The recovery that started it all: Lost diamond engagement ring lost in Milpitas, CA…Found!!!

  • from Walnut Creek (California, United States)

I had seen the call for help go out over one of my many metal detecting groups.  When I offered my assistance I didn’t think I’d have the opportunity and thus went about packing for my Mount Diablo overnight with my boys and some friends.

When another md’ing friend asked if I was still available and that another of our piers had searched but had no luck, I again offered my assistance, packed some gear, and off I went.

The client took me to the 5th floor balcony from which the ring was lost and we observed the location from above.  After moving back down to ground level it was revealed that two rings went over the edge and one had been recovered that night from the planter bed.  Now, knowing that a searcher had previously swung over the area, I knew that if we were going to find it, it was going to be found within one of the many plants and bushes in the planter bed.

I offered the client the opportunity to assist by using a Garret pin-pointer to start probing the area including the foliage.  I did the same, and within 20 minutes or so, an ecstatic client exclaimed, « I’ve found it! »  It was indeed within one of the plants of the planter bed.  The stoke was high on both our parts and he requested « Can I give you a hug? » To which I replied « of course. »

The successful search and recovery sparked really good vibes that carried me throughout the weekend. This would serve as my first search as a member of The Ring Finders team and…we made the recovery!!!

DIAMOND WEDDING RING LOST IN HAMMOND, LA-FOUND

  • from Lafayette (Louisiana, United States)
Contact:

We were packed and ready to head to one ring hunt when the client called and said it had been raining. Since the ring had been lost over a year ago and it was in a grassy field, we decided to delay the hunt. After unloading the equipment, we received a call from Nicole. She had lost her ring in the concrete parking lot in front of her apartment and yes it had rained but was clear now. Carrie and I reloaded the equipment (knowing we probably would not be able to use them) and left for Hammond, a 2 hour drive. Arriving we found a distraught Nicole walking over the parking lot, searching as she did the previous day. Having not felt the ring fall from her hand, the whole parking lot was the search area. With detectors useless we started a visual search. Two hours later Carrie let out a victory scream. Rejoining Nicole and her ring was a great end for our efforts.

Lost Engagement Ring In Fairfield, CA…Found!!!!!

  • from Walnut Creek (California, United States)

After receiving a call from an obviously disappointed individual who had lost her engagement ring, I made my way out to Fairfield to conduct a search.

The family had spent numerous hours previously looking for the lost ring with little luck.

When I arrived the individual explained the circumstances and sequences of events that led to the somewhat mysterious disappearance.

I searched a good amount of time and was almost at the point of conceding when…

there it was!!!  We made the recovery!!!

Lost Sanitary Sewer Manhole and Lid Found in Oxford Michigan

A Dirty Job……

….awaits Kevin tomorrow, but first he needed the manhole located so a camera can be used to find the problem.

He examined some old drawings which led him to an approximate area. Looking at the ground it appeared that the manhole was covered over by about 2 feet of soil then topped with sod years ago. I first checked for property markers to help establish the width of the easement. I elected to use my 2-box metal detector thinking the manhole lid was deep. I received no signal on the supposed deep location. Gridding with the metal detector perpendicular to the known sewer line and moving towards the septic field I was about 20 feet from the main line when the 2-box metal detector sounded off. Boxing in the signal and poking my probe bar into the ground we heard a nice hollow metal sound representing the manhole lid. Digging the sod around the circle shape revealed the rusty lid of the manhole just below the sod! Thrilled about finding the manhole but not about the upcoming job, I let Kevin off easy by not having him pull the lid and posing with it for a picture!

Dave MacDonald Excels in Lost Ring Recovery at Hendry’s Beach, Santa Barbara
Last night, Alex called me en route to church, distraught over a lost ring. He’d been at Hendry’s Beach in Santa Barbara with his family, enjoying the calm before a swim in the Pacific. As he dipped his hands in, his ring—a sentimental replica of his father’s wedding band—slipped off and vanished into the ocean floor. Knowing the odds without pro gear, Alex turned to Dave MacDonald Ringfinder at davetheringfinder.com, the expert for lost ring recovery in Santa Barbara.
I acted fast—time’s critical for lost ring recovery. Tides favored a 5:30 am low at Hendry’s Beach, so I arrived by 4:30 am with my top-tier metal detector. I’ve mastered searches from East Beach to Hammonds Beach, and I gridded the area meticulously. Ten minutes in, a strong signal blared near Bates Beach-like depths. With precision, I scooped Alex’s ring from the sand—safe and sound. His gratitude echoed across Loon Point Beach to Leadbetter Beach.

***I received a call from this young man you told me that several days prior to him calling me he was standing in about two feet of water skimming rocks into the water at which time he felt his ring fly off his hand.  He told me the next day he bought a metal detector and tried to find his ring but but did not have any luck at all.  I informed him that if he directed me to the right area where he was in the water when he lost his ring that I believed I had a good chance of finding it even thou it had been a few days.  He was very hesitant because my profile did not show any recoveries. I informed him that I have recovered hundreds of rings but those recoveries were from different States and I could not display them in my Florida TheRingfinders profile. I texted him photos of many of my recoveries and informed him he had nothing to lose by letting me try and find his ring as there was no charge, if found reward only.

After searching for about a little over 1 hour I was thrilled to see the look on his face when  returned his favorite ring.

Lost Titanium Ring Found In The Grass In Perrysburg Ohio

  • from Detroit (Michigan, United States)

Don’t Be Sod, Help Is On The Way…….

….was the last words spoken to Tae as I was heading to see him early this morning. Upon arrival he told me he was attempting to multitask yesterday as warm temperatures and sunny weather inspired him to start his yard cleanup projects. Sometime during the mulching, tree planting and roaming the yard his ring came off. Turning on and go with my MXT metal detector had me grid searching the yard in no time. Scanning over the clean ground in thick grass I got a signal on the MXT meter in the range of where his ring should be. Probing thru the grizzly mass with my small pinpointer metal detector verified the signal….a gorgeous titanium ring with small diamond chips inlayed! Holding it up Tae raced over quickly and was thrilled that his lawnmower didn’t find it first. With the recovery gaining him home turf advantage, he’s back on solid ground with his lawn ‘n’ order!

Lost Lady’s Diamond Engagement Ring – Southern Shores – Outer Banks, NC – Found

  • from New Smyrna Beach (Florida, United States)

Tyler texted me around 9:30pm on Saturday.   His message was, « my fiancé is in the Outer Banks and lost her engagement ring today.  Would you possibly be able to help? »  I answered, « possibly, please have her give me a call. »  He said that she probably would not call until tomorrow.  I explained that in OBX, tides and weather move things around so the sooner the better.

Joanna called a short time later.  She explained that she was in the water at close to high tide and a wave hit her, knocking her over, and the ring was gone.  I met Joanna at the rental the next day and we walked to the beach.  I explained that in the Outer Banks wave action and energy is tremendous so the chance that I find it after two high tides is rather remote.  She understood.  Joanna went back to the rental to pack-up since they had to leave early.

As is my custom, I prayed.  Then, I began the search.  I fired up the XP Deus II and started where she said they put their items down.  I continued to the waterline and the surf was rougher than I expected.   I decided to go as deep as I could at the exact spot she thought she lost her ring.

I got an immediate hit.  It was a 41.  Could it be?  Fighting the waves I dug the first scoop and a second.  Nothing.   A big wave crashed around me.  I took a third scoop and the signal disappeared.   I had whatever it was.  As I spread the sand over the beach a beautiful diamond glistened in the sand!

I texted Joanna that I needed her to come back to the beach because I had questions about exactly where it was lost.  She said that she would as soon as they finish packing.  I hooked the ring to a clip for safety and waited.  When she appeared I asked her to describe again how she lost it and where while I videoed her.  When she finished I unclipped the ring and said, « Does it look like this? »  TEARs of Joy.  As we walked back to the rental house Joanna’s friends came out and shared in the celebration.

Grandfather’s lost ring found

I had a call the other day from a young man who lost his grandfather’s ring while throwing a ball about in his garden. It was definitely around as he heard it bounce as it landed.  The question was which garden had it landed in? It was either their garden or nextdoor. After a thorough search in their garden including a pile of grass clippings that had unfortunately been contaminated with a few dog « lumps »….(the owner very kindly removed them), I decided to search nextdoor, with the permission of the owner of course. This garden was a complete contrast to the very tidy garden I had just searched. It was very overgrown, there was old furniture, broken jars and pots all over the place, and generally a disaster of a garden. This made it quite difficult to search, even with a 5 inch coil. It was time to use my pinpointer. After about half an hour or so I hit my target, a slightly deformed and worn signet ring. Another great recovery for a family to be reunited with grandfather’s ring.
