Why rent a metal detector when you can hire a metal detecting specialist, most people buy or rent and metal detector to find their lost ring. When they do not find it, out of desperation they call me for help. When I find it they ask me why did you find it and we couldn’t? I have close to 50 years experience in metal detecting, the equipment is only as good as the person using it. If you’ve never used a Metal Detector it’s not as easy as one would think, there’s a lot more to it than just swing the loop.
This ring was lost under a patio in loose rocks and leaves, the young man went under there for a little while but cannot find it. When I got there I search the outside edges of the patio and then I took my search under the patio. After a short time I got a signal my hand held pin pointer and found his ring under some rocks and leaves. It’s amazing how these rings disappear from sight and find a hiding place where people can’t see it.

I have the best job in the world, I love helping people more than anything I’ve ever done in my lifetime. I get to make people smile, I get to hear their stories of what their ring means to them, and how happy they are when I find it.
Nina called me. Her daughter wore her wedding ring to school. During P.E. she played some frisbee and realized at the end of class that the ring was gone. The teacher was awesome and organized a hunt for it in each of his classes. The ring was never found.
That’s when they called me. Mom showed me around but it wasn’t until Sophia showed up and explained what happened that I was put in the right area. Not long after, it was found inside the area that she outlined. It is back where it belongs.
How many times have you put something in your pocket only to find later that it was no longer there? It happens all the time and my last call was from a young, newly married man who had this very thing happen to him. He explained how he had his 4 day old wedding ring on his finger and as he was walking down to the dock to do a little fishing he thought how terrible it would be to lose his ring while casting out over the water and he did not want that to happen. So he took off his ring and slipped it into his pocket along with his cell phone. Now that his ring was safely tucked away he walked out to the end of the dock and began to fish. It wasn’t long before someone gave him a call and he reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone to answer. And the unthinkable happened as he heard his 4 day old, white gold wedding ring hit the dock and then the unmistakable sound of it dropping into the water below. Stunned and shocked he could not believe it! How could this happen and why and how was he going to tell his wife and how could he ever retrieve it? All these questions flooded into his mind and then…a thought came to him…from God, I believe. « Metal Detector! » So he typed that into his phone and theringfinders.com web site came up. He could hardly believe that there was, and is, a service that offers hope and help to people who find themselves in desperate need to find something that has been lost!
I met Julian the next morning and he showed me where he dropped his ring. He said the water was only a few feet deep but I usually take a pole with markers on it to indicate the water depth…and it showed a little over 7 feet deep. (I am learning to take all my equipment on these types of searches as I would rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it!). As we loaded my gear and walked onto the dock we spotted a large southern water snake…that looks allot like our cottonmouth or water moccasin and I assured Julian that he was just sunning himself and looking for smaller prey and I had nothing to be afraid of. I set up my ladder and tied it off to the dock and laid my scuba tank with the valve hanging over the edge. I attached my octo/regs, put on my weight belt and mask, grabbed my hand held Scuba Tector with the 6 inch coil and slowly descended into the cool murky waters. Visibility was only 10 to 12 inches so I carefully made my way to the corner piling of the dock sweeping the small detector as I went along. Targets were numerous and being as Julian had just dropped his ring the day before I figured to be looking for a surface target. The silt was minimal and I found it fairly easy going as I settled into a routine. Sweep the detector, hear a signal, feel through the top 2 inches of silt and sand and then onto the next target. It took 15 minutes of searching to find that unmistakeable feel of a large mans ring and then I slowly made my way to the surface. As I lifted my hand out of the water to show Julian his ring I could see the relief and joy on his face as he lifted his hands towards heaven and said thank you over and over again!

Wendy posted on her local Whangarei community group asking for a metal detector or help to locate her wedding ring, someone suggested that she contact me.
She had noticed it missing one evening, however she had a fairly good idea of where it may have been lost. Walking her dog that day, the wayward beastie had snatched the lead out of her hand – Or it might have been when she was putting up some garden fencing….?
We headed to where the dog had pulled the lead out of her hand first, as it was in a public area so highest risk of being picked up – As soon as we arrived, I could tell it was probably not there due to a highly manicured lawn, surrounded by pavement and asphalt. It would have been easily seen, or heard if it bounced off the hard surfaces. The lawn had been mown since the loss, so for good measure I checked the pile of clippings – Nothing.
Plan B, head for the garden.
I switched coils on the machine to the tiny 6″ unit in order to get in and around all the undergrowth and started systematically working my way around the garden.
About 3/4 of the way around, tucked just under the fence and under a layer of mulch was Wendys ring, invisible to the eye, and in that location probably unlikely to have been disturbed for many years – if ever.
I received a call from a lady in Miami who was anxious about finding someone to help her daughter find a lost ring. The mom went on to explain that her daughter lost her diamond engagement ring in the thick grass and was at the local Walmart looking to buy a cheap metal detector. Somehow the concerned mother had found theringfinders.com website and assured her daughter that there was hope of finding her lost diamond ring. A few minutes later I called Brittany and got a few more details about what happened and I assured her that I would pack up my equipment and come ASAP!
An hour later I pulled up in front of her house and could see Brittany walking thru the yard looking for her ring. It had just been raining quite hard and Brittany was afraid that her ring would wash down the ditch and disappear into the storm drain under the driveway. I tried to reassure her that rings dropped in grassy areas very seldom get moved around by rain and being as they are mostly made of gold, which is heavy, plus the opening in the center of the ring and too if there is a diamond sticking out the side….all these variables cause the ring to hang up and they just want to go down deeper into the grass. Brittany also felt very embarrassed about exactly how the ring ended up in the yard and again I assured her it happens all the time and the main objective now was to try and locate her lost ring and get it back on her finger where it has been for the last 8 years!
For these kinds of searches I carry a few inexpensive rings with a small piece of surveyors tape tied to it that I use for a test throw to help me mark the approximate location of where the actual ring may have landed. I encouraged Brittany to remember how she felt and to do exactly what she did the day before. Bless her heart–she even asked me to turn around and not to watch as she went into action. The test ring laded out in the yard some 40 to 45 feet away and I promptly set up my 4 small flags around the spot where the test ring landed and began my grid search. And sure enough not 8 feet away from the test ring I got a reading of 46 on my ATMax metal detector and it showed two inches deep. I pulled my pin pointer out to help locate the object and there it was…a beautiful white gold diamond ring…just waiting to be found! Brittany was so, so happy and I was almost as excited to be the one to find it for her.

Sarah lost three silver rings in Horseshoe Lake during a kayaking adventure and small swim. She was devastated over the loss of her rings and shared this situation with one of her good friends. All though they were not expensive they represented a wedding engagement ring set and had high sentimental value and meant the world to her. Her friend reassured her and told her about my services as I had done a search in the same lake previously for her last summer.
Based on her friends recommendation Sarah called me and shared her story asking if I thought there was any chance or possibility I could help. About two weeks after the loss of her rings we met up on a perfect sunny day. We came prepared with our kayaks because the route to the suspected drop zone was about one mile from the launch and inaccessible by foot.Full of optimism, gear, experience and ambition we took off in our boats on an adventure to find a little cove she stopped at to take a small cool off swim on the day of the loss. The rings had been tucked into her top and as she adjusted her clothing the rings fell into the lake unnoticed. She went on a small swim out and back then kayaked back to the launch site. Just before they got out of the lake it became apparent what had happened. Her rings were missing! They raced back to the cove, looked through the water but to no avail could not find any of the rings due the silty lake bottom. In the process of searching that day her cell phone fell into the lake but she was able to reach down and easily retrieve her phone.

Received a text that Logan had lost his wedding band while preparing his garden for the season. He lost it a few weeks before finding the The ringfinder service online. He told me he was delaying anymore work on the garden until I could search for his ring. We had to wait another week before our schedules aligned to search. He showed me the general area he lost it while throwing rocks from the garden. While he went to the house to get something, I began searching and found the ring in under five minutes. As he came back outside, I was approaching the house and handed him his ring. He was so excited that he found theringfinders.com and that I could return his ring. He is now completing his garden for the season.
What an awesome ring recovery!Bailey reached out to me this weekend and told me that he had dropped his wedding band as they were tying up their boat at his Grandfather’s home. It sounded pretty straightforward but we decided to wait until a bit later so the water could come down and the depth would be a bit shallower. I finally made it out to their home in Saraland, AL and as I walked down to the boat slip I got to meet some of the family. He pointed to where he lost the ring and I decided to put on my drysuit since this water was cold and we thought it was going to be about 5 ft deep. As soon as my feet hit the bottom I realized this was going to be tough. I was on my tiptoes and even though I am 6’3”, the water was up to my chin. It was a small area though so my hopes were high. The first two signals I got could have been gold rings but they also sounded like pull tabs off a Coke can. When the pull tabs came up we thought we had found the culprit as Bailey’s Grandfather stood holding a soda can with no pull tab. We all had a big laugh when his Grandad cracked a huge smile and explained that he never threw his in the water. 😃. The next signal I got was a high tone but I’ve learned over the years that a large men’s ring can sometimes sound high pitched. This one was a bit deeper so I just held my breath and went under for a few scoops. I came up with lots of mud and leaves in my scoop and started to try to sift out the debris. We all heard a little clink of metal so I decided to hand the scoop up to Bailey so that he could dump it out on the boat dock and sort through it. He didn’t even have to say a word, as soon as he saw the ring his smile lit up so much that I knew he had it. Before I was even out of the water, Bailey and his Grandfather were telling me the rest of the story. Bailey just got married this past October. The ring was actually three rings put together by the jeweler. One ring belonged to the Grandfather I was talking to, one ring belonged to Bailey’s Grandfather who had passed away and one ring belonged to Bailey’s Great Grandfather who had passed on as well. With Bailey wearing this ring to honor these men in his marriage, that would make 3 generations of rings at stake. Now you can see why this ring is priceless. Bailey I’m so glad you trusted me to help you recover such an amazing part of your family’s history. I hope the future for you is just as fantastic. God Bless!
So I got a call for a lost wedding ring. The gentleman was weeding his raised bed gardens in the fall to prepare them for replanting. At the end of the day, after discovering the missing ring he figured that on one of the many trips to throw the handfuls of weeds into the woods, his wedding ring joined them on the flight. He proceeded to search the many weed piles on the forest floor, with no luck. He even borrowed a metal detector, which made lots of noise and gave him exercise but no wedding ring. He then found me online and called and we arranged a time to meet/search. I arrived, got the whole story and saw the search areas. I then laid out and started my search, with the highest likely areas of loss first. After searching all the gardens, weed throw areas, paths to and from, and possible areas of other outdoor chores and coming up empty, it was time to expand the search area. After a 1/2 hr and 8ft outside te original search area, I heard the tone that I was looking for, and after moving some grass aside there was a lovely circle of gold looking back at me. I pulled a surprise reveal by asking him to see his wife’s matching ring to remind me what I was looking for, and when he showed it to me I said « You’re right it does look exactly like yours », and placed his ring beside her ring in my hand. A confused look came over him followed by a wave of realization and his eyes welled up and as he started thanking me. That reaction was all the thanks I needed.
