Lost Rolex found! Lake Mendota, WI

  • from Menomonee Falls (Wisconsin, United States)

P1060163 It happened in an instant. A routine boat docking turned to dissapointment when Dave Mayland’s Rolex watch caught on a mooring fixture and flew off his wrist into the dark waters of Lake Mendota in Madison, Wisconsin. To make matters worse, the watch was a 10th anniversary gift from his wife.

I received a phone call from Dave telling me of his loss. The question uppermost on his mind was, “Do you think it can be recovered?” After reviewing the details and looking at satellite maps together via the internet, I determined there was indeed a good chance of locating and recovering Dave’s lost property.

The morning I arrived on location, I had only just gotten started when a thunderstorm forced me to retreat to my car for safety. Once the worst of the storm passed I resumed the search while a gentle rain peppered the lake’s surface.

The lake bottom was not friendly to my Minelab Excalibur detector. It encountered evidence of former cottage-country visitors and ice fishermen–Old Blatz beer cans. These were summarily returned to their resting places, this in concert with Wisconsin DNR regulations [any artifact found in the ground or water that is 50 years old or older is deemed to be an archeological relic]. Coontail aquatic plants likewise impeded my search efforts. But after three hours, a promising signal proved to be that of Dave’s treasured wristwatch.

Dave, thank you for allowing me the joy of locating and recovering your fine Rolex. May its story continue many more years. Thanks too, for your kind reward.

Dad’s wedding band lost while playing tetherball with his daughter in Ballard, WA – Now found!

  • from Saint Paul (Minnesota, United States)

I got a call this afternoon from a gentleman who’s ring went flying off his finger while playing tetherball in his front yard with his daughter.  We searched the garden along the front of his house and found the ring under a very ‘bushy’ bush.

It was a great time for dad, daughter and me – especially because the ring was found!

How to Find a lost Gold Ring in Green Lake BC…

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

I received an email last weekend from a young man who asked me if I could help find his fiancés lost engagement ring in about 3 feet of water. I said absolutely if she knows where the approximate area where that ring came off at, and he said that she had a good idea. Then he went on to say that she lost it at Green Lake…That would be a 900 kilometer return trip…630 miles north of Vancouver. After a few email and figuring out the day of the trip ,we set out at 3am Sunday morning. It took roughly 5 hours to get there and I was in the water searching within 10 minutes of arrival. After the young lady showed me the area where she was hitting a volley ball I started the search. Unfortunately I ran into what we call hot rocks… mineralized rocks that messes with our Detectors  and gives us a good signal.  After slowing down the grid search I received a solid signal and after just 30 minutes I found the hiding spot of the young ladies beautiful diamond engagement ring. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAHere are to two high school sweethearts! Lost Gold Cross… Found in Davenport, Iowa

Contact:

Hi everyone,

I received a call yesterday from Tom about a lost gold cross his son had. Tom had bought two of these crosses in Greece one for each of his sons. His son Tony, who is a college student, was at a friends house over the fourth of July. They were playing on one of those yellow slippery slide things in the friends backyard plus throwing a Frisbee.

Tony felt his chain slip down his neck and was able to catch it but there was no gold cross on the broken chain. He said they searched the area but was unable to find the cross. They tried again last night with a flashlight hoping they would pick up a glimmer from the gold. With no luck.

Most people in my area are do-it-yourselfers, so Tom rented a detector and tried to find it. He was unsuccessful. He then gave me the go ahead to come search for the lost gold cross.

I arrived at 10:30 this morning and Tony showed me two different areas where he thought he lost his cross. It wasn’t in the first area.

It took about an hour and I finally got the signal I was hoping to hear! I could see a chunk of gold peaking through the grass. I like a happy ending and so did this family.

Happy Hunting Everyone

I received a phone call at 7:30 am on May 27th 2013 regarding a Platinum Wedding  set that had been lost the day before on May 26th 2013 in the sand at Rehoboth Beach, Del. The story was that the couple were celebrating their wedding anniversary on May 26th and that they were at Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. The owner had taken her rings off and placed them in her lap in order to put suntan lotion on the couples child. Forgetting that she had placed the rings in her lap she stood up and the rings fell into the sand. There were attempts made to recover the rings by sifting the sand, but the rings were not to be found. Upon getting the phone call I arrived at the beach about an hour later only to find that the beach had been raked by the city workers using a tractor and a sand rake. My fear was that the rings had either been gobbled up by the sand rake or that they had been carried in an unknown direction down the beach by the sand rake. I began my search in an area that was pointed out by the ring owners husband with negative results. I then adjusted the area of my search due to the husband believing that they had been closer to the water than he originally thought. The husband left the beach in order to help his wife pack as they were to leave to go back  home on this day, I told him that I would call him with the results of the search. The husband had’nt made it back to his parked car before I recovered the 1kt diamond Platinum ring right in the area where I began my second search. I called him and told him that he might want to come back down to the beach which he did and at that time I returned the recovered ring to him. I then conducted a spiral search from the area that the diamond ring was found and I failed to locate the wedding band. I then searched north of that same location without recovering the band. Then a search of the area to the south of the recovered diamond ring resulted in the recovery of the wedding band sixty feet south of where the diamond was recovered. It appeared that the sand rake had moved the wedding band from the area of where it had been dropped. I actually saw several of the small diamonds on the wedding band glistening in the sunshine before my metal detector passed over top of it. A small portion of the top of the wedding band was exposed just above its hiding place in the sand. The wedding band was recovered and returned to its rightful owner. Another anniversary saved by the Ringfinders!

June 30th 2013 I received a phone call from a frantic Adrianna, telling me she lost her wedding ring at East Sooke Park while playing in the water with her children.

Adrianna also informed me that she had only been married for one month and this ring was everything to her.

I met with her Tuesday at noonish and began the search after three hours in and out of the water with no luck I made plans to return the next day early to catch the low tide.

The next day at 9:00 a.m. I started the search again and after two more hours bingo, found it.

I sent a text to Adrianna with a picture of her ring, she replied « No-way, THANK-YOU, THANK-YOU, THANK-YOU! »

Lost Texas A&M College Ring Houston, Texas (Recovered)

  • from Sugar Land (Texas, United States)

06/30/2013

I was contacted by Chris a resident in Houston (North Houston) regarding his daughters lost Texas A&M College Ring (Aggies). Chris said he believes his grandson had picked up his daughters A&M ring and dropped it somewhere in his front yard. Chris said earlier in the day his grandson had grabbed the ring off of a counter in the house, and was seen playing with it, Chris said they took it away and placed in an area out of his reach. Well thats what they thought, they later discovered the ring was again missing. Chris said after throughly searching the house and not finding the ring, they knew the only other place it might be is in the front yard. Chris said his grandson had been in the front yard the day the ring went missing.

07/01/2103

I made trip up to north Houston, and met with Chris who outlined the areas he believed the ring might have been lost. Chris’ house was a corner lot, and when I arrived, I was thinking this is going to be a long hot day.

I used a little marking paint on Chris’s lawn to establish a search grid pattern and was preparing for an extensive search of his front and side lawn. I opted to start the search near his front door and hit the first foot of grass and « Hello » Texas A&M.

Must be my fastest recovery to date, nice when it all comes togehter.

Running the CTX 3030 on this call.
