Property Markers Missing For Close to 50 Years

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)

I was recently contacted by Nathaniel about some missing property markers on his property, in Hollis, Maine, about 25 miles west of Portland, Maine. Nathaniel had found my RingFinders Metal Detecting Service by doing a Google search for “How to find Missing Property Markers, With A Metal Detector”.  My name was right near the top of the list. Nathaniel asked if I could help locate any of the markers with my metal detector, if the markers were still there at all.  He told me that the home had been built in the early 1970’s and he had purchased the property 8 years ago. Nathaniel was told there were property markers at the time the home was built, according to records he had obtained. He was also told by the previous owner that at least one marker had been removed many years ago. The property is a rural area and his 2+ acres were a combination of woods, field, marshy areas and generally overgrown underbrush.  I agreed to help and arranged to meet him the next morning.
Nathaniel met me bright and early and showed me where he thought one of the property markers should be. I told Nathaniel  that we would dig and investigate every target. As I detected the area, I was finding absolutely nothing. No trash, nails or any other metal was being found. Finally after approximately 30 minutes, I had an iron target. Unfortunately, it turned out to be an old nail.  As I started detecting again, a property marker was visibly seen, approximately 50-60 feet further west than Nathaniel had me detecting in. The marker was found in an overgrown area of new and dead grass.

With one marker found, we proceeded into a swampy area approximately 400 feet into the woods. The area had many downed trees and was very very wet and mucky. I detected and visually looked for approximately 2 1/2 more hours with no luck on the remaining 2 markers. Nathaniel also did a very through visual search while I was detecting the areas. Had the markers been removed years ago by the owner, hunters, kids playing in the woods? Had the markers fallen victim to one of the many fallen trees and is now under one of those large trees? We may never know but Nathaniel now has one of his property markers to start with his surveying of the property.
So, not all call outs are for finding a ring or necklace with a metal detector. Next time you are contacted, you may just be heading into a wooded, swampy area looking for property markers.

Lost gold wedding ring, found in Lake Eola Park, Orlando, Fl…..Found with a metal detector!

Lost your ring, other valuable jewelry, cellphone, keys or other metal object….Call or text Mike McInroe at 321-363-6029 ASAP! I am a ring recovery specialist serving all of central Florida and beyond!

Here is Patsy’s story in her own words! « On Palm Sunday, April 2, 2023 my husband and I were visiting our son in Orlando, Florida where we lived previously for 20 years. We now live in Tennessee. This was our BIG two week vacation with a trip to Miami to see our daughter and then on to Fort Lauderdale for a 9 day cruise! While in Orlando we went to Mass at St James Cathedral, and walked to it from our hotel near the Florida Hospital. We forgot how humid Orlando is and by the time we arrived at Church, both of us had swollen hands from the walking and the humidity. My wedding band started to feel tight and I was worried I wouldn’t be able to get it off, so I wrangled it off as we left church. We saw a festival going on next door at Lake Eola Park and headed that way. Previously I had put my ring in my fanny pack and double checked to make sure it was in properly. It was. When we arrived at the park, a number of tents were selling various foods and candied pecans which looked so good to me. So being cautious (I thought) I stepped over under a couple of trees, opened up my fanny pack and pulled out some cash for the nuts. Later that evening, when it had cooled down, I thought it would be safe to put my wedding ring back on. Except there was no wedding band to be found. Not in the fanny pack, not on the floor, no where! We asked our son and his girlfriend to come back to the park with us and look around, which we did. NO RING! Nothing like feeling sick about a loss the first day of our vacation! But I was determined it was not going to ruin things and I soldiered on. We went to Miami the following day and I remembered reading about volunteers throughout the country who use metal detectors to find lost items. So, from the hotel in Miami, I looked for someone in Orlando I could contact and found Mike McInroe! I texted him late and he responded right away, asking for details and maps. Since I was unable to take a screen shot on the hotel computer, I hand drew a couple of little maps with notes and arrows, took photos of them and sent them off to Mike. I wasn’t in Orlando and I could only tell him what I remembered. He was extraordinarily patient, asking clarifying questions and said he would give it a shot, even though we both knew the odds were stacked against us. And to top it off we would be unable to use internet on the ship although we could receive text messages in some areas. I checked periodically but saw nothing from Mike. I thought he had given up and was waiting to tell me the bad news once I returned home. Then when we landed in Atlanta, about 40 text messages came through, even though we were in Florida for a few hours before we flew back from Fort Lauderdale. Why they didn’t come through then I have no clue. But there was one from Mike, with a photo of my ring and the great news that he had found it! I cannot tell you how excited I was. Even though I only got married in 2017 it was my first marriage, making it all the more special because we bought our rings in Ireland! I am still amazed and in awe of the outcome. Mike has such a positive attitude and calm demeanor, that I could have handled it even if he had not found my lost ring. But he DID FIND IT!! He sent it by UPS to me in Tennessee and that is my Happy Ending! And frankly, an amazing story to tell my friends and family who don’t believe we actually got our lost ring back! Thank you Mike! »

How I thank God for allowing me to find and return Patsy’s lost wedding ring! Feel free to call me and let me know how I can possibly help you find something you have lost….it never hurts to ask! Even if it was lost years ago and you know of the approximate location, like in your yard, at the park, etc…

I received a late night text from Karla hoping I could help her find her lost rings. I tried getting back to her, but it was too late in the night. The next morning she called, and explained that she had lost her rings a couple of days earlier at her home, and had scoured the house looking for them. She had also gone through much of the trash as well, but was unable to find them. She asked if I could come and detect her trash to see if by chance they ended up in there, so we made arrangements for the search.

I arrived at the appointed time, and Karla and her husband Bart were waiting. She took me to the back of the house where the trash cans were, and we talked about the possibilities of the loss. They have a young child, so there were two bags of used diapers to search; Karla thinking that while changing their child they might have come off, and got folded up in a diaper. I used my metal detector to go over the bags of diapers, and my pin pointer to check each diaper individually, no rings. Karla then brought out a couple of bags of trash that she believed were highly suspect, and I went through each and every item with my pin pointer finding much foil and other metal objects, but no rings. Bart then brought out 5 more bags, but wasn’t sure if they were even from the time frame of the loss. But I kept to my plan to search every item in each bag thoroughly to be certain if the rings were there or not. I went through 3 of the bags finding a lot of foil and such, but no rings. As happens a lot of times during a search like this, I will be continuing my search, but the person I am trying to help begins to lose hope, and wanders away, and both Karla and Bart went looking in other places; I just kept pounding away at the trash. Then while going through the 4th bag, my pin pointer sounded off on a napkin in a take out dish. I lifted the napkin, and two beautiful gold rings were there. I walked over to Bart, and showed him, and he said that he was losing hope, and was so surprised they were found. He called Karla, and I was able to give her rings back to her. To see their joy was a great reward.

How to find a ring after its thrown, Spokane Valley Wa

  • from Spokane (Washington, United States)

Shawn had just about enough of the stress in his life. However Shawn knew he needed to cool down. So he went outside in the cool spring air and let his rage fly…along with his two rings. Two days later I was looking for another pair of thrown rings, when Shawn’s girlfriend asked me if I would look for Shawn’s lost ring on her property.  I quickly went over the area Shawn pointed out, knowing that the flat ground wouldn’t hide a ring. Within 10 minutes I had a beep in the tall grass and with a few swipes of my pinpointer one of Shawn’s rings popped up. Sadly the largest of the two rings flew off this planet when Shawn threw it, so that one wasn’t recovered.

House Key Lost and Found – Racine, WI

  • from Menomonee Falls (Wisconsin, United States)

Racine, WI resident, Nancy Koval, went to unlock the door to her house only to discover her key was missing. She had taken it out of her purse moments before but now it was gone. Nancy thought back, recalling how with key in hand she had brushed some leaves off bushes along the sidewalk. Had her key inadvertantly fallen into the thick foliage?

I received a phone call from Nancy asking if I might assist. While not a ring, losing her house key was disconcerting for Nancy. The loss created an uneasiness in her mind. “What if it fell on the sidewalk and someone had picked it up,” she mused. The thought was not comforting.

Arriving at her home, I had Nancy duplicate the route she had taken from her car to the door. A detective’s line of forensic questions helped narrow the search field. Then began the work of eliminating the area where knee-high, ‘Winter Creeper’ [Euonymus Fortunei Celastrales] was flourishing. I laid on the sidewalk and reached as far as I could under the bushes with my PinPointer probe, inch by inch. Over an hour later, still no key. And so I stepped into the bushes, probing down amongst the prickly tangle. I again worked my way the length of the sidewalk. About two thirds of the way and another hour later, my PinPointer responded to the presence of metal. It was Nancy’s key!

Nancy’s smile conveys her enormous relief! As for my arm, it looked like I had a fight with a tomcat and lost!

Engagement Ring Recovered In Sea Bright NJ

Got a late night text from Liliette asking for help in finding her lost engagement ring. I texted her back in the morning and told her to call me when i went on break at work. When she called i told her if she could meet me right away i could drive to Sea Bright and give it an hour and half to try to find her ring. She lives 45 minutes from the beach and said she’d leave ASAP. Mean time I asked for a screen shop of beach and to mark the area she lost the ring. I got to the beach and started to hunt the area but no luck. She arrived with her Fiance and I showed them where I worked and they said I was in the right area. Seem they were there the day before with their dog enjoying the day. The dog at one time desided to run and jerked the leash out of her hand and her ring came off as well and landed in the soft sand and disappeared. They tried to look themselves but had no luck. Then after thinking about it her fiance remember her saying she didnt hope it was going to get washed out with the tide. Where I had already searched was alittle higher up on the beach and I had about a 20 foot wide area from there to the water I didn’t search. I started searching that area and sure enough just at the high tide mark from last nights high tide I found her ring. She couldn’t of been more excited that I found it. Today was their 1 year anniversary of getting engaged. A great Happy Ending.

I received a text from Shannon asking me if I could come out and look for her husband Luke’s wedding ring. Shannon said her husband had contacted me a few months ago to look for his ring in the snow but they had found it before I was able to get there. This time he was working in the yard when it came off. We made arrangements and the next day I went out. Shannon showed me a relatively small area next to the house and I started to look. I cleared the first area and started to expand my search when I located the ring. It was a few feet outside the section they had been concentrating on and was under a small flower. Shannon was happy that I found the ring and was not very surprised as she was confident I would locate it from the onset. I was glad that I was able to make the recovery and as always – it a pleasure to meet kind and generous people like Shannon.

I received a text from Christina asking if I could look for her husband’s gold wedding band. They were not sure but thought it could have been lost in the yard a few days prior when they were doing some yard work. I drove out later that afternoon and met Christina and her husband Kurt. They showed me where he had been working in the yard and I got to work. I checked about half of the area when I hit a pretty good sound…only to find a nail. However, following the cardinal rule of always checking the hole again I got another good sound and this time I struck gold! I pulled out the ring and asked Christina to come outside. She could not believe that I found the ring and I gave it to her to return to her husband. Kurt was very happy to have his ring back. Not knowing for sure if it was in the yard it was definitly a nice surprise for all of us. As alwasy – it was great to meet kind and generous people and be able to return the lost ring!

I got a call from Mike that he was removing some trash from in front of his house when his ring flew off his finger. Mike said that he and some of the neighbors had searched the area but were unable to find it and he thought maybe it went into the sewer. It was Good Friday and I was planning on heading to church in a little bit so I was hesitant to head out until after mass however, my wife convinced me to go and help Mike – maybe that was my calling for the day. So I told Mike I would be right out and about an hour later I arrived. Looking at where the sewer was compared to where he had been standing when he lost his ring I was thinking that would be one heck of shot and some really bad luck if it went into the sewer, so I had my doubts it went in there. I began my search, checking the most logical place which was the neighbor’s yard across the street and I came up empty so I went back over in front of Mike’s house. After scanning the front yard I moved to the lower side of the driveway where there was a slight drop off to the grass and BAM! there it was. Mike was very surprised at where I had found it in relation to where he had lost it. He and his wife were ever so grateful. The nice thing about a semi-quick find like this was I got to spend a bit of time talking to Mike afterwards. As always – it is great to meet kind and generous people like Mike and his wife and be able to return his lost ring! And I was really glad my wife talked me into going out sooner than later…there is only one Easter miracle but this was definitely a blessing!
