LOST WEDDING RING KAUAI… FOUND!

This ring find started with an email from Tom and required a fair share of logistical work. While Located on Oahu Tom and I found a way to get me to Kaua’i. Tom shared with me that this ring has been with him for over 29 years and had its fair share of close calls but never like this. This one seemed like it might be a goner for good and need help. I was hopeful and determined to return such a precious ring. I flew over to Kaua’i with my dad as it was his day off and there’s no better of a partner than family. We got our rental and headed to the beach where tom explained to me where he lost it. It’s always important to get as much details as possible on a search like this and tom did as I asked and made me a detailed map to put me in the best location. As I entered the water and got chest deep I started my grid and not long after I hear that equinox TONE. I dig a big scoop and there in the bottom on my Xtreme sand scoop is Tom’s ring. I shouted to my dad… We did It! And a couple who was on vacation came down the beach to find out what the commotion was about and I held up Tom’s ring and said… Once lost…Now found! They were excited as well as my dad and I. it was a nice flight back to Oahu. I was able to call Tom and ask for his address and send him his ring back with some goodies from Hawaii. Another great return and it Always comes from a place of Aloha.

Men’s Palladium Wedding Band Lost for 6 Years at Public Dog Park…FOUND Madison, Alabama!

Key takeaway of this story – NEVER LOSE HOPE!  If you’ve ever lost a ring, piece of jewelry, or other sentimental item, there’s still a chance of getting it back.  Recovering a lost item from a public area may seem hopeless (especially if it’s been many years), but a Good Samaritan may have found it and will try to return it, or it may just actually still be there…

I received an email from Ed on December 14th, 2019 (yes, this was over a year ago) for two lost men’s wedding bands.  Ed stated that he lost his first wedding band at a public Dog Park near the Research Park area many years ago.  He figured it was long gone due to the maintenance and foot traffic.  He got a replacement band and unfortunately, he lost that one as well.  He felt fairly certain that he lost the second ring in his backyard and he would like for me to come out and conduct a search.  I sent an email back that I’d be more than happy to help look for both rings and asked when a good time was.  I didn’t receive a response.  About a week later, I sent another email, but still no response.  Ed didn’t leave his phone number, so I assumed that he just changed his mind.  I put the details in my notes and forgot about it.

The end of 2019 and beginning of 2020, I was dealing with the unfortunate issue of cluster headaches.  They were getting worse, so I was trying to figure out the root cause.  Long story short, I had an MRI and discovered that I had a Meningioma/benign tumor in my head.  I had a craniotomy on May 26th, 2020 to remove it.  The surgery went well and the tumor was removed!  By the end of 2020, I was all healed up, headache free, and feeling better than ever!  I could now go out metal detecting as much as I wanted (work schedule and weather permitting lol)!

I was looking back at past inquiries I received as a Ring Finder.  Ed’s email about his 2 lost wedding bands stuck out to me.  I figured a search at the Dog Park would be fun, plus there was the possibility that a lost ring was still there.  A quick Google search and I was fairly certain Ed lost his ring at Creekwood Dog Park in Madison, Alabama.  I emailed Ed on January 13th, 2021 to confirm and get details on the specific area he was in.  A few days later he replied back and confirmed it was at Creekwood, and he even provided a Google Map image with a line he drew of the entire path he walked from the parking lot and back (photo on left side below).  He also said that he last remembered having the Palladium ring when he was sitting at the picnic table on the right side of the fenced in play area (green roof structure on photo on right side below).  Further, Ed told me that he found his replacement wedding in a sock drawer!  Only one ring left to find!

I went out to Creekwood the following day, January 18th, 2021 for the search.  Before I started, I prayed to God and asked Him for a safe and successful search.  I also asked Him to guide me and put me in the location where Ed’s ring was.  Armed with my Minelab Equinox 800 and 15 inch coil, I decided to start at the picnic table and conduct an east/west style grid walking towards the middle fence that separated the two large dog play areas.  I had a lot of ground to cover, but I remained optimistic.

I finished my second grid line and noticed that there were some dog hurdles further down the fence line, so I stayed and searched some more along the fence area.  About 30 minutes into my search and 5 feet from the fence and second gate separating the two play areas, I get a loud and solid 17 on my Equinox.  About an inch down, I uncover a man’s wedding ring (red “X” on photo on right side below)!  Wiping away the dirt, I can see a unique basketweave style design on the outside of the ring.  I tried wiping the dirt off from the inside to check for a marking of what type of metal the ring was.  However, there’s a grove on the inside that I wouldn’t be able to clean off until I got home.  But, I was pretty positive that this was Ed’s ring!

I got the ring home and cleaned it off.  I then saw a PD 950 (Palladium) stamp on the inside of the ring…this was indeed Ed’s lost wedding band!  Wow, against all odds!!!  I thanked the Lord for this miraculous recovery!

Details that I learned when I returned the ring to Ed a few days later:  This ring was lost in 2015, so it’s been sitting in a public park for 6 years!!!  Ed didn’t actually have the ring on his finger.  It was looped through some paracord and tied around his neck.  Ed bought a cheap metal detector and tried searching multiple times and spent numerous hours looking.  He even took a large magnet on wheels that is used to pick up nails in hopes that the ring had some magnetic properties to it, but after all the attempts, still no ring.  He then put up lost ring posters at the park, but never heard anything.  Ed assumed that someone must’ve have found it and that was the end of this ring’s story.  So, when I sent him a photo of the ring, he was shocked to say the least!  He told me that he never thought he would see this ring again and he was very disappointed when he lost it.  I’m happy to say that this ring’s story now gets to continue!  Athena, Ed’s dog that was with him the day he lost his ring at the park is sitting in the front seat of his truck smiling along with Ed in the photo below!

Lost Diamond Ring Recovered in Fredericksburg After Rare Snow Event – Returned to Owner!

Mid-afternoon on Sunday I received a frantic call from Shawn that his wife had lost the Diamond Engagement Ring of her wedding set while throwing snowballs at him. Earlier that day Shawn and Jessica learned that it could possibly snow in Fredericksburg, Texas that afternoon. Predicted accumulation was only about 1” (it only snows here about once every six years). Nevertheless, they drove from San Antonio to Fredericksburg because growing up in Florida Jessica had never seen snow before. The snow event happened and before you know it Jessica was rolling snowballs and having a grand time throwing them at Shawn. Uh oh, Jessica looked down and her Diamond Engagement Ring was missing from her finger! She knew she had it when the snow started because she had a picture of it from the restaurant they had eaten at.

So, Shawn looks on the web for metal detectors and finds me under TheRingFinders.com and my Kerrville-Fredericksburg Rings Finders Facebook page. He contacts me and explains the situation. He was positive of the ¼ acre location area in the city park that the ring was lost in. I asked him to call the police department for permission for me to metal detect in the park. They agreed but only to look for the ring and no holes were to dug (historical area). I agreed to brave the 25 mile drive from Kerrville in winter conditions and the 32 degree temperature to try to locate Jessica’s ring. When I arrived at the park the snow had stopped falling and most had already melted into the ground. They showed me the area that they thought the ring should be in. I started to detect with my Garrett AT Pro and found there were a lot of targets to be checked. I detected the entire area for about 1 hour and did not find her ring. The cold had gotten to me and it would be dark soon so I called off the search. I told Jessica and Shawn that I would come back when it was warmer in a couple of days to search for it again.

On Wednesday, the temperature reached the 60’s in the afternoon. My wife, Kathy, and I drove over to Fredericksburg and I again started detecting the area in the park that Jessica had lost her ring in. After about 30 minutes of swinging the detector I got a tone that rang true. Looking down in the grass I could see the glint of a diamond ring. Holy cow, Jessica’s ring!                                                              

I called my wife over and we recovered it from the grass. I text Jessica the pictures of it. She was elated to say the least! We made arrangements to meet on Friday to return the ring to her. The smile on Jessica face when she had the ring back on her finger says it all!

Shawn and Jessica did everything right when they noticed her diamond ring was missing. They did a quick scan and realized they would need a metal detector to find it. More importantly, they realized they need an experienced operator of the metal detector. They searched on the web and found a member of TheRingFinders.com that serviced the area. This is how Jessica was able to put her Diamond Ring back on her finger where it belongs!

Lost Platinum Wedding Band in Backyard .. Whittier, CA. .. Recovered after Searching Two Weeks

*** Sergio spent two weeks searching his backyard lawn for his platinum wedding band. It was lost while he was cleaning his barbecue equipment on the lawn. 

I met Sergio at his home in Whittier, CA. the next morning after he called me. After walking into the back yard, he showed me where he had taken his ring off, setting it on a work table. Later his son came out to help his dad clean up. Sergio asked him to  spray off the barbecue grates, etc. which were on the same table as his ring.

Later that night Sergio realized that he didn’t have his ring on. Remembering that it was on the work table, he knew it must be in lawn. Using a flashlight in the dark the ring was not found that night. A couple days later he tried using a metal detector which was also unsuccessful. His last attempt was to pull all the grass from a 20 ft. x 20ft. area. After all that, he called me.

I grid searched the whole lawn several times with out getting a decent signal. Then used my detector to scan 4 bags of clumps of grass that had been pulled from the lawn. 

We had another talk about what other items may have been in the work area. As it could be possible the ring may have fallen into, then moved somewhere on the cement patio. Also the possibility the ring could have may have landed on the cement, rolling under or into another item on the patio. 

As a last resort we began a visual search. Boom! the ring was sitting in plain site on a shelf of one of three barbecues. It was 40ft. away from the location were Sergio had believed the loss occurred. The ring had been sitting there for two weeks, long enough to gather a ring of dust on the shelf where it had laid waiting to be found.

Sergio said he was surprised where the ring was found and couldn’t understand how it ended up in that spot. Nothing surprises me anymore about where these rings are found.

I dropped a ring in my kitchen, heard it hit the floor. Two weeks later I found it in my slippers which I had moved to the bedroom. I’m supposed to be a ring finder, two weeks?

Wife Loses Husband’s Hierloom Gold Diamond Ring in City Lake .. Lawndale, CA. .. Los Angeles County

*** Memo called me, telling me his wife was upset because she had lost a ring in a city lake while feeding ducks. I assumed she had lost her ring but she had actually lost an hierloom ring that was Memo’s. A ring that had belonged to his father that was given to him by his late father.

The day of the loss, Joanna had taken the ring to have it cleaned. On her way home she stopped by the city park lake to feed the ducks. She was wearing the ring on her finger because she thought it was safest place to keep it. As she was feeding the ducks she felt the ring slip off her finger and heard it splash in the lake.

That night Memo returned to the lake with a flashlight spending a couple hours hoping he could recover the ring. The next day he had  a guy with a metal detector search the area without success.

I met Memo and Joanna the third day after the loss of his very sentimental ring. They were upset and losing hope of ever finding this ring. It was helpful to have Joanna there to show me the place she had been standing and how she was gently tossing bread crumbs with a underhand motion.

The lake has a cement bottom without metal rebar which was a good thing. On the other hand the cement bottom made it difficult to retrieve flat metal objects, like coins and pull tabs. I started by dragging a high power magnet through the 20’x 40ft area to remove all the ferrous metals. This lake is more than 50 years old and was surprisingly clean of trash except for many coins. 

I was able to get out to shoulder deep water using a 6” coil which is more efficient in areas with many metal objects which can mask a ring. My plan was to clear this zone before having to dawn my Nemo surface air supply for searching deeper water.

I started off using discriminating modes of my detector. Then I went to all metal mode to remove any signals that can interfere with the detection of the ring. It was a tedious search and time consuming, yielding more than 50 coins.

After more than three hours of searching the relatively small area. Joanna and Memo had been patiently standing by waiting and I’m sure they were losing hope that the ring would be found. They even asked me if I thought the ducks could have eaten the ring. 

Joanna was going to get us some coffee. Just after I told her what I would like. I took one more scoop to retrieve a signal and BOOM!! .. Big Gold and Diamond ring in the scoop.

Right away I told Memo to stop Joanna. I was finished searching. He looked confused why I said that. He said, why? That’s when I held out the scoop saying, because I found your ring.

It was a great reunion of this so sentimental ring. After three days of searching and looking at a real possibility of not finding the ring. Within seconds everything turned into a joyful moment for everyone, including myself.

What an awesome couple and a special pleasure to be able to help Memo and Joanna. A moment to remember forever.!!

Lost Gold Ring…FOUND by Good Samaritan and RETURNED to Rightful Owner!

A lot of us wonder if there are still good people left in this world.  I’m here to tell you that, yes there are!  I met one this morning…

I received a text message from a gentleman on January 3rd, 2021 for a lost ring.  He told me that on December 30th, 2020 he lost his 14K gold ring in the grass by the slides at Brahan Spring Park in Huntsville, Alabama.  He lives in Texas and was just visiting Huntsville for the holidays.  He asked what were the chances that his ring was still there.  I told him that it was still possible since grass can easily hide rings.  But since it was a public area, I needed to get out there ASAP and search.  I grabbed my gear and headed to the park.

Upon arrival at Brahan Spring Park, I sent a photo to confirm I was in the right location.  I immediately noticed that the grass was actually AstroTurf.  Unfortunately, there wasn’t much room for a ring to hide in this AstroTurf, because it was very worn down.  It had already been 4 days since the loss, but I remained positive and started my search.  There were areas around the slides where a ring could hide in some leaves.  I started looking there visually and with my Garrett Pro-Pointer AT.  No ring, so I decided to scan the AstroTurf with My Equinox 800 metal detector just in case the ring did happen to get pushed down or hidden in the seams.  Still no ring.

Across from the slides was more playground equipment with woodchips on the ground.  I decided to expand my grid over there in case his ring landed further than expected.  After a thorough search, still no ring.  I asked the gentleman if he had been anywhere else.  He said no, the grassy area was the only spot and he noticed his ring was missing when he left it.  We came to the conclusion that his ring must’ve been visually seen and picked up by another person.  He thanked me for my efforts.

When I got home from the search on January 3rd, I posted an ad in the Lost and Found section on Craigslist in hopes that it would be seen by the person that picked up the ring.  I also monitor the Lost and Found section on Craigslist for lost items that I may be able to help find.

A few days later, a Craigslist ad for a found gold ring was posted!  The ad stated that the gold ring was found on the AstroTurf near the slides.  They hoped to return the ring to its rightful owner.  I knew that this had to be the ring!  I contacted the poster, Luis, on January 9th and confirmed through a photo that this was indeed the gentleman’s lost 14K gold ring!  I’m so happy that he’ll be getting his ring back!  The gentleman had told me that he thought he would never see his ring again.  I immediately thanked the Lord for answering my prayers!

Luis lives in Hawaii and also happened to be visiting Huntsville for the holidays.  Wow, the journey this ring has taken is incredible!  The ring was lost and found in Huntsville, Alabama on December 30th, 2020.  The person that lost it lives in Texas.  The person that found it lives in Hawaii.  The ring is currently in Hawaii, but will soon be on its way back to the rightful owner in Texas.  Sorry if I confused anyone lol.

Good people still and will always exist.  So never give up hope!  I’ll try to add a photo of the owner with the ring when it gets back to him in Texas.  But for now, here’s a photo of me with a big thumbs up for The Ring Finders Directory!

LOST WEDDING BAND IN HACKBERRY , LA. – FOUND

John was from out of state, working to restore services to the Lake Charles area after the destruction of hurricane Laura. He was sweeping dried mud out of his truck seat when his white gold wedding band flew off his finger. He heard it hit some hurricane debris and before heading to parts unknown in the road ditch. He and a couple of fellow workers moved some of the trash and hand searched the area, No luck. He called Carrie and I the next day for help. Within 2 hours we were on site hunting. Since John had left his own metal detector back home, I lent him mine. After hunting for a few minutes he needed to head back to work and I started hunting. Within an hour, Carrie got a good signal in a thick clump of grass. Neither of us could see the source , so I had to cut and pull some blades of grass from the clump. We both got a visual at the same time. We messaged a picture of the ring to John and soon saw him drive up. Two people had checked that same clump the day before and had not seen the ring. Lots of smiles followed.

Gold Wedding Ring Lost in Sand Box of Park in Playa Vista…Found and Joyfully Returned.

Ashley called me asking for help in finding her husband’s wedding ring which he had lost the day prior at a local park while playing with his young children in the sand box. They had searched for hours trying to find it with no luck. I let her know I could be there within the hour, she agreed, and I was on my way.

When I got to the park, I found Ashley. She had her mother and children with her. She showed me the sandbox, which really was not very big, so I began my search. In about 20 seconds I had a good solid signal, I dug, and there in my scoop was her husband’s ring. Ashley had just gone over to talk with her mother probably thinking she might be there for a while when I held the ring up for her to see. She came over very surprised to see the ring they had searched so diligently for. She was very happy to have it returned, and I was very happy to be a part of her joy this day!
