Lost Wedding Band Found Under Porch, Falls Church Virginia

Andrew emailed me asking for help to find a ring, not for himself, but for his friend Hazel. In January, Hazel was sitting on the front porch when her ring slipped from her hand and hit the wood deck. They were not sure if the ring rolled off into some bushes or slipped in between the boards. Andrew knew in his heart that the ring was there and it could be found. He had looked through the openings of the deck and around the bushes with a powerful light, but no luck.

When I arrived, I met Andrew and Mike.

Hoping the ring rolled or bounced off the low deck, I searched the bushes thoroughly with my AT Max. I found the usual hidden trash, but no ring. I then concentrated my search under the deck.

 

 

 

 

There were only a few inches of space to work. I detached my shaft and reached under the deck with my sniper coil. I borrowed a leaf rake from Mike as the one I brought was too large to fit under the deck. I heard targets and raked them out, then used my pinpointer to scan the debris.

It was then I had the pleasure of meeting Hazel. She remembered precisely how the ring sounded when it rolled on the wooden deck. From her description, I redoubled my efforts to search farther under the deck.

 

 

 

 

 

Found!

I stretched my arm and extended the coil to the limit when I heard a promising target. Mentally marking the spot, I used the leaf rake and pulled out more debris. I waved the pinpointer over the dirt and leaves and dug down to find the ring!

I got a call from Bella yesterday about the loss of her ring in the sand of the beach. Her mother had given her the ring two years prior, and it had a lot of sentimental value to her. She had put it in her bag, and sometime while removing things from the bag the ring fell out into the thick soft sand, and disappeared. I told her I would be there as soon as possible.

When I got to the beach, I walked out and found Bella and her friend. They showed me where they believed the ring fell out of the bag, and I could see the drag marks in the sand where they had been searching for it. I turned on the detector, and began my search. I found one piece of scrap metal, and then a couple of passes more, got a good clear signal, dug, and in the scoop was Bella’s ring which I immediately held up for her. She came right over very happy, and I dropped the ring in her hand. She seemed very relieved that I was able to find this gift from her mother. A great day!

Keith called me for a search of a church rectory and children’s play yard. The rectory had recent work, and they were worried about nails and other pointy things left over from the construction, and he also wanted me to check the play yard for dangerous items. I let him know this would be possible, and we arranged a time to meet.

When I got to the church, Keith met me, and showed me where to search. I began, and found that there were many deep items, but not much surface items, but I was able to find some around the rectory. After searching the rectory, we went over to the play area, where in the crumbled tire mulch that surrounded the equipment I was able to find many items that could have caused serious injury to the children. After I finished Keith seemed very happy to know that the children would be safer.

Lost Cell Phone Found After Fire, Fredericksburg, VA

April 20th, 2020. During the Wuhan virus pandemic. John called me to help find his lost phone. A few days prior, there was a fire in the wooded area behind his house.

What the fire looked like.

 

John assumed his phone fell out of his pocket while he was extinguishing the flames. To complicate the search area, the woods are bordered by a lake and the phone could have fallen into the water. The phone is precious to John because it contains many photos and passwords. He and his family searched through the ash for many hours, with no luck.

I packed up all the tools for land and shallow water detecting, and made the hour long drive. When I arrived, I put on my boots and followed John as he showed me the search area. As we were walking through the blackened trees and ash, I saw the phone next to my foot. I picked it up and handed it to John and asked, “Does you phone look like this?”

 

 

 

 

 

As you can imagine, John was in disbelief, and then elated. He couldn’t believe he had just walked past it. We went back up to his house and I could clearly hear his wife scream with delight. Although several people had searched the burnt ground for many hours, nobody else saw the phone. To me, the phone really stood out. I have a strong red/green color blindness. So, I have always seen things differently than most people. That may be why I saw the phone when others did not.

* ** When detecting on the beach it’s always disheartening to find a set of car keys that someone has lost in the sand. It makes me think of how much trouble the person had go through to get home and how expensive it was to replace the keys. I suggest that everyone put contact information on their keys and phones. I always turn keys to the lifeguards. Probably the best chance to get them back to the rightful owner.

I was approached by Norma while detecting at Newport Beach, CA.  She was frustrated because she had to check out if her beachfront rental before noon. (it was 11:45). That morning Norma had gone out for a little meditation session while watching the waves. She believed it was possible the keys we’re lost in that location.

We had one problem, she couldn’t get me on the exact location. I’m used to that situation because many beaches do not have good reference points. All sand looks the same. I like to remind myself,  don’t get excited when someone can’t remember exactly where they were sitting. I picked a location to start the process of elimination. Ten minutes later my metal detector hit a strong signal that turned out to be Nora’s keys. Another happy person that I was able to help because I was in the right place at the right time.

Lost Wedding Ring On The Beach At Pine Knoll Shores Found With Metal Detector, Returned

On Steven’s birthday (Friday), Steven’s family met up with two other sets of friends to celebrate the fact that all 3 families had children born last year and were planning to make this an annual family vacation.  Pine Knoll Shores, NC’s ocean beach was the site of the first celebration.  Steven did not want to chance losing his ring in the ocean so he placed it in a « secure » bag.  While packing up gear on the beach to head back to his car, he grabbed the ring bag and picked up his 8 month old and proceeded back to the car.  Once he arrived at the walkway over the dunes, he noticed the bag was empty.  Sunday morning, Steven had found TheRingFinders.com and contacted me.  I had the impression that Steven did not have much hope of finding his platinum ring now lost 2 days.  The search area was long and it took about 2 hours before the solid tone on my Minelab CTX-3030 metal detector warned me to stop and investigate.  Steven had just left to get his family something to eat but gladly returned to accept a link to his family!

Yardwork Claims Another Wedding Ring in Haddonfield, NJ. Found by Dave Milsted

Paul was doing some yard work in his backyard, pulling up ivy from around a shed and some trees. When he was done, his wedding ring was missing. He emptied the bags of debris he made and searched without finding the ring. His wife suggested to buy a metal detector and search for it. Paul instead searched the internet for a metal detecting guy and found me.

Paul called me today and asked if I could help him find his ring after a brief description of what happened. I told him I would be able to come over after work.

I met Paul, and he showed me the area. There is still a lot of ivy in the yard. He only thinned it out. He told me a little bit about his property. The front part of the house is an old mill built-in 1805. In 1906 they added an addition to the back of the building and converted the mill into a residence.

I started my search and immediately found a can pull-tab. The next signal within a minute was the ring. It was a large white gold ring with a nice design etched into it. Paul couldn’t believe how fast I found it. He spent a long time looking for it. I couldn’t see his smile, because he was wearing a face mask, but I could see his amazement in his eyes.

He told me that I could come back at a later date and search the property for artifacts, BONUS!!!

I love my hobby!!

When we received this particular phone call we could not have been happier to help out.  An Aggie ring is a very beloved item that ALL Aggies are proud of and loosing one is just unheard of, especially to a fish.  The depth of the water has much to do with rather or not scuba gear is needed and in this situation, our Garrett ATPro detectors were all that we needed.  The young man who lost his ring made a brilliant move by not panicking but took the time to mark his spot with a GPS locater.

**** George called me to see if I could help him find his wife’s wedding ring lost in a park or along the walkway to the park. They had taken a break from moving into a new home, walking a couple blocks to a local park with their young son. 

His wife Shirley had put her wedding and engagement ring in a pocket of the baby’s tote bag. George was helping by carrying the bag not knowing the rings we’re in the bag. After returning to the new house Shirley could only find the engagement ring in the pocket. The wedding ring was no where to be found in the bag.

It was already after sunset but I felt it was important to get to the location even if I had to return the next morning. Sometimes it’s not possible for the person to meet me the next day. I’m also haunted by a recent ring search in grass where the lawnmower crew damaged the ring before I could find it. The there is always a possibility of someone finding the ring when it’s lost in a public place, so timing is important.

George met me about 8 pm showing me about three blocks where the and Shirley had walked to the grassy park. Then at the park he showed me a huge area where he had played hide and go seek with his little son. All the time he had the tote over his shoulder. It was going to be at least 4 or 5 hours to cover the area if I didn’t find it.

He said his wife looked at some of the videos she took during that afternoon. She believed the loss occurred in a certain spot. I thought that was the only clue I had to help me decidwhere to start.  I told George, this large of a search area would probably require me to come  back in the morning but I wanted to give it a couple hours before the park closed at 10 pm. He had a long drive back and had to work the next day.. I had what I needed to know and told him I would update him by texting.

Sometimes you start in the right location.. This was one of those times. Shirley was right about where the ring might have fallen out of the baby’s bag. I got a perfect white gold signal in the grass with my metal detector. Looking down with my searchlight revealed the wedding ring glistening on the surface of the grass.

I called George with the good news. He was about half way home but turned around to meet me. Both of us were excited about the successful search. I didn’t get to see Shirley’s reaction, George texted me..

”Thanks you so much Stan! I just gave the ring to my wife can’t even tell you how happy she is, words can’t explain”

It might have been easier to do the search the next morning. I just don’t like to see anyone have to worry and lose sleep not knowing if they will ever see that most sentimental wedding wrong again.

…I found a new Cellphone in the dry sand at Newport Beach, CA. It was locked with no contact information anywhere on the phone. People should put their email address or another phone number somewhere on their phone. They might find out how honest people are if there is a way to return a lost phone.

When I returned home I was able to see Instagram message request on this phone. There was a email address from the person asking for permission to send a message. I sent that person an Instagram message asking him if he knew anybody that recently list a Cellphone Newport .

The guy got online and found Christie who had lost her phone. He past off my contact information to Christie and the next day she met me to retrieve her phone. Thanks for the internet and a guy named Oscar who took the time to search his last communications. To help get the phone back to it’s owner.
