Lost Diamond Ring, Kits Beach Dog Park…Found!

I got a call last night from a young man who said his wife had lost her wedding band possibly at Kits Beach Dog Park. I asked my standard questions to see how certain they were of the location and after talking for a few minutes we set up a time to meet the next morning at 8 AM, when I got there the tide was high and very close to the logs. When I met Dave and Stephanie they showed me the area that she was petting dogs and it was the front logs closest to the water, unfortunately she also pointed in the water saying she had stepped away from the log and was standing over there when the tide was out. This would put me in about 3 feet of water if the ring wasn’t found in the dry sand. Nothing like a cold dip in the ocean but I was prepared to go in and do a search if needed, fortunately I found her beautiful ring close to the logs where she was sitting petting the dogs. This ring meant the world to Dave & his wife because it was a gift from his uncle, Dave’s uncle sadly passed away last year due to  COVID-19 and as you could imagine finding this ring was extremely important to both of them. I absolutely love what I do! I’m extremely proud of my directory and the members who have joined to do exactly what I’m doing here in Vancouver and that’s helping find peoples lost smiles & helping continue the stories to these wonderful and sentimental items.

Long lost ring, Secrete Lake Park, Casselberry, Fl….Found 19 years later!

Here is a text I received from Gissele on February 21st at 9:55pm.

« Hi Mike, I found your info on theringfinders.com. This is a complete long shot but I lost my promise ring at Secrete Lake Park in Casselberry. Back then there was a little Karate studio in the back of the park. I left my son while he was practicing and took my young daughter to go to the playground. We were crossing through the field/baseball field when my ring slipped off my finger and I can only describe it as being swallowed up by the grass. It is not expensive and has a small diamond mounted on it. I mean I lost this years ago….like in 2002! I just recently moved away, to El Paso, Texas, but have always wondered about my ring. I even tried using a metal detector and was not able to find anything. Thank you for your help. Gissele »

I answered her email right away and agreed whole heartedly that it would be a long shot but not totally impossible. I asked allot of questions like, What was the ring made of? Was it a small, medium or thick band? Were there any markings on the inside?, etc. I then sent Gissele an aerial screen shot of the baseball field and asked her to put a line where she walked and an X over the area where she lost her ring. She assured me that her ring was made of 14k gold and was a thin band. The fact that it was a smaller ring gave me hope that it was very likely still there, in the ground, waiting to be found.

You see most people who metal detect parks and school yards rarely dig those low numbers. Many times the smaller rings will sound and read the same as a pull tab or even lower, like that of a small piece of aluminum which we call « can slaw ». (Can slaw are the small pieces of aluminum that get spread all over as a result of a lawn mower hitting a can and shredding it into small pieces).

Armed with that encouraging information I headed to the park and set out my corner flags and began my tight grid search. For 3 hours I dug everything that sounded close to what a small gold ring would sound like. Rain drove me to take shelter for 20 minutes and then I continued my search. It was getting on to sunset and I was thinking of calling it a night when all of a sudden the complex turned on all the lights and it was like daylight again. With renewed energy I decided to give it another hour and moved my flags closer towards 3rd base and the short stop area. I was using my Garrett ATMax metal detector in the ZERO MODE and had blocked out all signals from 65 and up and had set my IRON DISCRIMINATION to ignore anything below 25. My final signal registered 47 on my display and showed the target to be four inches deep. I thought, Wow, that sounds really good and I carefully dug a neat plug. It was a wet muddy clump of dirt and I used my pin pointer to narrow down the targets hiding place. As the ring revealed itself I was in a great position, on my knees, to thank God for helping me to uncover Gissele’s precious lost promise ring!! The thrill, the joy and relief of being able to have actually found her ring was something that I will never forget!

I sent Gissele a quick text and explained that I had gotten out to do a search and had found a few things. Then I waited a few minutes and then sent her two photos!! Oh, and did I mention that Gissele now lives in El Paso, Texas and lost her ring 19 years ago?!!!

I got a call last night from Nick saying he was out looking for a turkey hunting spot when his leg fell into a rotted out tree stump and his ring came off. He saw it come off, but quickly lost it. He tried to move leaf by leaf it hopes to find it. With no such luck, he went to the local Walmart and bought a bounty hunter. Took it back out to the site and scanned the area. Again, no luck.

He then sought help from « The Ring Finders » and I came out to help him locate his lost ring the next day. I scanned the area and didn’t hear anything either. I then took my pin-pointer out and stuck it in the rotted stump hole and got a hit. I received a call about a lost white gold diamond woman’s ring set. The set was lost in the snow and was unable to find it about three weeks early.

During that day when she lost her rings, she had visited many other locations, she had made many phone calls about her missing rings at the other places of business with no luck.

After metal detecting two other locations close by with no luck, the last place we looked, there was the rings. Found one then the other close by.

She was very happy to have her rings returned to her.

Cassidy’s mother contacted me asking for help in searching for her daughter’s lost rings in the snow. Being that I was a bit delayed and that they already had rented a metal detector I happily provided a lot of tips over the phone on how to search their small neighborhood play park. Cassidy’s dad did all he could do with the rented machine through the cold snow but was not able to locate either of his daughter’s lost rings.

When her grandmother passed away these rings were handed down to Cassidy. It was obvious these heirloom rings hold a deep sentimental value by the whole family. She shared that she basically ran out into the fresh snow and threw one snowball bare handed then walked a few feet over to grab some more snow when she realize both rings were missing one from each hand! It’s quite possible she may have shook her hands a few times after that first throw to clear the cold snow from her bare fingers. These actions along with cold weather are notorious conditions for rings to get flung off the hand. Where rings land quite often can be quite a mystery and very difficult to locate without the proper recovery equipment and experience.  

It was a few days before I could arrive and the family did all they could with the rented metal detector with no success. It was now day number four and I’m quite sure each day up to this point the family continued to look nonstop. At this point the snow had pretty much melted away with a few patches here and there. Cassidy was rewarded for her efforts and did spot one of her lost rings a brilliant platinum diamond wedding band. It was found in the park grass where a snow man was previously. She had found it just a few hours before my arrival however the other ring a rose gold diamond wedding band was still missing in action. At this point the rented metal detector had been returned and the family was at a loss as to where the other ring hiding in the park.

After a short bit of time working the grass I got a hot signal that I had been looking for. Under a patch of snow I pulled Cassidy’s second ring, a rose gold diamond wedding band, from the ground. Undamaged and ready to be placed back safely on her finger. Got a call out on a weekday evening.  His daughter slipped  while climbing an embankment and both of the silver rings her father had given her were gone off her finger. While she was dancing, he contacted me and within the hour, the rings were back in hand. Relief all round. Watch the video for details.

Two Sets of Lost Keys in One Day in Calgary

I received two calls today. The first call came from Natasha. She was late for her massage appointment. She put her keys in her pocket and ran the three blocks. Since I was not busy and lived only minutes away and I told her I would take a look.  I searched the route she took and checked the soft snow along the sides. My gut instinct was that they were most likely picked up.  The more I thought about it, the more likely it was that they were close to home. We headed back and I searched where I thought they would most likely be. While there, the front door of the nearest home opened. A gentleman asked what we were looking for.  Natasha described her keys to him, after which he turned to go back inside and returned with her keys!!! Success sometimes doesn’t come with the detector.

The second call came around 3:30 pm. Ali had lost his keys while sledding down a hill on Friday. It was Monday.  After chatting with him, he had done everything right. From immediately searching, to checking places where someone may have placed them if they were picked up. From what he described and what he did it seemed very likely they were there. We just had to find them. Ali described three places where he wiped out on the sled. Both of us searched the hill in detail. Ali remembered that his brother had videoed some of the runs, including two where he went off to the side and bailed. We watched and were able to narrow down the search areas. After two very loud beer cans, we searched the second crash site.  I mentioned that very often, after searching and checking a variety of signals, I would hear “the” signal. When that happens I stop and stand up.  Moments   later I got another signal. I let Ali dig it.  Sure enough, there they were. Ali was ecstatic.  He stopped and said, “Funny, you just stopped and stood up” .

Lost Grandmothers ring found in East Providence RI.

It was late afternoon when I received a message from a very upset Allison.  She had lost her grandmother’s ring while playing with her dog in the snow at a local tennis park. At some point, she removed her gloves, and the ring fell off into the snow.  She didn’t know where the ring fell off.  Allison and her wife tried to find the ring but didn’t have any luck.  They even bought a metal detector and couldn’t find it.  Allison then turned to the internet to see if someone could help her find her grandmother’s ring.  That’s when she found TheRingFinders website and contacted me.  I responded that I would help and was on my way.  When I arrived at the park, it was dark.  I started my search with Allison holding a flashlight.  I walked about 20 feet, and the first target I hit was the ring.  She was very happy to have this family heirloom back.
