Gold Stud Earring Lost In The Grass, Found With A Metal Detector, In Scarborough, Maine

On July 15th, I got a heartbreaking call from Emily, a local real estate agent. ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ’ผ
The night before, she was playing volleyball at Memorial Park in Scarborough, Maine. ๐Ÿ

๐Ÿ“ Side note: This park is so nostalgic for meโ€”itโ€™s the site of the old Portland Twin Drive-In Theatre! ๐ŸŽฌ๐Ÿฟ

During a big play at the net, Emily jumped high and brushed against the mesh. ๐Ÿฅ…

In a split second, her custom earring slipped out and vanished into the thick grass. ๐ŸŒฟ

Emily and her friends searched on their hands and knees but found absolutely nothing. ๐ŸŒพ

This wasnโ€™t just any jewelry. Emily used to be a professional jeweler. ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ

She had designed and handcrafted this specific gold earring herself. ๐ŸŽจ

She left the park completely devastated. ๐Ÿ˜ž

Most people think metal detectors find jewelry instantly. ๐Ÿช™

But tiny stud earrings are the ultimate test of skill and gear. ๐ŸŽ›๏ธ

They contain an incredibly minute amount of precious metal. ๐Ÿค

When they fall into thick grass, they rarely lay flat. ๐ŸŒฑ

Standard detecting programs look for round, dense targets like coins or thick wedding bands. ๐Ÿช™๐Ÿ’

A vertical, microscopic gold post has an electromagnetic footprint that is almost non-existent. ๐Ÿ“‰

Standard factory programs will simply ignore it or filter it out as ground noise. ๐Ÿ”‡

To give us a fighting chance, I swapped to my agile 8″ coil. ๐Ÿ”„

I booted up the Minelab Manticore’s specialized ยซย Gold Fieldย ยป program. ๐Ÿ‘‘

This mode is engineered to sniff out tiny, low-conductive gold that other detectors miss. โœจ

Emily met me at the park at 1:30 PM, right after I got back from York. ๐Ÿš—

She had smartly marked the exact net post hole with a small tree branch. ๐ŸŒฟ

I started a tight, overlapping grid search on her side of the net. ๐Ÿฅ…

Nothing but faint iron mineralization from the soil. ๐Ÿงฑ

I crossed over to the opposing team’s side of the net and kept swinging. ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ

After 5 to 6 minutes of methodical scanning… BANG! โšก

A sharp, beautifully repeatable audio signal broke through my headphones. ๐ŸŽง

Having had two complete and total knee replacements, dropping down to the ground wasn’t happening. ๐Ÿฆฟ๐Ÿฆฟ

Instead, I carefully bent over and used my handheld pinpointer to narrow down the grass blades. ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐ŸŒพ

As I slowly parted the turf with my fingers, there it wasโ€”gleaming bright yellow in the dirt! โœจ๐Ÿฅ‡

Emily spotted it at the exact same millisecond. ๐Ÿ‘๏ธโญ

(If you haven’t seen her reaction yet, go watch the video Reel I posted last night!) ๐ŸŽฅ๐Ÿ‘‡

She started jumping up and down with her hands in the air, celebrating wildly! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ’ƒ

๐Ÿ™Œ ยซย WOW, thank you so much!ย ยป she shouted. ๐Ÿ“ฃ๐ŸŽ‰

Seeing that pure joy and relief is exactly why I do this. โค๏ธ

This actually marks my third volleyball court recovery of the year. ๐ŸŽ‰

Newlywedโ€™s Engagement Ring Lost In The Beach Sand, Found With A Metal Detector, In Ocean Park, Maine Old Orchard Beach

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)

๐Ÿ’ FOUND AT THE BEACH! ๐ŸŒŠโœจ

Talk about a rollercoaster of a day for a couple of newlyweds!

On July 11th, Jen and her husband Ryanโ€”married for just one single monthโ€”were enjoying a beautiful Maine summer day on the beach in Ocean Park, Maine with 15 to 20 of their closest family and friends.

Suddenly, the unthinkable happened. Jen went to remove her engagement ring, and it ๐ฅ๐ข๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐š๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐Ÿ๐ฅ๐ž๐ฐ ๐ซ๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ญ ๐จ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ ๐ก๐ž๐ซ ๐Ÿ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ž๐ซ, vanishing deep into the sand somewhere in front of her. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

The entire group jumped into action, searching the sand, but couldn’t find a trace of it. Thatโ€™s when someone in the crowd made the brilliant suggestion to call The Ring Finders of Maine! ๐Ÿ“ž

When the call came in, I was actually an hour away at Sebago Lake Maine , knee-deep in a water search for another lost wedding ring. I told the Ocean Park crew that Cheryl and I would head their way the second I finished.

Talk about luckโ€”just 5 minutes later, I recovered the ring at Sebago Lake!

I immediately called Jen’s group back to let them know we were on our way. I gave them two crucial pieces of advice:

When we arrived in Ocean Park an hour later, the whole group warmly greeted us. Jen showed me exactly where she was standing and the direction the ring flew.

And let me tell you, this group did a phenomenal jobโ€”they used childrenโ€™s beach toys to create a large circle around the entire hot zone! A truly brilliant move. ๐Ÿงธ๐Ÿ–๏ธ

I kicked off my grid search at the top of the toy circle, working my way down toward the ocean. I finished my first pass, turned around, and started heading back toward the shore.

About 3/4 of the way back…๐๐Ž๐Ž๐Œ! I got the exact tone I was hoping for on my metal detector. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

I pulled out my pinpointer, cleared the sand, and pulled out Jen’s beautiful engagement ring!

The second the ring cleared the sand, the entire beach exploded into cheering and clapping! ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ‘

The heavy tension in the air instantly evaporated, replaced by pure joy and relief.

Gold And Platinum Wedding Ring Lost In The Water Of Sebago Lake, Found With A Metal Detector, In Standish, Maine

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)

๐Ÿ’ SAVED FROM SEBAGO LAKE! ๐Ÿšจ

It was supposed to be the ultimate bachelor weekend getaway.
A group of lifelong friends. A stunning waterfront lake house in Standish, Maine. Perfect weather over beautiful Sebago Lake Maine. ๐ŸŒŠ

But what happened next turned a perfect weekend into a full-blown emergencyโ€ฆ ๐Ÿ˜ณ

โ˜€๏ธ THE MOMENT EVERYTHING CHANGED โ˜€๏ธ

Nick was out in the water enjoying Sebago Lakeโ€”tossing a football, swimming, and floating around with the guysโ€”when disaster struck.

His gold and platinum wedding ring suddenly slipped off his finger.

Before anyone could reactโ€ฆ it disappeared beneath the surface. Gone. Just like that. ๐Ÿ˜ณ

The panic set in immediately.

Imagine having to make that phone call to your wife from a bachelor party weekendโ€ฆ YIKES!!! ๐Ÿ’

๐Ÿ’ฅ Determined not to give up, the bachelor crew jumped into action.

They swam, waded, and searched the area themselves. Smartly, they even placed two large stones on the lake bed to mark the exact drop zone.

But finding a ring in waist- to chest-deep water is nearly impossible by hand.

Despite their best effortsโ€ฆ the ring was still missing.

๐Ÿ“ž โ€œWE NEED HELPโ€ฆโ€ (THIS IS WHEN WE WERE CALLED) ๐Ÿ“ž

Realizing they were running out of time, Nick contacted The Ring Finders of Maine.

Cheryl and I immediately loaded up my fully waterproof metal detecting gear and headed to Standish, Maine and Sebago Lake, Maine.

When we arrived, the guys showed us the stone markers they had placedโ€”perfect reference points.

We geared up, entered the water, and began a careful grid search.

๐ŸŽ‰ 10 MINUTES LATERโ€ฆ THIS HAPPENED ๐ŸŽ‰

I swept the detector back across the marked areaโ€ฆ

Nothing.

I adjusted slightly and continued the grid pattern.

Still nothing.

Then I turned just a bit farther leftโ€ฆ and everything changed. ๐Ÿ‘€

A clean, unmistakable signal rang out through my headphones.

I scooped the sand, swirled it in the waterโ€ฆ and there it was.

๐Ÿ’ Nickโ€™s gold and platinum wedding ring.

I lifted it high and said:

โ€œGold & platinum?โ€

The entire group erupted in cheers. The energy was unbelievable. ๐ŸŽ‰

Nickโ€™s relief said it allโ€”what started as a disaster was now a full recovery.

And best of allโ€ฆ no dreaded phone call home needed. ๐Ÿ™Œ

We have the best job in the world. We love our job.

Sterling Silver Engagement Ring AND Key Fob Lost In Range Pond State Park, Found With A Metal Detector In Poland, Maine

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)

๐Ÿšจ THE IMPOSSIBLE DOUBLE RECOVERY AT Range Pond State Park! ๐Ÿšจ

Cheryl, Gary, and I love our jobsโ€”we truly have the best job in the world. ๐ŸŒŠ

It all started on July 8th when I received a phone call from Vanessa, a Ranger at Range Pond State Park in Poland, Maine … ๐Ÿ“ž

๐Ÿ”‘ A Tourist Stranded & A Rental Car Stuck

The day before, a tourist from Texas had been enjoying the beautiful, serene lake while floating around on an inner-tube style flotation device. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ

Suddenly, disaster struck. His rental car key fob and keys slipped out of his swim trunk pocket and vanished into the water! ๐Ÿ˜ญ

To make matters worse:

The Search Area: Vanessa warned me the area he had been swimming in was massive.

๐Ÿ—บ๏ธThe Stakes: The rental car was still stranded at the park because that was the only set of keys the agency had given him! ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ”’

I told Vanessa I would be there as soon as I could pack my gear and drive the one hour to the park. I immediately called Gary Hill for backup, and his response was instant: โ€œOn my way, Iโ€™ll meet you there!โ€ ๐ŸŽ๏ธ๐Ÿ’จ

๐Ÿ’ The Plot Thickens: A Second Missing Treasure

When I arrived, the booth attendant was expecting me. She told me Gary had just arrived, but then she dropped a bombshell question:
โ€œWere you told that a few weeks ago, someone lost their silver engagement ring in the lake?โ€ ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

I had no idea! She told me the park staff still had the owner’s contact info. If we found it, they could return it.I smiled and thought, โ€œAlright then, let’s go find a key fob and an engagement ring. A two-for-one type of deal!โ€ ๐ŸŽฏโœจ

๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ The Grid: Searching a ยซย Football Fieldย ยป in deep water

When we met up with Vanessa down by the shore, we realized the true scale of the challenge. The search area was larger than a football field! ๐Ÿˆ

Covering an area that size on dry land is tough enough, but doing it in water feels impossible. We knew we would need a miracle to find either item, let alone both. Fortunately, the water was extremely clear with a beautiful sandy bottom, and the lake was nice and warm. โ˜€๏ธ๐ŸŠโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Because a large group of local city summer camp kids was playing near the tourist’s entry point, we had to adjust our boundaries. We used a large tree and a water fountain up on the shore as our east and west markers:

I started out deep near the buoys. ๐Ÿฆบ

Gary started mid-water, working eastward slightly to my right.

We began making our grid passes. No keys or engagement ring on the first pass, but the lake was already giving up secrets!

I found a small sterling silver ring with CZ stones, while Gary dug up coins and typical beach trash like pull tabs and foil.๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ

After a few more passes, I found another ringโ€”this one stainless steelโ€”along with an earring and more coins.

Gary was finding plenty of coins, but no jewelry yet. ๐Ÿช™

๐Ÿ’ฅ The Miracle Double-Strike!

We had been in the water for about 45 minutes and were almost finished with our first section. As I swung my detector, something about 7 to 8 feet ahead caught my eye. ๐Ÿ‘€

Amidst the stark white sand, there was a strange black object resting on the bottom. A tree branch? Bark? Trash? ๐Ÿชต

I kept swinging my coil and advanced toward it. The moment the coil passed over the object, my machine screamed! ๐Ÿ”Š

I leaned over in the stomach-deep water to get a closer look. I squinted through the ripples, and my heart stoppedโ€”IT WAS THE KEY FOB AND KEYS! Are you kidding me?! ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ™Œ

I scooped them up, held them high in the air, and yelled over to Cheryl and Gary. Gary rushed over, grinning from ear to ear as I handed them to him. ๐Ÿ”‘๐ŸŽ‰

We stood there celebrating for a moment. As we were about to turn and leave the spot, I gave my detector one last casual swing over the exact same area.

BEEP! ๐Ÿšจ
Another targetโ€”less than a foot away! I plunged my scoop into the sand, lifted it, and let the white sand sift through the holes, in the scoop. Staring up at me from the bottom of the scoop was a beautiful engagement ring! ๐Ÿ’โœจ

Seriously!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! I hadnโ€™t even taken a single step forward, and I pulled the lost engagement ring from the depths of the lake! I checked inside the band, saw the ยซย 925ย ยป stamp, and knew instantly it was the sterling silver ring lost weeks prior.

Talk about being lucky! The two missing items had ended up less than a foot apart in a massive lake. What are the absolute odds of that? As the saying goes, ยซย Better lucky than good!ย ยป ๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ€

๐Ÿ’Œ Grateful Rangers & Happy Owners

Once out of the water, we met up with Vanessa and another ranger named Walter. I actually met Walter the previous year when I recovered a gold ring at the same park!

Walter is a massive fan of The Ring Finders of Maine Facebook page and keeps my business card right in his wallet. He promised us that whenever anyone reports a lost item to the park staff, we will be the very first phone call. Thank you, Walter! ๐Ÿชช๐Ÿค

Vanessa took the recovered treasures straight to the front office to notify the incredibly relieved owners. Later that day, she sent me this wonderful message:

โ€œThank you so much for coming so promptly. They picked up their keys this afternoon and were very happy and incredibly thankful for your service. It is a great service you provide. So… Thank you and Gary for all you do.โ€ ๐Ÿฅนโค๏ธ

Remember: If it matters to you, it matters to us. ๐Ÿคโš“

Platinum Engagement and Wedding Rings Lost On The Beach, in York Maine, Found With A Metal Detector, at Long Sands Beach

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)

๐ŸŒŠ A Race Against the Tide: The Search for Katie’s Rings ๐Ÿ’
I received the following text

*โ€œHi, my name is Katie. I found your info on Google saying you try and find people’s lost wedding rings? I lost mine today on York Beach, Maine , Long Sands right before high tide.

We tried to go look but couldn’t find it or our exact spot. Was wondering how your services work and if you might be able to help me. My husband and I have been married for almost 9 years… we walked down the horrible steps and then sat on the wet sand before high tide, in between the bad set of stairs and the ones just south of them. There’s a house across the street, its number is **, and it has little buoys that kinda look like popsicles.โ€ ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ

Along with the message, Katie sent a Google map with a pin drop and GPS coordinates. Excellent.

โฑ๏ธ The 5:30 AM Game Plan
After looking at the location and the tide charts, we knew our best chance of recovery would be early in the morning on July 5th. Gary and I arrived at Long Sands Beach in York Beach, Maine at 5:30 AM. ๐ŸŒ…

With low tide at 9:31 AM, we had plenty of time to search for her wedding and engagement rings, which were soldered together. With two of us on the job, we could cover the entire area without worrying about the incoming water.

Katie had lost her platinum wedding set when she took them off to apply lotion to her children. ๐Ÿงด She placed them in the cupholder of her beach chair. As the family enjoyed their beach day, the rings slipped her mind. When they packed up, the rings fell out of the cupholder as the chair was carried away to the truck.

One big concern I had was that they had set up on the hard-packed wet sand. If the rings fell there, they wouldnโ€™t sink right away. They would sit on the surface until the tide came in and buried themโ€”meaning anyone walking by could have easily spotted them and picked them up. ๐Ÿ˜ฐ

๐Ÿ” Cruising the Grid
Gary and I hit the beach as planned. Gary started up in the dry sand, working his way toward the water. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ I started on the hard-packed wet sand, working toward the shore. If we didn’t find them here, our backup plan was to search their walking path to the โ€œHorrible Stairs.โ€

The area was a little larger than I thought. Our grid search was yielding nothing but a few coins and the usual beach trashโ€”pull tabs, foil, and bottle caps. ๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ

As we neared the end of the section, Gary stopped so I could finish it off. He was about to move to the walking path. I didnโ€™t have a good feeling about that path because the Beach Cleaning Rake had gone through the area just before we arrived. If the rings had been there, the machine could have dragged them anywhere.

I was starting to lose hope. We were running out of real estate, and the rings were still missing. ๐Ÿ“‰ I had maybe two or three passes left before I was completely done.
* First pass: Nothing.
* Second pass: Almost finished, and then…

๐Ÿ’ฅ BANG!!! The Sound We Needed!
I received the exact target tone I had been waiting for! ๐Ÿ”Š A loud, low tone, repeatable and just 0โ€“2 inches below the surface. The Target Identification (TID) screen showed a low-conducting metal reading 18-19. Definitely platinum.

I yelled over, โ€œGary, I think I found them!โ€ ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ

The target was so loud I knew it wasn’t deep. Once I used the pinpointer, I didn’t even need to dig. I could actually see the outline of the ring right through the wet sand. I brushed a little sand away with my finger, and there was Katieโ€™s precious wedding set! ๐Ÿ˜ญโœจ

UNBELIEVABLE!!! Just one more pass and we would have walked away. This is exactly why we never break a grid search. You just never know where a lost ring will be.

๐ŸŽ The Big Surprise
I took a video to surprise Katie. I started the video making it look like an unsuccessful search, only to quickly pan over to Gary with a massive smile, holding up the rings!

๐Ÿ‘‰ ยซย Check out the video Reel on our page to see the exact moment we surprised her!!!

Within a couple of minutes, Katie called us. Hearing the pure excitement in her voice was the absolute best. She told me she and her husband Klayton were just down the road and would be right there.

Within ten minutes they arrived. Just watching her walk down the street was incredibly rewardingโ€”you could see the ยซย bounceย ยป in her step, and her smile said it all! ๐Ÿ˜Š

As Katie received her wedding rings back, the relief was unmistakable. The anxious voice from the night before was completely gone, and the rings went straight back onto her finger where they belonged. Life was good once again! ๐Ÿ’–

Gary and I truly have the best job in the world. We love what we do.
Remember: โ€œIf It Matters To You, It Matters To Us.โ€ ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Platinum and Diamond Wedding Ring Lost In The Goose Rocks Beach Sand, Found In Kennebunkport, Maine With A Metal Detector

โœจ ยซย That Was Like Magic!ย ยป โœจ How a Family’s Beach Day Was Saved by a Low Tone & a Helping Hand ๐Ÿ–๏ธโค๏ธ

As Cheryl and I were driving home from a successful ring recovery and return in York, Maine, my phone rang. ๐Ÿ“ž

The caller identified herself as Molly. She had just lost her platinum wedding ring with diamonds! ๐Ÿ’Ž๐Ÿ’

Molly was at Goose Rocks Beach in Kennebunkport, Maine. She had taken her ring off and placed it in her lap while applying lotion to her children and herself. ๐Ÿงด๐Ÿ–๏ธ

She forgot about the ring, stood up, and walked away toward the water. As she was walking, she suddenly remembered it! ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Molly rushed back to her chair and began searching the sand, but the ring was gone. Her children and husband also searched, but came up empty. ๐Ÿ”

Realizing they might be burying the ring deeper into the sand, they wisely stopped searching to prevent making it harder to find. It was then that I was called! ๐Ÿ“ฑ๐Ÿšจ

Cheryl and I were at a red light in Biddeford, Maine, when Molly phoned. ๐Ÿšฆ I was literally at the intersection of Route 1 and the road that heads straight to Goose Rocks Beach! ๐Ÿš˜

I was closer to the beach right then than if I had gone home and had to drive back. So, I took a sharp right at the intersection and told Molly I would be there in less than 15 minutes! โฑ๏ธ๐Ÿ’จ

Cheryl and I arrived in short order and were promptly met by Molly. She brought us down to where her family had set up on this 250th anniversary of our countryโ€™s independence. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐ŸŽ†

When we arrived, Molly showed me where she had been sitting and where the family had been searching for her wedding ring in the sand. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ๐Ÿงฑ

After firing the metal detector up, I did a quick scan of the area… nothing. โŒ

I moved inside the tent a little, and one of the children moved a chair out of the way, but the search still yielded nothing. Molly then showed me the path she had taken toward the water to the right of the canopy. โ›บ

After 5 minutes, there was still no wedding ring. It was now time to start moving some of the beach bags under the canopy. ๐Ÿ‘œ๐ŸŽ’

I asked Molly my usual rounds of questions:
๐Ÿ’ฌ ยซย Was it left back at the house?ย ยป
๐Ÿ’ฌ ยซย Have you checked the beach bags?ย ยป

Once I started back up, I searched the exact spot where a teal-colored beach bag had been sitting… ๐ŸŽ’๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ

BANG!!! ๐Ÿ’ฅ
A nice, loud, low tone rang out, reading 17-18-19 on the Target Identification (TID) screen! This TID was the absolute perfect number for a woman’s platinum wedding ring. ๐Ÿ“ˆ๐Ÿ’

I asked one of Mollyโ€™s children if she would like to use the pinpointer to locate the target. She happily agreed, and after a quick tutorial, she found the spot! ๐ŸŽฏ๐Ÿง’

As she dug in the sand with her hand, the ring wasnโ€™t appearing. She dug deeper, and still nothing! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

I said, ยซย It canโ€™t be that deep,ย ยป and moved in to dig deeper with my hand when Mollyโ€™s husband noted, ยซย We did move some sand around.ย ยป โณ๐Ÿงฑ

As I dug further, I felt it… and started pulling it out of the sand! ๐Ÿ–๏ธ๐Ÿ’Ž

Mollyโ€™s daughter excitedly cried out:
๐Ÿ“ฃ ยซย Mommyโ€™s wedding ring!ย ยป

Her husband exclaimed:
๐Ÿ“ฃ ยซย That was down there deep!ย ยป

And her daughter added:
๐Ÿ“ฃ ยซย That was like magic!ย ยป โœจ๐Ÿง™โ€โ™‚๏ธ

Molly let out a massive, joyful laugh! ๐Ÿ˜‚โค๏ธ

She could finally relax with her beautiful wedding ring back safely on her finger. The stress and tension instantly lifted, replaced by smiles and laughter all around! ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ’ซ

With the sun shining brightly, the family could get back to enjoying their beautiful beach day in Kennebunkport. โ˜€๏ธ๐ŸŒŠ

This is why we do it. We love our jobsโ€”itโ€™s truly the best job in the world! ๐ŸŒโค๏ธ

Cheryl and I were just beaming after recovering our second wedding ring in the span of just two hours! To top it off, Gary had also recovered a wedding ring earlier in the morning. ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿ™Œ

Three wedding rings recovered in one dayโ€”a true ยซย triple crownย ยป or a ยซย three-peatย ยป in the ring-finding business! ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ†

As we walked off the beach, we couldn’t help but think about what a legendary day it had already been.

It was only 2:25 PM, and little did we know… our day wasnโ€™t done just yet! ๐Ÿ˜‰๐ŸŒ…

Gold Wedding Ring Lost In The Beach Sand, Found With A Metal Detector, On Long Sands Beach, York, Maine

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ A JULY 4TH RESCUE! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

On Saturday, July 4th, as our nation was celebrating our 250th anniversary, I received a call from Nick. Nick had arrived at Long Sands Beach in York Beach, Maine. It was still early in the morning as he, his family, and his friends were setting up their beach spot with a large umbrella, chairs, and other gear.

โ˜€๏ธ THE ACCIDENT โ˜€๏ธ
Nick had sat down in his beach chair to apply sun protection. He took his wedding ring off and placed it on his lap. Once finished with the lotion, Nick stood up and, moments later, realized his wedding ring was now somewhere in the sand.

โŒ FRUITLESS SEARCHING โŒ
After getting help from others in his beach group, they realized walking through the area and sifting sand with their fingers was fruitless. They knew they may actually be moving the ring out of the area or even pushing it deeper into the beach sand.

๐Ÿ›‘ QUICK THINKING! ๐Ÿ›‘
Nick wisely had everyone stop looking for the ring and then called me. He also made a very good decision and stopped all traffic through the area by positioning the beach chairs in a circle around the zone where the ring was thought to be. Great job, Nick!!!

๐Ÿš— ON THE WAY ๐Ÿš—
Nick asked if I could come down and search for his wedding ring. Enough saidโ€”Cheryl and I were on our way to York.

๐Ÿ…ฟ๏ธ THE PARKING NIGHTMARE ๐Ÿ…ฟ๏ธ
Because it was a Saturday and a July 4th holiday weekend, traffic and parking were big issues up and down the Southern Maine Coast. The travel time was longer than usual and parking was nonexistent in York. Streets and lots near the beach were completely full.

๐Ÿฅต THE TREK ๐Ÿฅต
After driving further and further from the beach area, Cheryl and I finally found a spot, but it came with a physical price. The parking spot was literally eight-tenths of a mile from where Nick was on the beach!Cheryl and I grabbed the equipment and started walking. It was very hot, and I wasnโ€™t looking forward to the return walk to the vehicle, but I knew I would be in a great mood if I could find Nickโ€™s wedding ring. I called Nick to tell him we were getting close, and he said he would meet us at the lifeguard stand.

๐Ÿ–๏ธ THE ARRIVAL ๐Ÿ–๏ธ
Once Cheryl and I arrived, we saw Nick waving to us. We made our way over to the scene of the lost ring, and I started searching just behind the chair Nick had been sitting in.

๐Ÿ” THE FIRST ATTEMPT ๐Ÿ”
His wedding ring was not behind the chair. I asked if the chairs could be moved backward a little bit, out of the way. As the chairs were being moved, I started searching the side of the umbrella where Nick had been sitting. My first grid pass resulted in no targets.

โœจ FOUND IT! โœจ
As I started my second grid pass, I heard Nick say, โ€œI see it!โ€ Nick then bent over and picked up his wedding ring. It was actually just a little outside the zone where they thought it would be.

๐Ÿง A BEACH MYSTERY ๐Ÿง
Had the ring stuck to Nick for a few steps when he got up? Had it been moved while everyone was searching for it? We will never know! We believe the ring was covered by sand as people started moving chairs and coolers, but then became uncovered again by the activity of clearing the area

.๐ŸŽ‰ BACK TO CELEBRATING ๐ŸŽ‰Either way, Nick was absolutely thrilled to have his ring back, and the tension instantly vanished. It was time for Nick and his group to get back to celebrating the holiday and enjoying life!

๐Ÿฅพ THE HIKE BACK ๐Ÿฅพ
Cheryl and I started our long hike back to our vehicle, already wondering what adventure would be waiting for us next on this hot holiday weekend

.๐Ÿ’ฌ A BEAUTIFUL MESSAGE FROM NICK ๐Ÿ’ฌ
Later that afternoon, I received the following text from Nick:ย ยปThe relief you bring to people must be rewarding to witness. And your willingness to help others, especially on a holiday, is extremely generous. You saved me a lot of guilt and anxiety, and I canโ€™t thank you enough for the service. Take care and be well. – Nickย ยป

โค๏ธ WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO โค๏ธNick, it is extremely rewarding! There is absolutely nothing like seeing someone get their sentimental ring back and watching the smiles spread across their face. We truly have the best job in the world, and we love every minute of it.

Gold Wedding Ring Lost in The Saco River, Found With A Metal Detector In Biddeford, Maine

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)

๐Ÿšจ SACO RIVER SUCCESS: Independence Day Ring Rescue! ๐ŸŽ†

๐Ÿ’On Friday, July 3rd, I received a call from Sam. Her husband, Matt, had been tubing on The Saco River at Rotary Park in Biddeford, Maineโ€”just 3โ€“4 miles from my house.

While tubing, Matt felt his white gold wedding ring slip right off his finger.

He dove in after it, but after an hour of searching, he came up empty-handed.

Sam wanted to know if this was something we could help with. I told her we absolutely do water recoveries!

Iโ€™ve searched Rotary Park before; while it’s not a complicated grid, the riverbed has a brutal, hard clay bottom that makes digging with our scoops incredibly tough.

Sam said Matt would be in touch.๐Ÿ“ž

The Morning Plan & Tag-Teaming the Search

The next morning, Matt called with the exact details:

Depth: 4 to 5 feet of water ๐ŸŒŠ

Location: Inside the buoys at Rotary Park

Current: Very minimal

Bottom: A mix of sand, hard clay, and thick vegetation ๐ŸŒฟ

Perfect! I told Matt I could search up to five feet deep, but I wasn’t available for another hour and a half.

Instead of making him wait, I called fellow Ring Finder Gary Hill, who lives just 20 minutes away.

Gary could start grid-searching immediately until I could get there.

Matt rushed to meet him.

Within 30 minutes, Gary was out the door with his Minelab Excalibur diving metal detector, ready to dive in! ๐Ÿคฟ๐ŸŽ๏ธ

Double Booking: A Second Emergency Call!

Once I got home, I started loading up my own Minelab Excalibur to head to the river.

Just as I was packing up, my phone rang again.

A frantic caller at Long Sands Beach in York Beach, Maine, had just lost a gold wedding ring in the sand 30 minutes prior.

With Gary already handling the river, I made a quick executive decision:

I left the Saco River search entirely in Gary’s capable hands and jumped onto the Maine Turnpike toward York.

I was barely on the highway when my phone buzzed. A text from Gary read:

โ€œRING FOUND 4 1/2 FEET DEEP.โ€ ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿ”ฅ

OUTSTANDING!

I called Gary immediately to congratulate him on an incredible water recovery before continuing down to my beach call.๐Ÿคฟ

Mud, Branches, and Teamwork: How It Happened

Gary later gave me the breakdown of how they pulled it off.

Matt took Gary directly to the drop zone.

Matt even brought his snorkeling goggles to help search visually while Gary executed a tight grid search with his detector.

Gary started at three feet deep and worked his way deeper.

He hit a few random targets, but nothing with that distinct gold tone.

He kept digging anyway.

After about 30 minutes, Gary pushed out into 4.5 feet of water.

BOOM.
A loud, low-tone target blasted through his headphones. Gary knew instantly: this was the wedding ring. ๐ŸŽฏ

But there was a catch. The target was trapped under decayed vegetation and a layer of compacted, rock-hard clay and sand.

Garyโ€™s scoop couldn’t break through.

So, the duo improvised:

Gary held his detector coil directly over the target to lock down the location. ๐Ÿ“

Matt took a deep breath, dove to the bottom, and grabbed a massive handful of the leaves, roots, and debris. ๐ŸŒฟ

They brought the pile to the surface together to sift through it.

As they cleared away the mud and branches… a beautiful white gold ring appeared! ๐Ÿ’Žโœจ

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ The Best Way to Spend July 4th.

Mission accomplished!

Matt let out a massive celebratory yell, smiling ear to ear. They headed back to shore, where Matt couldnโ€™t wait to call Sam with the life-saving news.

What a phenomenal way to spend the 4th of July weekendโ€”in the water, saving the day, and making sure a piece of family history wasn’t lost forever.

Happy 250th Anniversary, America!

This is a holiday Matt and Gary will never forget. ๐Ÿ›๏ธโค๏ธ

Later that afternoon, Matt sent a text:

โ€œThank you so much for setting this up and Iโ€™m so excited we found it. Have a GREAT 4TH.โ€

Talking with Gary later, he perfectly summed up why we do this:

โ€œI really do have the best job in the world, and I love my job.โ€ ๐Ÿฅฐ

Platinum Engagement Ring Lost In The Ocean Water, Found With A Metal Detector In Kennebunkport, Maine

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)

๐Ÿ˜ฑ LOST IN THE OCEAN, FOUND IN 10 SECONDS! โฑ๏ธ๐Ÿ’
How we recovered a priceless platinum engagement ring at Motherโ€™s Beach…

Late Friday afternoon on July 3rd, I received an urgent phone call from Susan.

Earlier that day, her daughter Lucy was in the water at Motherโ€™s Beach in Kennebunk, Maine, throwing a football around with a group of 15โ€“20 family and friends.

As Lucy went to catch the ball, it hit her handโ€”sending her platinum engagement ring flying straight into the ocean. ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ’”

The ring instantly disappeared into the waves and sand. ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ’

A massive search by the group turned up absolutely nothing, and everyone was feeling completely helpless.

Thankfully, a kind woman on the beach saw them searching and told them about The Ring Finders of Maine . ๐Ÿ”

As soon as Susan called, Cheryl and I loaded up our gear in record time and took off, towards Kennebunk, via Kennebunkport Maine ๐ŸŽ๏ธ๐Ÿ’จ

Despite holiday traffic, we arrived in 35 minutes.

Lucy met us and took us right to the spot.

The family knew the exact area, so we quickly set up our grid boundaries.
I started at the southern end of the beach, right where Lucy had been standing when it happened.

Everyone was anxiously watching. Susan walked out to follow right beside me.

I could see the pure worry on her face, and I prayed I could turn that worry into a smile. ๐Ÿฅบ

I took my first few steps. About 8 feet into my grid search , my metal detector hit a massive, loud, low tone! ๐Ÿšจ

The Target Identification (TID) was locking in at 17โ€“19 and was incredibly repeatable.

I looked at Susan and told her it was a very, very good targetโ€”and only zero to two inches deep.

Could I have actually found this lost platinum ring in under 10 seconds of searching?! โฑ๏ธ๐Ÿ‘€

I took off my headphones and let Susan listen to the signal. I told the group I couldn’t guarantee it, but I was highly confident.

I invited everyone to crowd around and watch the dig.

๐Ÿฅ„ Scoop #1: Just sand.

๐Ÿฅ„ Scoop #2: As I lifted the wet sand out of the hole, people started SCREAMING! ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ˜ญ

Right there, sitting perfectly in the sand inside my scoop, was the platinum engagement ring!๐Ÿ’

Cheers, tears, clapping, and massive hugs broke out instantly!

The anxious energy on the beach transformed into a full-on celebration. โœจ

As Susan and Lucy hugged, Susan pointed to the scoop and told Lucy to go get her ring.๐Ÿ’

The moment Lucy picked it up, her dad, Alex, stepped in for a massive ยซย Dad Hug.ย ยป ๐Ÿฅฐ

The happy tears were really flowing now! ๐Ÿฅน
โค๏ธ

Even strangers passing by on the beach couldn’t help but stop and smile. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Cheryl and I were absolutely beaming, knowing we could bring this family such massive relief.

What started as a holiday disaster turned into a moment of pure triumphโ€”a celebration this family will never forget. ๐ŸŒŸ

This is exactly why we do what we do.

There is no better feeling in the world than replacing sheer panic with pure joy.๐Ÿคฉ

As we packed up to leave the family to their celebration, I looked at Cheryl and couldn’t help but think:

We really do have the best job in the world. ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธโค๏ธ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ

Remember: ยซย If it matters to you, it matters to us.ย ยป ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿ’

โœจ A final wish for Lucy: May your upcoming wedding be the beautiful beginning of a lifetime filled with love, laughter, and a bond that shines even brighter than the platinum on your finger! ๐Ÿฅ‚๐Ÿพ

Two Sterling Silver Rings Lost In The Ocean Water, Found With A Metal Detector, At Casino Beach, Cape Elizabeth, Maine

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)

๐Ÿšจ UNBELIEVABLE RESCUE AT CASINO BEACH! ๐Ÿšจ

It all started with a voicemail on June 30th at 12:08 PM…

โ€œOh, hi, I’m looking to reach somebody from The Ring Finders of Maine… I lost a ring about a day and a half ago at Casino Beach in Cape Elizabeth, Maine… Please give me a call back. The name is Meg.โ€ ๐Ÿ“ž

๐Ÿ•’ Lost for 3 Days in the Town of Cape Elizabeth, Maine Ocean waves
When I called Meg back, she told me a heartbreaking story. Two very sentimental Sterling Silver rings were gone. ๐Ÿ’”

She, her husband, and their young daughter had been enjoying a beautiful day at Casino Beach. When it was time to leave, Meg took her rings off, tucked them into her shirt pocket, and went to wash her hands in the surf. ๐ŸŒŠ

As she got back to the beach blanket, she bent over to grab somethingโ€”and saw one ring fall out of her pocket! She snatched it up, but when she checked for the other two, her heart sank. They were gone. ๐Ÿ˜ญ

She and a friend searched the dry sand and the water’s edge for two days straight. Nothing. That is when her friend told her about us! ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธโœจ

๐ŸŒ… The Strategy: Beating the Morning Tide
Gary and I knew we had to act fast. We looked at the charts and determined Meg had been in the shallow water around mid-tide.

๐Ÿ“ˆTo stand a chance, we needed to hunt at the absolute lowest tide. We met Meg at the beach at 6:00 AM on Wednesday, July 1st. โฐ ๐Ÿ’จ

She showed us the setup area and the path she took to the water. We had a massive grid to cover:

* Gary started on the dry sand where the blanket had been. ๐Ÿ๏ธ

* I started at the water’s edge, planning to work my way up toward him.
* The Goal: Meet in the middle, then jump out further as the tide dropped!
โ€œAlright, now let’s go find some rings!โ€ ๐Ÿš€

โšก Metal Detecting Science & A Sudden Storm
Almost immediately, Garyโ€™s machine screamed with a high conductor reading in the 80s! He dug… a quarter. ๐Ÿช™

For those wondering about the science:
* Sterling Silver is highly conductive. It rings up between 70 and 90+ on a Target ID (TID).
* Quarters & Dimes ring up in that exact same silver range.
* Gold & Nickels are lower conductivity, ringing up much lower.

To make things harder, this beach was loaded with iron trashโ€”likely rebar from old storm repairs on the concrete seawalls. ๐Ÿ—๏ธ๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ

After an hour of digging pull tabs, the sky opened up. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ Gary and I had to take shelter under an overhanging deck for 20 minutes until the storm passed. ๐ŸŒฉ๏ธ

๐ŸŽฏ Double Target! The ยซย Eurekaย ยป Moment
As soon as the rain stopped, we got right back to it. The tide had dropped another 20 feet, exposing brand-new ground. ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ’จ

On my third grid pass along the wet sand, my detector went crazy. It wasn’t just one loud beepโ€”it was a double target! ๐Ÿ”Š๐Ÿ”Š

One registered in the 80s, the other in the low 90s.
I yelled across the beach: โ€œGary! I think I found them!โ€ Two silver targets, two missing silver rings. What else could it be?! ๐Ÿคž

๐Ÿ’ The Miracle in the Sand

Gary ran over with his pinpointer. I scooped a massive chunk of wet sand and threw it onto the beach.

Right there in the hole… a glimmer of silver. AWESOME!!! ๐ŸŽ‰

Gary grabbed the first ring!

But the hole was empty when we checked for the second one. My heart skipped a beat. I swung my detector over the pile of loose sand I had just dug up.

Right there on top of the pile, staring back at us, was the second missing silver ring! YES!!! ๐Ÿฅณ ๐Ÿ™Œ

Gary took them down to the surf, washed off the salt and sand, and they shined like brand new. โœจ

โค๏ธ An Unforgettable Family Reunion
I snapped a quick photo of the rings resting on some seaweed and texted it to Meg. No responseโ€”she was rushing to get ready for work! ๐Ÿ“ฒ

When I called her and told her the news, she went dead silent in pure disbelief, then exploded with excitement! ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐ŸŽ‰

Gary and I drove straight to her house 10 minutes later. Meg and her husband, Tom, came running out, smiling from ear to ear.
Meg told us her young daughter had been heartbroken because she loved those rings and hoped to inherit them one day. They were special gifts from birthdays and Christmases past. โœจ๐Ÿ‘ง

Seeing those rings back on Meg’s fingers where they belong is exactly why we do this. ๐Ÿ’โค๏ธ

๐Ÿ’Œ A Final Message from Meg

Later that day, Meg sent us the sweetest text:

โ€œYou guys are amazing! Thank you again! Have been spreading the word! Thank you thank you!!โ€ ๐Ÿฅน

Gary and I love our jobsโ€”we truly have the best job in the world. ๐ŸŒŠ ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ

Remember: If it matters to you, it matters to us. ๐Ÿคโš“
