Cale, a South Carolina resident, contacted Houston Metal Detecting Services after losing his treasured Texas A&M class ring while visiting an Airbnb in Sargent, Texas.

While tossing a football with friends, the ball bounced into the water beyond the backyard bulkhead. Cale removed his shirt and watch before jumping into the waist-deep water but couldn’t remember whether he had removed his ring or placed it in his pocket.

Was the ring lost in the water or somewhere in the backyard?

We made the trip to Sargent the following Saturday and started searching the grassy area where Cale had left his belongings. It didn’t take long! His missing Aggie ring was found hidden deep in the thick Saint Augustine grass, nearly impossible to spot without a metal detector.

Another successful recovery, and Cale’s Texas A&M ring is now heading home to South Carolina!

Lost Wedding Band of 47 Years Recovered: A Davidson County NC Ring Find

On Friday, October 23, 2026, I received a text from Dana, who had found me through TheRingFinders.com. She asked if I could help find her husband’s wedding band. Her husband, David, had just realized the ring was missing and believed he lost it while doing yard work earlier in the day. He had worn it constantly for 47 years and was anxious to find it. They lived in Davidson County, between High Point and Thomasville.

I told Dana how sorry I was and that I would be glad to help. I asked how much of the yard he had worked in and whether he had been wearing work gloves, since rings often stay inside gloves when they’re removed. Dana said he had already checked his gloves, as that was his first thought. She explained that he had mowed a small area with the tractor and then loaded limbs and sticks into a trailer to dump in the woods behind their property, but she wasn’t sure how to describe the areas he had covered.

My phone then rang. It was David, who explained that while checking his gloves he had found a hole in the ring finger, large enough for the ring to slip out. He had no idea it was missing until that evening. He told me he had push mowed, tractor mowed, and hauled sticks into the woods, where he unloaded them by hand into a large pile. He had also blown leaves in the front yard and had no idea where the ring could be.

I had a hunch we would find it where he unloaded the sticks, since tossing them would involve the most force and the best chance for the ring to come off. We ended the call after he gave me their address, and I told him I would arrive first thing in the morning.

The commute was about 35 miles taking 40 minutes. I texted that I was on my way and would arrive around 9:00 AM. The GPS was accurate, and David met me as I pulled into the drive.
After introductions and handshakes, I gathered my metal detector and pen pointer and asked David to point out the areas he had covered and what he had done in each. We stopped just inside the woods, where he recalled emptying fireplace ash and scattering it around. That became my first search area, and it turned up nothing.

David then led me deep into the woods to a pile of limbs, leaves, and sticks covering an area of 20 feet by 10 feet, and 4 feet deep. I slowly detected the entire pile with no results. Because a ring could easily have fallen deep into the pile, far from the detector’s coil, we moved many of the larger sticks so I could scan closer.  Searched a second time, with negative results. After removing even more sticks and gridding the area thoroughly a third time, I was confident the ring was not in the pile.

Next, I started detecting the ground, beginning at the base of the wood pile and following the obvious tractor tire marks in the ground cover. About 10 feet in, I got a promising signal and found a can top. I explained to David that finds like this are common, and I kept searching. Five feet farther, I got another very promising signal. I looked through the ground cover and saw nothing, so I swept the detector coil over the area again and got a very strong signal. Using my pen pointer in about 6 inches of ground cover, I felt a bump and heard the telltale alerting sound. I spread the cover, and there it was.

I picked up the ring and asked David, “Does this look like your ring?” He seemed confused or thought I was joking at first and started walking toward me. When he saw the ring in my hand, his face lit up like a child’s at Disney. “I cannot believe it,” he said. “You found it, and I thought it was gone for good.” He immediately texted Dana to tell her the news.

A wedding band is so much more than just a piece of precious metal. It represents love, commitment, cherished memories, and the beautiful promise two people make to one another. When that special ring suddenly disappears, the emotional impact can be overwhelming, especially when the couple has only been married for a short time.

For Ethan, a visitor from Boston, Massachusetts, the unexpected disappearance of his platinum wedding band turned what should have been a wonderful trip into a desperate search for one of his most treasured possessions!

Ethan and his wife had traveled to the Washington, D.C. area to attend a wedding. During their visit, they spent the day exploring the nation’s capital before enjoying a bicycle ride to historic Old Town Alexandria, Virginia.

At some point during their adventures, the couple spent time at a nearby park, where Ethan enjoyed throwing a baseball around on a grassy field. Little did he know that this seemingly ordinary activity might have been the very moment when his precious wedding band slipped away!

After returning to the house where they were staying, Ethan happened to glance down at his hand and made a horrifying discovery.

His platinum wedding band was gone!

Immediately, panic set in. Where could the ring have disappeared? They had traveled throughout Washington, D.C., ridden bicycles, walked around Old Town Alexandria, and spent time playing on a grassy field. The possibilities seemed endless!

As Ethan began mentally retracing his steps, he remembered wearing a baseball glove while playing catch at the park. Because his wedding band fit somewhat loosely, he wondered whether the ring might have slipped off when he removed his glove.

But despite his persistence and determination, the search ended in disappointment.

He showed me his movements from point A to point B to point C, giving me valuable information that would later help guide my search.

Unfortunately, our time together was limited. Ethan had a wedding to attend that evening, which was the very reason he and his wife had traveled from Boston. I also needed to head back home as the afternoon grew later.

Rather than rush through such an important recovery effort, we agreed that I would return to the park another day and conduct a thorough, systematic search.

By that time, Ethan would already be back home in Boston, but I assured him that I would continue pursuing the missing ring.

Approximately four days later, I finally had the opportunity to return to the Alexandria search site.

This time, I came prepared to conduct a carefully organized search of the grassy field.

I established my grid lines, creating a systematic search pattern that would allow me to cover the designated areas methodically and minimize the possibility of overlooking the missing ring.

Before beginning, I connected with Ethan through a WhatsApp video call. I showed him the search area, explained how I had laid out my grid lines, and walked him through my plan for recovering his wedding band.

Even though Ethan was hundreds of miles away in Boston, technology allowed him to remain connected to the recovery effort!

With my equipment ready and the search area carefully organized, I began metal detecting.

Slowly and methodically, I worked through the grassy field, investigating signals and covering the areas Ethan had identified during our earlier meeting.

And then, after approximately an hour and a half of searching, something wonderful happened!

I FOUND ETHAN’S PLATINUM WEDDING BAND!

There it was, resting in the grass along the side of a small hill where the field began to slope downward!

Interestingly, the ring was discovered in the general vicinity of one of the locations Ethan had previously pointed out to me.

The mystery was finally solved!

After eight unsuccessful hours of searching on his own, followed by several days of uncertainty, Ethan’s treasured wedding band had finally been recovered!

What made this recovery particularly meaningful was the fact that Ethan and his wife had been married for less than two years. His platinum wedding band represented the beginning of their marriage and was undoubtedly one of his most important material possessions.

I couldn’t wait to share the wonderful news!

When I contacted Ethan and told him that I had successfully recovered his wedding band, he was absolutely thrilled!

His wife was equally excited. In fact, she candidly admitted that she hadn’t really believed I would be able to find it!

I can only imagine the relief and happiness they both experienced knowing that this precious symbol of their marriage had been found and would soon be back where it belonged.

For me, delivering that kind of news is one of the most rewarding parts of being a professional metal detectorist.

The following day, I carefully packaged Ethan’s platinum wedding band and shipped it via UPS to his home in Boston, Massachusetts.

Soon, the ring that had disappeared in a grassy field in Old Town Alexandria would be reunited with its rightful owner hundreds of miles away!

This recovery was another perfect example of why a systematic search strategy, professional metal detecting experience, and persistence can make all the difference between a lost ring and a successful recovery.

Even after someone has spent countless hours searching with a metal detector, that doesn’t necessarily mean the missing item is gone forever.

Sometimes it simply takes a different approach, the right equipment, and the experience to know how and where to search.

For Ethan and his wife, their trip to the Washington, D.C. area may have included an unexpected and stressful adventure, but thankfully, this story had a wonderful ending!

Lost Wedding Ring Found at a Seafood Plant – One of My Toughest Recoveries Yet!

I recently received a call from Ken, asking if I could help him find his lost wedding ring. He explained that he worked at a seafood processing plant, and the ring could’ve been lost in several different areas on the property. From the start, I could tell this ring meant everything to him, and even though the search sounded incredibly difficult, I knew we had to try.

It was a busy weekend, but since the property was secure and private, Ken was willing to wait until I had an opening. After finishing another recovery nearby, I contacted him, and we met at the location.

As we walked the area, I immediately saw how complicated this would be. The site was full of metal interference—boat trailers, screws, fishing traps, nets, machinery, and roughly 15 bushels of old clamshells from the day the ring was lost. Ken had actually saved all of them, hoping the ring might have ended up in one.

We searched everywhere: where he had parked his truck, walking paths, the processing floor, and around heavy equipment. Still, no sign of the ring. The sun was setting and the bugs were out in full force, so we called it for the night and planned to meet again at sunrise.

The next morning, we got right to work dumping and searching through the remaining bushels of clamshells. We even went through extra containers from floor cleanup the day the ring was lost. Still, nothing.

Not ready to give up, Ken remembered a second parking area he had used that day. As I swept my detector over that spot, I got a faint but promising signal. I moved a few shells—and there it was—his wedding ring. There was a much higher conductor laying right there, so apparently it masked the ring quite a bit.

To show Ken what had happened, I put the ring back in place and swung over it again. As expected, only the louder target registered. But once I moved the ring to a cleaner spot, its tone came through loud and clear.

This search was a true test of patience, precision, and experience—and I’m thrilled we were able to bring the ring home.

Lost ring on Forest Lake golf course recovered!

Sentimental value cannot be measured. This unfortunate incident was filled with meaning: Ron had been golfing when he put on his father’s ring — a ring given to him by his mother a few years earlier. His father died young and the ring had been tucked away and nearly forgotten until his mother found it and offered it to Ron. I got a call from a lady saying that she lost her engagement ring in Lake Huron at Crescent State Park in Michigan. My daughter and I traveled 2 1/2 hours to meet the couple. I got a call from a lady saying that her husband lost his wedding ring at Sanford Lake in Michigan. I met them both there to try to find it. The husband said he was in about a 75 foot long area along the beach in the water. He said that he didn’t go out farther than 30 feet. He was playing with his kids and crawling on the lake bottom. I figured that I would start at where he could crawl and keep his head above water.
