John called asking about recovering his phone that he dropped in the bay while unloading his boat. He dropped it the night before and knew the general area that it was in.  Besides the phone, his drivers license was in the case also. I arranged to meet him at the house, where we talked out the details, grabbed my equipment, and headed into the water. John stood in one spot acting as one point of reference, and I used the mooring buoy as the other. The bottom was very muddy and covered with weed matter, making the search a little tricky. Working back and fourth, I covered everything between my 2 reference points with no luck, and decided to work a bit between him and the shore line. Winds had shifted from the day before, moving the boat and mooring buoy about 180*, which kinda threw things off a bit. I wondered way out to the right of the mooring to an area that wasn’t covered yet, and bingo, I got the signal I wanted. When I lifted the phone out of the water it was dinging like crazy after it locked onto Wi-Fi. These newer phones are incredibly waterproof.

.. I was detecting on the beach when two guys approached me. I was ready for the big question, “ what’s the best thing you’ve ever found.” They only wanted to know if I could walk over to the firepits to help a member of their party find a set of wedding rings. She believed they might be where she had been most the day, although she had gone to the water earlier that afternoon.

It was about 9 pm and the beach will close at 10pm. There must have been 20 or more people in their group. They had all tried their luck at finding the ring. The clock was ticking and they all thought bit was useless to think the ring set would show up before they had to leave. 

I set up my detector and immediately started getting signals from tin foil and pull tabs. My audience was watching my every move, waiting for a successful recovery. A short time after I started I got the best signal of the night. Right under where Ruth had been sitting. Two white gold wedding rings soldered together gave me a strong signal in my Minelab Manticore metal detector.

Ruth was next to me so I held up the sand scoop asking her to look in the scoop. With the light from my headlamp her white gold diamond rings were shining at the bottom of my scoop. She let out a screen of joy and that set off a screening frenzy form all her friends. Another great night time recovery being at the right place at the right time.

Lost wedding ring in Lake Conway, Belle Isle, Florida…..Found with metal detector by Orlando Ring Finder.

Josh and his family, along with some good friends, were enjoying a warm summer day on Lake Conway swimming and playing catch with the football when all of a sudden Josh noticed that his wedding ring was not on his finger. Their boat was anchored in waist deep water so they all tried walking and swimming back and forth trying desperately to feel or see Josh’s ring but after an hour of absolutely no success they gave up their search. Josh’s wife, Katrina, went on Google to see if there was possibly any type of metal detecting service that could help in this sort of situation and sure enough…theringfinders.com website came up and she gave me a call. As we talked, my main concern was how do you mark an exact location on the water so that later on I would be able to conduct a thorough search in the right area? I then asked Katrina to drop me a pin and to bury in the sandy lake bottom an empty soda can right where their boat was anchored. (One can also drop a bunch of coins as well as either method would help mark the exact area.)

My first attempt to search for Josh’s lost wedding ring took me 5 and a half hours of grid searching back and forth in waist deep water trying to at least locate the buried can….but I was not able to find it. Two things entered my mind. The first being that maybe my calculations were off and I was not looking in the right area and the other thought was that maybe someone else had found the ring and the can.

My second attempt I was accompanied by my good friend and CEO/founder of theringfinders.com and together we expanded the original search area! After two hours of meticulous grid searching my friend Chris hollers that he found a buried aluminum can and not just one but two new looking cans…filled with sand! I immediately began making my way towards where the cans were buried and not 20 feet away I got another pull tab like signal reading and dug a scoop full of sand and muck and as I shook out the sand I could hear the distinct clunk, clunk of something heavy and there in the bottom was Josh’s lost wedding ring…sparkling clean and shiny as the day it was lost!

Lost Engagement Ring Lost And Found on Ferry Beach Scarborough Maine

After a long but rewarding day (I have already recovered and returned 2 gold wedding rings), my wife pulled up in the car,  to pick me up and I was ready to go home. As  I was loading my detecting equipment in the car, my phone rang and I saw a voice mail had been left approximately 6 minutes earlier. The voice mail stated that the callers name was Robin and that she was with a group of people at Ferry Beach, in Scarborough, Maine and that an engagement ring had been lost in the sand. Robin had performed a “google” search and had come across my name. Robin was wondering if I were available to help them with my metal detecting service. I immediately called Robin back and told her that I absolutely would be willing to help. Robin proceeded to tell me they were out on the Point, at Ferry Beach. Ferry Beach is approximately 12-15 miles north from where I was in Old Orchard Beach, Maine and 10-12 miles south of Portland, Maine. With summer traffic is full swing, along the southern coast of Maine, I told Robin that I would be there in 30 minutes. Once my wife and I arrived, at Ferry Beach, Scarborough, Maine,  we saw Robin waving us down.
There were a group of people there and I learned the person that was missing the ring was Emily. Emily explained that she had applied lotion to herself and that 2 of her rings had slipped off and had fallen into the sand. One of the rings had already been found by the group but the engagement ring was still missing. The group had already marked an area off as being the most likely spot that the ring would be in. As I started a grid of the area, I found a nail and then a pull tab. I then received a nice signal on the CTX-3030. I pulled my pin pointer out, found the target and put my hand into the sand. Out came Emily’s Engagement Ring and when I held it up for the group to see, Applause and Cheers filled the air. I was again very relieved to have been blessed to have found and returned Emily’s Engagement Ring. Emily and her group of family and friends were also relieved and extremely grateful to The Ring Finders.
After finding Emily’s Engagement Ring, and the 3rd recovery of the day, I was ready to go home Wow, it was a day I will never forget. I am so blessed to be able to help people out, in their time of need.

Stefania called me to help find her husband’s lost wedding band on the beach in Wildwood Crest, NJ. They left the beach a few hours prior and realized it was missing. She explained that Chris put the ring in the chair and figured it must have fallen out when she packed up. I met the family on the beach in the general area and began the search. The ring didn’t turn up in the search area, so the only option was to look where a nearby couple was sitting. The couple was kind to move their belongings
and it wound up being under their chair! Stefania and Chris were excited to get the ring back and resume the remainder of their vacation in Wildwood Crest, NJ.

Another Gold Wedding Ring Found And Returned in Old Orchard Beach Maine

Now that Joanne had her wedding ring back, her friend just told me that he also had lost his wedding ring in the sand. He told me his name was Gene and that just like Joanne, he had also placed his wedding ring on his beach towel and went swimming in the ocean. Just like Joanne, Gene had forgotten he had taken his ring off and placed it on his towel. Gene was drying off, using his towel when he remembered his ring. It was to late as the wedding ring had been swallowed up by the beach sand. Gene proceeds to show me the area his beach towel was, when the ring was lost. It was only 5-6 feet away from his friend, Joanne’s lost ring. I passed the coil over the area that Gene had pointed out and within 3 swings of my coil, I had found Gene’s wedding band. I still couldn’t believe that I had just recovered 2 gold wedding bands with in 5-6 feet of each other and that they knew each other.
As I walked away and resumed detecting down new the low tide mark, I decided to call my wife to come pick me up, as I was now 3 hours into my hunt and that is about my limit. When my wife arrived, I started putting my detector and gear in to the car, when my phone rang. Story to continue in my next blog.

Gold Wedding Band Lost In The Sand, Recovered and Returned

Sunday July 30, 2023 is a day I will never forget. I was able to recover and return, not 1, not 2, but 3 rings in one day.  The first recovery happened as I was already at the beach and detecting down near the low tide line. A woman approached me and asked if I could find her gold wedding ring. I asked her if she had lost it in the water. She replied that she had lost it up in the dry sand. I then asked her how she lost it. She told me that she had taken her ring off and placed it on her towel so that she could go swimming in the ocean. As we walked to the area where she lost it, she told me her name was Joanne and that Joanne had come to the beach with her family and some friends. When we arrived at the location of where she lost it, she told me that she picked up the towel to dry off, after swimming in the ocean and the ring must have fallen into the sand. She then pointed to the area where she thought it had fallen into the sand. I passed the 17 in coil of my CTX-3030 over the area and on the backswing , I received a sold target and then got the pinpointed out, located the target and Joanne  had her wedding band back. Literally less than 20 seconds to locate the ring.
As she was thanking me, one of her friends asked me if I could find his ring. WHAT,  You lost your ring also? Yes, he replied. Wow, I couldn’t believe it. I will now finish the story on my next blog.

LOST WEDDING RING IN POPULAR IOWA LAKE

A fun day on a pontoon ends up with a wedding ring at the bottom of Clear Lake in Iowa. After reading other finds Margi gave me a call and asked if I was willing to come look for her ring.  I was more than willing except for one problem. I had a broken toe and was currently in a boot cast. After a visit to the doctor that week, I was told that I could start the transition away from the boot and into an ankle brace.

The ring was some where by the beach and swim area of the State Park and Campground. We made plans and made a reservation at the campground for the following weekend and meetup with Margi and her husband Dan at 8am on Saturday.  When Saturday came we met and walked to the beach area. There was a large swim area marked by buoys and boats would anchor just outside the swim area and have fun. In the summer afternoon this would attract dozens of boats and hundreds of people.  They had anchored the pontoon and proceeded to jump in the water and play.  They actually had a photo of her jumping in the water. Studying the photo, you could clearly see the ring on her finger and you could see the left 2 buoys as you were facing the shore. To give a little perspective, we were 400 feet from shore and only 4 foot of water.  Using the buoys as our reference point we started searching. After 3 hours of searching we found many bottle caps, a 2020 penny, a 1966 dime, an old ring type pull tab from the 1970’s, and a top of a beverage can that was opened with a churchkey so dating prior to mid 60’s. Boats and people were starting to come so we had to suspend the search but I assured them that I would be back the next morning.  During our time together I found out that the ring had not left her finger for 30 years. Dan saved up for 3 years and had it custom made so it had a lot of meaning.

That afternoon, my wife Jeni and I regrouped. I went and bought a waterproof case for my phone so I could take it out in the water with me. The next morning at 7am, Jeni and I went to the beach and we went back out using the GPS coordinates of the photo. We searched what I thought was the correct place for another couple hours and found more junk. At this point, I was needing more sun screen so we went back into the beach. I ended up downloading a GPS app to my phone and put the coordinates of the photo into the app and when we went back out I was able to stand at the exact location of the photo.  The thing was at this new location which was left of the buoys which did not make sense as we have focused all our time right of the buoys that the photo clearly showed.  Jeni stood at that new location and I used her as a reference. I started to scan the area and within 5 minutes I got a hit at a location that was consistent with where she would have jumped in. I scooped and there it was less than 10 feet from where my gps said the photo was taken. I turned to Jeni and I could not even speak and she saw the look on my face and asked what was wrong. I was able to get the words out that I found it. After finding so many bottle caps it was just unbelievable.

We made our way back to shore at which point I gave Jeni the ring as I was shaking. We went back to our camper decided to shower to wash off all the sand and change before we called Margi.  We gave Margi a call on speaker and I explained that we had been searching since 7am and we were going to pack up but then asked if she wanted to come get this rock before we left. There were tears over the phone which made Jeni and I start to cry. Margi and her daughter came and we reunited her with her beautiful ring. It was a fun weekend that ended with so much joy.
