Chatham, Cape Cod: One quick trip to the beach to find a lost ring before dinner

  • from Cape Cod (Massachusetts, United States)

Jeffrey called me about 4:30pm about finding his misplaced ring. I know the beach well and there are many detectorist that comb the sand daily. Therefore it was most important to start searching ASAP. I told Jeffrey that I could meet him at the beach in about 45 minutes. I made it to the beach in 35. I got ready and when Jeffrey showed up we started the short walk to a secluded sandy spot. I thought it would be an easy search – I was wrong. Two beer cans, a couple of pull tabs and a quarter and one target so deep it is still there. But no ring.

Then it was off to second area closer to the water and wet sand. Dang! I had the wrong detector for this search, but I would give it a try anyway as it was a small area and I could see just where Jeffrey had been sitting. In just three swings of the detector a solid response to a buried object was ringing in my ears. Next was to take a scoop of sand and yes in the sand was a platinum ring, the object of my search. I sifted the sand from the scoop leaving only the ring. Now it was Jeffrey’s turn to do something except watch me with great expectations. It was his task to remove the ring from the scoop and place it back on his finger were it belonged.

The round trip from and back to the cars took less than 25 minutes. When back at the cars a couple of quick stories were shared and pictures were taken. The only down side to this return was it delayed both Jeffrey’s and my timely entrance to our dinner engagements. However, the entrances were made with smiles, just a bright as the ones in the photo for sure.

Lost Platinum Ring in Crystal Cove Found and Returned

  • from Santa Monica (California, United States)

I was finishing up a search searching for someone’s lost jewelry this Sunday and I was approached by someone that said, « Can you please help us? My friend just lost his platinum wedding band ». I walked over and met Paul. He just told me that he was playing in the sand with his family and lost his platinum wedding band and that his wife was going to kill him. I swung the coil a few times in the area that he showed me and surprise! Within a minute it was in my scoop. He said, « you did that like it was nothing! » I said, « Finding it quickly was the easy part, the 30 years of practice was the hard part ». I made sure Paul was on the way home to his wife and ensure he would not be in the doghouse tonight.

Lost Diamond and Platinum Ring in Zuma Beach Found in Rocks and Returned

  • from Santa Monica (California, United States)

I was metal detecting on Sunday morning with a friend at Huntington Beach at about 5:00 in the morning and took a break at 11:00 to get a snack. I saw that I had a few missed calls, so I checked my voice mails and called back. Veronica answered the phone, and told me that her mom Anna, had lost her diamond ring the day before at Nicholas Beach, about 80 miles away just north of Zuma Beach. Five minutes later, I was on my way. Once I got off the 10 freeway in Santa Monica over an hour later, I hit Pacific Coast Highway. Sunday beach traffic was quite challenging. An hour later I met up with Veronica. I followed her down to the beach and met Anna and her husband. What a nice couple! They showed me where they put the ring into a chair pocket the day before, and thought it was lost in that area in the sand. I worked the grid pattern and worked with the detector down to the water’s edge, but no signals. I hoped that the previous night’s high tide hadn’t bur  ied the ring or swept it out to sea. I asked Anna to retrace her steps when she left in a hurry because the high tide was coming in and covered most of the beach with waves. I worked the detector in between the rocks and got some large iron signals. Then I went over her husband’s matching ring to see the sound it was creating. I detected a few more minutes between the beach and the stairs and I got a crisp, loud signal. I said, « this sounds promising! » The next thing I knew, the ring was in my scoop. I handed it to her husband and he handed it to Anna, who was overwhelmed with joy. They had been happily married over 20 years and her ring was custom made, so it was extremely sentimental. It was a 3 hour drive home in Sunday beach traffic, but the looks of happiness and gratitude on their faces made it all worthwhile. It was a pleasure to help such a great family.

Gold wedding and engagement rings RECOVERED!

  • from Cape May (New Jersey, United States)

Received a call this past Thurdsay morning for a lost wedding ring set. The rings were dropped sometime Wednesday and after the owner and her family searched yesterday they came up empty handed. So took the ride over this morning and met up with the owner and after about an hour or so searching out popped two gold beauties!

Clients review of service: « Amy Bullock Jones-I highly recommend giving Jeff a call if you are ever in the unfortunate situation of losing a ring(s) or other valuable item on the beach! I lost both of my rings (wedding band and engagement ring) yesterday after taking them off to apply sunscreen….after which I got distracted with five 13 year old girls. I didn’t even realize until later that night that they were missing. After searching every possible bag and beach chair pocket I was certain they were on the beach. The next morning I found Jeff through an internet search thinking I should at least give it a try. Jeff showed up within 1/2 hour of my phone call and went above and beyond to search the entire area I pointed out I thought we were around, and the area we exited the beach. I was absolutely amazed he found them both!! Thank you so much to Jeff for his quick response, extra effort to make sure he covered all areas, and a great result!! Thank you! »

2 Week old wedding band recovered!

  • from Cape May (New Jersey, United States)

Received a call last weekend for a wedding band that slipped off and fell into the bay off a boat slip finger dock. It was just about high tide when the owners called but I took a ride to see the area in the daylight and get an idea of where the owners believed it may be. They did a great job of pinpointing the area. At this point the ring was in well over 12ft of water so I assured the owner that I would come back at low tide and attempt to recover the ring. Met back up at 11 pm and after poking around in the stinking black back bay muck for about 20 minutes, out popped this beauty. Another successful recovery!

Ring Found and Returned at Newport Beach in the Dry Sand! (2016)

  • from Orange (California, United States)

The sun going down quickly on a Monday in October 2016, and as I was finishing my day’s detecting, a lifeguard truck came by and said that a couple had lost their ring in the sand and he was taking them a detector to borrow and try to find it, but wanted to know if I would also help. Of course I said, and made my way over to where his truck drove to.

I did not know the lifeguard station had loaner detectors, and it was one of those $75 units with an analog meter on it, and the guy had already started playing with it to try and figure it out to find hs ring by the time I arrived about 5 minutes later.

His poor wife was panicked, sifting through sand already for a half hour on all fours trying to find his ring. Her hands were dirty and she had finger-raked about an 8′ square where she thought it was. They said it was on his ‘T’-Shirt and he forgot and shook it out and lost the ring. The guy was still fiddling with the « Toy » detector and randomly walking around, so I asked her if I could search where she was and I found it in about a minute, right where she had been dragging her fingers through the sand for a half hour.

I said « Oh, here is a good signal » and as I scooped it up, the ring just appeared as the sand sifted through my scoop and she burst into tears and hugged me! It was an heirloom from his Grandfather that they used as his wedding ring, and they were so very happy I found it as it was already getting dark.

It was a Platinum ring with patterns all around the outside of it. (Sorry I did not get a closeup of the ring.)

Great feeling to help them get it back!
