II received a call from a young lady who had lost a safety deposit key. She thought she was holding an old key that was no longer usable, but her sister had given her the good key instead. As she was driving down the street she was thinking about the key and decided it was no longer needed, so she threw it out of the car window. It wasn’t until she contacted her sister later that she found out she had thrown out the much needed key.

When I got there she met me and told me all that had happened, and showed me the median. It was about 4:00 PM, on a weekday with a lot of traffic from people getting off of work on their way home. The median was no more than 8 feet wide, so checking on the tones that were on the edge would put me within inches of passing vehicles. The area was about 100 feet long, and I needed to make sure I covered to whole area because she had been moving, and the key most likely bounced when it hit, and was in an area further along from where it had been released. Fortunately she had another key similar to the one that was lost, so I was able to get a reading off of it to know what I was needing to hear. I found a lot of different types of metal during the search, and it wasn’t until neared the end of the median that I found the key underneath the grass. When I brought it back to her, she was very relieved and happy to have it back. Glad to have made her day.

Wedding Ring Lost on Santa Monica Pier on Day of Couple’s 2nd Wedding Anniversary…Found Joyfully Returned.

I received a call from Souja, she had lost her wedding ring on the Santa Monica pier. She and her husband Martin are from Austria, and were in Southern California celebrating their 2nd wedding anniversary, and this was the exact day. Needless to say she was very unhappy about the loss. They were scheduled to leave the next day for Northern California for the rest of their vacation and then home. They could not imagine leaving with out her ring; they had matching rings. I let them know when I would be there, and was on my way.

When I got there Souja and Martin with their little one, met me and showed me what had happened. They had been at a food vendor on the pier when her ring slipped off of her finger. She said she watched it drop, and heard it hit the pier, but it was gone in an instant. They looked all over the pier with no success, and then surmised that it possibly slipped through the boards into the sand below, so they went below and searched some more. Martin went up and dropped some coins through the boards of the pier to see if he could find them, and was able to, but not Souja’s ring. They searched for a total of about 3 hours. They found me on The Ring Finders site and called, pretty discouraged by now. I agreed that the possibility of it having gone into the sand was better than it being up on the pier, so I began the search under the pier. I began my grid, and found a dime, a penny and a piece of trash. I was on my second pass, when I got the tone I was looking for, I dug, and in my scoop was Souja’s wedding ring. I reached in and held it out for her; they were so surprised. The pleasure of being able to help people with their lost items has not diminished a little; check out those smiles. What a great day!

Wedding ring found Williamsburg, Michigan lost throwing hay to the horses

This adventure started with a call from Tim saying he lost his Wedding ring after throwing hay over a fence to the horses. He said he has been married 27 years and would very much like to get the ring back. Tim and his wife had been looking for the ring for 4 days with a $50.00 metal detector they just purchased to try to find the ring. I told Tim I’m not trying to be rude or hurt your feeling but you are wasting your time with that approach. He told me that was exactly what he wanted me to say and when did I want to come to look for the ring. We still had a couple hours of daylight so I told him I could be on the road in fifteen minutes. I was thinking in my head « Horse + Hay = BRING THE TALL BOOTS » then explained some of the basic metal detector operation and why you needed a better detector and someone who knows how to use it. I can do two things tell you where the ring is not at or find the ring.

Fifteen minutes later I was loaded and headed to Tim’s house. When I got to the house Tim showed me the area he was getting the hay from and the three different spots he threw the hay over the fence. He has three horses he was feeding for the night. He did not realize the ring was missing till he was in the house getting ready to go to the neighbor’s house Saturday night. To myself, I’m thinking we don’t have an exact location it was lost but no big deal the area is pretty small. So I started the search and search I did. I searched the hay storage area twice the path he walked on twice and the area on both sides of the fence twice. So after about 2 hours in I was scratching my head on what to do next. I made a decision on grid searching the complete corral area then calling it a night. I had already told Tim I would return Saturday if I did not find the ring tonight. I switched the coil on my CTX3030 to the big 17-inch coil to cover the area faster. I was on my second pass and got a great sounding target but it was 4 inches down. Was thinking to myself the ring cannot be 4 inches down the ground already it is starting to freeze. Either way that sound needed to be investigated further. I ran up to get my raptor digging tool out of my truck, so, I could dig a big piece of the soil out, not do any damage just in case it was the ring. I had the ball of soil in my hand broke it apart and the ring appeared. I almost fell over thinking that is a big chunk of gold I was not expecting. I had only asked Tim what the ring was made of and if it is a small band or a wider one. Well, I cleaned the dirt off stuck the ring on my finger over my glove held my hand up in victory. Tim came out of his truck to see what I was doing, so, I yelled I have the ring. He ran over grabbed the ring off my finger and gave me a big hug. At that time his wife Deanna just got home and he gave her the news. She asked me where I found the ring then gave me a hug thanking me. The ring was out in the corral about 30 from the fence. Tim and I talked for a minute on how the ring could have gotten that far out. I think it got stuck on one of the horse’s hooves and got carried it out that far and he agreed that something like that happened.

I had a great time with Tim and his Wife Deanna they are both great people to talk to. As I was packing up to leave Tim mentioned he was amazed his wife said there are people that will come and look for your ring. He did an internet search and one of my blog posts came up first. He called me and got his ring back the same night. I told him my stuff is always ready. I can be loaded and on the road in 15 minutes if needed. I went home cleaned the horse droppings off my coils put the battery on the charger ready for the next adventure.

LOST ENGAGEMENT RING IN BREAUX BRIDGE, LA. – FOUND

After Brennon and Alyssa rode their 4 wheeler along the muddy trails, they decided to call it a day. They parked at the area used to wash off the four wheelers and themselves. While washing her hands with a hose, Alyssa felt her engagement ring slip off her finger. They and other riders hunted for it from 8 PM till midnight with no success. The next morning they returned with a newly purchased metal detector to continue the hunt. After finding only foil, pennies and pop tops, Brennon looked at a YouTube video for hunting hints. He saw a “The Ring Finders” decal on a car in the video and went to our website. We got the call from Brennon on Sunday morning. Carrie and I were able to load our equipment and be on site in 1 ½ hours. The hunt area was relatively small but had quite a lot of trash. It was hard bottom with dead matted grass covered by 2 to 4 inches of mud. After 20 minutes of getting everything, including us, covered in mud, Carrie found the ring, tangled in the grass, under the mud. After some happy tears and pictures (and washing off mud from us and our equipment) we were heading home feeling great after reuniting Alyssa with her beautiful ring.

Bryan contacted me the other day regarding the loss of a pendant he wore around his neck. He had been playing football in the sand at the beach, when as a result of an attempted tackle, the necklace that held the pendant came apart, and the pendant was engulfed by the sand. He told me that it had high sentimental value, and it would mean a lot to him if I was able to find it. I let him know that I was on my way, and would let him know when I arrived.

When I got to the area, I began walking out on the sand, and Bryan met me and walked me over to the spot of the loss. I could see where he and his friends had been combing the sand with their hands and feet. We talked about what had happened, and how it happened, so that I had a good idea of where I should begin my search. I also asked what I was looking for, and Bryan said, « a silver bullet ». I began a grid, and worked it to the outer edge of where they had been searching. I did not find the « bullet », so I began searching the other side when I got a strong signal and dug. In the scoop was a key, and as I usually do I held it up for Bryan to see, and let him know it was just a key. I was getting ready to put into my finds bag when he came up and said, « wait, that key was also on the necklace ». I then ran the detector over the spot again with another good signal coming through. I scooped again, and in the scoop was a cylindrical shaped pendant, but not a bullet. When I pulled it out Bryan got so very emotional and said, « You have no idea what this means to me », so I asked if he would let me know. He told me his father had passed away a couple of years ago, and this cylinder held a portion of his ashes. At this point I realized how important this recovery was to Bryan. He was so relieved, and I was very happy to have been able to help; a great day!

Keys found in Chula Vista

Angela called me to help find her lost keys. It was dark, she and her husband were outside his car in the parking lot where they lived. Angela attempted to throw her keys over to top of the car to her husband on the other side. The keys didn’t make it! They hit the top of the car and bounced somewhere. They searched the parking lot, sidewalk, and landscaping the best they could in the dark using a flashlight, but, didn’t have any luck. They searched again the next day, even cleaning out dead leaves and branches from the bushes along the sidewalk. Still no luck. Next in the process was to buy a metal detector and try again. They had « fun » removing everything imaginable from the ground cover and bushes, but, the keys just wouldn’t speak up. Eventually, they heard about The Ring Finders and gave me a call.

I met Angela at the parking lot around noon and got the low down on how the keys were lost. I started by searching all the ground area in and around the bushes and all along the sidewalk. No luck. I ran the coil over the surface of the bushes and even in the overhanging tree branches, but, still nothing. Next, I started at one end and started shaking all the bushes as hard as I dared, hoping to hear the tinkle of keys or to hopefully convince the bushes to let go of them. We made it all the way to the other end without success, but, while walking back toward where we started Angela looked down and spied them right under the corner of one of the bushes. Yes! Don’t know how we missed them at the time we were at that bush, but, hey, they’re now back where they belong, so, that’s what counts. A very happy Angela called her husband with the good news and both gratefully thanked me. A pleasure to meet you Angela and thank you for the reward.

Diamond and Platinum Wedding Ring Lost in Torrance, CA School Yard…Found ad Joyously Returned.

Aki called last night very concerned. Her wedding ring had been lost at her daughter’s school, in the sandy play area. I found out after arriving that her very young daughter had taken her ring with her to school to wear, and while she was in the play area, lost it while swinging her arm. I was close, and let Aki know that I would be there soon, and left.

I got to the school, and met Aki and her daughter. She took me over to the area where the ring had been lost. I then questioned the daughter to find out exactly had happened. She rehearsed what she did, and how the ring was lost, so I began my search. I searched all of the area that I was shown, and went over it a second time to make sure I had not missed anything, but found no ring. I then expanded my search further and further out. I went to the left side and then to the right, but no ring. There was a lot of iron in the ground that was making the search difficult. I expanded out further and did an extra one over to the expanded area. It was getting dark, and I had done the area pretty well until in between the iron I heard the good signal. I scooped up the sand and there in the bottom of the scoop was Aki’s ring. It was too dark for Aki to know I had found the ring, but I reached in and walked it over to her, holding it up so she could see it when it was within eyesight. As soon as she saw the ring she brandished a big smile, but then was overcome with emotion, she was so happy. To give so much happiness and relief to someone is such a pleasure!

Rose Gold Wedding Band Lost at Hermosa Beach, CA…Found and Happily Returned.

Brad called the other day about his lost ring. He, his wife and some friends were at the beach throwing a football around. When it was thrown to him, he reached out to catch it, and the ball hit his hand and his ring went flying. They searched for quite sometime before calling, but I was able to leave right away to get there to perform the search.

When I arrived, I found Brad, and we talked about what had happened. He showed me the area, the way he was standing, and the direction the ball had hit his hand. Looking over the sand I could tell there had been a lot of digging for the ring. I began my search, not hearing any signals (this beach is sifted daily by the county, and very clean), but continued my grid. Finally on my second pass, I got a signal, and in the scoop was Brad’s ring. I reached in and then held it up for him to see, as he came running over with his wife. She looked at me and with a glint in her eye said, « it was a good thing you found the ring, I was getting ready to file an annulment », and then laughed. I found out they had only been married 2 months, so this loss would have meant a lot to them. So happy to have made their day!

Broken Mercedes Key Lost at Venice Beach, CA…Found and Returned.

Alfonso called, and explained how he and his friend Robert had been at the beach, and lost their car key. it was Robert’s key, and the only one he had. In fact they told me that it had broken off of the remote, and was just the key with no « handle » to grab onto. What had happened was, they were going to go in the water, so Robert placed the key in his sock, which he never did. When they left the beach after shaking the sand out of their clothes, and got back to the car, Robert realized the key was gone. It was about 5:00 PM, and the private parking garage the car was in closed at 6:00 PM, so they hurried back to find the key but to no avail. They lived a considerable distance away, so they had to rent a hotel room for the night and were going to find a locksmith in the morning to help them. After they were quoted over $600 to cut a new key, and that it would take a couple of days, and also that the parking garage manager said if the car wasn’t removed by the end of the day he would have it towed, they searched the internet, found and called me. I told them I would be there in 45 Minutes.

When I got to the beach Robert and Alfonso met up with me and took me out to the spot they had been the previous day. They showed me what they did, and where they had been sitting. I then started my search. I gridded in the direction I was first shown, and would go in the other direction when I had completed my first grid. After about 15 minutes, and a few bottle caps, pennies, and foil, I got a good signal and had the key in my scoop. I held it up to an overjoyed Robert, who now knew he was going to be able to get his car out of the parking garage, and go home. Yes needless to say he was very happy. It was great to see two happy smiling faces!
