Early Contact Makes for Best Chances in Lost Ring being Found and Returned, Cape Cod.

A little football in the water seemed like just the thing to start an evening off with. Splish Splash His Ring Took a Bath. And All the Kings Men Could Not Find the Ring again. By chance Patrick read about TheRingFinders.com and contacted me. I made arrangements with a B&B owner to park in his lot and search his beach at a time that would not interfere with his guests. The next morning was set.
Again with a wealth of knowledge as to the area to search it took me only 45 minutes to find the ring.
The B&B owner was made a believer and now has my name and phone number handy should any of his guests need my help. Some inscriptions just need to be explained. Inside this ring was the number 111, which turned out to be the flight number Patrick met his wife on.
The ring’s return took a bit of doing as I was leaving on a weeks vacation and Patrick’s work schedule
just did not allow him to make a trip to Dennis, Ma in the next couple of weeks. The solution was to mail the ring. I have mailed several rings and never had a problem. This time a Tracking ALERT showed his address did not exist and the package was being forward to another town. Monday morning came and a call to the USPS confirmed a computer glitch and the package was to be delivered in that day’s mail. And it was. Just think were we would be without computers. NO METAL DETECTORS?

Lost Ring Yarmouth, MA Leaves Man at Rope’s End

Out for an early morning walk Devin came across a rope swing hanging over a pond. He climbed the tree to reach for the rope and his wedding band, just 362 days old fell from his finger. My search of the never before seen area with heavy brush cover yielded only one target, a silver quarter. Now knowing the area, I call Devin for a bit more information on the ring’s loss. I traded in my Big Foot Coil for a Sniper coil and went back for a second search. I also carried along a ring with an orange tail tied to it. I climbed the tree, dropped the ring and started the search in the area of the dropped ring. Within 6” my detector emitted a golden signal. I bent, moved brush and dirt away…no ring. I still had the signal so more dirt was mover, and with no ring in sight I put my finger under a tree root, removed dirt and the ring. Unfortunately, I found the ring on the 366th day, it was not in its’ proper place on its’ first anniversary. Still the anniversary was a success and the ring is now back where it belongs. Happy days to follow and many more smiles will surely be in Devin and Brenna’s future.

Luck of the Irish – Returning a lost ring on an Hawaiian Island beach!

It didn’t take us long to meet up with newlyweds Paul and Barbara on the beach after we’d gotten their call.

Paul was an Irishman with a new American lass for a wife – but Barbara had done all of the talking on the phone as Paul’s Irish accent was so thick. « Are you Ring Finders? » she asked.

As soon as we heard that Paul hadn’t seen his ring all day we knew we’d have a challenge. And they didn’t know where it could have been lost…!

Paul and Barbara had been married just five days earlier and were enjoying the restaurants and shops near their hotel here on the Big Island of Hawaii. As Paul tried on some Maui Jim sunglasses, he looked as his hand to admire this wedding ring – which was missing!

They’d seen a detectorist in the early morning combing the beach and didn’t want to loose their ring forever – so looked us up online to find and return their ring. We got to their hotel as soon as possible and decided that the small bay they’d spent the morning swimming in was a good place to start. Again, they weren’t sure if it was lost in the water, the sand, the hotel or the shops…!

Paul wasn’t a strong swimmer so we were confident that scuba wouldn’t be necessary though we’d packed our dive gear in the car.

I looked where Paul had rented a stand-up paddleboard while Sylvie searched the sandy bottom where Paul had remembered swimming in the warm, tropical waters of the bay.

Sylvie and I started our grid pattern searches with our metal detectors.

Beaches on the Big Island of Hawaii are so heavily searched by treasure hunters that neither of us hit any of the trash often found on other beaches around the world. We were well into our search pattern – at least 45 minutes – when I heard my name called and saw Paul and Sylvie « high-five’ing » nearby.

Sylvie had been carefully following her search pattern and talking to Paul as he snorkeled and bobbed around her. Suddenly she’d hit a « huge target » in her underwater headphones – then as suddenly, lost the signal. She was so deep in the water that she couldn’t hold the target under her detector and dig the target at the same time.

« Hold the detector here! » she told Paul, handing him her Garrett SeaHunter II, after she’d reacquired the signal. Sylvie dug and nothing. Then dug in the sandy bottom again.

In her scoop was Paul’s lost ring straining out of the sand. Barbara had been watching from beachside and rushed into the water when Sylvie pulled it from her scoop.

We all stood in the water admiring their newly found wedding ring, delighted together in Sylvie’s find. We laughed that Paul could start relaxing again on his honeymoon!

A platinum wedding ring which was lost and found on the beaches of the Kohala Coast, Big Island, Hawaii.

Not knowing where they’d lost it, it seemed it had been the luck of the Irish to reunite them – a small ring in such a large world! Barbara was quick to qualify the reason – she’d been praying to St. Anthony, her patron saint, since they’d discovered the ring had been missing.

God knows the reasons some rings are found or not – and in the end, Paul, Barbara and us at Big Island Metal Detecting are all thankful that we could be part of the discovery of their lost treasure. Especially so early on in their new marriage!

Lost Gold & Diamond Pendant in Cloverdale, BC…Found!

I got an email asking if I could help find a lost pendent the other day so I replied yes I can…We later take on the phone and arranged a time and place to search for the lost diamond pendant.

I showed up to a lovely neighbourhood and met the husband (Howard) of the lady who lost the pendant. He showed me the location and it wasn’t big but had its challenges due to the beautiful flowers and plants in the garden.

When this happens I use the detector in the area but not close to the plants then I come in with the pin pointer to search around the plants and bingo! There it was under a plant in only 1 inch or so in the earth. I love this job because its the best job in the world to be able to find peoples lost smiles!

I asked how he found me and he said while he was looking for a way to search for the ring himself online he found TheRingFinders Directory and thought he’d give it a try.

5 carat diamond ring lost in Golden, Colorado

Nadine was visiting her family in Golden, Colorado from her home state of Indiana. While here she helped put in a play area for grand children and then attended a party that night. During the placement of the pea gravel for the play area Nadine noticed that the 5 carat diamond ring given to her by her husband was a bit loose so she took the ring off and placed it the back pocket of her jeans. After working on the play area Nadine had to quickly get ready as her son and daughter-in-law were having a party. The next morning Nadine went to get her ring our of her pocket and it wasn’t there. Her heart sank. The family searched the house and the yard but her ring was no where to be found.

Nadine found my information on TheRingFinders and called me. We made arrangements for me to perform a search that night after work. After my arrival we talked and Nadine showed me around the house and the yard. I grabbed my CTX and headed for the search area in the yard. I had nearly completed my search of the play area when Nadine came out and said I might as well stop my search. She had talked with a woman who was at the party and she specifically remembered that Nadine did have her ring on that evening.

I asked Nadine if she would like me to help re-search the house for her. She was a bit reluctant due to the families diligent search of the house but she agreed to my assistance. I started in her bedroom and searched in her dressers, the bathroom, under desks and in and around the night stands and bed. I ended up going through her laundry hamper, searching each and every piece of clothing very carefully. Finally at the bottom of the hamper I noticed a cardboard bottom and under that the ring was hiding. I placed her ring on my figure and headed up the stairs to talk with Nadine. As I reached midpoint of the stairs I started holding my chin, unfortunately Nadine had her back to me while we talked for 30-45 seconds. When she turned around and noticed the ring she started crying and jumping around in excitement.

Ring Lost at Trapeze School .. Santa Monica, CA. .. Found Under Pier

Friday night Philip had been attending a session at a Trapeze School of New York located on the Santa Monica Pier. They have a place to put their street shoes and valuables. Unfortunately, when Philip retrieved his ring from his shoe, where he had put it while training on the trapeze, he dropped his palladium wedding ring on the wooden pier. It bounced and rolled right through a crack in the planking dropping 25 feet to the dry sand below the pier.
The city beach maintenance department attempted the look for the ring the next day, thinking it may have landed one of the maintenance catwalks or hung up in the netting used to control pigeons nesting under the pier. After not finding the ring the city crew suggested Philip Google search TheRingFinders.com online.
Philip contacted me explaining what happened and that he would not be available to meet me at the location, but he would be able talk to me on the phone if I had any other questions. I called him as I got close to where I thought he first described to me. He talked me into finding the location of the Trapeze school. They showed me where the ring had fallen through the pier. This pier is probably 300 ft wide and I had to take some reference points, hoping get near the exact location under the pier.
It was dark and spooky under the pier, definitely a place not to be at night. There was a lot of electrical interference with my metal detector, but I was able to tune most of that out with a few adjustments. Twenty minutes of searching was all it took to find the ring.
I sent Philip a photo of his ring and I was able to return the ring an hour later. It was great to see how happy he was to get his ring back where it belongs.

Dorm Key Lost in Riverside, CA…Found.

I received a call from Abner about his dorm key that was lost as he was out jogging around a local park. I had a commitment that kept me from going on the day of his call, but we arranged to meet the next morning. He told me that this was his dorm key from his university (UC Riverside), and he was told that if he did not produce the key on the day I came, that the school was going to charge him an exorbitant amount of money to get him a new key because they would have to change out the lock as well. I could hear his desperation when he called, and being a student, I realized it would be difficult for him to come up with the sum the school would require of him.

I had a 73 mile drive, and the traffic was good which allowed me to arrive at our appointed time. Abner showed me the area where he knew the key was lost, as he told me he felt it leave his hand as he was running. I explained that I would search the area he showed me, and if it wasn’t found, I would begin a search « outside of the box ». As I searched, I encountered quite a bit of metallic objects, but none of them turned out to be the key. Abner then sat down, and it seemed he was getting a bit discouraged, but I figured it was time to stretch the search area. I went out about 10 to 15 feet further when I got a good hit on the detector. I pulled my pinpointer out and started to reach down, when I was able to see the key slightly covered by some grass, but on top. It was surprising that even though I knew something was there, it was almost invisible.

Well when I came up with the key, I could see the relief come over Abner’s face. He was surely happy he did not have dig into his « starving student » fund to replace it. He and I just sat down afterwards and talked a while about school and life in general, as I have a son about his age in college as well. It was nice meeting him, and being able to make his day.

Diamond Wedding Band Lost in Yard in Burbank, CA…Found.

I received a call from Derrick this morning asking for help in finding his wife’s wedding ring. He and his wife had been carving pumpkins in the back yard yesterday in anticipation of Halloween, and so as not to get her beautiful diamond wedding ring covered with pumpkin goop, she decided to remove it and place it on the blanket they were using. When they were done Derrick lifted the blanket, forgetting the ring was on it, and it disappeared into the grass. He told me they searched for a while right after the loss, but it was getting dark fast making a visual search harder. He then got up this morning with the new light and conducted a more thorough search of the area with no luck. He began to do some research on the Internet, and found me on TheRingFinders.com web site. I was due home in about 15 minutes, and told him I would leave for his location as soon as I got my equipment together.

I arrived at his house, and he invited me to the location of the loss, wherein I was looking at a rather large yard of nicely manicured grass, and figured it may take a while to search for this one. Derrick showed me where they were sitting, and what he had done to the blanket. He didn’t think he had flipped it too hard, but you never know with such a small item that can fly quite a distance with minimal effort, so I resolved to myself that I would be searching the whole yard. Thinking in that mindset, I started in the most likely beginning point. I swung my detector 2 times hearing many multiple high tones like rusted nails, and thought this might end up being very difficult. I swung once more and heard what I was listening for, not believing that I could have found it so soon, but went down with my pinpointer, and located his wife’s ring, all in about 10 seconds. I reached down and brought it up to show an unbelieving Derrick. I got to thinking that he might have thought I brought the ring with me, and had it in my hand when I began the search, because it was found so fast.

Derrick was very happy to have the ring that he gave his wife on their wedding day to give back to her today. I could tell it meant a lot to him, and am sure his wife was ecstatic to have it on her finger again. He did not want his full picture taken, but did allow a bust shot of him holding the ring. Trust me he was smiling, and very happy. I was glad to have made his day. The story of this ring continues.

My wife and I really didn’t know what to do when she lost her wedding ring in our yard.  It was in our own backyard yet for some reason it still nearly impossible to find.  After hours of looking in our own yard with no luck, we felt sorta hopeless.  I spent sometime researching what I could do online and it was either buy/rent an expensive metal detecting device or see if someone who knew what they were doing could help us out.  After reading some success stories at the ring finders, I decided it couldn’t hurt.  I called Steve on a Sunday and even though I live about 35 miles away from where he was, he still was nice enough to come by.  It was the best idea I had.  Like Steve mentioned, within seconds he found my wife’s ring.  It was such a relief not only for me, but for my wife, of course, who thought her ring was for sure lost forever.  Take it from me, if you lose a ring, give someone on this sight a call, they know what they are doing and can help turn what could be a terrible situation into a cute little story.
