I received a call from Barbara Ann. Barbara explained that she had spent the day on the beach, here in Cape May, this past Sunday. While at the beach she had removed her watch before going for a swim in the ocean. She placed her watch in the pocket of her cover up for safe keeping. Later in the day she gathered her belongings and headed off the beach. Shortly after returning home she realized that her watch was still in her cover up. When she went to retrieve it, it was gone. Barbara immediately returned to the beach and began searching where she had been sitting that day. after a while, searching, she came up empty-handed and began researching her options. I received a call from Phil yesterday just ahead of an incoming storm. Phil explained that he was exiting the ocean and shook off his hands when his wedding ring slipped off and was immediately swallowed up by a passing wave. Phil and his wife searched the shallow with no success. Given the time of day, current tide schedule and approaching storm I decided it would be best to attempt recovery during this morning low tide. Phil did an excellent job of marking the area with a pin and taking reference photos. This morning I arrived on the beach at Phils pinned location and began searching. After about an hours time I swung my coil over Phils ring and recovered it from approx 14” down in the sand! Phil and his family finished breakfast and met me on Decatur St beach, here in Cape May and retrieved his ring. Another successful recovery, another saved vacation!

Lost gold & diamond medallion, FOUND! North Cape May, New Jersey

I received a call from Bree. Bree explained that she had attended a wedding on the bay, here, in Lower Twp. While at the wedding, Bree had lost a very special medallion from her necklace. This particular piece was a gift upon her retirement from The United Stated Coast Guard. This was probably one of the oldest pieces I have recovered for someone as she explained that this piece dates back to the 1650’s! Bree believed that the medallion may have been pulled off by a child she was holding at some point during the ceremony. Bree and her family had returned several times with sand sifters, spending hours searching for the piece with no luck. Bree explained that she and her family had even considered purchasing their own detector but weren’t sure of the quality and pricing of what they found locally and how to properly use the device. After gathering some specifics, I proceeded down to Bay drive and began my search. Luckily Bree was able to provide some great photos of where the wedding had taken place on the beach that day. After about 10 minutes of searching, I managed to recover the medallion and circle clasp that attached it. When Bree arrived to meet me I told her that she didn’t need to get sandy as I already had her medallion recovered, much to her amazement and relief. Happy tears began flowing! Another happy ending, another successful recovery!

I received a call from Kim & Daniela. They explained that they had spent the day at Pearl beach in Cape May Point. At some point during their visit, Danielas gold wedding ring went missing. She wasn’t sure when it was lost during their visit, but she was confident that it was at the beach as she was sure it was on her finger when they arrived earlier in the day and noticed it was gone just after leaving the beach. Daniela was concerned that it may be in the water as she had spent some time swimming as well. I met Kim & Daniela on the beach and we identified the areas they had been while visiting. I began grid searching the area where they had been sitting on the beach first. I made a few passes over the area and found Danielas ring a few inches beneath the dry sand. Tears of joy & relief were flowing! Daniela truly thought it was “gone forever” Another happy ending, another successful recovery!

I received a call from Nick this afternoon. Nick explained that his wife could not locate her two wedding rings after spending a day on the beach in Wildwood New Jersey. Nick and his wife had checked everywhere and we’re unable to locate the rings. I took the short ride over and met a couple on the beach where they had already marked out a distinct area where they believe the rings could be. Nick‘s wife Christine explained that she had removed the rings for safekeeping to place in her purse. However, upon returning to the hotel, the rings were not in her purse and she was fearing that they had dropped out while she was on the beach. I began searching a fairly tight pattern, and in less than two minutes, I heard the lovely low growl of a gold target. Out popped the diamond engagement ring from the sand! One more sweep across the same area and out came the wedding band! Christine was elated with tears of joy, and understandably so, they are a beautiful set of rings!! Last evening I received a call from Jess. Jess explained that she was enjoying some time with family and friends at Tidewaters in Margate, New Jersey. Jess had taken her phone out while attempting to capture the sunset when the phone slipped from her hand and disappeared into the murky depths below the dock she was standing on. After speaking with Jess, we coordinated a time to meet that coincided with this mornings low tide.  I met up with Jess and her mother this morning and they directed me to the area where the phone went in. After about an hour of sifting thru black mud, crabs, clams, and metal debris I managed to locate Jess’s phone. The device was still on and appeared to be completely undamaged from the ordeal. As with most folks now a days a good portion of their captured memories reside on their phone so getting it back was a huge relief for Jess. Another successful recovery another happy client!

I received a call from Ron. Ron explained that his granddaughter’s necklace broke while they were on the beach at Howard Street here in Cape May. His granddaughter was able to locate the broken chain however, there was a charm that was given to her by her mother that disappeared into the sand. Unfortunately, by the time she realized the chain was broken and sliding off the charm was already gone. She believed it may be in the area where they were sitting, but was not certain. I took the short ride over and met them on the beach. Once they moved their chairs and belongings out of the way, I began checking the area around the umbrella. After about a minute and a half of searching, my detector admitted a low growl commonly associated with that of a gold target . One shallow scoop later I had the charm in the scoop. She immediately began crying, and the rest of the beach began clapping. She didn’t think that it could be found given its size, but this is another true example of how even though something is small, the sentimental value attached to it means so much more than the monetary value or the size of the item. Another successful recovery, happy ending!

Lost iPhone, FOUND! By Jeffrey Laag

I received a call from Tom. Tom explained that after enjoying a day fishing he dropped his iPhone off the dock and into the murky muddy bottom of the Commodore Marina in Avalon, NJ. We arranged to meet the following day so that we could catch the low tide as it would be the most practical time to attempt to recover the phone. I arrived the next day, about an hour before dead low tide, ahead of Tom. Tom explained that he was cleaning some trigger fish when he accidentally knicked his hand while cleaning the fish with a knife. He picked up his phone and was trying to call his buddy over so that he could tend to his wound when the phone slipped from his grip and dropped into the water. Tom and marina staff attempted to retrieve the phone with nets and magnet but were not successful. Tom provided very good location specifics so as soon as I arrived I began checking the area. As soon as I plunged the detector into the water I immediately detected a loud signal, typically associated with a large target. After two scoops I had the phone in my scoop and it was still on and functioning, all before Tom arrived! Another happy ending another successful recovery!
