  • Land/Shallow Water Search

Cost For My Service

I work on a voluntary reward basis if the lost item is recovered (reward amount based on what you think is fair and can afford). If the search is unsuccessful, I would only ask a small fee to help cover travel costs to distant locations. “At the end of each year, I will add up all rewards received and give 50% to the Central Vermont Humane Society”

Search Types

Land, shallow water and snow. Using modern metal detecting equipment, I search for jewelry at beaches, parks, lakes, ski areas & private yards. If lost in a public area, call ASAP! Can also search for long-lost jewelry if approximate location is known.

Please visit my blog for pictures and stories from some of my searches.

Search Locations

Washington, Chittenden, Lamoille, Orange, Addison, Grand Isle, Caledonia and parts of Rutland and Windsor counties. I prefer to stay within a 75 mile radius of Barre, Vermont, but certainly willing to discuss locations further away.

Mike Baker's Bio

I am a FT carpenter, been an outdoorsman for nearly 50 years and have metal detected as a hobby for several years. I have found many valuable and sentimental items, getting great satisfaction when seeing the tears of joy when I return a lost sentimental item to its owner. I love hearing “oh my God, I can’t believe you found it!” When metal detecting, I am very persistent and methodical, sometimes even setting up a grid system.

  • Mike is a friendly, kind and generous guy (2019)

    Hi Friends & Neighbors,

This week, I met a very generous and special member of our FPF community! His name is Mike Baker and he is a member of "The Ring Finders", a group that helps people find lost metal objects of all kinds!

I contacted Mike to get help finding an electronic car key which I lost some time ago on a friend's property. We had searched repeatedly but could not find it!

Mike came over on a cold evening, head lamp and metal detector in hand. Even in these conditions, in a short time Mike had located my key! And the most amazing thing is that he does not charge for his service! Instead, he accepts donations, without obligation, the lion's share (and often all of which) goes to the Central Vermont Humane Society, Over the years, Mike's service has generated many donations for his favorite animal rescue and adoption charity.

Mike is a friendly, kind and generous guy who deserves our thanks and support in his efforts to serve our community and our animal friends

  • It is because of you I have my rings on my finger again (2018)

    Hi Mike!

I can’t thank you enough for your kindness and generosity! I couldn’t believe how quickly you dropped everything to come meet us, the amount of time you put into the search, and your perseverance against the biting bugs. It is because of you I have my rings on my finger again. They are of great sentimental meaning and it wouldn’t have been the same if our insurance had replaced them. Thank you again and again and again!

    My warmest gratitude,

    Heather

  • My wife and I call Mike the Ring Whisperer. (2018)

It is funny how sometimes things happen and you end up meeting a great person who has a passion for helping others.

I lost my ring in a snow covered parking lot at work. My wife stumbled upon Mike Baker, the ring finder online while we tried to figure out where to rent a metal detector.

We contacted Mike and he immediately showed up to help us as we all knew more snow was coming and could make finding the ring even harder.

I quickly realized what a nice and genuine guy Mike is.

He made pretty quick work of finding the ring and then we talked for a few minutes about how much he enjoys his craft.

While the relief of being reunited with the ring was a pretty great feeling, being reminded of unique people like Mike being out in the world was equally refreshing.

  • Mike is so kind and so helpful…I was so happy I cried!!! (2016)

I don’t quite know how to thank Mike. I lost a ring that had belonged to my mother that on Mother’s day, I passed along to my daughter. There was so much emotion tied up in the this ring with the connection to my lovely mom! I hunted for six hours on my own, digging through the gardens where I had been working, hunting through, bags of grass seed where I had been planting grass, and sifting through dirt I had dug. I rented a metal detector and came up blank. I called Mike and he kindly came as soon as he could. We spent an hour or two retracing steps and I was beginning to give up hope as I thought that I had looked pretty thoroughly….. Then we heard the beeps and Mike pulled this ring out of the dirt – in a place where I had looked three times! I was so happy I cried!!! It feels like a little part of my mom and I am so happy to be able to pass this on to my daughter. Mike is so kind and so helpful…! I am sure that he has many great stories to tell. Wonderful person!!!
