I received an email from Erin about searching for her lost wedding ring in her backyard. It had come off her finger somewhere behind her patio in the backyard.
We made arrangements for me to come to her house after work. Her husband showed me the area.
I got my equipment together and found it in about 10 minutes. I wish they were all that easy!

Knowing I am a member of TheRingFinders.com, a friend sent me a text message that a diamond wedding ring set had been lost at the Hyatt Hill Country Resort and Spa in San Antonio, Texas. Before even connecting with the Fort Worth couple that lost the rings, I contacted the Hyatt security to obtain permission for a search on their property. The Chief of Security already knew of the lost rings and granted permission for me to search for them. I then contacted Austin, the husband, who stated that while staying at the Hyatt on Saturday night they had attended a “Movie on the Lawn.” Sitting on a Hyatt supplied blanket and watching the outdoor movie, his wife had taken the ring set off to apply some hand lotion. She placed them on the blanket and then noticed some close friends walking past. They departed with the friends forgetting that the rings were left on the blanket. Austin and I discussed what could have happened to the rings. It was doubtful someone saw the rings on the blanket and took them because it was nighttime dark. They could of slid off the blanket when the staff retrieved it after the movie. They could have been rolled up in the blanket and tossed in the laundry. If the latter happened they were probably gone forever! Hoping they rolled off the blanket into the grass I contacted Hyatt Security to arrange a time to search. Security informed me that particular lawn is used every night for movies and during the day for other functions. They even said there had been a wedding on the lawn since the rings were lost. Uh Oh! What if someone had found the diamond ring set and not turned them in to Lost and Found! They suggested to be there about 9 AM the next day (Wednesday) to conduct the search.
After the 60 mile drive from Kerrville with my son (and metal detecting partner Shane), we arrived at the Hyatt Hill Country Resort and Spa.
At the guard shack we were directed to the security office for sign-in and escort to the particular lawn that the diamond set was lost at. They also verified by phone with Austin that I had his permission to search for the rings. Security led us through the expansive resort to the site of the loss – a beautifully manicured lawn with thick, lush grass.
Austin had sent me a Google map with markings of the area on the lawn they had sat to watch the movie. I set an imaginary grid line and proceeded to sweep the lawn with my Garrett AT Pro. Shane followed beside me using his Garrett Pro Pointer. It wasn’t very long when Shane exclaimed “Here’s one of the rings!” and shortly after he said “Here’s the other one!” He had found both of the rings with his Garrett Pro Pointer. They were virtually on top of each other but buried deep in the grass. After taking a couple of on-site pictures (no videos allowed) we were escorted back out.

I sent a text to Austin with the pictures of the found rings. Needless to say he was ecstatic and said that he had in mind a special way to give them back to his wife.
In less than 48 hours of my first hearing of the lost rings buried in grass, the rings were found and returned to the finger they belonged on. They even traveled halfway across Texas to Fort Worth on an airplane!
Austin did everything right to make this recovery successful. He provided a detailed map of the where the loss occurred, pictures of the rings before they were lost and contacted the management of the facility to gain access for a search. Most of all he put his faith in Shane and I to recover them!

On 08/11/18, I received a call from Jeff requesting my help in finding his lost White Gold Wedding Band on the beach at 98th street in Ocean City, Maryland. Jeff said that he and his family were at the beach when he took his wedding band off and gave it to his wife before going swimming. Jeff’s wife put his ring in the cup holder of her chair. Jeff said that when they got ready to leave the beach they forgot that the ring was in the cup holder, they folded up the chair and left the beach. Jeff said that they realized that his ring was gone only after they had left the beach. Jeff said that he believed that his ring had either fallen out of the cup holder when they folded up the chair or that at some point it had fallen through the bottom of the cup holder because it had a hole in it that they did not know about. Jeff said that he and his family had gone back home and that he was no longer on vacation in Ocean City. Jeff provided a good description of the area at the 98th street beach where he felt that his ring was lost in the sand. I told Jeff that I would search for his ring but that it would be few hours later because I was not currently at home. I responded to the beach later on Saturday evening and began a search for the ring. I spent several hours looking in the area for the ring with no luck. I even had a visitor tell that I was in the right area because he had seen people with flashlights looking for something in the same spot on Friday evening. After an extensive search of the area and not finding the ring I placed a call to Jeff to see if he could offer any new information. Upon talking with Jeff, he directed me to an area that was only a few feet north of my original search area. On my third sweep of the new search area I heard a solid tone in my headset and upon digging into the sand I located the lost ring. I called Jeff back and gave him the good news, Jeff asked me to mail his ring back to him which I did and Jeff was nice enough to send me a picture of him holding his recovered lost ring.
I received a call from Abe after he lost his 14k white gold wedding band with diamonds on the first day of vacation in Ocean City NJ. I met Abe at the beach and he said that the ring was in his pocket with his wallet. When he went to meet the ice cream man he pulled out his wallet while walking and must have dropped the ring in the sand somewhere between where they were sitting and the ice cream man. Several people had been looking for the ring but there search was unsuccessful. The search area was large and the ring was about 150 feet from where they were sitting. After a through grid and search of the area the ring came out of the sand! Abe came and gave me a huge hug and thanked me! Abe said the ring is very sentimental and was very happy that the ring was found!
This all started when Lana gave me a call early August 8th and asked if i would help look for her wedding ring which she lost in the water almost a week and a half ago. I let her know that I will do my best and give it a shot. Knowing that Waikiki is a detectors favorite and its been over a week I needed to get down there ASAP and bring along with me help. So, I asked my dad if he would be willing to help and as always… Dad said yes and we were out to Waikiki that very morning. After 4 and 1/2 hours my dad and I came up short. NO ring! We went home knowing we gave it a good scan but there was some variables like tide and there were a lot of people in the water. So, The very next morning I get a gut feeling to go back and look. I drive back out to Waikiki and start looking again. After 45 minutes I get a faint sound and decide to dig it. I dig a big scoop of sand out and toss it on the sea floor and run my coil over the hole. BOOM I get a louder tone and it sounds like gold. A few more digs and I run my coil over the gaping hole in the ocean bed in which i don’t hear anything. So, I run my coil over the mounds of sand that has been removed and BOOM its there. I scoop and whats inside my scoop is a huge size 11 14K White gold with diamonds and a center 2 karat diamond in the middle. I knew I found her ring. As i am on my way back to the shoreline to rinse off I see Hawaii News Now setup by the showers and I ask them if the lady from yesterday is ok? The exchange words and then Billy V from hawaii news now asked the question… Did you find her ring? i said YES! He asked to see it and if it would be ok to let hawaii News Now run a short story about this event. I said yes and the lights went on and then came ACTION! We were able to call Lana and film the good news of HOPE and ALOHA. Well this was definitely GOD orchestrated and the saying is true… ALOHA IS ALIVE.
Esther called me and asked for help finding her future sister-in-law Gerry’s engagement ring. Reason #2 again! Yup, ring put into beach chair pocket, chair folded up later when they left, and no ring by the time they got to the car. I get the particulars and find out it’s been two days since the loss. That’s an eternity on the blanket line at a popular beach, but, always worth a try. I met Esther at the beach and she directs me to the search area. Since she wasn’t with them when this all happened, I could only get a general idea of where it might be. Esther’s Brother-in-law and future husband of Gerry was on his way to help narrow the search area since he was there at the time of loss. I searched a bit in the mean time, but, only came up with a few coins. That was a good sign however, telling me that it was unlikely anyone else had detected that area lately. The beach groomer hadn’t been through there either, another thing in our favor. Hollis arrived and pointed out the area he believed they had been, and Oh, there were actually 5 rings that were lost! 1 white gold, and 4 silver, so, I’ll be digging just about all signals.
Naturally, there were other people camped right in that spot today! I started searching an open spot next to it while Esther and Hollis went to get permission to hunt under the people’s tent and around their camp. The people were nice enough to allow that, but, no ring came to light. I went back and continued to grid the open area while they tried to figure out where the next likely spot would be. After many passes and getting about 100 feet away from where the rings should be, I was just about to stop and move to search their path back to the car, and the trash cans where they stopped on the way, when I get another good « dime » signal. I scoop and sweep over the hole. Still a signal, so, I dump the sand and take another scoop. Hmmm, two rings in the scoop that look like the silver rings described by Hollis as being the other rings Gerry had lost. I called him over and he confirmed that those were two of them. I swept the hole again, but, nothing. Swept the sand I dumped out on my first scoop, and I get another signal. Yup silver ring number 3. Another sweep and silver #4. To heck with silver! Where’s the gold! Next scoop is where! A beautiful engagement ring comes to light. My first 5 ring recovery! Hollis and Esther are amazed and very happy to see those rings again, and Gerry was too when she was contacted with the good news. A pleasure to meet you, good luck on your future marriage Hollis and Gerry, and thank you for the reward.
Fie was visiting here in San Diego and went to the beach with her son. She decided to put some sun screen on her son and removed her wedding, engagement, and anniversary rings and put them in her jeans pocket. She and her son went and played in the sand and water (where she got knocked over a few times) and at the end of the day, she realized her jean pockets were empty! Panic sets in at that point trying to figure out what to do. Fie’s cousin starts a Google search and up pops TheRingFinders.com website and my contact info. Since she had just lost them only 2-3 hours before she contacted me, I wanted to get on site as soon as possible, even though it was going to be high tide soon. Being a Friday night, hot, humid, and summer time, I knew it would be crowded and hard to find parking. No matter, I wanted to get there before someone else found the rings and made off with them. I met them shortly after sunset and headed to the area they had been that afternoon. Even though there were still a few people on the beach, I was able to search almost all of the suspect area. No rings…shoot. Well, the tide was just starting to head out, but, not enough yet to do a water search. I told them I would return early in the morning and sweep the area at low tide. Not knowing exactly when and where the rings came out made it a HUGE search area, probably 3-4 football fields in size was a possibility. I returned at 2am and started just south of the most likely area and planned on gridding my way north all the way to the pier if necessary. She had only gone knee deep, but, it’s a pretty shallow beach in that area so tons of wet sand to cover. After about an hour and a half, I hit my best sound of the night. One big scoop and I had a beautiful engagement ring in my hand. Even covered in sand and with only my headlamp to see it, I was pretty sure it was one of her rings. Now, where are the others? I looped around this one a couple of times, but, nothing. Hmm. Ok, I continued on with my grid and about 8 feet away, I get another great signal. Sure enough, another matching ring comes to light. Alright, just one more! Circled around that area a bit and again, nothing. Dang, continue with the grid again. Another 8 feet toward shore and I get the third one. All of them were in a straight line from about a 160 feet out from the dry sand. This was a 3’s wild kind of night. Her’s was the 3rd set of 3 rings I’ve recovered and it started at 3:33am! I looked at my watch after finding the first ring. Kinda weird, but, in a nice way! When I got home, I texted Fie and told her that I would contact her later in the day after I got some sleep. We made arrangements to meet that afternoon. She and some of her wonderful family came and had a joyous reunion with her rings. It was a pleasure to meet you all and thank you for the generous reward!

I was out visiting my grandson on the Island when I received a distress call from a young lady who lost her diamond engagement ring at Kits beach. I listened to her story on how she lost her ring and how they searched but couldn’t find it, I could tell she was very upset and that she thought she’d never see it again.
She went on to tell me that she was calling me from the airport and she was on her way back home from visiting Vancouver. She also said that she was getting married in 3 months, I asked her if she took any pictures of the area on the beach where she had lost the ring and she said she did and sent them to me.
After taking a look at the pictures I knew exactly where on the beach she was, I told her that I’d be there in a couple of hours to find her ring. I headed back to Vancouver after a day with my grandson and went directly to Kits beach. I found the area she lost the ring and started my search, after 20 minutes and the good signal I was looking for and in my scoop was her beautiful engagement ring!
I was able to send her a text message with a picture of her ring and when she landed back home In Saskatchewan the first thing she saw on her phone was a picture of her ring. The next thing I did was go to Fed-EX and ship back her beautiful engagement ring.
