I was metal detecting with my brand new detector for the very first time, looking for some treasure. I found a 1958 Wheat Penny and soon after I was approached by Karen who asked if I could help find her lost ring. I explained to her that I belong to The Ring Finders and would be glad to help her. She told me she was visiting from Mexico and her Mother had given her the Ring. We walked to the area where the Ring went missing and I began my search. My confidence was high even though I was using a new detector because she seemed very sure where she had lost it. I found her Ring in about 10 minutes, Karen was very happy to have the Ring her Mother gave her back in her possession.

Lost Keys Found In Paihia Orchard (with some metal detector help)

Simon was collecting oranges in the orchard and didn’t realise until he got back to his car that his shorts had a car key-sized hole in the pocket.

A couple of days later he found me through TheRingFinders and I arranged to meet him onsite.

It was a huge area to scan, so I put my Search & Rescue tracking skills to work and retraced his meanderings in and around the trees – Made more interesting by the fact he’d been back the previous day for another look with a borrowed detector, which meant differentiating his original track from the fresher one. Good game!

I snaked my way through the trees following the two day old sign. Bruised leaves, broken stems or blades of grass under tension all reduced the search area to no more than a metre wide strip. These clues all led me to where he’d sought out the odd ripe fruit from random trees, retraced his steps, or just changed direction for no apparent reason, and right in the heart of the orchard where he’d finally filled the bag and turned to head back – were the keys, tucked under the grass.

It would have been a mammoth task to search the whole orchard without the advantage of being a tracker.

He was rapt, and more than a little impressed. Twenty minutes from getting out of the car, I was on my way home.

Sometimes, the eyes can be faster than the coil.

Lost Wedding Band in Baton Rouge, LA.- FOUND

Rob was cleaning out his gutters and slung his ring off into the back yard. He purchased a metal detector and tried to find the ring, without success. Locating TheRingFinders on line, he called us for help. We set up to hunt the next day. Carrie and I had a 20’ x 20’ area to hunt. Easy-peasy. Ten minutes and we reunited Rob with his wedding band. Thank you Rob for the generous reward.

Ring Lost in Whangarei, Eaten by Cow – Found!

Over the years, I’ve had my share of looking for rings lost while gardening, throwing things for the dog, or just being lobbed randomly during arguments.  This was my first hunt for a ring that had been vacuumed off a finger by a calf!

Luke made contact after reading of my successful hunts, and for me the story was too intriguing!  He had been letting the calves suck his fingers in order to keep them tame, and the hand came back minus the ring…

On the day in question, he hadn’t banked on the powerful combination of bovine slobber and suction!  Catch was, had it been spat out on the ground nearby,  chewed, swallowed and passed through the digestive system to turn up elsewhere in the paddock…or was it still in there?

He was very pleased to see me, and we headed straight out so he could show me where it all happened, also pointing out the calves that I could end up scanning!  The ground had been dry, which was good as it meant it was unlikely to have been pressed deep into mud – however the Autumn-flush grass was mid-calf (That’s my calf, not the cow variety) which was going to make it very hard work.

I started at the « Point Last Seen » and nosed the coil in and around the grass in the immediate vicinity with no luck, so I resigned myself to gridding about an acre of very lush pasture.

With my back into the corner of the wire fences, I took the first swing, and was immediately disheartened by the erratic threshold sounds of electrical interference from a buried cable. Not overly bad fortunately.  Second swing…. third swing and a golden tone rang through the headphones! I parted the long grass, couldn’t see anything.  Out with the pinpointer, it chirped away…but I still couldn’t see anything.

A slight change of head angle and a flash of yellow lit up in among the dead stems. It was already making itself very comfortable in there, and I was glad I didn’t have to use the rubber gloves 🙂

Knocked on the door of the house again, and was met by a huge smile when I held the ring up – That’s when I found out, it’s their wedding anniversary in just a few days.

Metal Detecting on Whangarei Roadside to Find Lost Ring

I was just doing a casual beach detect at a very small, unassuming patch of sand tucked away on Whangarei Harbour in New Zealand. It is the sort of place that would struggle to have 20 people squeezed into it on a busy summer day.

After I had been detecting for maybe thirty minutes, a beach-goer wandered up and asked if I would be able to find his wifes ring.  Quick background of,  « It fell off her hand outside the car as we turned at a junction, six months ago – I saw it rolling across the road ».   This was a new scenario for me!

I said I’d give it a go.

Packed up and followed the gentleman to the scene. I was envisaging a sea of can pull tabs, the usual metal detritus that litters the roadside, and possibly a flat and chewed ring.

When we got there, I didn’t have my usual high vis gear with me, so it was a very cautious operation to ensure neither I or the detector got clipped by a passing wing mirror as I nosed the coil in and out of the undergrowth and leaf litter. My helper made life easier by shifting all the crushed cans and foil packets he could – But there were plenty of scraps left for me!  After four to five minutes and another crumpled up bit of foil, I got a hint of a clean tone under one of the plants. I couldn’t get the beach coil in properly, so scuffed the leaf litter out into the open, and left behind, lying in the dirt was his Precious.

Happy faces all round back at the beach!  A quick pose for a photo, and I went back to where I left off twenty minutes earlier.

The beach smiled kindly on my good deed and gave me an old and ornate silver ring shortly after – This would have been lost well before there were RingFinders to save the day!

Toronto! Diamond Earring found! « Live Return » video

This is definitely one of the best Ring finder « Live Video » returns of the year.

One of the most difficult things to find are lost earrings with metal detectors! It takes a very specific detector and a lot of experience to locate such a finite piece of metal. The following story and amazing « Live Video Return » of the 1.5 Karat, near flawless Diamond earring is truly amazing! Finding this beautiful stone is a great example our commitment, persistence and experience here at Ringfinders!

I received a call from a woman who lost a very expensive diamond earring in the woods at a high end golf course just north of Toronto. Apparently while golfing she lost her ball in a small wooded area between 2 Fairways. The area was thick brush with a lot of branches and fall leaves on the ground . After the woman recovered the ball she remembered a branch grazing the side of her face on the way out. Once at her golf cart she noticed that one on the earrings that had been on her ear for over 20 years was gone!

The beautiful diamond was an anniversary gift from her beloved husband. Understandably she became frantic and went back into the woods on her hands and knees but could not find the beautiful stone. She notified the golf course and over a two-week period many of the Golf Course staff searched the wooded area for the earring. Trees were pruned, dead branches were cut and many individuals scoured the area for the earring with no avail!

After sometimes she decided to hire another detectorist to come out and look. Unfortunately after 2 days of thoroughly gridding the area  it was not located. At this point she gave me a call!

Along with having a very extensive repertoire of metal detecting equipment I am fortunate enough to be on the test team for one of the largest metal detecting companies in the world. Being on their test team allows me to have metal detectors that other ring finders and detectorists do not have and in the situation it greatly helped! Along with my extensive knowledge on finding very small pieces of metal and the right machine, I was extremely fortunate that day.

After arriving to the wooded area the woman told me the story. By this time she was completely exhausted and had given up all hope on finding the earring! I had told her this is only a matter of time and patience and I was quite sure that I would be able to find the earring for her. Unfortunately her face did not have as much confidence as I was hoping for and understandably. I started gridding the area with another detector but by this time the area looked literally like a minefield . Unfortunately no luck so I started testing the other ear ring that she still had on with my detectors. I finally found a prototype detector with a very specific setting I made heard it perfectly. At that point I literally walked over to the area where « I  » believed it had fell off and on the second swing got the beautiful signal I was expecting!

The following « Live Return » video shows the entire event and is one of the proudest moments of the year for me.

Lost Platinum Wedding Recovered in Towson, Maryland!

Early last month I was contacted by Rodney. I was able to help him recover his lost wedding band back in 2014. Unfortunately he was in need of my assistance once again. He had lost the same ring except this time it was lost in a different area and under different circumstances. The good news is we were once again successful in locating it! I’ll let Rodney tell you the story in his own words…..

 

It was a cold evening in December and I was attending a holiday party with family and friends.  I stepped outside to assist the host with some bags and in the process my wedding ring fell off into the snow in his front lawn.  I searched with flashlights that evening but was unable to locate the ring.  The next day I assumed we would have better luck and returned to my friend’s house to search for the ring as we knew it was in a very small area in the front lawn.  We crawled around the area digging and clawing for hours at the ground but were unsuccessful so I knew it was time to call in the experts.  I had used Jim’s service a few years back and was confident that if he could come out he would be able to locate the ring.  I reached out to Jim and we agreed to meet at the location a few days later.  When we arrived I explained the situation and the area where the ring was lost.  Jim got his metal detector out to begin to search.  Within a few minutes he was able to locate the ring within the area I showed him.  I am so thankful for Jim and his ability to assist with locating lost items.

Wedding Band found in North Malibu

Mike Hall called me on a Saturday night. He was pretty frantic; the previous evening he was eating at a restaurant in north Malibu by Zuma Beach and playing with his son after dinner in the sand, and his wedding band came flying off. It was dark out, so they did a quick search, but came up empty handed. I moved some plans around and met him out there the next day, Sunday evening, after traffic died down. It still took about two & a half hours to make the 80 mile drive. I got there, and Mike and his family were nice enough to save a parking spot for me right next to the sand. I asked him to try his best to remember exactly where he was in the sand when he was playing with his son, in relation to the parking lot, trash cans, and surrounding in general. I took out my Whites Duo Field Pulse machine and started to grid the area. I was finding many trash targets like small nails and bottle caps, but after more guidance from Mike and his son, I was able to narrow down the search pattern to a strip at the back of the beach just parallel to the cars. It wasn’t long before I heard a loud repeatable signal that sounded promising. One scoop, and there was Mike’s ring. He was elated and the whole family was jumping for joy. He then shared the story of the significance of the ring’s history. The ring had been passed down for generations, from his great-grandfather, down to him. What really touched my heart, was that his young son who was there, asked his dad, « How can I get married someday, dad, if the ring isn’t there to be passed down to me? »

Lost Engagement Ring in Snow… Found in Langley,BC

Dec.23 was our Christmas day with our Grandson and we were having a spectacular day playing with all the toys and watching how excited this little 4 1/2 year old was, it really really melted our hearts! Around 1 PM I received a phone call from a young lady who said that she needed my help finding a lost diamond engagement ring in the snow.

She went on to tell me that they were taking pictures of her engagement ring in the park and it fell into the snow and they couldn’t find it. Her fiancé bought a metal detector and search for approximately 3 hours with no luck. She went online and found TheRingFinders.com and contacted me to see if I was able to help.

I was already booked to go to Pemberton for a search but called and postponed that search till the next day…Good thing I did, because they found their ring in the house and not the yard were they thought they lost the ring.(saved me 6 hours of drive time there and back) I asked my grandson if it was okay that papa could go out and help find a lost ring for a young lady, he said it’s okay Papa you go find the ring.( He wanted to stay home and play with all his toys) I jumped in my car and in 40 minutes I had arrived and met the young lady in the parking lot and we went for 10 minute walk through a beautiful forest to where they had lost the ring.

I got to the location where I met her fiancé and we discuss the search, it took about 20 minutes and I found a beautiful diamond ring!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The young lady went back to her car to get something so we packed up and headed towards the car, we met her halfway in the trail. I had asked her fiancé if we could pretend we didn’t find the ring and that we were going back to my car to get batteries for my metal detector.

Then we surprised her with the ring! She was so relieved! I have the greatest job in the world I get to make people smile.

Lost Wedding Ring… Found in Mitchellville Iowa

I received an email from Betsy on September 27th saying she had lost her wedding ring in her yard. She told me that her husband had raked the area they thought it was lost in and they had borrowed a metal detector but didn’t find it.

So I was able to make it there today October 1st. After about 15 minutes of searching the area I heard a shallow low signal 12-05 on the CTX3030 and I found her beautiful white gold wedding ring!

I was very happy to help this nice young couple find this important ring. Thank you for the nice reward and good luck to all the ringfinders out there.
