Got a text message about a lost ring in Torch Lake MI. Owner had lost it 8 years prior throwing a ball back and forth. Loaded up the jet ski and rode out to their house and started the search on the suspected location. Was about 40 mins later and found the ring within 10 ft of owners circled area. Olympians Hunter Woodhall and Tara Davis lost 2 gold rings in their backyard. RingFinders to the rescue! On July 11th, Jen and her husband Ryan—married for just one single month—were enjoying a beautiful Maine summer day on the beach in Ocean Park, Maine with 15 to 20 of their closest family and friends.
Suddenly, the unthinkable happened. Jen went to remove her engagement ring, and it ????????? ???? ????? ??? ??? ??????, vanishing deep into the sand somewhere in front of her. ?
The entire group jumped into action, searching the sand, but couldn’t find a trace of it. That’s when someone in the crowd made the brilliant suggestion to call The Ring Finders of Maine! ?
When the call came in, I was actually an hour away at Sebago Lake Maine , knee-deep in a water search for another lost wedding ring. I told the Ocean Park crew that Cheryl and I would head their way the second I finished.
Talk about luck—just 5 minutes later, I recovered the ring at Sebago Lake!
I immediately called Jen’s group back to let them know we were on our way. I gave them two crucial pieces of advice: ???? ?????????? ??? ????, ??? ???? ??? ???? ????? ???? ??????? ?? ??????.
When we arrived in Ocean Park an hour later, the whole group warmly greeted us. Jen showed me exactly where she was standing and the direction the ring flew.
And let me tell you, this group did a phenomenal job—they used children’s beach toys to create a large circle around the entire hot zone! A truly brilliant move. ??️
I kicked off my grid search at the top of the toy circle, working my way down toward the ocean. I finished my first pass, turned around, and started heading back toward the shore.
About 3/4 of the way back…????! I got the exact tone I was hoping for on my metal detector. ?
I pulled out my pinpointer, cleared the sand, and pulled out Jen’s beautiful engagement ring!
The second the ring cleared the sand, the entire beach exploded into cheering and clapping! ??
The heavy tension in the air instantly evaporated, replaced by pure joy and relief.

Sunday morning, I received a call from Erin inquiring if I might be able to help find her earring that was lost in her yard. She explained that nine or ten days prior, she had been spreading fertilizer on the lawn. She drove below a low-hanging branch, and felt it catch on her ear. She quickly stopped, and found the back of the earring on her shirt, but the diamond stud was gone. She checked her clothing , the lawn tractor, and immediate area, but didn’t find it.
Erin then did what many others do, acquired a metal detector. She had the matching earring, but her detector couldn’t find the small amount of 14k gold in the mount. Then Google search, found me, and made the call.
It was great timing, and I was able to go over later in the day. I loaded two of my best suited detectors and headed out.
Arrived, met Erin, and went over the details. She had the other earring, so we placed it in a small ziplock. I dropped it on the lawn and ran the first detector over it. Nothing. Made several adjustments to settings, but still struggled to get a good response. Switched to the trusty Manticore with a 10” coil, and in gold field mode with some adjustments, I was able to get a faint but repeatable response. I held onto the other earring as a reference, and began searching. Shortly into the search I decided to switch to a smaller 8” coil. Recalibration on the detector, and started again. Shortly thereafter, I hit a perfect target, good tone and display. Looking down, I saw the missing item slightly buried in the ground.
Erin was close by, so I said “I got it” and she excitedly came over. When she got to me, I of course couldn’t find it visually, and it took a few moments to find it again with the Manticore.
It’s always so gratifying to hand over something to another person they thought was lost forever.
This was a challenging search, with a great outcome. It was also amazing to meet people who traveled the same path as me, and reconnect with shared memories.
He is out of the Doghouse in Sandbridge VA! They put their wedding rings in the back of a zippered beach chair but forgot to zip it up. They did not realize they were missing until they got back home. They called me and I came out and started gridding the area. The first one was found about 10 feet away from where they thought and the second one about 3 feet from that. Glad to get them back to them.
Saturday afternoon I received a phone call from Dennis of the RingFinders Of Maine. He had given my contact information to a gentleman with a lost ring in Unity Maine. I was contacted minutes later by Eric who had lost a ring in waste deep water while throwing a football. WE made arrangements to meet the next morning at the camp.
Once there, I got the rest of the story. Eric was attending a bachelor’s party and they were throwing a football in the water. To catch a high ball, he jumped and reached with his left hand. He caught the ball and felt something hit the top of his head. He asked his friend if he had thrown a rock as well. Approximately 5 minutes later, he noticed that his wedding ring was missing and figured immediately that that was what had hit him in the head.
I thought to myself, [not outloud so as not to jinx myself], this hunt is going to be easy.
After getting my metal detector and gear put together, I asked Eric to direct me to the spot he recalled being in. The bottom of the pond seemed to be a thin layer of mud, some vegetation and gravel type rocks. The first target wasn’t the VID number I was hoping for, yet I wanted to get it up to be sure. Retrieving the first target proved to be a challenge as the rocks were embedded in the mud and clay which made scooping a target difficult. AFter seven attempts, i finally got that first target that was a fishing lure!! I said out loud “I got it!”. Eric and his friends, exclaimed “You got it?!!!”. I had to say « no no, not the ring, just this darn fishing lure »
The second target was a penny. The third target had the perfect VID number of 43 which is what I was looking for. I managed to retrieve the target with the second attempt and it was the ring! I said out loud this time , “NOW I have the ring”.

5 Rings Lost — 1 Recovered by NJ Ring Finder on the Jersey Shore
Elizabeth was enjoying a beautiful day at the Jersey Shore, soaking up the sun and having fun swimming and relaxing on the beach. To keep her jewelry safe, she removed all five of her rings and placed them carefully on her beach blanket.
As the day came to an end, Elizabeth began packing up. When she picked up the towel to shake it out, all five rings flew off into the sand. She managed to recover four of them, but one special ring was still missing.
After searching without success, she decided to call me — Edward Trapper, the NJ Ring Finder — a name she heard from several beachgoers nearby. We made arrangements to meet later that evening. The beach was mostly empty by then, which made things easier. Thankfully, Elizabeth had marked the location where she believed the rings had landed, just as I had asked.
I started searching the area she pointed out but came up empty. That’s when I asked her to demonstrate exactly how she shook out the towel. With strong southwest winds blowing, she showed me that she had been facing north when she did it. Based on that detail, I widened the search and adjusted my direction.
Just one additional pass in the new area and I had the missing ring in my scoop!
Elizabeth was stunned — and thrilled. It’s amazing how the smallest details can make all the difference.
Kirstyn and her boyfriend Jay were in town visiting family. On a 90 degree day in Minnesota they decide to head down and take a dip in the local lake. They jumped off a dock into approx. 4 feet of water. While swimming around and cooling off , Kirstyn saw a fish really close to her. This kind of freaked her out and she waved her hands underwater to shew the fish away. When she did, her Gold heirloom ring slip off and sank to the bottom. The visibility in this lake isn’t great, after sinking a foot or so, the ring disappeared. They both searched and searched to no avail. Jay even came back with a snorkel, though the bottom of the lake is a bit mucky and you really can’t see anything while stirring it up. This ring was priceless to Kristyn as it was her Great Grandmothers ring originally. Her Great Grandma gave it to Kirstyn’s Grandma and then it was given to her when she graduated college. They contacted me through theringfinders.com and we met the next day. It was a quick 5 minute search and the ring is back where it belongs.
