Trip’s Mother came to town for Thanksgiving and presented Trip with her Father’s signet ring. Trip went to Coronado’s dog beach on Thanksgiving Day to give his dog some exercise, and while throwing a ball out into the water, the priceless heirloom flew off with one of his throws. I got the call later that day, but, the tide was already coming in, so, not a good time to hunt for it. We made arrangements to meet on Saturday afternoon to take advantage of a nice low tide. I met trip there at the beach where he showed me the search area…..about the size of two football fields. He was to take his Mom back to the airport that afternoon, so, he took off and left me to my task. I started gridding parallel to the water’s edge from mid-slope heading toward the water as I chased the tide out. After about an hour, I covered all the wet sand down to the water and decided to start gridding the other direction 90 degrees from the previous grid. This way, I could see my grid marks better and not leave any gaps from the surf washing away my marks. After a dozen or so passes from mid-slope to knee deep water, I get a great hit in ankle deep water…..reading 12-29 on my E-trac. Sure enough, I pull up a big gold ring matching Trip’s description. I make the fun call and find Trip and Mother are heading toward the airport. Both are very happy to hear the good news and Trip said he would return to the beach in 20 minutes or so. I cooled my heels while I waited by doing some more detecting until he got there. Right on time, I looked up and saw the happiest person on the beach! Trip came walking down with the biggest smile you could imagine. We took some photos and made it out in time to miss the coming rain storm. A pleasure to meet you Trip and thank you for the reward!
Tim called me on a Saturday morning as I was heading to the health club. I traded the gym bag for my detector bag and was on site in 20 minutes. He had lost his wedding band in the back yard 2 days before while playing with his daughter. He had put the ring in his pocket with his cell phone. He took out his cell twice in different areas of the yard. The areas where he removed his phone from his pocket were the first searched. After finishing the second area, I started a whole yard grid search. I had a not-so-great hit so I marked my grid line and searched the hit. Nothing there. As I turned back to pick up my marker, the ring was on top of the grass a foot from the marker. As I was on my knees, being that close to the grass made the ring a lot easier to spot.

Thursday November 17th Kevan was playing Rugby and lost his wedding ring, it was dark when he discovered it gone. The next day he returned with a friend and a metal detector, they had no luck locating the ring. His wife Juliane heard about me from a friend Christine ( https://theringfinders.com/blog/Don.Marshall/page/2/ ) I had recovered her husbands wedding ring 3 years before.
Juliane called me and I went to the park Friday afternoon, no luck. After getting more details I returned Saturday am and recovered the ring.
I received an email from Jason saying that his wife, Patrice, had lost her platinum engagement ring while playing with her kids in their back yard. She then bought a detector and tried to find it, without success. He was asking about my services and availability. I was able to start the hunt the next morning at 7:30. Patrice grabbed one of my detectors and helped with the search. The search area was not very large. It included a fenced back yard, a strip of un-fenced land bordering a lake and part of the neighbor’s back yard. About halfway through a grid search in the fenced back yard, I had a good hit and saw the ring, visible when the thick grass was moved. I was happy that the lake had not accepted the ring during their time fishing.

Lost and Found Ring
I had two of my past clients who jumped at the opportunity to tell their stories. I love it when people tell the stories from their point of view – they add so much to the story. As we all know, a ring is so much more than just a ring. Both Laura and Jon explain in the podcast why their rings meant so much to them.

Thursday evening, Paolo decided to go into the ocean, so, he removed his wedding ring and gave it to his wife Celine for safekeeping. Celine placed it on one of her fingers and waited on a berm in the dry sand for his return. As the sun was setting, they got up and left the beach. Once they reached their car, it was discovered the wedding ring was missing from Celine’s finger. They returned to the area where they had been, but, in the failing light and acres of sand, the search was fruitless. Fast forward to Tuesday when I received an e-mail from Celine who relayed the sad story and asked if I could help find it. We made arrangements to meet the next morning at 10am. Being several days later, I explained that many different fates for the ring could have occurred. It’s a popular beach for other detectorist to search, so, it could have already been found, the beach grooming machines usually go through the area early Monday morning, the high surf could have washed over the area and buried it, etc. I met Celine up on the boardwalk and we hiked down to the search area. She was a little uncertain of the exact area where she was sitting, so, I searched many spots one by one, eliminating them all. I then started running a grid from where she was sitting to the stairs where they exited the beach. After 4 passes and about an hour and a half, I finally got a likely sound and reading on my E-trac. One scoop and I pulled up Paolo’s ring. Celine was amazed that it was found, as, she figured it was a long shot. It was just a matter of time on this one. I was finding other good targets in the area, so, I knew nobody else had detected there. I just had to keep expanding the search area until I ran across it. They had been married for just a month, so, I was happy to get this ring back to them, so it can add another chapter in it’s story. Celine decided not to tell Paolo right away, but, instead to surprise him at dinner! I bet he will be!
Wedding Ring Lost while throwing mulch and planting shrubs in Katy, Texas (found) by John Volek
I was contacted by Brian regarding his lost wedding ring in the front yard of his residence in Katy, Texas, Brian advised he had been landscaping his front yard, throwing down new mulch and plant new shrubs when he discovered his wedding ring missing from his finger. Brian said he spent a hour or better looking for his lost ring in the front yard, but was unsuccessful at finding it.
Arrangements were made to search for Brian’s lost ring the following day, and the point of contact would be his daughter Ashley. You can see from the smiles on Brian’s daughter and son, it was a good out-come.

Chris was fly fishing in the Sooke River outside Victoria B.C. On Saturday October 15th, he got a fish on and was fighting this mature Salmon when he felt his Wedding Ring fall off. Now this is bad news but it gets worse, Chris was a newly wed only 7 weeks married and he losses his wedding ring.
Monday Chris did a Google search and came up with my name on THE Ring Finders web site.
We arranged to return to the River Tuesday at noon. After a short hike and a wade in the river, I got that strong tone, FOUND IT!
Chris screamed to the other fisherman, we found it, everyone was in shock. I so love my job!
Waylon called me Thursday around noon to ask if I could help him find his wedding ring. Apparently while throwing some sticks and debris into the woods he felt his ring slide off of his finger and actually caught a glimpse of it as it sailed into the brush! After searching the area he soon realized he needed the help of a metal detector. He rented a cheap detector and searched the area but only found a few cans and bits of metal. And after 13 years of marriage and a wedding anniversary coming up in December, Waylon was anxious to find his ring.
When I asked for an address of where I could meet Waylon, he mentioned the area where he lost his ring was a new subdivision and he decided to drop me a pin of the exact location. Google maps is an amazing feature and an hour later I arrived at the site. It took me a few minutes to find the side walk and wooded area where Waylon had searched for his ring. I set out 2 flags and fired up my DFX. I usually search in Coin and Jewelry mode and have a fairly good idea of what my detector tells me when I go over different kinds of metals. My first pass was in the grass and my second pass was just into the edge of the woods. There were thick clumps of grass and brier bushes with sticks and weeds. I figured if I do not find it in the second pass then it could turn into a long tough search–as the bushes only got thicker and more of a tangled mess! But as I was ending my second pass I got a good signal. So using my trusty Garrett pro pointer, I scraped the dirt to see how deep the item was and as I brushed the dirt aside there was Waylon’s ring pressed into the ground.
As I picked up the ring and cleaned it off I realized that I had not gotten a good description from Waylon as to what exactly his ring looked like. So in a text I asked him to describe his ring. Sure enough it was his ring. I changed my boots and got some water to clean his ring and then sat down to wait for Waylon to arrive.
Fifteen minutes later Waylon drove up and I presented him with his ring!
What an honor and a pleasure it has been to help Waylon and his wife! And I encouraged him to get that ring resized and have an early Happy Anniversary!
