Wedding Ring Recovered from Geneva Lake in Fontana, WI

Raul and his family were enjoying a day at the beach in Fontana, WI when his 14K gold wedding band was lost.  His family spent time in the grass, on the sand, and in the water.  Fontana beach is quite large, so narrowing down the search area was key.

On my way out I texted two fellow detectorists who may have been detecting this beach letting them know I was on a search and “Did they find any gold rings at Fontana’s beach in the last two days?”  “No,” was the reply.  When I arrived, another detectorist was in the water.  I waded out to Tony and asked the same question.  “No, only a quarter so far.”

Raul patiently answered all of my questions as we worked to pinpoint the most likely spot he would have lost it.  I marked off the edges of my search area in the sand and waded into the shallow water to make my first pass.  Dragging my search coil slowly over the sand, overlapping, so as not to miss anything, I had a strong repeating signal around the third or fourth pass.  I knelt down in the water and waved away the topmost layer of sand in the spot where my detector indicated a target.  Half of the ring appeared like a golden smile.  I picked it up and held it up to Raul who was standing on the shoreline.

It was the first and only target I dug that morning.  Raul carefully thought through all of my questions and that led to our success in finding the ring.

After a few photos, it was back on his hand and his smile said it all.

Later, Raul made a kind post on the Lake Geneva Lake Life Facebook group.  He writes: “A huge thank you to Seth for helping recover something that means so much to me and my family.  We are incredibly grateful!”

Engagement Ring Found: No Metal Detector Needed

Wednesday, 3:45 pm: Drew’s voicemail asks for help finding a lost engagement ring in his basement.  It’s been missing for a month.  Could I come and bring my equipment?

To my knowledge, there is no detector on the market that can only sense gold while avoiding all other metals, so metal detecting inside a house is almost a lost cause.  Copper wiring and pipes, nails galore, and household appliances have enough metal to immediately overload a metal detector.  I was planning on politely explaining this to Drew, and heading home after work.

Thursday, 4:00 pm: But when I called him and realized he was only eight minutes away, I thought, “Why not have a look?”

Thursday, 4:10 pm: I arrived about 10 minutes later and started talking with him in the basement.  I began ask

ing him questions about why his wife took off her ring, where she put them, etc., I said, “I should really be asking her these questions.  Drew replied, “We can try to Facetime her?”

Moments later, I was asking her any questions that would help me to see what she was doing in her basement a month ago when she lost her ring.

“Actually it was probably two months ago,” she added.  The more I heard, the less confident I felt about finding her ring.  Drew was attending to his 1 year old upstairs.

I continued to ask questions, and I was able to reconstruct what happened that night.

  1. She was doing schoolwork at a small round wooden table in the basement.
  2. She took off her rings (engagement and wedding band) as she was pregnant and they were getting tight.
  3. Both were set on the table.
  4. At the end of the work session, she could only find her wedding band… no engagement ring.
  5. She looked under the table, all around, nothing.

I asked one more question.  “Did you have a laptop bag or anything that it could have fallen into?”

Her reply was what I might have expected.  She had checked the bag she had with her at the time, but she could look again.

Before I could think of another series of questions to ask, she interjected, “I found it!”

I must have heard her wrong.  “You found it?” I replied.

Drew heard my question from upstairs, and came pounding down the stairs, asking me the same question, “You found it?”

Not me!  I said, and handed him his phone with his wife’s smiling face, a diamond ring in the corner of the screen.

Thursday 4:20 pm: I glanced at my watch.  It was about 4:20 pm.  “That’s the fastest recovery I’ve ever made!” I said.

Sometimes the difference between a lost item and a found item hinges on the questions asked rather than the equipment.  I own thousands of dollars of metal detecting equipment, have hundreds of hours of experience on land, in water, and underwater, but the right question can often yield the greatest results.

Quick Metal Detecting Recovery on the Beach

Sea Isle City, NJ is a wonderful place to relax with family and friends. Unfortunately, beach days can sometimes lead to lost jewelry.

I recently received a call from a visitor who had lost a wedding band while sitting on the beach in Sea Isle City. The ring had slipped out of a cup holder attached to a beach chair and disappeared into the sand.

The owner knew the general location where the ring had been lost. That information made all the difference.

Fast Response to a Lost Ring Call

As a member of The Ring Finders, I specialize in locating lost rings and jewelry using professional metal detecting equipment. When I arrived at the beach, I listened carefully to the details of the loss.

The ring owner explained exactly where the chair had been positioned. They also described when they noticed the wedding band was missing.

Those details helped narrow the search area significantly.

A Few Sweeps and Success

After setting up my detector, I began making careful sweeps around the chair location. The search area was relatively small because the owner provided excellent information.

Within just a few minutes, I received a strong signal.

I placed my scoop into the sand and lifted it carefully. As the sand drained away, a beautiful wedding band appeared inside the scoop.

The relief on the owner’s face was immediate.

If you lose a ring, necklace, bracelet, watch, or other valuable jewelry in Sea Isle City, NJ, don’t wait. Mark the area if possible and contact a professional metal detectorist right away.

Fast action often increases the chances of a successful recovery.

Every recovered ring has a story, and this Sea Isle City wedding band recovery is another reminder that lost doesn’t always mean gone forever.

Perdido Bay lost ring saves the weekend!

  • from Orange Beach (Alabama, United States)

Friday evening , I got a call from Annie in Lillian, Alabama. She and her brother Ben, along with several friends, had come down to their house on the water and spent the day on the dock and in the bay, having a blast. Ben, though, lost his wedding ring somewhere out in that water. They’d been out to chest-deep and deeper, playing around, so I met them on the dock to help. My wife joined me and sat on the dock with all the friends watching the show—she’s my lucky charm. I hit the water and it was definitely chest deep. I realized that it could be a long evening. Luckily though, not long in, I got a strong tone. A couple of scoops, and I had the ring. Everyone on the dock was celebrating. The best part was that Ben hadn’t even told his wife yet so as not to worry her on the drive down. This way he got to surprise her with the ring and an awesome story when she arrived and save the day and the holiday weekend. 😃👍

Edward Trapper NJ Ring Finder recovers Necklace on the beach in Manasquan New Jersey

Around noon, I received a call from Aaron who was extremely upset after losing a beautiful gold necklace at the beach. He explained that he normally kept the chain safely around his neck, but on this particular day he decided to place it inside his shoe while relaxing on the sand. Aaron told me they had set up near one of the beach access paths and, when packing up for the day, walked back toward the entrance on a diagonal line roughly 100 feet away. Somewhere along that walk, the necklace must have fallen out of the shoe without him realizing it.

Before calling me, Aaron and his friend spent a long time searching the area themselves. They dragged their feet through the sand and even brought down a rake hoping to snag the necklace, but unfortunately they had no luck.

I arrived shortly after and began searching by creating several small grid patterns, starting near the area where their towels had been laid out for the day. After clearing about four smaller sections without a signal, I started becoming concerned because we were getting very close to the dune crossover and had already covered a large portion of the possible search area.

Just a few moments later, I heard a very faint low tone — exactly the kind of signal you hope to hear when searching for a thin gold necklace. One scoop later, there it was sitting in the bottom of my scoop!

The relief on Aaron and his friend’s faces said it all. After spending so much time searching with no success, the situation completely turned around in an instant. Smiles replaced stress, and another valuable piece of jewelry was successfully reunited with its owner thanks to metal detecting recovery equipment and a systematic search.

If you lose jewelry at the beach, don’t give up hope. Many items can still be recovered with the proper equipment and experience.

How to find a lost ring, Bay Head NJ, recovered by Edward Trapper, NJ Ring Finder

Daryl reached out to me after a stressful afternoon at the beach when her Oura Ring suddenly went missing. The ring had been sitting safely on their blanket along with their other belongings while they went for a swim. But when they returned, it had vanished without a trace.

After going over the situation, it became clear what likely happened. The wind had lifted the corner of the blanket slightly, and since the ring had been near the edge, it must have slipped off and disappeared into the sand. They spent about 20 minutes searching the area, sifting through the sand with no success before deciding it was time to call in a professional.

I arrived shortly after and Daryl walked me through everything again, showing me exactly where the blanket had been positioned. Based on the conditions and his description, I had a strong idea of where the ring should be.

Within about a minute of starting the search, I got a very low tone on my detector—a signal typical of small, lightweight rings like an Oura Ring. One scoop into the sand, and there it was.

The look of disbelief quickly turned into relief and excitement as the ring was safely back where it belonged. It’s always amazing how something can seem completely lost, even when it’s just inches away.

Sometimes, no matter how hard you search, it takes the right equipment and experience to make the recovery.

Wedding Ring Recovered in Surf City, LBI – Recovered by Edward Trapper, NJ Ring Finder

  • from Lavallette (New Jersey, United States)

It was a beautiful holiday weekend at the Jersey Shore when I got a call from Mary Grace. She asked if I could help find her friend Scott’s lost wedding ring in Surf City on Long Beach Island (LBI).

Scott had taken off his ring to apply sunscreen while sitting at the top of the tide line. As the tide started coming in, they moved their setup back—forgetting that the ring had been resting on his beach chair.

We discussed the time and area of the loss, and rather than battle the evening crowds and traffic, I agreed to arrive early the next morning. Mary had sent me a Google Maps pin and a photo showing the exact area. When I arrived, I matched both references and began searching a 50-foot-wide path from the high tide line, across the slope, and into the dry sand.

Nothing.

I extended my search deeper into the dry sand—still no luck. I reviewed the map and photo again to triple-check I hadn’t made a mistake. Confident I was in the right spot, I called Mary Grace to see if she could come down to meet me, especially with the tide rapidly rising.

While waiting, I noticed the wave pattern pulling southward into a rip current, where the water had carved a small groove into the sand. Based on where the ring was likely dropped, it made perfect sense that it might have been pulled in that direction.

I shifted my grid search south. Just a few passes later, I heard a sweet signal on my detector—one that had me hoping it wasn’t just another pull tab. I scooped the sand and saw the glint of Scott’s wedding ring shining through.

It was a great feeling. I snapped a few pictures just as Mary arrived. She was thrilled that I was able to recover the ring and get it back to her friend. Moments like these are what make ring finding such a rewarding experience.

Find lost keys on beachMetal detector rental

Late in the evening, I received a text from Yunni asking if I could help locate her lost car keys. She explained that she had been at the beach the previous day, and when it was time to leave, she realized her keys were missing. Despite searching thoroughly before leaving, they had no success.

Since it was already dark and she had returned home, we agreed to meet early the next morning.

I arrived bright and early and reached out to get a better idea of where she had been set up on the beach. Based on her description, I created a search path leading straight out toward the water, where they had spent most of their time.

After working the area back and forth for a short time, I received a strong, clear signal. One scoop later, her car keys—with the key fob—were recovered.

Continuing the search nearby, I picked up another signal. This time, it turned out to be a small purse buried in the sand. Inside were all of her important belongings—credit cards, driver’s license, insurance cards, and even cash.

Shortly after, Yunni returned to the beach with friends and walked over as I was finishing up. She was surprised and extremely relieved—not only were her keys recovered, but also a purse she hadn’t even realized was missing.

This recovery is a perfect example of how acting quickly and hiring a professional can lead to the best possible outcome.
