How to find a Lost Ring in the Snow in Calgary

  • from Cochrane (Alberta, Canada)

Received a call from Perry, a metal detecting friend of mine. He was contacted by a gentleman asking to rent his detector. Instead of renting it, he called me up and invited my to join him on a hunt. Together we arrived at the location. A quick description let us know that the ring came off, bounced off his truck’s running board (he heard it) and disappeared! With that information we had the location narrowed down to a very small area. Perry fired up his machine and in a matter of moments heard the sound he was looking for. A quick bit of pinpointing and the ring was soon in the hands of one very happy owner.  I just realized that being a part of the find is just as good as being the finder. The smile on his face makes it all worth while.

Lost Diamond Ring Fort Langley… Found!

This is a result of the JC Effect and Global News…

Thursday around 3 pm I received a call from a slightly frantic young lady who told me that she had lost her diamond wedding ring in Fort Langley at a park. After talking to her and her husband in regards to the location the ring was lost I decided to go early in the morning knowing that in a couple of hours it would already be dark and no one would be able to find it. Also knowing not many people are at Park at this time of year when it’s so cold out, We set a time for 8 AM the next morning to search for her diamond ring.

I was already heading out in that direction to do a search for a lost wedding band in Agassiz so I stopped in Fort Langley first and got there at 7 AM, as I drove up another car was pulling in and the young man said hello Chris he saw my videos and knew it was me. They got there early as well probably just to do a walkabout and search before I got there. After talking for a little bit and understanding where she had been that day and what she was doing I started my grid search in the area they believe the ring was lost.

After about 40 minutes I started grid searching outside of the area where she did not expect the ring to be found, most times that’s the case, it’s where people don’t think it could be, and I’m happy to say that’s what happened here.

You have to think outside of the box and go with your gut instinct and grid search until you find what you’re looking for because if you don’t, you could be walking away from a smile. The story that surrounded this ring was beautiful and it was an honor to be able to help continue that story.

I have the best job in the world and I love doing this more than anything I’ve done in my lifetime. I get to make people smile, I get to hear their stories of what the ring means to them and how happy they are when I’m lucky enough to find it.

Diamond Engagement Ring Found Deep In Leaves in Nazareth, PA

  • from Reading (Pennsylvania, United States)

Lost a ring, call 610-207-8677.  I received a call from Darin saying his wife possibly lost her wedding bands while playing in the leaves with their kids. She noticed the rings were not on her finger when getting ready for bed that night. They searched the entire house and the clothes she was wearing and could not find them. They thought the rings must have come off while she was playing in the leaves on a nice autumn day. Darin found me on TheRingFinders and I arrived a few days later when our schedules aligned.

I met Darin at their home on a Saturday morning and began the search. I searched for over two hours in a large area of deep leaves that Darin had raked up and thick brush along a creek. I was getting a lot of shallow hits as there was lots of foil and tin in the area. I finally got a strong hit reading 50 on my Garrett ATPro and found the engagement band. Darin called Kate from the house and she came running with excitement to retrieve the ring.  I continued to search for about another hour looking for the wedding band but with no luck. Darin and Kate were more then happy with me finding the diamond engagement ring, but knowing the engagement ring was in the leaves, I may return another day to search for the wedding band. I love adding to my book of smiles and reuniting lost items to their owners.

Ring Lost Deep in the Fall Leaves

Got a message last night from a woman who had lost her wedding ring.

She was walking a forest trail in a local park with her toddler on her back and her young dog on a leash. Coming down a steep trail covered with fresh fallen oak leaves, she stepped over a fallen tree trunk, while her energetic dog decided to go airborne over it. The leash gave a hard yank on her hand and miraculously she felt her wedding ring break and fall off. She was able to see where a piece of the ring fell, so she carefully searched through the deep leaves and found that piece. Unfortunately, she didn’t see where the bigger piece had fallen, the section containing the diamonds.

This ring had a very sentimental history behind it. It had been worn by four generations of brides in the family, originating in the country of Poland. Needless to say, she was heartbroken and desperate to find it. She searched through the deep blanket of leaves for a long time, clearing a large area down to the soil, with no luck.

She went online later to try to find a place to rent a metal detector when she found my ad. Deciding to call me instead of trying to figure out how to run a detector. So we made plans to meet at 8:00 this morning, because I never know if a search is going to be a few minutes or all day.

I met her, her husband, their toddler son and their dog at the park. The little kid was fun to watch, he loved to show us how he could go up and down the banks, even with those tiny feet! She took me to the area where the mishap had taken place and I got started. I worked my detector coil methodically, pushing it side to side under the leaves. Got some signals from minerals in the rocks and from some old shotgun shell brass. Then I got a scratchy faint signal and dug my fingers in to search for the target. Under all the leaves and pushed 1/2” into the soil I saw something sparkle. There it was! She knelt down, picked it up and broke down with happy tears. Very nice ending! I have found hundreds of rings, but this one was probably the nost delicate ring I have ever found, very few metal detectors would’ve been able to find this one!

I love this hobby! Please click on my name above for more stories and contact information.

Ring recovered on Lake Michigan beach south of South Haven.

  • from Holland (Michigan, United States)

Received a call from Leah at about 3:30 this afternoon saying that her husband, Dan, had just dropped his wedding band in the sand and they could not find it.  Today  was a beautiful fall day in west Michigan, sunny with the temperature in the 70s (rare in November) so a good day for a road trip to Lake Michigan.  But with Daylight Savings Time over, we knew it would be dark by 6:00 and we didn’t have time to waste.  With my wife and the dog I jumped in the car and we headed out for the one hour trip to a nature preserve I hadn’t known existed.  Arriving around 4:30 we met Leah at the trail head and she guided us on the 1/4 mile trail through the woods to the beach where Dan was guarding the area where the ring disappeared.  I had Dan mark off the area where he thought his ring was lost, and I was impressed that he identified an area of only about 6 feet by 6 feet.  He then specified « about in this spot right here. »  I dropped the coil on that spot and hit the target immediately.  Immediately!  I set the detector down and gently started to brush the sand away with the palm of my hand until the outline of the ring came into view.  Dan stood there in amazement until he reached down and retrieved his ring.  They had searched carefully, but sand has a sneaky way about it.  This may have been my quickest search time ever for me to find a ring, but it was still very satisfying to make two nice people so happy.

Julie called and explained that she had been golfing with a lot of friends just a few weeks prior when she lost three precious wedding rings. She ask me if I would be willing to assist them as they were lost at Desert Canyon Golf Resort near Chelan, WA three hours over the mountain pass. She went further to explain that they no longer live in Washington state and had already planned a return visit to the Seattle area and had set aside one day to make the three hour drive to the golf course to look. She said they were planning on getting some metal detectors and seeing what they could do when a friend suggested they go online and find a metal detecting recovery specialist. A quick search online directed them to TheRingFinders where she found my offering of service for the Pacific North West Washington area.

She went on to explain that she had played a full eighteen holes of golf on that Saturday and Sunday. I asked for more details and learned that just prior to playing on Saturday she took both rings off. She placed them in one of the pockets of her golf pullover windbreaker and zipped it up thinking that would keep them secure. Well unfortunately after nineteen holes of golf when she went to retrieve her precious wedding rings they were gone. The pocket was still zipped up and her pullover was with her the whole time. She had lost a very precious wedding set consisting of her yellow gold diamond wedding band soldered to her yellow gold wedding band that had been custom made in a matching design of her husbands wedding ring. A second white gold wedding band with seven channel set diamonds that was given to her on her 20th wedding anniversary was also lost.

She told me she had found a small hole in the seam of the pocket that allowed both rings to slip to the inside lining of the jacket. At this point I began asking myself where do we even start searching if these rings just fell out of her clothing anywhere along the golf course. She went on to explain that the inside lining was not stitched at the top edge so it was like a bigger internal pocket. Her idea was that the rings most likely spilled out when she was taking the pullover on and off several times while playing nineteen holes of golf. She remembered only taking the pullover off near her golf cart. However exact details of where these actions took place were not so clear as she had played that course two days consecutively and detailed memories started to blur together.

She confirmed she had already made arrangements with the Desert Canyon Golf Resort management and they welcomed her to come back to search the course for her lost rings. She explained that her and her husband, Keith, already had travel plans set to arrive in Seattle on a Wednesday night and were planning to drive out to the golf course that next Thursday morning irregardless of anything else.

It didn’t take long for me to be fully on board to support this mission. I explained to her that Thursday was wide open in my schedule and not to worry about getting additional metal detectors. I explained to her this would be a very challenging search due to the large distance traveled over nineteen holes of golf and not having witnessed the area where the rings were lost. I told her not to worry as I would bring some additional metal detectors for her and Keith to use. Knowing what a large search area we had the more machines the better especially as this site was at distance over the mountain pass it would be more challenging for a revisit so I knew we had to take every advantage of this opportunity.

As planned each of us made the three hour drive over the mountain pass for an early tee time only today we would be swinging metal detectors not clubs. The Desert Canyon staff and local community was amazing. Everyone had been actively searching for the lost wedding rings for the past nineteen days yet to no avail.  Our first order of business was heading directly into the pro shop to speak with Rob the manager. It was at this point I learned that one of Julie’s friends had taken several photos of the group throughout that day of golf. Julie had Rob review the photos as she took notes as he did his best to identify what holes were associated with each photo. When he finished reviewing the photos he slid two golf cart keys across the counter and wished us the best.

The weather was typical for Eastern Washington at this time of the year. It was cold and windy but the Lord blessed us by holding back the rain and frost so there was no delays in getting started with the search. I allowed Julie and Keith to lead the way as she best knew key areas of the course where she may have taken the pullover off or put it back on. Still there was not definite spots leaving a lot of unknown possibilities over such an expansive search area involving a lot of active movements while playing golf! Never the less we pressed on starting our search on the front nine holes. After completing the front nine and still no rings we took a lunch break to warm up and refuel. Our search continued on with the back nine as the wind started to pickup and the temperature started to drop. As with many long searches even experienced recovery specialist like myself need to push back the doubt and remain in the game to the very end. Around hole five I began to wonder where these rings were hiding knowing that only a few more holes remained and our search would soon be over.

After four hours of actively searching we reached the 6th hole and with in just a few minutes I had a strong target with excellent numbers on my metal detector. As I started to work the ground with my pin-pointer Keith strutted to get excited as this was the only hole from the set of photos that showed her wearing the pullover at the tee box and no jacket on the green. This meant that Julie absolutely took her pullover off somewhere on this hole. As I worked the ground I pulled her yellow gold wedding set from the thick luscious grass and asked how would you like to have this back. At this point all three of us erupt with excitement and disbelief. Julie is overcome with emotion and so very happy to have her wedding rings back. At this point we all took a few steps back as I continued to work the area for her white gold 20th anniversary ring. Within a minute I pulled her second ring from the thick grass to everyones surprise.

Of all the holes she lost her rings on Desert Canyon’s Signature Hole 6. All who visit this hole are blessed with a breath taking view of thick green golf course grass contrasted with the dried out stubble of the rolling hills sides with the Columbia River below and silver lined cloudy skies above. This beautiful creation in nature is an absolute testimony of how God’s hand prepared a path for us free of obstacles allowing us to experience a successful recovery. These rings representing twenty-five years of marriage, love and memories were recovered and will continue with Julie as a reminder that good things still happen and not to loose faith and hope ever.

Please take the time to watch, like, share and subscribe to this story on my YouTube channel. In doing so others will learn of TheRingFinders and know when the time comes there is a specialist nearby that can offer them some experienced support in getting their precious items of value back!

Gold Ring Lost at Santa Monica Beach…Found and Happily Returned.

Steve’s Emergency Metal Detecting Service For You if you lost a ring or something precious to you. Please don’t wait until tomorrow, time will work against you, please CALL AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! 310-953-5268

Anna called me about 8:30 PM about a ring she lost earlier in the day. She was playing volley ball with friends and while she was hitting the ball, felt the ring come off. She and her friends, as well some bystanders fervently searched for her ring with no success. This was a ring her mother had given her, so it had a great amount of sentimentality. I let her know that I would go the same night if she could meet me there to show me where to search. She agreed, and I got my equipment together to go.

When we met in the parking area, (which was far from the beach), we walked over the highway to the beach. We were walking to the bike path when we passed another person with a metal detector who had just finished his day, which worried me about our possibility of a recovery. We walked out to the area, and Anna told me she had marked the area with some rocks and a stick (which was great). We searched for her marker, and finally found it. I began my search gridding carefully, and finding a few pieces of trash metal. I then began my search in the other direction, and after a few passes at about 11:00 PM, I had a nice chunky gold ring in my scoop. I handed it back to Anna who was so grateful to have it back, and I was glad to have been the implement of service for her.

Anna sent the following testimonial:

Ok I seriously don’t even know where to start! I lost my mother’s gold ring at the beach, at night, and lost all hope that I would be able to find it. I was so heartbroken, and was desperately looking online to rent my own metal detector. I didn’t think I was going to find anything, but you know, I was super desperate.

SOMEHOW, I happened upon Steve’s site, and man was he a lifesaver! He showed up to Santa Monica beach at 11pm and found my ring within 5 minutes! When he said 24/7 service, he really meant it!

I am so happy I found this service and Steve, and will continue to recommend this to literally anyone that loses a valuable item at the beach.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, for preserving my mother’s legacy Steve. I am forever grateful!

Farhanah

Lost White Gold Ring Found In Canton Michigan

Bagged It!

This nice gentleman was out raking and bagging leaves in the balmy temperatures yesterday when his ring came off. Borrowing a toy type detector he searched the small area of grass where he thought it was to no avail. On site it was indeed a small area. Setting up my MXT metal detector and scanning only took about 3 minutes and along with checking the mulch beds produced no ring. I asked how many bags of leaves did he fill, he said two and most came from the backyard. Scanning all the sides of each bag the detector whispered the ring is in this one. I said it’s in this bag, he said we searched the bags and didn’t find anything. As I tipped the bag to start emptying it I heard the lovely tone of a gold ring on concrete! He reached down in amazement, picked up his ring and holding it up he said I bagged it! I said yes lol I’m glad you bagged it and my detector and I are happy to have bagged it too!

Lost Platinum Wedding Band Lost, Recovered and Returned in Chadds Ford, PA

  • from Philadelphia (Pennsylvania, United States)

Steve found me in the Ringfinders online directory after losing his platinum wedding band while doing yard work at his home in Chadds Ford, PA. He told me he was familiar with the Ringfinders because he lost this same ring 3 years prior on a beach in California…the local ringfinder saved the day back then. I arrived at his home and he showed me the area where he was working in the yard… it wasn’t a large area and he was quite confident that the ring fell off exactly in area he was working. I scanned it the first time with my Minelab Equinox 800 detector quite quickly. After not finding it on first pass we decided to dump bucket of yard waste he had picked up that day and see if it was mixed in….but no luck there either. I decided to extend my search area beyond the area he had originally pointed out. Sure enough within a minute I received a solid « 13 » signal on my detector. There, after pushing aside the high grass, was his beautiful platinum wedding band. I was very happy the Ringfinders came through for him again with this same ring!

Gold Class Ring Lost, Recovered and Returned in Spring City, PA

  • from Philadelphia (Pennsylvania, United States)

Gabriel contacted me via the RingFinders directory regarding his lost high school graduation ring. Apparently 6 months prior he had been playing with his new puppy in his back yard and while throwing a ball he felt his prized gold class ring fly off his hand. He and his family spent an entire day searching for it on their hands and knees. After an exhaustive search he finally gave up and figured it was a goner. I guess he couldn’t stop thinking about it because he googled for metal detecting help and it led him to the Ringfinders and me! Gabriel was at work the day I arrived to search so I met his father, Hector, in the backyard. He was very familiar with the details of where the loss occurred and pointed me in the right direction. The great thing was that Gabriel is a twin and his father had his twin brother’s identical class ring. I was able to scan the available ring with my Minelab Equinox 800 detector so I could laser focus on just those #s when searching for the lost ring. The available ring rang up as a solid 20-21…so I set my detector to specifically focus on those #s. Well….30 seconds into the search I received a solid 20-21 signal. I bent down with my  pinpointer and sure enough the target is  just poking through the level of the dirt beneath the grass…with a hint of gold. I called Hector over and we dug very gently with our hands and with laughter, joy and surprise we revealed Gabriel’s lost ring! Hector immediately called Gabriel to put him on speaker phone and tell him the good news. Not sure if I ever heard anyone so happy!
