Found…100 Year Old Prescription Glasses

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)
100 Years Old

100 Years Old

Most of the time I’d get called out to search for a lost ring, but on this day ,on my own time, I went to English Bay Beach just after the Polar Bear Swim to search the low tide…January 1, 2013.

On this nice but cold evening when the tide went out it exposed many pairs of prescription glasses, in total 15 pairs were found that evening. One in particular was a pair of spectacles that I found buried completely in the sand. Because of the amount of  prescription glasses that were being found I took my time digging this signal, as I reached into the hole I pulled out  a cool looking pair of spectacles. I have to say my first thought was  »Harry Potter »… I carefully wrapped it up in a cloth and put it in a safe pocket and resume my hunting.

When I got home that evening I posted on craigslist that I found prescription glasses along with a few other things I found at the Polar Bear Swim at English Bay Beach. I only received one reply from someone asking about a pair of Ray-Ban glasses (Aviators) but I did not find those, it took almost 3 weeks before I got a reply from a young man asking if I found a pair spectacles.

I took a picture with my iPhone and sent him the photo of the glasses and I received an email immediately… Those are the ones!!!

I have to admit it’s the first time I experienced how much it meant to to that person to have their prescription glasses found. I didn’t realize what the story was that came with the glasses until I talk with him. You see these were not ordinary prescription glasses, these glasses were from his great grandfather, over 100 years old! How can you ever replace a family heirloom like that? That’s why I love what I do! I love helping people and given them a second chance to find what they thought was lost forever!

Here’s what he put on The Ring Finders Face Book page…

« Thanks to Chris Turner and The Ring Finders recovered my Norwegian great grandfathers old pair of glasses that I lost during this years Polar Bear Swim in Vancouver, BC. Chris found them the same day and posted them under the lost and found section on Craigslist. And although it took me 20 days to even think that someone would be kind enough to put it on Craigslist, Chris convinced me that there still is some good in this world. These 100 year old glasses gets to continue their story and continue being a family heirloom.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart! »

Lost Ring found in the Okanagan Snow

The horses water trough was frozen over, so Paul used his bare hands to remove the ice from the trough. After the ice was all removed and Paul was back in the warm house, he noticed that his 14k yellow gold wedding band was missing. He went back to the trough area and did a visual search, with no  luck. He went back indoors and googled the RingFinders, after contacting me, I told him I would be out the next morning with my metal detector to search for it.  It was a cold day with ice all around the trough area of the barn. Paul told me he shook his hands when they were cold and wet, so I did a search around the perimeter of the trough. Luckily it was soon found in the snowy area. Another happy customer.

Irvine, CA. Lost Diamond Wedding Ring Recoverd

  • from Newport Beach (California, United States)

Thursday , Jan.10 at about 4:30pm, I recieved a call from Daisy telling me she had lost a diamond wedding ring. She had lost it the week before while playing with friends on a grass slope. They had spent several days searching for the ring with no suceess. I was able to meet her and her husband about an hour and 30 minutes later and it was already dark. I felt it was important to have them show me the location and explain what she was doing when she lost it. After meeting them and seeing the area (100 x 75 ft.) I thought I would try a couple hours. Daisy and Wonjoon offered to hold the flashlight and my coffee. It was a very trashy site with lots of pulltabs, bottle caps and other metallic items which made it a difficult seach. After about 2 hours we eyeballed the ring just before my dectector coil passed over it.  « They were so happy and so was I »  It is so rewarding to be able to help locate misplaced (not lost) valuables.

Crystal Cove State Beach, Gold Wedding Band recovered

  • from Newport Beach (California, United States)

Dear Stan,

We are so grateful to you for finding our father’s lost wedding band in the sand at Crystal Cove State Park this afternoon.  The RingFinders.com is a great resource.  Through the site we found you, and that you were able to come to us within the hour was truly fantastic.  Then, when you found the ring within five minutes, we were so relieved.  Thank you again.  I hope the rest of your day was as successful!       RICHARD
Thursday, 12-28-12 .. I received a call from Richard asking me if I could help his father find a gold wedding band that he had just lost.  His father was at Crystal Cove State Beach and it slipped off his finger in the dry sand. I told him, I could be there in about an hour and if they were able to wait for me it would be an easy search. I also told them not to disturb the sand as this can cause the ring to go deeper than the detector’s capabilities.  After arriving they were able to show me the area and the ring was found within a couple minutes. Then came the Big smiles and thank you.   This is so much fun to help people.

Lost Woman’s Diamond Engagement Ring in Lancaster, OH “FOUND”.

  • from Newark (Ohio, United States)
Contact:

I received a call from a guy on New Years Day about a lost White Gold and Diamond Engagement Ring. The ring was lost in the snow during the night before. I showed up a couple of hours later to search for the missing engagement ring. After asking more questions, I found out that the ring was thrown. I searched in the freezing temperatures in 3 inches of snow for a hour and a half with no luck.

A week later he wanted me to come back out and try again. Since the snow was mostly gone and more grass was visible. About a hour later of searching there was the ring laying on the grass beside the melting snow. I am very happy that the ring was found. He recently bought the ring for her and I wish them a happy engagement.
