Last week Merle realized that her wedding band was missing after she gave her dog a bath on her deck. She searched through the leaves but did not find the ring. That’s when she found me. After gathering some information from her daughter, Brooke, I started to search in the leaves and ivy near the deck. A few minutes later, the ring was recovered!

While I was helping a neighbor with a computer problem, Chris called asking about help in finding his lost wedding band. He thought it might have been lost while burying his deceased cat. The answer to his question on how deep the detector could “see” a ring was not what he wanted to hear. The cat’s grave was some two and a half feet deep and my detectors typically can “see” a ring at about 12 inches. With this information, Chris new he would have to remove some of the dirt before I would be able to scan the full depth of the grave. He said he would call me back.
About an hour before sunset I received the call asking if I could come and search the area. I left home with the anticipation of finding the wedding band. When I arrived at Chris’s home, he had already sieved the dirt removed from the grave and no ring was found. I scanned the grave site with no indication of anything metal. I then began a search of the areas where Chris had also been doing yard work. As the sun set I brought out my flashlight is hopes of spotting a flash of gold in the darkness. Another half hour passed and I found “the” ring right on top of the ground. I returned to the house, put the ring in my hand and my card over it. Inside Chris’s house I let Chris take the card from my hand as I said “please take “your” ring also”. The joy of getting his ring back turned to sorrow as Chris said “this is not my ring”. How could that be? Neither he nor Leah, his wife, knew of anyone that might have lost a wedding band in their yard. The closest known loss of a ring was that of Leah’s father, Eric, had lost his ring at the beach this summer, not in the yard. As it turned out that Eric indeed did loose his band while cutting down a tree in Chris’s yard and not at the beach. I am glad I had not been asked to look for it at the beach. However a call to Vermont confirmed it was more than likely to be Eric’s ring. Now it was to dark to continue searching so I left for the night with a promise to return the next day.
The next day’s search of two hours turned up nothing except a long lost mail box key and a few coins. Not having any luck with my detector of choice I exchanged it for my second choice detector. Just to have a different “set of eye” and I continued to search the area again. Another hour and I was ready to call it quits for the day. I walked back to the car, I was just dragging the detector across the ground and next to the rear wood porch I heard one signal and it sounded good. The coil of my detector was unable to give me a pin-point location so I put my hand held pin-pointer to work getting closer to the wood riser. There it was. The ring I had been looking for some 5 hours. This “one” was verified as “the one” by Leah. Chris was at work, so I could not give the ring to him at that time. I left the ring with Leah who promised to sent me pictures of the return. Not bad, in two days time, two wedding bands found in one yard and returned to two members of the same family. Needless to say there were big smiles all around including the biggest one the one on my face.

Today was a day of metal detecting for me. I started off by diving in a lake looking for a wedding ring lost 2 years ago to which I didn’t find. After coming home and cleaning up my gear I wrote a lady back who asked if I would travel to Post Falls, Idaho for a ring search. After dinner my Family and I went to a newly discovered park near our house to play. I was swinging my Whites detector around the playground when Charlayne, the lady who wrote me from Post Falls, called. I asked a few questions and found out that she had lost her ring in the front yard or the back after placing it in her pocket with a hole at the bottom. She also told me that she had rented a metal detector and raked both yards with no luck. I said I would be right over. My family and I drove 32 minutes to reach her house. After putting on my gear and seeing a picture of the ring Charlayne left me to my work. Which was a short job. I made my way from the front steps to the mail box like Charlayne said she had done and found a small foil wrapping under a fresh dug hole. So I made a second pass on the other side back to the steps and then back down for a third pass. I was about half way to the mail box when WHAM!! A solid 13-14 vdi at depth of 0 inches rang up and my pinpointer showed me why well cared for grass hides rings the best. After taking a picture of the ring hidden in the grass I smiled at my wife who was watching me from the car. I then headed to the back of the house to find Charlayne, her face went from worried anticipation to fourth of July fire work happy. After I showed her the spot where her ring had fallen out of the hole in her pocket and hid from her for a week; we said our goodbyes and took her advice to have some ice cream at Rogers. A woman recently contacted me to discuss a ring she lost while playing with her dog in Westerly, RI. The last memory of her lost ring was from Father’s Day earlier in the week.
Once I arrived, we began walking around the yard, discussing the number of places she could have lost the ring while playing fetch and bathing her dog. The ring search started at the hose where she washed the family dog. Just as I finished searching the grassy area where the dog was getting bathed, the ring owner asked me to check the bushes where the hose connected to the house. An immediate signal rang through the metal detector just under one of the bushes. I brushed aside a few wood chips, and there it was! Another lost ring handed down from generation to generation was found and reunited with its owner!

On Saturday I received a call from Mr. Sal about looking for a lost ring. Apparently, after taking down his Christmas decorations, he noticed that his white gold ring was no longer on his little finger. He said he usually only wears it when they go out and on special occasions, but figured he could take down the decorations and just leave it on because they had plans to go out later that evening. As he was finishing putting things away he realized his ring was missing. (This white gold ring with a blue sapphire was given to Sal as a graduation gift from his parents over 60 years ago and it held allot of sentimental value in his heart and mind.) So Sal began looking through the decorations thinking maybe it dropped into one of the bags or boxes. Then he went outside to check the yard and grass and even the stone areas, thinking it could have dropped off there. But NOTHING!
Sal then began checking around where he could rent a metal detector and finally found a store. So he called and talked to one of the sales representatives, who informed Sal that this particular store was up in Boston, MA. and it would be quite expensive to ship a metal detector down to Florida and all. The sales rep. then told Sal about a group called Theringfinders that helps people find their lost rings and surely there would be someone in the Central Florida area that could help him out. And that’s how Sal found me!
I arranged to meet Mr. Sal on Sunday at his home and he showed me the areas where he took down his decorations. It was a relatively small area and it took only 15 minutes or so to cover the most likely spots with my DFX–but I was unable to find his ring. Mr. Sal then mentioned that he had particular trouble around the metal light post getting the string of lights untangled. So I decided to check the base of the post again. This time I got a faint signal on the street side and dropped to my knees and pulled out my trusty Garrett pin pointer–(Thank you Chris!!). And sure enough, there under the thick grass was Sal’s beautiful ring. I stuck the ring on my finger and held it up for Sal to see and the look on his face was priceless!!

I received a text from a girl named Linda (on Monday 11-23-15) while I was hunting. She asked me if I could help find her ring. She had lost her ring she received for her 15th birthday while walking. It had been two weeks since she had lost it while walking. It was Saturday, I told her I will be back in town Sunday and I could come Monday after work. She said okay. I received another text, a family member went into the hospital and the ring had to wait. (When things settled down I texted Linda and we set up a day. She said sure but it’s probably gone. It’s been a month I said no we are not giving up.) I finally was able to search for her ring two weeks after the initial call. I made the 45 minute drive from broken arrow. When I got there her brother met me, he took me two houses down from their’s. He showed me the area the size of a house door. I was have way thru the area when I got a great signal, I bent down with my whites TRX pinpointer and guess what it was just below the grass level. I asked, her brother if this was her ring he smiled and said yes. I started to call Linda as she was out of town he said wait. He wanted to surprise her I said Kool. A smile is worth it all when something is found that was once lost.Thanks Linda and Guillermo…..
Thousands of people across this great land drop things every day in their yards! Some of those things are found and many are never recovered. Nancy had lost a very special ring in her front yard months earlier and now was in the process of moving out. Back at the beginning of the year she was having fun with a snow ball fight in her back yard. During the throwing and tossing of snowballs her wedding ring became missing. She thought that she lost the ring while she was taking off her gloves to clean her glasses. She and friends looked throughout the yard without any luck. Then she found myself though TheRingFinder.com website and was happy that someone was in the area and still finding rings for others. Got a call from Linda tuesday at work said her husband lost his wedding ring while playing in the swimming pool with the kids . I asked her if they looked in the pool she said yes and even the skimmer yes on that also. Her husband had to leave town on business.. He got home later that night and to no ring as darkness was on us… Now three days later Linda texted me again asked if i could come and check her neighbors yard- searched for bout an hour and said let’s go try your yard again.. This time instead of going to the left and going over what i did tuesday i went to the right. His wife told me he rented a metal detector from a local shop with no luck. It always best to find someone in your area that is experienced with a metal detector that can help you out as soon as possible and get the lost ring back were it belongs.. Got started with a grid search went to the back fence and back towards the house and got a good signal by the porch bent down and there it was saying you found me picked it up Tom didnt see me and said i needed to go to my truck went thru the house and showed his wife.. She couldnt believe it.. I got my camera out and acted like nothing happened at this time tom was inside the house getting something to drink.. i asked Linda to go get tom so i could ask him what his wedding ring looked like again.. He looked down and when he did i said does it look like this one — tears flowed from Linda and Tom.. I asked him how he felt and said he didnt think it was never to be seen again thanks for the very generous reward Tom&Linda
