Yesterday, I received a frantic call from Alexis, who was enjoying a day at Latigo Beach in Malibu with friends until a sneaker wave disrupted their fun. As the wave approached, Alexis and her group quickly moved their belongings up the beach. Unbeknownst to her, her wedding band and engagement ring, placed on her shorts, were lost in the sand. After realizing the loss at the top of the beach stairs, Alexis and her friends returned to search. They found the wedding band after an hour but couldn’t locate the engagement ring, even with a friend’s metal detector. That’s when Alexis made the smart move and called me, Dave The Ringfinder, for professional lost ring recovery in Malibu. We met at Latigo Beach at dusk, with the tide rising fast. The beach’s black sand and electromagnetic interference (EMI) from nearby homes made the search challenging. Using my Minelab Manticore, I worked quickly to avoid a water recovery. After about 15 minutes, I detected a solid tone, scooped the wet sand with my CKG scoop, and recovered Alexis’s engagement ring. Her excitement was contagious, and I was thrilled to help!Being a Ringfinder is incredibly rewarding—I get to be a hero for people like Alexis. If you’ve lost a ring in Malibu or anywhere from Santa Barbara County to Malibu, don’t waste time with rented or borrowed metal detectors. Gold Ring Lost in Santa Monica Backyard…Found and Joyfully Returned.

Alan called asking for help in finding a ring his wife had lost in their back yard. I was doing a search in a burned home in the Palisades at the time of the call, and told Alan I would be able to help him after I was finished.

When I got there Alan introduced me to his wife Ronnie, and she took me to the backyard showing me the area of the loss. It wasn’t very big, but the grass was tall and thick which would hide a ring easily. I began my search working the open area with no luck. Then I began working around some pots and pallets in the area. At the corner of one of the pallets I received a solid signal, put my pinpointer in, and found her ring. It had been her grandmother’s ring, and she became very emotional when I gave it back to her. It turned out to be a great day.

Yesterday, I got a call from Britany, who was in a panic. Her husband had lost his wedding ring during the Northern LA Boardriders October surf event at Leo Carrillo State Beach in Malibu. He’d stashed the ring inside his wetsuit for safekeeping while competing in the surf. After his set, he peeled off the suit on the beach, and the ring slipped out, disappearing into the dry sand. They knew the rough spot near the shore, so Britany reached out to me—the go-to metal detection expert for finding lost rings in Malibu’s sand and surf.
I headed to Leo Carrillo State Beach, just off Malibu’s stunning coastline, and met them in the sandy area where the ring went missing. With my Minelab detector, I swept the spot, and within a couple of minutes, I got a solid hit. A quick scoop in the dry sand revealed the wedding ring—safe and sound! I handed it back to Britany’s husband, and the day at Leo Carrillo was saved. Finding lost rings in the sand is my specialty, but I’m just as skilled at recovering jewelry from the surf, gardens, yards, or grassy areas around Malibu.
Whether you’ve lost a ring in the surf at Leo Carrillo, a necklace in a Malibu garden, a pendant in the sand at Zuma, or a bracelet in a grassy yard, I’m here to help. Tyler contacted me to tell me he lost his wedding ring in the sand at the beach. I asked if he was still at the beach, but said he had already left, and was on his way to a different venue. I had a previous scheduled appointment for the day my self, and would not be available until about 11:30 PM. I asked if that would work for him, and he said it would, so he sent me all of the information regarding the loss, because he was not able to meet me at the beach when I went.

I got home, retrieved my equipment, and ended up at the beach almost at the time I had given him. I let him know when I arrived, and would let him know when I would finish. I set boundaries much broader that the area he had given me, 1) because it was dark, and 2) because I did not want to miss any possibility of finding his ring. I began a grid from the top of the slope, and worked out on the beach. Pass after pass on a very clean beach, not finding much in the way of even trash metal. Then after about 9 passes, I got a good signal, dug, and had a ring in the scoop. I had not asked him what it looked like, so I sent him a text saying I found a ring, and asked him to describe his.  It was his ring. I then offered to drive it to him then, and he gave me the address. I got it to him, and he was very grateful, telling me that he and his wife were going to celebrate their 3rd wedding anniversary in 3 weeks. What a great feeling it is to be able to help people like Tyler.
