so I told Jon, I would come back at 3:00 AM today when the tide would be at its lowest for the day and do another search. I let him know he would be welcome to meet me if he was so inclined, and he accepted the invitation. I got to the beach a little before 3:00 AM and began my search. About 10 minutes later Jon, his wife, and Father in Law came over to where I was searching. I had a couple of faint signals that caused me to dig deep thinking the ring had sunk deep into the soft sand, only to come up empty. Then a couple of passes later I was out in the water about knee deep when I received a good strong signal, dug, rinsed, and there in the bottom of my scoop was Jon’s ring. For the ring to still be knee deep showed that Jon had been much deeper than he originally believed because of today’s 1.3 minus tide. I walked right over to them and presented it to him, to which they were all surprised. So by 3:30 AM Jon had his ring of 10 years back on his finger. He told me he thought it had been gone for good, and that is why we do what we do, to find that which people thought they would never get back, and produce such great smiles. So thankful to make a happy ending to their California vacation, and make their trip back to Texas a pleasurable one!

Lost Gold Engagement Ring – FOUND!!! – Orange Beach, AL

I have to say that today was probably  my favorite return of the year. It had all the elements of a great day. I got the call late in the afternoon so I didn’t have to take off work,  it was a super nice couple, they weren’t sure if it was in the water or the sand, they had dug for it extensively, they had asked a stranger with a metal detector to look in the area and last but not least, there were tons of people around watching that were vested in the return because they had been watching them search all day. When Luke called me saying that Emily had dropped her engagement ring in Orange Beach I knew I had to go and help. They had been throwing a football and when they sat back down Emily’s beautiful gold and diamond engagement ring was nowhere to be found. I got some info from Luke and quickly headed that way from Pensacola. When I got to the condo the security guard told me that there was no guest parking but he would give me one hour before I had to go. I hustled down to the beach and there were still people everywhere. Most of them were closely watching what I did so you could tell that they knew all about the missing ring. Even more than normal I wanted to do my best because I knew I had an audience. After a few questions, I started out on the beach and then headed down the path they had walked to the water. I assumed that it was probably in the water so I then went over a pattern in the breaking waves and moved over the sand drop off in case it had been sucked back into deeper water. When I was coming up the beach, Luke and Emily stopped me and said that they had been discussing it and they thought they were in the very top of the breaking water which would have been higher up the beach earlier in the day. I quickly started swinging up there and was on my second pass when I heard a very faint sound. Throughout the search I had found a few targets that I dug but nothing was a good signal. This time it was a little higher pitched but it was so deep that I was intrigued. I almost ignored it thinking that there was no way it could be that deep with only a half day in the sand. Then I remembered that they had been digging for it so I decided to go ahead and see what was down there. I couldn’t believe it when I saw the gleam of gold in the scoop. Emily and Luke immediately celebrated with me and it was then that I realized just how many people were watching the drama unfold. The whole beach erupted into cheers and applause!  😃. I had to run to the parking lot to convince the security guard not to tow my car and give me a bit longer for pictures but he was very understanding. On the way out the young man and his family who had offered help with their metal detector came running up and told me that their was a lady on the beach who needed my help. When I told them that I had found her ring the young man thought that was the coolest thing in the world. I answered about 100 questions but I’m pretty sure I have hooked him and his father on this hobby for life. I am absolutely thrilled that I could return this beautiful ring to Emily and Luke. Lost Ring – Fort Morgan,AL -FOUND!!!

This is Whitney who was down with her family from Arkansas visiting Fort Morgan when she lost her brand new ring somewhere on the beach or in the Gulf. She was absolutely distraught because she and her husband Justin had been married for 13 years and finally decided to get this beautiful ring for Whitney. In her own words she knew that she shouldn’t wear it to the beach but she was just so proud of it that she couldn’t leave it behind. I always tell people to NOT dig for their rings because especially with gold the density difference makes the ring drop farther and farther into the sand. I also tell people that a cheap detector from Academy does not have the capability of finding a ring on a saltwater beach after an inch or two. Unfortunately, this ring was a prime example of both of these rules.  The night before, Whitney and Justin had driven to Foley and bought a cheap detector and dug all night at false signals making things worse. Luckily for them, my detectors can read much deeper than that and luckily for them I’m a sucker for a good story so I left at the crack of dawn to make the several hour round trip out to see if I could help. When I got there Whitney wasn’t sure if the ring was in the water or not since they had gone over the beach with the Academy detector. I told her I would start on the beach and then if it wasn’t there I would move into the water. I could see all of the disturbed sand where they had been digging so I set my machine and walked to the edge of the area to start my grid pattern. I have to say that I was a little surprised when I swung the coil to the left and before I could even complete the first swing I got a solid loud gold signal. It was a no brainer and I gently dug it out of the ground from 6 inches deep. Whitney hadn’t even walked over to her chair yet so she didn’t see me get the ring. She had mentioned earlier on the phone that they hadn’t had a good day yet because of losing the ring. I walked over and held it out and said “maybe, you can have a great day starting now.”  Needless to say, she was shocked and thrilled. She couldn’t believe that I had found it that quickly in the exact spot they had searched and dug for hours the night before. I’m so glad that I could give you back your ring and finally start your vacation right.

Lost Ring in the Gulf – Orange Beach

This was an awesome return!  My new friends Kathryn and Matt has been down from Ohio enjoying beautiful Orange Beach. Kathryn learned that there are positives when you solder your rings together but the big negative is that if you were to lose one, you lose all three. That’s exactly what happened when she was throwing a ball in about chest deep water and her rings went flying in the Gulf. She found out about me 2 days later and when she called she was very worried that she had waited too long and the rings were lost forever. I told her that I had a really good track record with rings in the water and that as long as it was still there and hadn’t sunk too deep in the sand, I thought I could find it. When I got there, the whole family was in attendance and although Kathryn was trying her best to appear optimistic, I could tell that she was truly worried. I felt for her and Matt and I got in the water on a mission. I heard a couple of higher tones which would not indicate gold but I always like to dig a few things so I can get idea of depth. I got a couple of coins in a row and I realized that I had told Kathryn and Matt that I would probably dig some other things but I had not told the whole family. I saw (maybe the brother-in-law) checking out my coin digging and I thought to myself that I needed to make sure I dug everything very visibly. I was excited when the very next tone I went over sounded like gold. I very gently dug it up and put it on my finger and starting wiggling my fingers so the bro-in-law could see. When he realized I had it by the smile on my face, he yelled to Matt and Matt yelled to Kathryn. They all sprinted down to me and before I was even out of the water Kathryn was in tears and had her arms spread wide open for a hug. When Matt got choked up too I told them I knew how they felt and that’s why I do this. That will never get old. I’m so very happy for y’all!  Congratulations! 💍

Lost Ring at the Blue Angels – Found!

This was a neat return!  Sarah was down from Huntsville, AL enjoying the Blue Angels show with some friends when unfortunately her solid gold University of AL School of Nursing ring slipped off of her finger. To make matters worse, it came off in about 3 feet of water. Luckily for Sarah, a few days later, I was in the area looking for another lost ring and I found it before she even knew about the Ringfinders. I am always telling my wife that if she will put her name in her jewelry, there’s a good chance that if someone like me finds it, they will make their way back home. Sarah helped me illustrate that point because she had her last name and her date of graduation inside the ring. I went into “Facebook Detective mode” 😄and quickly tracked her down. I think she was a little shocked when I sent her a PM that I had found her ring. When I learned that she has recently accepted a position as a nurse in Hematology Oncology in Nashville, I wouldn’t even let her pay for the shipping to get her ring back to her. As you can see by her picture, she was thrilled to get it back. Sarah, I hope God blesses you in your chosen profession and you have your ring for many years to come. 👍

Diamond Wedding Band Lost in the Sand at Hermosa Beach, CA…Found and Joyously Returned.

I received a call earlier today from Devon who was calling for his friend Kari. Kari had been sitting in a beach chair, and decided to apply some sunscreen. She did not want to mess her wedding band with the cream, so she removed it and put it on the chair. She then moved forgetting it was on the chair, and in that process it was gone in the soft sand. She searched where she thought it might have fallen, but was unable to find it, even with the help of friends. Kari’s husband had gotten the ring as a special gift for her, so it had a special sentimentality. I let Devon know that I was on my way and would contact him when I arrived.

When I got to the beach, we were able to find each other after a little communication, When they showed me the area, I knew that if everything played out as they explained to me, the ring was going to be found. They had many things in their favor, but the two most important were that they called right away, and that they had not left the area. I set up after they had moved the beach chairs, adjusted the detector’s sensitivity, and proceeded to search. One swing, nice tone, one scoop, and in the scoop was Kari’s ring. I pulled it out and held it up, when at that point the whole group of people surrounding me burst into cheers, and when I handed it back to Kari, she became very emotional. It took all of about 10 seconds to have the ring back in Kari’s hand. I love to see joy restored!

Lost ring in the sand, Daytona Beach, Fl…..Found and Returned!

Chris, Aurelia and their four young children were at the beach enjoying a beautiful day of swimming and playing in the surf when suddenly Aurelia looked at her hand and her diamond engagement/wedding ring was not on her finger! She could not imagine how her ring had come off and where it could possibly be! She remembered putting suntan lotion on the kids and then she was sitting in her chair by the waters edge and there was also a brief time when she had played with her children in the shallow water. Aurelia was stunned as the impact and realization of what had happened sunk in and she wondered was there anything that could be done to find her ring?!

Two days later they were directed to theringfinders.com website and when Chris called me we decided to try and search the following day at low tide. Upon hearing their story I tried to piece together just what would have caused her ring to come off and everything pointed to the short time she spent in the shallow water playing with her children roughly two hours after low tide.

Monday afternoon I arrived at the beach a good two hours before low tide hoping and praying I was not to late. As I discussed the details with Chris and Aurelia I felt the need to pray and ask God to help me find their ring! With the family gathered around I committed my time and effort to the Lord and then went about doing a grid search in and out of the water. I had set out four pvc poles to make sure I was going in straight lines and still no ring after the first hour. I then headed up to the dry sand where they had placed their tent and towels and again no ring. Next I began grid searching the wet sand in between the water and the dry sand. After three passes I got a perfect signal and -BANG- up pops a man’s tungsten ring! False alarm! Then four rows over I get another perfect signal–only this time I see yellow gold in the hole!! I called Chris over and told him to dig in the center of the small hole I had scooped out with the toe of my scuba boot! I whispered another prayer of thanksgiving as I realize again what an honor and joy it is to help people find their lost treasures! God bless you Chris and Aurelia and your dear little family!

Lost Apple Watch in water, Wekiva Island, Longwood, Fl…..Found and Returned!

Chantal and her younger sister were enjoying a hot summer day by the cool dark waters of the Wekiva River. Wekiva Island is a unique place to swim and relax and spend time getting away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Earlier Chantal had laid out her towel at the waters edge and now as she was getting ready to gather up her belongings, she completely forgot that she had placed her Apple Watch on the edge of her towel and as she lifted her towel….the watch did a nose dive into the dark water and disappeared! Stunned she could not believe what had just happened! It was only 6 feet deep with a sort of sandy bottom mixed with leaves and other decaying debris, so how hard could it be to find it, right? For over an hour she dove and tried her very best to feel around with her feet, hoping to find her lost watch…but all to no avail!

On her phone she informed her friends of her dilemma and then someone sent her a link to theringfinders.com and told her to check it out. After a brief conversation I decided not to wait but to try and help her that very day. Upon arriving at the spot there were three young men sitting in the very location and after hearing Chantal’s story they were more than happy to move, plus they wanted to see the search and recovery themselves.

I decided to practice my diving and holding my breath skills instead of using my scuba gear, thinking that the sandy bottom and maybe four feet of visibility would be sufficient for me to recover her lost watch. Chantal had described her watch as having a metal wrist band and that is what I focused on during my search. The search area was roughly an eight foot square area and right away I could see the usual objects like pull tabs and other man made objects but no shiny metal wrist band. I dove four times thinking surely I would spot it just sitting on the bottom waiting for me to spot and pick up. And then I realized Chantal had been feeling around with her feet and maybe she had pushed it out into deeper water or possibly covered it over with silt and sand and that’s when I spotted something square looking and as I lifted it off the bottom I realized the « mesh » metal band had folded under the face of the watch and it was quite hidden. Chantal was thrilled to have her watch back and I was relieved to not be holding my breath any longer! And Chantal’s beautiful smile warmed my heart and I was truly thankful to have been a part of making her day a pleasant one!

Lost Ring Found Ocean City NJ By John Favano

I was approached by Adriana’s father and he asked if could help find his daughters lost silver claddagh ring. She had taken the ring off and placed it in her backpack and then went to get something out of the bag and the ring fell out. The ring is now back on the finger.

Lost wedding ring in the water, St. Augustine Beach, Fl….Found and Returned!

Jennifer and her family were on vacation in St. Augustine Beach, Florida when the unthinkable happened! Read what Jennifer wrote: « Hi Mike. Again I cannot thank you enough for finding my hubby’s ring! We appreciate your quick response to what was a terrible way to start a vacation! P.S. I had to wait till midnight for low tide and was very thankful for a beautiful full moon that lit up the whole beach. And the waves were up to three and a half feet so I was getting pushed around a good bit and it took three and a half hours but it was all so very worth the effort to see that lost gold wedding ring in my scoop and then to see the tearful joy and relief on Jennifer’s face!
