Eric and his son were relaxing in their pool and decided to hit a volleyball back and forth to each other. Eric’s heavy platinum wedding ring was a little loose on his finger but he figured he would be just fine. As they finished up Eric noticed his hand felt different and looking down he realized his wedding ring was gone! He thought more than likely it fell off into the pool so they proceeded to search the pool bottom but NO RING! Next was the thick grassy area alongside the pool and they looked that area over a few times, even trying to use an app that one can access on your phone, but NO RING! By this time it was getting later on into the evening and his next thought was to buy or rent a metal detector and then figure out how to set it up and decipher the sounds that it emits. Having shared his situation with his family it was his mother who found theringfinders.com web site and sent Eric my number.

I showed up early to search for Eric’s lost wedding ring and as I looked the search area over I hoped and prayed his ring did not land in the canal as it looked like prime snake and alligator habitat. I began with the thick grassy area and after 10 minutes or so it was obvious it had not landed there. I moved to a concrete planter that ran the length of the yard and came up empty there as well. Next was a small grassy strip on the back side of the planter that I needed to go over before going into the murky waters of the canal. About half way along the small strip I got a sharp signal, loud and promising, and there was Eric’s lost wedding ring laying in the grass! Eric was stunned and could not imagine how it landed there but as we looked it over it was quite obvious that it had flown through the flowers and landed softly on the other side of the planter.

Ring lost at Mission Bay found

Brendan and his family were visiting here in San Diego. On their last night here, they had a bonfire on the beach. While opening a plastic bag, it popped loose suddenly, and Brendan’s wedding ring went flying into the dry sand and disappeared. Not knowing exactly where, or, even which direction it went, it was impossible to find without a metal detector. An online search for help resulted, and I got a call the next morning. As luck would have it, I was only a couple of blocks away presiding over our local detecting club monthly meeting. Brendan explained the situation and that they were leaving town in the early afternoon, so, time was fairly important in getting his ring back before they headed to the airport. The meeting soon ended and I headed over to conduct the search. We met at the site and Brendan gave me a good idea as to where ground zero was. I started a spiral pattern out from that point. First « good » sounding target ended up being a pull tab. Second good sounding target read the same, and was Brendan’s ring. A relieved Brendan can now head home with his wedding band on his finger. How many times have you put something in your pocket only to find later that it was no longer there? It happens all the time and my last call was from a young, newly married man who had this very thing happen to him. He explained how he had his 4 day old wedding ring on his finger and as he was walking down to the dock to do a little fishing he thought how terrible it would be to lose his ring while casting out over the water and he did not want that to happen. So he took off his ring and slipped it into his pocket along with his cell phone. Now that his ring was safely tucked away he walked out to the end of the dock and began to fish. It wasn’t long before someone gave him a call and he reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone to answer. And the unthinkable happened as he heard his 4 day old, white gold wedding ring hit the dock and then the unmistakable sound of it dropping into the water below. Stunned and shocked he could not believe it! How could this happen and why and how was he going to tell his wife and how could he ever retrieve it? All these questions flooded into his mind and then…a thought came to him…from God, I believe. « Metal Detector! » So he typed that into his phone and theringfinders.com web site came up. He could hardly believe that there was, and is, a service that offers hope and help to people who find themselves in desperate need to find something that has been lost!

I met Julian the next morning and he showed me where he dropped his ring. He said the water was only a few feet deep but I usually take a pole with markers on it to indicate the water depth…and it showed a little over 7 feet deep. (I am learning to take all my equipment on these types of searches as I would rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it!). As we loaded my gear and walked onto the dock we spotted a large southern water snake…that looks allot like our cottonmouth or water moccasin and I assured Julian that he was just sunning himself and looking for smaller prey and I had nothing to be afraid of. I set up my ladder and tied it off to the dock and laid my scuba tank with the valve hanging over the edge. I attached my octo/regs, put on my weight belt and mask, grabbed my hand held Scuba Tector with the 6 inch coil and slowly descended into the cool murky waters. Visibility was only 10 to 12 inches so I carefully made my way to the corner piling of the dock sweeping the small detector as I went along. Targets were numerous and being as Julian had just dropped his ring the day before I figured to be looking for a surface target. The silt was minimal and I found it fairly easy going as I settled into a routine. Sweep the detector, hear a signal, feel through the top 2 inches of silt and sand and then onto the next target. It took 15 minutes of searching to find that unmistakeable feel of a large mans ring and then I slowly made my way to the surface. As I lifted my hand out of the water to show Julian his ring I could see the relief and joy on his face as he lifted his hands towards heaven and said thank you over and over again!

Wedding Ring Lost in Whangarei Garden – Found.

Wendy posted on her local Whangarei community group asking for a metal detector or help to locate her wedding ring, someone suggested that she contact me.

She had noticed it missing one evening, however she had a fairly good idea of where it may have been lost. Walking her dog that day, the wayward beastie had snatched the lead out of her hand – Or it might have been when she was putting up some garden fencing….?
We headed to where the dog had pulled the lead out of her hand first, as it was in a public area so highest risk of being picked up – As soon as we arrived, I could tell it was probably not there due to a highly manicured lawn, surrounded by pavement and asphalt. It would have been easily seen, or heard if it bounced off the hard surfaces. The lawn had been mown since the loss, so for good measure I checked the pile of clippings – Nothing.
Plan B, head for the garden.
I switched coils on the machine to the tiny 6″ unit in order to get in and around all the undergrowth and started systematically working my way around the garden.
About 3/4 of the way around, tucked just under the fence and under a layer of mulch was Wendys ring, invisible to the eye, and in that location probably unlikely to have been disturbed for many years – if ever.

FOUND Platinum Band Hiding in the Grass in Riverside, CA

Did you just lose a piece of jewelry and you know approximately where it was lost? Get a hold of me right away: Ron 951-415-6007! I received a text message from Chris who said he lost his platinum band somewhere in his back yard last night. After an argument, he threw his and his partner’s rings across the back yard. They found his partner’s, but not his. They went out and bought an inexpensive metal detector, but realized it was more complicated than they expected. So he found me on TheRingfinders.com and asked if I could help. I was there within the hour.

When I arrived I had him show me where he was standing when he threw the rings. I then got my « test » ring, a man’s band that is attached to a long length of string, and had Chris throw it like he did last night. After about fifteen minutes of searching the area where the « test » ring landed, which was also the area the other ring was found, I was coming up empty. So I backtracked to where Chris had been standing when he threw them and started my search again. Maybe ten seconds in and BAM, there it was, laying in the grass, maybe a foot away from where he had been. Chris was much relieved and very thankful.

It is such a good feeling to see that expression of relief on their faces when you’re able to find that item…that’s what it’s all about. Don’t wait! Call me!

Lost diamond ring in yard, Ormond Beach, Florida…Found!

I received a call from a lady in Miami who was anxious about finding someone to help her daughter find a lost ring. The mom went on to explain that her daughter lost her diamond engagement ring in the thick grass and was at the local Walmart looking to buy a cheap metal detector. Somehow the concerned mother had found theringfinders.com website and assured her daughter that there was hope of finding her lost diamond ring. A few minutes later I called Brittany and got a few more details about what happened and I assured her that I would pack up my equipment and come ASAP!

An hour later I pulled up in front of her house and could see Brittany walking thru the yard looking for her ring. It had just been raining quite hard and Brittany was afraid that her ring would wash down the ditch and disappear into the storm drain under the driveway. I tried to reassure her that rings dropped in grassy areas very seldom get moved around by rain and being as they are mostly made of gold, which is heavy, plus the opening in the center of the ring and too if there is a diamond sticking out the side….all these variables cause the ring to hang up and they just want to go down deeper into the grass. Brittany also felt very embarrassed about exactly how the ring ended up in the yard and again I assured her it happens all the time and the main objective now was to try and locate her lost ring and get it back on her finger where it has been for the last 8 years!

For these kinds of searches I carry a few inexpensive rings with a small piece of surveyors tape tied to it that I use for a test throw to help me mark the approximate location of where the actual ring may have landed. I encouraged Brittany to remember how she felt and to do exactly what she did the day before. Bless her heart–she even asked me to turn around and not to watch as she went into action. The test ring laded out in the yard some 40 to 45 feet away and I promptly set up my 4 small flags around the spot where the test ring landed and began my grid search. And sure enough not 8 feet away from the test ring I got a reading of 46 on my ATMax metal detector and it showed two inches deep. I pulled my pin pointer out to help locate the object and there it was…a beautiful white gold diamond ring…just waiting to be found! Brittany was so, so happy and I was almost as excited to be the one to find it for her.

Lost ring in the grass, Maitland, Fl….Found and returned to owner!

Jacob and his girlfriend were at a church event when it came time to step out on the grass behind the church and have a free-for-all with a large tub of water balloons. And after it was all said and done Jacob looked down and realized his special class ring was gone and he could not believe it had come off of his finger without him realizing it! He and a few friends immediately started looking thru the grass hoping to spot his large gold ring. With only a few weeks left of school–his senior year at that—he could not imagine graduating without his ring. Part of his class ring has symbols that commemorate his dear grandfather so it held allot of sentimental value to Jacob and his family.

Jacob’s mother came to the rescue by typing « Metal detector rental Orlando, Florida » on her phone and theringfinders.com web site came up. After talking to Jacob and making arrangements to meet later in the day I packed up my van and headed towards Orlando. As I drive I try to imagine what sort of search is ahead for me. I always let my family and my elderly parents (Father is 89 and my mother is 88) know that I am heading out on a search and I ask them to pray for me, that God would help me be a blessing and that He would lead me to find whatever it is that has been lost.

Later that afternoon I met Jacob and he showed me the area where they were all running around and throwing balloons. He mentioned he was throwing mostly toward the road so I set out my 4 corner flags and began my tight grid search. It took 20 minutes or so to cover the main area and I began thinking about how and where he would have been throwing and I told Jacob to walk side by side with me as we searched with our eyes the short, trashy area on the other side of the road. I explained that his ring very easily could have gone quite a distance past the small grass area and I pointed to the chainlink fence along the railroad tracks and said, « Look that area over as well, because there is a good chance it went thru the fence ». So Jacob began walking the fence line and I returned to swinging my detector. Within minutes I heard Jacob holler, « There it is!! » And low and behold his ring was sitting on the rocky gravel area a few feet behind the fence. We borrowed a ladder from the good people at the church and I went over the fence to retrieve his ring! Jacob was so relieved to have his ring back and I was thrilled for him as well!

Wedding ring lost DURING CEREMONY, Stone Harbor, NJ Recovered!!

Well it goes without saying that you never know what kind of events may lead up to a ring getting lost. This story is no exception. On May 8th I was contacted by the best man of a wedding party. He explained that during the couples ceremony, at a bayside resort, he had accidentally dropped the brides ring onto the deck and it slipped thru the cracks and into the bay! At the time he had called I was headed out to dinner with my family for Mother’s Day and it was just about high tide. After receiving some pictures and descriptions of the area I knew this could be very challenging as the search area was located under a deck / pier that extended over the bulkhead and into the bay. I figured it would be best to wait until dead low tide as the area was in about 12-15’ of water at the moment. Around 12:30am I headed over with a friend whom was lending a hand and met up with the remaining members and guests of the wedding party. Luckily the staff at “The Reeds” in Stone Harbor NJ were awesome at helping to pinpoint the area and provide a floating dock to work from, kind of like Tom Sawyers raft, lol. They even went so far as to remove some of the mahogany decking in an attempt to locate the ring. Obviously the wedding party was devastated over this accident and all reasonable attempts were made to find the dropped ring. You could feel the obvious tension surrounding the events that unfolded and this just drove the determination to a positive outcome further! After making our way down to the dock we boarded the floating dock and paddled under the deck / pier to the approximate area. After checking for about 15-20 minutes I was able to recover the brand new never worn rose gold and diamond band!! Much to my and everyone’s relief! The ring was under some of the structural members in about 2’ of water amongst some horseshoe crabs. The bride, groom, best man and remaining members of the wedding party were ecstatic!! Another happy couple! Congratulations and here’s to a lifetime of happiness!!

I was relaxing Saturday morning after a couple of unsuccessful searches the previous two days including a wedding band in a sewer line trench and an old septic tank cap on a wooded lot. My wife showed me a story from the local Dunedin Discussions Facebook group where a member named Debbie posted about her daughter losing a silver ring on the Dunedin Causeway beach the previous day. I also received a pm from another member of the group letting me know about the loss. I immediately posted and sent a pm to Debbie informing her of my services. Because Debbie had given a somewhat detailed description of the loss location on her post, I decided to drive immediately to the location to begin a search before other metal detectorists might scan the area. Not long after I began my search, I received a map pin of the precise location as well as a perspective photo of several family members metal detecting the loss area the previous evening. I worked my way to the given location and searched for a couple of hours. I knew I was searching in the right location as it was confirmed by Donald Murphy (“Murph”, pictured below) as he had seen the family searching the previous evening and he was back at this same spot the next day. I was able to dig a dozen quarters and a half dozen dimes but no silver ring. I went home for a break and returned several hours later at low tide. By that time, the receding tide exposed some tire tracks where Murph said the family was searching the day before. After about an hour, my Equinox registered a strong silver signal (29) at 2 to 4 inches and I dug the silver Gucci ring out of the wet sand with my scoop. I showed it to Murph and he was as excited as the owner was going to be. After I contacted Debbie with the good news, I met her daughter Opal and boyfriend James to make the return. Opal said she lost it while throwing a ball and it was a special ring given to her by her brother. Thanks to all for trusting me to look for your precious ring and thank you for the generous reward!
