Patrick lost his iPhone on the beach the night before in Avalon, NJ. He and his friends went swimming and Patrick placed his phone down somewhere in the sand. When he returned from the ocean, he could not find the phone. He called his mom who was at a party in Chester County and someone mentioned to give me a call. I spoke to her and met Patrick and his friends on the beach shortly after.

Some of his friends thought it was just like the show Outer Banks. We were going to look for the Royal Merchant gold treasure. The boys sat and watched for about 45 minutes while I scanned the beach with the metal detector. The iPhone was found after a great signal! The treasure was returned.

Jeff started his morning early in Avalon, NJ with plans to go surfing. He placed his key fob in his towel on the beach before heading out for some waves. While out in the water, the beach rake accidentally moved his towel and also took his key fob with it.  He and his wife, Kristen, searched for a few hours with no luck, so they called me to help find it. I met them around 30 minutes later and gathered some information. Jeff explained where he placed the towel, so I started the search in the immediate area. I started with a 50-feet radius that didn’t produce any targets.  I then went to the dump pile of sand, but it wasn’t there either. The next step was to expand the search area.  I got a great signal approximately 175-feet away from where he placed the towel. It was the BMW key fob! The couple was relieved and was able to enjoy the rest of Memorial Day.

Lost Engagement Ring On The Beach In Ocean City Maryland Found

  • from Lewes (Delaware, United States)
Contact:

Michael contacted me regarding his wifes engagement ring that had been lost on the beach in Ocean City, Maryland. Michaels wife gave him her rings so that he could place them in their bag for safe keeping while enjoying their day at the beach. The engagement ring did not make it into the bag and was lost in the sand. I met Michael at the beach and he showed me the area that he and his family had been sitting on the beach at the time that the ring was lost. Michael sat down on the sand and watched as I began to search the beach with my metal detector for the lost ring. I was able to locate the lost ring after a few short minutes and as I recovered it from the sand, Michael said « And it was just that easy ». The ring was returned to Michael so that he could return it to his wife.

La Jolla lost ring mystery solved.

  • from La Jolla (California, United States)

Edith is a repeat customer. I had found one of her rings about 5 years ago that had been accidentally lost in her back yard, so, she knew who to call when she needed help again. This time, she had misplaced 6 rings! She didn’t remember having specifically removed the rings at any point, except maybe removing one of them while wringing out a wet vest. She wore two rings on one hand and the other four on the other, so I figured she had probably taken them all off at one time rather than losing them one at a time. Edith is in the middle of a move from her large wonderful home to a downsized apartment a few blocks away. As many of us know, moving is a royal pain, and with some of her items going to the new place, some going to charity, some to be sold, some just being thrown away, along with dealing with realtors, etc, you get pulled in many directions at once. It’s easy to get sidetracked and forget your exact movements and tasks. Some of the trash had already been taken away, so, there was always the possibility that the rings went with it. The job I was faced with was looking through scores of boxes, bags, and her vehicle to see if the rings could be found. I brought my wife along with this hunt, as, it was going to be more visual than detectable. I also brought my endoscope kit for checking all the nooks and crannies of her car. We first eliminated her house where the donation boxes were and some of the items to be taken to the new place. Nada. We then headed to the new place where we first searched the master bed room with all it’s boxes, and the master bath next to it. I did run across a couple of rings in one suitcase, but, they were the ones that had belonged to her husband who had passed away a few months ago. She was happy/sad/emotional in seeing those, as they matched two of hers that we were still searching for. While my wife finished going through the last of the wardrobe boxes, I went down and searched the car. Still nada. Back upstairs in the apartment, I stood in the entryway trying to decide what to do next, if anything, as I was running out of options and came to realize that they just might not be here, or, that they were in some very unlikely spot that might not be found for months, or, at least until all the boxes and bags had been unpacked and emptied. Maybe not even then if the rings had been accidentally tossed out in the trash. We had been there more than 3 hours and had searched virtually all the likely areas that Edith had accessed during the time between Saturday afternoon when she knew she had the rings, and Sunday morning when they were discovered missing. Time to call it? Well, I turned around to assess the remaining boxes in the entry and living room when I spotted another box down the hall and sitting in another room….another bathroom that I didn’t know was even there. I went into the 2nd bath and looked through a box on the counter direcly to the right. Nothing there, so, I turned to look in the rest of the room. There, sitting in plain sight on top of the far side of the sink were all 6 rings! The photo shows where they were found, but, they were more bunched together and sitting just left of the shell when I spotted them. Edith would have found them eventually, but, she was so happy and relieved that they were found now and that the symbols of her love with her husband Jim hadn’t been thrown away.  A pleasure to help you once again Edith, and thank you for the generous reward.

Ring lost at Mission Beach found

  • from La Jolla (California, United States)

Ethan was visiting here from out of town and lost his ring in the dry sand at Mission Beach on a Saturday afternoon. I got the call Monday afternoon along with the details. Since Ethan had already returned home, I had to work from a map and description of the search area along with a photo and metal makeup of the ring itself. With two days having gone by on a busy summer weekend, there was always the chance that someone else had already found the ring, either by eyeball or by one of the many detectorists that search that beach. Time was not on our side, but, you never know until you try. I arrived a bit later that afternoon and tried to find the spot shown on the map and a photo of a damaged wall in the area that Ethan included. Well, it turns out the photo was a stock online one and not an actual one taken by Ethan at the time. Since I couldn’t find that section of damaged seawall (repaired since the photo was taken), I talked to Ethan on the phone and between the two of us, we were able to find the exact spot. I began my grid search and after several long passes without a single signal (not a good sign), I got a nice 53 displayed on my Equinox 900. Sure enough, it was Ethan’s ring. Some happy phone calls and arrangements made for a certified package to be sent to Ethan, which arrived today. Thank you for the reward.

White Gold Wedding/Engagement Band Set-Found!

  • from Chattanooga (Tennessee, United States)

Ryan contacted me several weeks ago about his wife’s white gold wedding/engagement band set she had lost in a grassy area of the apartments where they lived in Chattanooga.  Because of his busy work schedule he had a difficult time getting the search arranged.  I think he had actually purchased an off-the-shelf metal detector at a local store, but was apparently overwhelmed with the large amounts of metallic trash in the ground.  We finally managed to arrange a search on June 9th.  I arrived at the location at 7:15 PM on June 9th.  I started my search as soon as I got the story from him, because we didn’t have much daylight left.  Around 35 minutes later I found the engagement band portion totally hidden below the grass around four feet from the base of a large tree.  It took me right at an hour more to find the wedding band portion, and it was about twenty feet from where I found the other half.  It ended up being in an area outside of the original search zone.  The grass had been cut, so maybe that’s how it ended up being over there.  This portion of the ring was in full view of anyone walikg by, so it’s amazing nobody had seen it.

I had the opportunity to be part of an extremely special and exciting recovery this past weekend in Wildwood, NJ. Holden and Carley are high school sweethearts from the Hershey, PA area who were in town helping with their local color guard who competed at the Tournament of Bands Indoor Championship at the Wildwoods Convention Center. Carley enjoys looking for seashells, so Holden’s plan was to propose to her on the beach the night before they were leaving to go home.

Holden put the engagement ring in his shirt pocket before they left for the beach, so he could pull it out easily when it was time to propose. They were out on the beach for a while collecting shells, but when it was time to take the ring out of his pocket, he realized it wasn’t there. He figured it fell out while bending over to pick up a shell and thought it was lost forever. His mother Christi’s friend suggested they give me a call to help find the ring, so she texted me a little after 10 PM on Saturday night. We met at the entrance to the beach a few minutes after I responded to their text, and he gave me more information about the sequence of events from earlier that day and landmarks he remembered.

The search area was quite large, and it was close to 11 PM before I got started. It was dark, chilly and windy on the beach that night, but we were determined to find the ring. After gridding for roughly 25 minutes, I stopped to ask Holden a few more questions which quickly led me to where the ring was buried. A few swings with the metal detector in a more precise area, and the ring was found!
The events that unfolded next were truly awesome to watch. Holden went back to meet Carley and was able to propose with the engagement ring. It is a memory that will not be forgotten.

Gold Wedding Band Lost From Emerald Isle Beach House Deck Found By Crystal Coast Ring Finders

  • from Emerald Isle (North Carolina, United States)

David informed me he was on the raised deck putting on his sandals and noticed a sound like something dropped.  A very short time afterwards, he noticed his wedding band of 5 years was missing.  David and others searched sand below the deck but were unsuccessful in their attempt.  Andy who was in the group started an online search for a nearby metal detector to rent and found The Ring Finders.  Andy called me and I headed their way.  I arrived within an hour of the call and after gathering information and explaining my Minelab CTX-3030, I headed down the sandy area next to the home.  The ground was littered with various signals and even though I had my sensitivity turned way down, I was getting numerous target signals.  I guessed the approximate area the ring would have landed and turned on my Garrett Pro-Pointer AT for a more precise search of each item.  The very first item I pulled up from sand was David’s sparkling gold wedding ring

150th Ring Return on Cape Cod – Found on Chatham Lighthouse Beach

  • from Cape Cod (Massachusetts, United States)

June 2, 2023

Emmie was enjoying her second day vacationing on beautiful Cape Cod. The sun was bright, the wind was light, and the temperature just right for a perfect day on the beach. Wanting to keep her wedding band clean and safe while she applied sunscreen protection she removed the ring and placed it in her pant’s pocket. She removed the pants and placed them into the safety of a beach wagon while she sun bathed. When it came time to put the pants back on…the ring was not in the secure pocket or wagon.

A call to J&E Enterprise to rent a detector was placed. Eleanor of J&E advised Emmie it would be better to have an experienced detectorist do the search and gave Emmie my phone number. Within the hour I was on the beach and in a search mode. I detected the area parallel to the water and then perpendicular with not a signal from the ring. I then searched in a diagonal pattern. Again, no signal. Another diagonal perpendicular to the first was about 50% complete when I heard an iffy signal. A signal, the result caused by a beach chair in close proximity to another signal. I reduced my detector’s sensitivity and interpreted its visual display as a target of interest and decided to take a scoop. From under a piece of seaweed a brilliant glimmer could be seen as a ring of diamonds slipped into the scoop.

That was the end to my searching and the beginning of the ring return. I kept the ring in the scoop as I love to see the emotions of the owner as they remove it and place it back on the finger where it belongs. Emmie had gone to the car and was on her way back. That gave her “friends” and husband time to conjure up a plan for the return. I would be handing out cards to those around, all except one for Emmie. I had a special Thank You card for her. This return was a special moment for both of us. For Emmie as she was to be reunited with her wedding band of two years and for me because it was my 150th return since joining TheRingFinders in 2011. Emmie’s card had a Thank You note on the reverse side and a Carpe Diem (Seize the Day) token made by another metal detectorist, Jim Wirth. A more perfect return I could not have hoped for on my 150th return.

Many photos were taken, thanks were given and received. Of course a few stories of past returns kept everyone’s concepts of metal detecting intriguing. Everyone could now leave the beach in a joyful spirit. The beach goers headed off to a lobster feast and I to a peaceful ride home. I took the time to reminisce over the past 12 years of putting smiles on the face of so many and how fortunate I am to have done so. What a perfect way to live in vacation land and enjoy retirement. Thanks to all those who have trusted in me. Yes, it really has been my pleasure to help when one needed my expertise the most. Again; Thank You all.

Heirloom Sentimental Rings Lost In Hampsted Found by Crystal Coast Ring Finders

  • from Emerald Isle (North Carolina, United States)

June was spending time in her son & daughter-in-law’s backyard.  They were just checking out the variety of plants around the trees towards the back of the property.  June was pulling a few weeds and vines in the process.  Shortly afterwards, she noticed 3 rings were missing.  These rings were all over 100 years old and belonged to her and her late husband’s parents.  These rings held so much meaning for June.

I was expecting a backyard with more grass than landscaping & trees.  I first brought my Equinox 800 with the 15″ coil.  This proved to be too sensitive to the items under the pine straw and the metal fence surrounding the backyard.  I switched over to my CTX-3030 and 11″ coil.  It also gave me some problems but was easier to maneuver through the items growing in the pine straw.  As I searched the first bush June said she pulled weeds, I ran into interference with the fence being so close to the bush but also noticed a solid tone just a bit away from the fence.  It was then I decided to search this bush for anything around or inside it’s branches.  My Garrett pinpointer sounded off about 10″ above the ground in the middle of the bush and you can guess the rest as I removed the pine straw and leaves from the bush, all 3 of Junes rings were also found.  I take pride in exploring all options when hunting for lost items and this was a first for me to find lost rings above the ground.

June was very emotionally moved when the news of her rings being located.  It was a very moving moment.  It was very nice to talk to June and her family during my brief visit.
