Many Important Non-Jewelry Searches Lately

I’ve had some real fun and important non-jewelry searches for The Ring Finders in the past few weeks.

One was a search for a lady’s cell phone with case and credit cards enclosed. What made this search much more important was this cell phone had many photos of her and her husband, who had passed away just this Winter. She was very happy to have it back.

The next search was for a tractor part. The part wasn’t real valuable or sentimental, but it could’ve caused major damage or injuries if his high speed mower had hit it. The couple gave me a loaf of homemade sourdough bread after I found it. Yum!!

Another search was for car keys for a young new business owner. Her business relied on her driving 60 miles a day. The car is a 2004 Toyota 4-Runner and the dealer and a mechanic said it was going to cost around $2,000 to replace the key(Toyota should be sued!!). She had located a parts vehicle for $800, but that would mean she would have to pay extra for labor and towing, and her business would be on hold for several days. She was extremely happy when I found it!

Another successful search was out in the woods, high on a ridge in Woodbury. This person was a wildlife photographer who had lost an SD memory card with lots of fantastic photos and movie clips on it. It was an absolutely beautiful area I got to see!

Another search was to help out an excavator who was digging trenches all around a home. We had to locate an underground power cable, buried gas lines and a septic tank. He appreciated my help because without the metal detecting, the job would’ve taken much longer, and potentially could’ve been much more dangerous and expensive if something had been damaged.

I also found a tiny earring for my bosses daughter.

So much fun!

Wedding Ring Lost in the Sand at Santa Monica Beach…Found and Happily Returned.

This return will have a much different story than most. I was contacted by Eric who had been at the beach the day before, and lost his wedding ring. We decided to do a search for it when he was able to get off work and meet me at the beach.

When I got there Eric was waiting out behind the area he had been at the day before. I walked up to him, and we briefly discussed the loss, and the area we were going to go to. As we were going out across the sand, there was another metal detectorist coming from that direction leaving the beach. I could not let him go by with out letting him know why we were there, and to ask if maybe he had found Eric’s ring. So the question, did you find a gold ring in a particular area? Like an experienced person in the craft, his answer was not necessarily an answer. We made small talk, and Eric described the exact area, and then the unique pattern on the ring. He also mentioned that it had been his grandfather’s ring. The other detectorist asked Eric to describe it a little better, and with Eric’s description he included that not only was the pattern unique, but that it also had an inscription inside. At that point seeing that Eric was able to fully identify the ring, the other gentleman pulled it out of his pocket, and said that he did find it and gave it to Eric. He also said that the fact that it had been Eric’s grandfather’s ring really touched his heart. Most of the men and ladies out there with metal detectors are good people with good hearts, but have a right to be suspicious when someone comes to them asking if they found a ring or something of value. This gentleman did the right thing to insure that Eric was able to intimately describe the ring before producing it. He did a great thing that day, and it would not have happened, and Eric would not have gotten his ring back if I had not been willing to ask. Sometimes you just have to ask. It ended up being a great day.

Lake Christine/Los Colinas, TX ~ Lost Phone in Lake

Sometimes when you’re strolling along a water’s path, holding your phone and decide you need a drink from your water bottle being held in your other hand, attempting to remove the twist cap can be a little more challenging than imaginable.  That’s exactly what happened to Stephen yesterday. Getting in the water 5ft deep to search with a metal detector and scoop proved to be unreliable since the depth increased the further he tried to walk out. So Don suited up in his diver’s suit and tank to scan the bottom up to 15 ft deep.  After a couple of passes it was found in the far corner of the water.

PS… I do have to say it was really a strange feeling Scuba Diving in Lake Christine which is in the middle of 30 story tall buildings… I know we had many eyes watching us as we located this Iphone.

*** Steven called me asking how my metal detecting service works.  He wanted to know if I thought his ring would still be in the sand at The original muscle beach work out area. The ring was lost over a week ago and he had posted on a Facebook page called “the original muscle beach lost and found”  I had to be honest with him. That work out area known as the Original Muscle Beach is heavily hunted by recreational metal detectors and if he posted the location on a lost and found social media site, Chances of finding after a week were slim.

I could not justify driving the 50 miles to do a search the area. He understood and decided not ask me to do the search. 

Two days later I was at Santa Monica Beach finding a university class ring for Angela. After finding her ring I called Steven to tell him I was only a few blocks away from the Original Muscle Beach work out area. I was going to search the spot where he thought his ring had been lost.

I thought I cleared the area after finding a few coins and a generic stainless steel ring that didn’t look like a custom ring. Also it didn’t have any inscriptions as he verbally described it. I sent him a text that the ring didn’t show.

Fast forward two days later it was looking in some of my recent beach finds and I picked up that same ring. I put it in the light and used a magnifying loop to see a faint electronic inscription that matched what Steven said was on his ring. Crazy! I had found Steven’s ring in a place it should never had lasted a day without being found by others searching the popular location. To top it off it  took me two days to realize I had found it.. Anyway Steven has been notified and will be picking it up soon.

I received a call about a lost earring stud with backing. Both was lost while trying to swat away a mosquito in a grass area. I schedule time to perform the hunt in the evening. Started the search with no luck then got a hit and while moving the grass aside there was the earring stud. Continue the search for the earring backing. After a few more minutes got another hit and there was the backing. They was very happy to have the gold diamond earring stud and backing returned to them.

Rose Gold Wedding Ring Lost On Emerald Isle Beach Found And Returned

Nicholas sent me a message very early in the morning about his wife’s wedding ring being lost on the Emerald Isle beach.  I did some investigative work ( asking for location pictures, ring description, etc.) and made a plan to head to the beach.  After some communications, I was able to find the area they were set up and started my search.  Unfortunately, after my first attempt, I only found a few items and no ring.  Nicholas’s reply was « That’s unfortunate. »  I woke up early the next morning to head back there with my CTX-3030 with a 17″ search coil to cover the area without missing spots and to hopefully gain a few more inches of depth.  I also recruited the service of my friend, Justin.  He has helped me in the past even when I was out of state.  Justin was using his Minelab Equinox with a 15″ search coil.  Again after hours of searching, we were not finding the ring and decided it was time to take a break and evaluate our next plan.  I decided to widen the search area of the slope they had set up on and thought where the ring may have fallen out of the purse it was placed for safe keeping.  Just started to work the area between from where they arrived and exited the beach, and their set up location near the water.   Finally, Justin received a solid tone and was able to pull Christina’s ring out of the soft sand.

Huge cuban link gold bracelets lost Marco Island Naples Found

Lost GOLD FOUND! After spending a day on the beach and getting ready to call it a day, it took several guys to get the boat off the sandbar. That’s when it happened, while making a quick phone call, he realized that both of his bracelets that he’d safely stowed in his dry bag were missing. Well, it’s only lost until you call. Having receive the call for help, we coordinated a plan to get there by boat, carefully checked the tide charts, and arranged the time and place to meet. Long story short, the bracelets are back where they belong. A picture is often better than a thousand words, take a look, you judge for yourself. Congratulation again Gustavo!!!

Lost Tungsten Wedding Band in the sand behind the Duke Kahanamoku Statue at Waikiki Beach…FOUND!!!

This ring find began when my fellow ring finder Don referred Marquis from Baton Rouge Louisiana to give me a call as I live 10 minutes from Waikiki Beach. Marquis told me he was on his honeymoon celebrating in Waikiki and when he picked up his gear as he was leaving the Beach, his Black Tungsten Wedding Band must have fallen out. He said they were directly behind the Duke Statue in the dry sand. I unfortunately, had just gotten dressed to attend a belated Father’s Day Dinner Party at Ala Moana which is minutes from Waikiki. I promised Marquis I’d bring my detecting gear with me and as soon as dinner was over my wife and I would stop by and recover his ring. Around 8:30PM Marquis texted that he was waiting at the Duke Beach. I texted him we were finishing dessert and I’d be on my way shortly. Thankfully, when we arrived there was one stall of HPD parking open and I parked there. From there I could see Marquis standing under the Duke Statue. I asked my wife to wait in the car as I suspected this would be a quick hunt and it was. A mere 5 minutes later I was heading home. Marquis was shocked how quick the recovery happened and exclaimed, « Joe your a Legend » Not exactly but go ahead and feel that way. If I understood him correctly his wife didn’t know and they would be flying home in the morning. Aloha to Marquis!

Lost Gold & Cobalt with Diamonds Wedding Band in Ulua Lagoon Ko Olina…FOUND!!!

This ring find began on Monday when I got a heads up from Aloha Security that they stopped a gentleman at the lagoon for metal detecting and told him to contact myself for recovery. His detector wasn’t made for salt water so it was basically useless for a recovery. Keith is a Chief Navy Diver stationed in Hawaii and he reached out to me for ring finder services. After getting a map drawing and a few pics I told the Chief I’d hunt for his ring the next day after work. Aloha Security was also at the beach and confirmed the pics depicted the correct area to hunt. The Chief had been playing with his young sons in the water and at some point his ring came off. He was only out to chest deep water so all this info helps immensely with the hunt. I fired up the Nox and headed into the water to conduct a grid search. First target was a gold plated silver bracelet. The next target was a Gold Hawaiian style ring with the letter « D » on it. Next I found a fake Cartier Gold Love ring. Man what’s going on here I wondered? 20 minutes in and three pieces of jewelry. Finally I got a booming number « 16 » on the Nox and in one scoop in waist deep water out came Keith’s magnificent ring. I showed Aloha Security the find and immediately texted Keith a pic of his ring. He responded, « Having a rough day at work, your news couldn’t have come at a better time. Thanks Joe » That’s what it all about! We met up the next day at the Navy Exchange and Chief now has his ring back on his finger. Aloha to Chief Keith!

Ring Lost in Coronado Found

Zari spent the day at the beach in Coronado, and when she was ready to go home, noticed her wedding ring/engagement ring combo was missing off her finger. She wasn’t sure if it came off in the dry sand building sand castles, or, out in the water where she was tumbled by a wave after introducing her daughter to her first experience in the surf. After an online search and finding TheRingFinders.com and my info, she contacted me Tuesday evening for help. Since there was a strong possibility that the ring could be in the water, I told Zari that it would be best if I conducted the search at the next low tide, which was at 4:38am the next morning. I had her send me some photos of her location on the beach along with a photo of the rings. Upon arrival the next morning at 2:30am, I triangulated the photos to get me on ground zero. Unfortunately, I discovered grid marks all over the sand in the area of where she had been camped the previous day and they lead down the slope toward the water. Not a good sign! Looks like someone has been there recently, but, that’s a very popular section of beach, so, not completely unexpected. I looked down the beach in both directions, and the grid marks are only 50 feet either way of ground zero. Nowhere else on the beach!  WTF? I’m thinking that someone somehow knew there must be a lost ring there. Well, I was already there, so, I may as well give it a try. I hit the dry sand first and didn’t get a single good target other than one zinc cent. Ok, off to the water. I made 4-5 passes into the surf without a single target. On the sixth pass just as I turned to head back up slope from shin deep water, I get a nice solid 10 on the Equinox, One scoop and I had the ring! I texted Zari with the good news, but, didn’t expect or get a response until later in the morning. After a bit of sleep, got up, and went off to another detecting adventure that morning, I arranged with Zari to meet later in the day and get the ring back on her finger. A pleasure to meet you and thank you for the reward.
