*** Alex had been surfing at Huntington City Beach when he felt his very special hierloom ring slip off his finger into the ocean. It was passed down to Alex from his dad. It meant the world to Alex.

Surfers rings are usually lost too far out to get them a low tides. Especially at Huntington Beach, CA. I looked at the next best low tides to have the optimum chance to find the ring. I would need Alex to be there to guide me in the general location.

We met the next morning at 5am when the parking lots opened. Alex was there with his mother. As we walked onto the beach it was still dark. I tried to be honest with Alex about our chances of finding the ring at this particular beach, considering he was surfing when the loss occurred. We had three things going for us. One, he felt the ring come off.
Two, he was on the inside set of braking waves. Three, he was there to point me in the right direction.

I turned on my metal detector walking straight out till I got to knee deep water. Then I turned to my right to begin scanning parallel to the waves. Three steps to the north “BOOM” first target in the scoop was Alex’s ring. His mother was near me so I passed her the ring to make sure it was the correct ring. It was still dark so she took it over to Alex who had a flashlight. They both came over to me in shock not believing what had just  happened. 

I find rings lost in the ocean a couple days after they have been lost, but not in the first 2 or 3 minutes os a search. Another awesome recovery for the Metal Detector Man. 

These quick finds are always special especially when they are long shots. Just to be realistic, I need to tell you that I have been on more than three unsuccessful searches in the last month that were more than four hours each. WIN SOME! LOSE SOME !

Lost 1960 class ring found Fort Worth, TX

Robert emailed me asking about my services on September 2, 2020. He said his daughter had tied his mothers 1960 class ring to her shoe laces so she wouldn’t loose it while playing lacrosse in the front yard. Well she lost that ring on August 29, 2020. Robert tried looking for it with a metal detector but had no luck. He thought for sure it would be in the front yard and possibly  in the backyard. We arranged a search date and I came out on September 4th. I started my search in the front yard and after about 8 minutes I found it. Robert was very happy, that ring was his mother’s class ring and she had passed it down to his daughter. I’m glad I was able to make your Labor day weekend a happy one. Thank you Robert for the reward!!

I received a call from Carolyn requesting my service to locate her earing lost in her back yard! Carolyn was kneeling on the lawn when her dog jumped up and tried to chew her ear.  He tugged on the earring and took off with it.

I met Carolyn this morning and she showed me the area.   Thankfully Carolyn had left every thing the way it was when it happened which made my search easer.  After tweaking my V3i to her other earring I began my search.  After about an hour of searching I found her earring.  I called Carolyn over to  show her how well covered with grass her earing was.   She was very happy to have her earring back!

Kevin called me yesterday afternoon requesting my assistance to locate his wedding ring which he had lost two weeks ago while gardening in his back yard.  After asking Kevin a few questions I agreed to meet with him in an hour.  His yard is huge! After a three hour search I called it quits for the evening but I assured Kevin if the ring was in the area I would find it for him! I told him that I would return the next day to continue the search and in the mean time to relax. I knew that was a hard thing for him to do as so far 2020 had been a disappointing year for him.

When I met up with Kevin the following afternoon I told him I was armed and had my « top guns » with me! I assured him that I was going to find his ring.  I retraced my steps once again where I thought the most likely place the ring could be but unfortunately I had no luck.  I kept looking in his compost pile as something told me it might be there but had no luck.  I kept asking Kevin questions trying to jog his memory.

My questions did trigger Kevin’s memory!  He had brought his wheel barrow and dumped his rose bush and other garden material in a pile at another location.   I searched the area and Bingo,  I heard  a very sweet tone and knew that was his ring!  I told Kevin that it was his lucky day.   At the bottom of the pile was his lost ring!  Kevin could not believe his eyes when I showed him his ring and was so happy to have his ring back.  It pays to keep  asking questions all the time even if  you have asked before. You keep asking as sometimes it jogs a distant memory,  just keep asking!

As Rick Browne (Ring Finder) and I were about to walk down on the beach, I got a call from Charles out of  Cape Cod, saying he didn’t want to call so early 6:30 am, but was in dire straights after losing his wedding band yesterday evening on the beach. I e-mailed him with my cell number ASAP. He then called, and I told him I would be there in less than two hours, to bare with us, as we were out on a beach searching for another ring at the moment. After finding and returning the first ring of the morning, Rick and I were off to meet Charles. He mentioned that there were quite a few people helping yesterday to find his Platinum Band to no avail… as we all walked down to the beach he had already marked off an area with beach chairs, but reminded us that he wasn’t sure if it was even there. It might be in the water too… Well first past got myself a dime… and second pass I asked Charles to come over here for a moment and to look into my scoop, and did the ring I just scooped up looked familiar ? He couldn’t believe it was there staring back at him… Less than 3 minutes into it, and a happy reunion… He later told us on the way back that its his Anniversary in Dec. and that the ring is under a year old… P.S. Rick Browne from the Ring Finders gave me a call late last night, and asked if I wanted to jump in on a ring find that was lost earlier in the day. Of course I said, what time, where, and can we go rite now? He laughed, and said let’s do it very early in the morning before the crowd shows up. I agreed… So in the early morning darkness, I was off and got to his house before he even opened up his garage door. Loaded up and off we went. When we got to the beach, Jay had not showed up there yet.  As we hung for a few minutes, Rick said lets go and see if we can get it before he gets here… We marked out the area that Jay had drawn out on the mapped area, where he new it flew from his finger when playing football the day before… Rick started to grid one way, and I the other… I literally took two swings and got a signal, stopped, and dug the ring… I looked over to Rick and said OK lets go… He laughed and said what a team… Ring in scoop and plenty of time to play till Jay and his daughter showed up… Rick met up with him before myself and gave him the great news… It’s so rewarding to hand back an item thought to be lost forever… P.S. Get that ring sized…    LOL

… Daisy and Brandon were at Huntington Beach, CA. enjoying the day on the beach when their day was disrupted by the loss of her diamond engagement ring. She didn’t feel it come off her finger but they were both sure that the ring was in the sand

Brandon was advised by someone on the beach about TheRingFinders metal detectin service. He located me by using his smart phone to get my contact information. I live less than 7 miles from where they at on the beach. I grabbed my equipment and was able to meet them at the location. 

We love these type searches because they were able to stay on the beach where they had been all day. Once someone leaves the probable area of the loss, it may take longer to find where they had been than it actually takes to find the ring with a metal detector.

I set up my detector beginning my grid search and within a few minutes the beautiful white gold with a sparkling diamond was in the scoop.

Both Daisy and Brandon were grateful telling me they had no idea this service existed. They thanked me but I told them they really should give thanks to the bystanders that recommended they call a member of TheRingFinders.

Lost White Gold Wedding Ring, Found on Leesburg Virginia Farm Ranch

I received a call on August 24th from a gentleman named Lyle in Loudoun County Virginia in the Leesburg area. I could tell he was very upset and asked if I was with theringfinders and if I could help him locate his wedding ring he realized he just lost. I received a few more brief details and within an hour was at his location. At first I was amazed at the sheer size of the ranch spread with about 40 Black Angus cattle (lots of calves) wandering the fields everywhere, then I thought about the search size, huge!!

I met Lyle at the main field and he commenced to explaining that he had been working the fields the day before, pulling large trees for burning from various locations across the spread including an 8 foot wide stream adjacent to the fields. As we continued to talk the search area became even larger as he indicated he’d driven the tracker down a approx. 300 yard gravel path towards the main gate and also had been around the upper house (built in the 1700s) and bull pen area, again a huge amount of property to cover. This by far would be the largest site I’ve searched for a recovery, but I was ready for the challenge.

On the first day we did some initial gridding and searching, Lyle even assisted with another detector, unfortunately no luck, but we were both very optimistic we’d find it and I planned on being back the next day. I made another couple of trips for several hours each time, gridding each section out to approx 100 yards at a time with red flags. No luck on these trips and so on one of the trips I decided to keep the flags in place so I knew where I had worked the previous day. I received a text that evening that Lyle and his daughter had to quickly remove the flags after he caught the cows eating them. On a subsequent trip I conducted a circuit around the house again and then the bullpen, then I retraced my steps with the previous grids and after no luck I decided to put on my wetsuit and booties to hit the stream, not too deep, very muddy (cows were usually always in the way here) but only about 8 feet wide and probably 40-50 yards long, again no luck.

So I’ll skip the final day. Sept 4. I was doing a slight retrace of the very original area and had a hit that was deeper that something I was looking for but for some reason I decided to dig it. After several minutes I saw a horseshoe and noted that it was facing up, facing up is good luck for those who believe! I pulled out the horseshoe, said a quick prayer that maybe today would be the day to return Lyle’s wedding ring to him. I moved slightly to the left of the main search field and in front of the large fire pit area and searched for about 15 minutes, Voila!! About 20 yards from the fire pit a strong hit and there it was lying under a thicket of grass. I called Lyle and he was so startled he said he had goose bumps and was immediately on his way back to the ranch.

A lot of work on this one but a fun time, the cows kept a constant watch on me and even had a group of 30 beagle hounds great me one day as they were being driven by four riders on horses. A great guy and customer reunited with a very sentimental ring, Thanks for calling me Lyle!!

Gents Gold Wedding Band Lost & Found On Studland Beach

Newly weds Nigel & wife visited Studland Beach & desicided to take a swim as it had been a gloriuos summers day. After swimming, covering an area of about four tennis courts they dressed & went for a walk. It was some time later his wife noticed « wheres your ring »?! When I was contacted by Nigel I wasnt very optimistic in its recovery. That part of the beach is notorious for the high trash levels as it was used in World War II excercises & beach defences. My first two hour search almost confirmed this.

We were due low tides in a few days so early one morning I returned hoping the sea had retreated far enough to scan more precisely. Carefully gridding out the area proved fruitless but on my first run scanning outside of our proposed boundaries of search the tone of gold nearly defeaned me. The Minelab CTX3030 even displayed ‘overload’ as the machine passed it in 8 inches of water!

When I called Nigel to tell him of my find he was as surprised & pleased as I was myself! Nigel contacted the Margaret Green Animal Sanctuary & made a kind donation.

Mens White Gold Wedding Ring Lost & Found On Swanage Beach

Back in July this year, Duncan & family from Surrey visited their beach hut enjoying a warm summers day at the beach. Cooling off and playing with his children, somehow Duncans wedding ring slipped from his finger & into the sea. Trouble is that according to him,   » it could have been out there somewhere ». I searched a few days after the loss & returned again without success summising it was lost even further out than expected.

Low tides were not expected until another month which increased the risk of the ring slipping deeper into the sand & out of reach. In mid August, early one morning the low tides came. Now the whole area of wet sand was exposed & careful deep scanning was finally acheivable.

After searching for an hour digging up trash after trash a weak signal struck & after two scoops later there it was! Six weeks under the water too! I met Dunacan & wife a few days later who described themselves as being ‘elated’ being reunited with it. They made a generous donation to the Margaret Green Animal Sanctuary.
