Lost Ring and Shark Visit – Gulf Shores, AL – FOUND!

  • from Orange Beach (Alabama, United States)

I was so tired yesterday that I didn’t even write up the story but the day was totally worth it. The night before I received a call from Angel who was down from Tennessee with her fiancé celebrating their engagement in Gulf Shores. She explained that she had been out in about thigh deep water throwing a football when her ring came off. At least she assumed it was in the Gulf, like most people, she wasn’t aware that it was gone until later that day. I agreed that I would come the next day but it would have to be at Sunrise because I was working that day and would have to find it before then. I pulled into the condo at 5:45am after an hour drive and Angel was already eagerly waiting for me in the parking lot. As we walked down to the beach and she explained where she thought it was, I quickly learned that she is just a lovely person and I said a quick prayer for help finding the ring. I got out in the Gulf and it was just awesome. The sun was beginning to peak over the horizon and the water was clear and calm. I was really enjoying myself and before long Angel’s fiancé joined her on the beach. I was explaining about the need to dig the occasional coin when I saw movement from my right. It was a small shark maybe a bit over 4ft long and he came right up to me about arms length. He just kind of eyeballed me and said hello and I thought that it was a great sign. I proceeded to do my first search pattern left to right with no luck. I then went into super detective mode and scoured the entire area again the other way going North and South. As I was wrapping up about an hour later I started to get worried. That ring was not where they thought it was. I walked up and suggested that we move some of the chairs around and let me grid off the beach. I could see Angel getting really worried so I tried to stay upbeat. When I was done with the beach, I told her that I wasn’t giving up yet so she couldn’t either. I told her to think about other areas it could be while I went back into the water and expanded my search west. I was on only my second pass when I got the unmistakable sound of gold. It was such a good signal that I got their attention and they watched eagerly as sure enough I had it in my scoop. There were so many shells it was hard to see until finally I saw a flash of diamond. I gave them a big smile and a thumbs up. It’s the first time I have had to fend off a couple with my metal detector and back away saying “Don’t hug me, don’t hug me”. 😃 Luckily, social distancing won out and as they hugged each other and cried a bit, I promised that one of these days I might make it up to Nashville post Covid and I would gladly take those hugs. Until then, Angel, I am so glad I was able to help you two out and I wish you all the very best! 💍

Got a call from Eddie, while enjoying the day with his wife on the beach, he went to go into the water when at the edge he got knocked down by a wave resulting in loosing his ring. Already on their way home he called asking for help. After getting some info I drove down and searched the area but with no luck. Getting home I asked for some more info that might help and he remembered sitting in front of some cabanas. Turns out I hunted the wrong lifeguard stand the night before and moved my search to the next one down. After 5 passes back and forth in the area I found his ring. I texted him a picture and he couldn’t believe it. Made arrangements to meet him the following week to return it back to him. When we met up I gave it to his wife so she could put it back where it belonged. A happy ending and great feeling.

Lit Papi (Stage Name) called me last night explaining that he lost his girlfriend’s ring at the beach. I had just finished dinner, poured myself a cup of coffee, and let him know I would be on my way.

When I arrived Lit Papi met me and showed me where they had been sitting and explained what happened. The area was not large, so I knew this would be a quick search. I searched on the one side of the area, finding only a nickel. I then began in the other direction, when after one pass, I got a good signal, put in the scoop, which now had the ring inside. He was happy to be able to get his girlfriend’s ring back. They would both sleep well now, I was sure.

I got a call from Alessandra, she had lost her ring in the sand at the beach. She had been sitting on her towel when a bee landed on her, she began swatting at it to make it fly away, and got up to flee the ornery critter. After the commotion she looked to see that the ring she had been given for graduation was gone. She had not left the area, so I told her I would be right over to conduct the search.

When I got to the beach, I walked out to where she said she would be, and as soon as she saw me began to wave me over. She then proceeded to show me what had happened, and how she ran. She was very helpful with the information she provided. I began my search, and after about 5 passes, I had her ring back on her finger. She was too young to grant me permission to use her image here, so you get me this time, as she agreed to take my picture. It was a pleasure to make her day!

Ana contacted me after she had lost her ring in the water at the beach. She had gone into the water, when a wave hit her, knocked her down, and her ring came off only to disappear into the wet sand. It was a ring her father had given her, so it meant a lot to her. When she contacted me the tide was coming in, and the best search opportunity would be the next low tide, so we arranged to meet at the beach the next morning.

When we met at the beach, Ana walked me out to the area of the loss, and showed me what had happened. I then got my equipment, set up and began my search. I was going into the water to make sure I was able to do a thorough search. I made about 20 passes, finding little, but some nails, and a few coins, until I got a good solid signal, I scooped and pulled out a nice gold ring which I held up for Ana, who was very surprised to see it again. It was so great to restore her joy!

I was in a meeting when Patrick called me about a search for his wife’s wedding ring. They were out celebrating their 2nd wedding anniversary the day before, when with a flip of the wrist her ring flew off of her hand, and into the soft sand to disappear. After some futile searching they went home, I am sure thinking this token of their love was gone forever. The next day Patrick found my number on The Ring Finders web site, and gave me a call. I told him that I would be able to do the search in the evening because of the meeting. He was not going to be able to meet me there, but gave some pictures of where the loss occurred, as well as a picture of what the ring looked like, and I told him I would let know if I was able to find the ring.

I got to the beach, and because of the pictures Patrick provided, was able to find the exact area of the loss. I set up and began my search. I found a few pieces of trash metal like tin foil and bottle caps. On my 4th pass I got a good signal, and dug. In my scoop was a real nice gold and diamond ring, but when I looked closer, I realized it was different than the picture he had sent to me, so I continued to search the area looking for his wife’s ring. I finished the search, and then called Patrick to let him know what had happened. I let him know I had found a ring, but not like picture he had sent me. He told me that he had found a picture on the internet of what he thought the ring looked like, and would ask his wife if she had a picture, and would send it to me. When I received the picture I realized that I had found the right ring, and let him know we had success. We arranged to meet the next day for the return. It was nice meeting them and being able to give this meaningful item back to them, and see their joy.

Lost Diamond Ring Westport, Massachusetts… Found!

  • from Westerly (Rhode Island, United States)

Lost Diamond Ring Westport, Massachusetts

A lost ring in Westport, Massachusetts, brought me to Horseneck Beach State Reservation. Adjacent to the cow farm I was hired to search, lie hundreds of acres of barrier beach and salt marsh. As I drove through, I quickly realize why this particular area is one of the most popular in the Massachusetts State Park System. Miles of pebble stone beach overlooking Buzzards Bay make this a one-of-a-kind destination for bird watching, camping, swimming, fishing, boating, biking, and many other recreational activities. After a couple of hours of driving and a bit of tourism, I finally arrived at the cow farm to search a tomato patch for a lost diamond ring. I was greeted by the ring owner’s parents and was provided a hand-drawn map of the landmarks and activities of that dark day when the ring was lost. The loving family’s effort to find the ring and the touching backstory gave me an unbelievable drive to find what is more than just a lost ring.

The Backstory

“Sam worked with his mom and my sister to create this ring for me – the stone he chose is my birthstone, aquamarine, it’s also the color of his eyes. His eyes are a window to his soul, and every time I look at the stone, I think about looking into his eyes and my gratitude for his soul EXPLODES (and all sort of other cheesy cliche things that my heart genuinely feels for this INCREDIBLE MAN).

Sam and I hiked a quarter of a mile into a rustic cabin that we’ve enjoyed staying at before in Hope, ME, last March, right around my bday. We trudged up in 1-2 foot snow to a cabin with no heat or running water. Sam decided to hike up in his flimsy. Sneakers rather than put his boots on. In retrospect, he worried about the ring falling out of his pocket in the process of changing his shoes. We got everything up to the cabin, started a fire in the woodstove, and we began to warm our buns by the fire. Then Sam turned to me and said, « Oh no, I forgot something down at the car. » To which I responded with, « Sorry, love, there’s no way we’re going back down there. » Then he said, « Oh wait, no, it’s right here! » and got down on a knee in front of the stove and proposed to me. We both cried and enjoyed a night of reverie. I had planned to propose to him the next day, and did! A joint proposal – something I feel captures our union and partnership, the desire to have the other heard and seen.”

The Search

Luckily, the ground was clear of vegetation and stalks due to the recent tomato harvest – ideal search conditions for a metal detector. Except for the single ginormous rhubarb plant right where the X on the map marked the location where the ring was taken off her finger and placed in her bra! No sign of the ring yet as I carefully searched in-between each rhubarb shoot. I got a few signals that turned out to be lead scraps, pull tabs, and coins moving on to the remaining garden area. All of these finds are evidence the ring could still be here, even though the family already searched with a rented metal detector. In the garden center, I heard a soft signal and brushed away the top layer of dirt. Ring found! Sitting just under the surface, I plucked the lost diamond ring from the soil and proudly waved in front of the family members like a winning lottery ticket! We rinsed and cleaned off the ring for a good photo. The mom and dad made a video call to their worried daughter and revealed the good news! I think there were tears of joy, but I couldn’t tell because my COVID-19 mask was fogging up my sunglasses, and I couldn’t see anything. Another lost ring reunited with its owner!

The Ring Owner

“In a moment of immense transition – I feel I need to slow down and take a moment to appreciate my partner, my community, and Keith Wille. Sam, the most thoughtful person who has ever existed, worked with his mom and my sister to create my engagement ring. He chose my birthstone, aquamarine, as the center stone. That color blue happens to be the color of Sam’s eyes – a color I now associate with deep conversations, compassion, seeking to understand, strength, conviction, joy, and love. I lost my ring in a tussle with a tomato patch a couple of weeks ago 🍅 Unsurprisingly, Sam was massively attentive to me, my feelings and assured me that our union lived far beyond the ring. While I appreciated his reaction and that attitude… I still wanted to be able to look at my finger and see Sam’s eyes there! My community rallied 💪🏼Even though I was no longer in physical proximity of the devilish tomato patch, Margot & Finn, my mom, my pops, Susie Dorr, and Greg all returned to the scene to comb through weeds, grass, and dirt to try to find the 💍 – an object they know is such a powerful symbol of partnership and union for me! GRATITUDE The ring remained a faux tomato despite everyone’s tremendous efforts. Enter Keith Wille 🙌🏽 The man is an absolute treasure, and he finds other people’s treasures🕵️‍♂️ My mom researched Keith and went to enormous lengths to get to my fated tomato patch. Within 10 minutes he found the ring! Thank you for your skills and talents, Keith, GRATITUDE  Once more, when I’m not with Sam, I can look down at my finger and find myself comforted by his compassion, strength, and partnership 💙 If you’ve ever lost a piece of jewelry that is near and dear to your heart, check out Keith’s website www.metaldetectionkeithwille.com.

Obviously, when I lost the ring, it didn’t impact our relationship, but the symbol of true partnership is very important to me! You’ve restored that symbolism for us :)”

The Parents

« Keith Wille saved us last Sunday. Our daughter lost her engagement ring while gardening in Westport, Mass. We rented a metal detector and spent two hours searching the dirt, the weed pile, and the paths on the grass, all to no avail. Someone suggested either renting a more professional metal detector or, better yet, a professional metal detectorist. My wife did a google search, and Keith’s name came up, along with a New York Times article describing his helping archeologists find a lost historic Native American community. Keith was readily accessible and was both hopeful and helpful on the phone. He even said, “If it’s there, I’ll find it.” Keith came the next Sunday and, in ten minutes, found the ring. And he has found many peoples’ valuables in the past. And what a nice guy, to drive from Groton, Connecticut, to treat us with dignity, and to share our joy in retrieving the ring. His equipment and technique were impressive. We recommend him highly if you are in the same situation.”

Lost Expensive Carbon Fiber JETSURF Hood at Leschi Seattle WA

  • from Mercer Island (Washington, United States)

SeattleRingHunter Lost Item Recovery Specialist LAND & SCUBA Call ASAP 206-618-8194

Here in Seattle we have had some really good weather and with good weather comes the water sports. Dakota contacted me seeking dive recovery support for an expensive carbon fiber lid he lost at the dock from his latest toy. We had a nice chat on the phone where he explained he had this super exciting carbon fiber surfboard that has a gas engine inside of the hull. However when he was moving the board around on the dock the lid came off, went into the lake and sank to 40 feet. The good news was that this just happened and they knew the drop zone precisely. The lid was brightly painted on one side and has a bright colored decal on the back side. Being rather large in size I had all the confidence that it would be a visual find on the surface of the silty lake bottom. I also learned that in all four corners there were metal latching pins on this part so if the silt got too aggressive I would have all opportunity to locate it with my metal detector as a backup plan.

As with many of these dock recovery missions there is typically a stock pile of trash and assorted items that fall into our water ways. Always a great opportunity for a dive in, trash out session as well.

Watch this exciting episode of the SeattleRingHunter Recovers Expensive Carbon Fiber JETSURF Hood.

Dakota was appreciative for the recovery work provided. Before I left the site he was already gearing up to get back out into the water for some more exciting JETSURF fun.

Cheers,

Jeff Morgan
