Lost pocket knife and key in grass, Central Florida….Found and Returned!

Two weeks ago my good friend Mr. Jack lost a pocket knife and single key while playing with our neighbors young dog. Mr. Jack and his dear wife are winter volunteers here at our retirement center and willingly work daily to help out on the grounds maintenance and cleaning. Mr. Jack has years of experience mowing lawns, trimming trees and taking care of plants in general. And he has a habit of always carrying two pocket knives in his pockets and his trailer key and when he lost those two items he was a bit concerned.

So many times people loose something in the grass, in their garden, in the water or at the park and after looking for awhile they give up hope of ever finding it and they walk away thinking they will never see it again. Thankfully theringfinders.com is here to give these people hope and help in these types of situations.

Like last Thursday while I was using a metal detector to locate a buried manhole cover when Mr. Jack told me about his lost pocket knife and key. And he was curious to know if I could find them for him and I assured him that the chances were very good if….he could put me in close proximity to where he lost them. He showed me the thick grassy area and I took three swings with my metal detector and got a really good signal and BOOM…there was his trailer key! Three more swings and BEEP, BEEP…up came his favorite pocket knife!

Lost Silver Ring In The Snow Found In Birmingham Michigan

  • from Detroit (Michigan, United States)

Squirrelly Silver!

This pictured lady was out in her yard Saturday evening throwing apples in the direction of multiple squirrels digging thru the snow for grub when her ring came off. When we talked we agreed to meet today and look. When I arrived there was about 2 or so inches of snow. She showed me the place where she stood and gave the general direction of her throws. I saw half eaten fruit and where there may have been critters in the snow and started to grid search in that direction. From above, jumping from different trees 2 squirrels were peering down thru the scented pinecones sending vocalesque squeaks, squawks, chatters and bark-like grunts in our direction with more intensity as we approached the food, or were they trying to send a message to my good luck charm Nessie? Fear aside, we marched on!
No metal targets came thru at first so I started to search along a line 90 deg. from the first. Just when I was getting close to the fence my MXT signaled loud along with a high meter read. As I brushed the snow aside this trapped, thick silver ring revealed itself! As I worked to free the ring from the ice the squirrels scurried down the trees and approached closer thinking we were putting more food down. Upon standing, handing her the ring, she held it up for a pic, but as the squirrels looked at the shiny object they quickly zoomed back towards the trees. We laughed and said as fast and zappy as they are we’ll never catch them but we did catch your squirrely silver!

Lost Gold Wedding Band at Ala Moana Beach Park…FOUND!!!

  • from O‘ahu (Hawaii, United States)

This ring find began when I got a text last evening from Jim who hails from Santa Cruz, California. While playing football with his son at some point his white gold wedding band came off. After ensuring no one else knew about the lost ring I told Jim I needed to get there immediately before another detectorist finds his ring in the dry sand. I stopped what I was doing and circled home to get my gear for this dry sand hunt. Jim texted me a pin location on google maps and when I arrived I called him to confirm. Jim was able to recall a significant amount of location data that I was able to draw a grid in the sand of about 100 by 75 feet. I started the hunt and after two beaver tails and a quarter I got a nice beep on the Nox and in one scoop there was Jim’s white gold wedding band. I texted Jim a pic of his found ring and he said he would be right down to retrieve it. Thankful the night detectors hadn’t started yet. Aloha to Jim!!!

Lost White Gold Ring Found In Attic In Ann Arbor Michigan

  • from Detroit (Michigan, United States)

Old News Is GOOD News!

No news is good news is the all familiar proverb many of us use day to day to reassure us that without information to the contrary we can assume all is well. This wasn’t the case tho with this nice, pictured couple after they searched for his lost ring last week while he was installing a vent on their garage roof. Just below the roof there’s an attic area for storage. He was in 3 different areas in the space moving things around on the joists to make room to install the vent plus walking back and forth to the house. We talked Thursday and agreed to meet today to search.
When I got to the garage it was indeed a tight chamber with no room for both of us. I could just barely get into the area by crawling. Armed with my dust mask, goggles, Garrett carrot and a portable light I couldn’t see directly into the floor joists where he thought it was so I probed with the pin pointer and found lots of nails. The material I was searching thru felt very light and the musty aroma upon entering the chamber reminded me of when I look thru old research materials…I thought hmmm… and as I sifted a bit more I got another signal. Thinking it was a nail I reached down and felt the shape of a ring! Getting myself over the joist with the camera revealed this gorgeous white gold ring that was covered with old newspaper insulation!
I yelled I got it, backed myself out and handed the ring with some of the newspaper to him and said, old news is good news! We both laughed, dusted ourselves off and took some pics.

Lost Gold Diamond Ring Lost In Townsend DE, Found By Dave Milsted

Taylor contacted me a week ago, asking if I would travel to Townsend Delaware to search for his wife’s lost white gold ring.

She had come home after work back in October and found their puppy in its crate, where he had an accident. Covered in poop she raced him outside to wash him off with the hose. He was not cooperating. When she was finished and back inside the house, she noticed her ring from her grandmother was missing.

I traveled down early this morning in the dense fog. I met Taylor and he showed me the search area. He said he bought a metal detector shortly after the loss, but the unit was always beeping.

I got started and understood why his machine was beeping. There are a lot of coins on the path his wife took to the hose. I didn’t dig any and left them for Taylor.

Five minutes after starting I got the signal I was looking for. I took out my pinpointer and got a surface hit, but couldn’t see anything. I scraped away a layer of mud and I could see the outline of a ring. I called Taylor over to have him see what I was looking at. He couldn’t believe it. He said no wonder why all of the time I spent on my hands and knees looking I couldn’t find it.

Either his wife or the dog, who is close to 100 pounds must have stepped on it shortly after it was lost. I dug it out and cleaned it off the best I could. It was a small white gold ring with 5 diamonds. The look on his face was priceless. I got a couple of man hugs!. I took a few pictures and started my journey home.

I love my hobby!!

Lost diamond earring, Winter Park, Fl….Found!

  • from Sanford (Florida, United States)

Sunday afternoon David gave me a call and asked if I could possibly help him find a very special lost diamond stud earring! Two days earlier, David’s mother in law, Mrs Susan, was getting out of her car and a small low hanging tree branch got tangled in her hair and she felt a slight tug at her ear and in the next moment her earring was gone! They immediately searched the thick low ivy bushes, along the concrete and even in the car thinking maybe it could have fallen in there as well. After an hour of frantic searching they could not find the lost diamond stud earring and decided to try again later.

As David thought about how to find the earring he went online and looked up where he could rent a metal detector and that search led him to « theringfinders.com » and one of my recent search and recovery stories.

I met David at his mother in laws home and he promptly showed me the area where Mrs Susan lost her precious earring. The ivy ground cover was super thick and as I turned on my Garrett ATMax metal detector and tried to ground balance the machine I had a very difficult time finding an area free of metal. I then tested the matching stud earring and it gave a very weak signal because it contained such a small amount of white gold. Unfortunately the rebar in the concrete and other underground interference would not allow me to use my metal detector so I opted to go with my Garrett Pro Pointer AT. As I started working my way along the edge of the thick ivy ground cover, David squatted down just in front and to the side of me and began searching with his eyes and he said, « There it is!! » And sure enough, there was Mrs Susan’s lost diamond stud earring. We could hardly believe it…as David, his wife and Mrs Susan had searched the area a couple of times and had all but given up hope!

It was an honor to have a small part in helping find this beautiful earring and I hope and pray it remains in your family for many years to come!
