House and Car Key FOB Lost in the Surf – Found and Returned North Myrtle Beach SC

I got a phone call and referral from my son-in-law on some lost keys. He gave me the location and details and I met Kimberly about 10 minutes later on the beach. Kimberly told me that her brother and cousin had been fishing about 11pm the night before and when her brother got back to the resort he didn’t have his house or BMW key FOB. Figuring out the tides for the previous evening I realized I had a very short window of opportunity to try and find the keys before high tide. There was a big drain pipe on the beach and that was the reference point both as the center point for north and south (both about 40 yards wide) and the starting point seaward. By the time I started my grid line the end of the pipe was already underwater and the waves were building. After about an hour of searching I called Kimberly and left a message that I’d be back in about 3 hours to work the outgoing tide.

Around 5 o’clock I arrived back on the beach and started working the outgoing tide, still a little rough but manageable. After another hour and a half of grid searching and finding some change, bottle caps, pull tabs and some wire I got a good strong shallow signal. Bingo, I had the keys in my scoop. I took a picture and sent it to Kimberly asking her “do these look familiar”. I then called her and asked if she got my text, she looked at her text messages and I could hear her in the background tell her family “he found the keys!!! She came back on the phone, thanked me and said her brother was still in town and she was going to call him and give him my number. Within a minute Kevin was on the line saying I can’t believe you found them, I thought I’d never see them again. We met in the Walmart parking lot 10 minutes later and Kevin had his keys back. Kimberly had told me that Kevin was in the US Army and stationed at Fort Bragg, so when we met I gave him a hand salute and shook his hand. He had had a spare key FOB but his dog had pretty much chewed it up but it could still be used. When I handed him his keys back he hit the lock/unlock buttons on the FOB and surprisingly after being buried in the sand submerged below the surf for roughly 18 hours the key FOB still worked!!!!

Lost Blue and White Diamond Ring .. Point Dume State Beach, Malibu, CA. .. Found

Richard and Ariel had come to Malibu from Modesto, CA. for a graduation ceremony of a family member. After the event many members of the family and other friends went to Point Dume State Beach for a good old fashion beach party.
Playing volleyball on the sand Ariel felt her ring fly off her finger. This ring was very sentimental as she had helped her grandfather pick this ring to give to her grandmother many years ago. After her grandfather past away, her grandmother gifted it to her. She was devastated. Several hours of searching with their hands proved unsuccessful.
This part of the State Beach is a couple hundred feet below the cliff side with several hundred steps to access the beach. Another new beach for me, another adventure. Celphone reception is not very good. They had to hike to the top to call me.. After hearing the story, I told them there was a very good chance to find the ring, but I need somebody to stand by to show me the general area. It looked like I could meet them before it got dark.
The women left and Richard, Ariel’s fiancé stayed with four of the guys to guide me. It took about a half hour to grid the area they thought the ring could be. I was nearing the end of my grid, thinking about setting up a cross grid. Everybody was getting up tight, then a solid sound very close to the water line and 30 ft. from where they thought her ring flew off.
It was another joyous moment and I took time to get photos. A beautiful classy ring that Richard said was a blue Stone with 3 white diamonds on each side. Too nice to be lost forever in the sand because they didn’t know about TheRingFinders.com. Then they had to listen to me tell ring search stories, as we hiked up the trail to our cars. They had to return to 250 miles by car to Modesto, CA. the next day and while traveling Ariel called me to personally thank me.

Lost Platinum & Diamonds Wedding Band at Ko Olina Nai’a Lagoon…FOUND!!!

This ring find starts 7 May while I was looking for a lost ring in Ulua Lagoon. I was approached by a gentlemen named Terry who said his recently married Niece’s husband Reymhar from San Jose, California lost his ring in the next lagoon over while paddle boarding a few days before. I told Terry if he could show me the supposed area I would give it a hunt. Terry knew it was in the Northern third of the lagoon but not exactly where. After a brief ankle to neck deep search without a ring find I asked Terry to put me in contact with Reymhar so I could get some more details to the lost ring and it’s probable location. After contacting Reymhar he wasn’t sure exactly when the ring came off only in the Google map picture he sent me he drew a wedge of where he was paddle boarding. I went the next weekend and did a scuba dive for the ring. The deep area was very silty and it was hard to keep track of where I’d detected so it was sort of a willy nilly hunt. The next weekend I tried again and this time I was careful not to stir up too much silt. Yeah right! There were sand clouds everywhere I dug. I found a nice Palladium band with a neat inscription that hopefully remains true today. When I was about down to 600 psi I figured I’d have about three more lines to grid from 4 feet to the deep end of 15 feet. I started an out bound leg and near a plate size rock in 7 feet of water I got a nice solid tone. With one scoop of my hand Reymhar’s ring exposed itself with a triple sparkle of diamonds in the sunlight. That was a wonderful sight to see. I looked heavenward and thanked Jesus. That was one of my hardest searches too date. As soon as I got to my truck I texted Reymhar that I found his ring. Uncle Terry is going to be back in Honolulu 11 June and I will be turning the ring over to him so he can hand deliver it back to Reymhar in San Jose. Aloha to Reymhar and his wife Karen!

Lost Diamond Tennis Bracelet .. Dana Point, CA. .. Found

The day after Mother’s Day I was at a local beach going some recreational metal detecting when I received a call from Teri. Her daughter told her that she had lost the wedding tennis bracelet yesterday while at the family Mother’s Day picnic at Dana Point, CA. Her daughter had not wanted to ruin her Mother’s Day so, after searching all night she called her mother, Teri.
Teri was able to check her car, then went to the park to search the grass. She called me after finding my contact information on line. We discussed how I could search the lawn area to eliminate the possibility of the bracelet being there. Timing is important as the lawn mower or a person may find it before they can.
I met Teri and began a grid search of the grass area which was approximately 100 x 100ft. I told her that if it didn’t show up they could concentrate searching the other places her daughter had been before noticing the bracelet was missing. Towards the end of my search I could see how nervous she was getting. Then I saw her walk off towards the car. Five minutes later, I heard her yelling, I found it. It was in her car that she had search more than three times. Fourth time is a charm. A very happy mother and daughter.
It was a beautiful piece of jewelry with a diamond on each link. It was a gift from Teri to her daughter on her wedding day. Finding sentimental items with a detector is nice, but giving people the confidence to keep looking is part of the process also. I’ve got many stories of people finding their jewelry in odd places after I eliminated the hiding places like sand, grass or water.imageimage

Man’s Tungsten Wedding Band Lost in the Surf – Found and Returned North Myrtle Beach SC

I was out on the beach today getting a little exercise and metal detecting the low tide line when a 9 year old young lady, Gracie came up to me asking if I had found a man’s wedding ring and that her dad, Matt had lost his. Gracie’s mother Lauren was right behind her and told her daughter that the ring was gone. I looked at Lauren and told her not necessarily and started asking questions – where he was when it came off and what time it was when he lost it. Lauren wasn’t with her husband when he lost it but Gracie was and had all the answers and she was right on the money. Gracie told me he lost it about 4pm yesterday and then showed me the area. I got the ring description from Lauren plus her phone number and told her I’d call her when I found it as they were just leaving the beach.

I started a north/south grid search near the low tide line just to eliminate that area before the tide started coming in. I then came back up the beach about 15 yards and on the first pass I had a great signal, almost exactly where Gracie told me her dad had lost it. Two scoops and I saw the ring laying in the sand. I texted Lauren with a picture of the ring and said “Bingo!!! Look familiar??”  Within 1 minute Lauren and Gracie were running out on the beach from the condo, with big grins on their faces. I got a big thank you from both of them and a big hug from Lauren. Come to find out Lauren hadn’t said anything to Matt about having someone look for his ring. Matt was still upstairs in the condo so she was going to go back up and bring him down. Shortly afterwards Matt and Lauren were walking hand in hand out on the beach. I walked up to Matt and asked him if he lost anything and what it looked like, he had both answers right so I held my closed fist out and dropped his ring in his hand – he was so happy and amazed he had it back. He gave me a big hand shake and Lauren got a big kiss from him and everything was good!!!!

Gracie was the real hero here, she’s one extremely intelligent young lady and without her details I’m pretty sure I’d of spent a lot more time looking for Matt’s ring or maybe not even knowing there was a lost ring out there to find.

Lost Iphone in Sand .. Three Arch Bay, Laguna Beach, CA. .. Found

imageGlen called me late in the evening Mother’s Day. His wife, Hey had lost her celphone in the sand the night before. Because she had « the find my phone » application on her phone, GPS signal indicated it was in the sand near the fire pit. After spending most the day searching in the sand by hand and rakes it was getting dark. The battery on the phone had died and they were about to give up.
Glen found TheRingFinders.com while doing a Google search for metal detectors. After calling me I was able to meet them at Three Arch Bay which is a gated community with a private beach. My first time visiting this beach. It’s a beautiful beach even at night with a long set of steps down the cliff to the beach.
After meeting Hey, I could see she was tired and frustrated. They had built a fire in the firepit. So it was kind of a picturesque place to do a search. It took awhile, maybe 15 minutes to find the phone because it was 20 feet away from the location they gave me. I was careful not to dig aggressively as it would not be professional to break the Celphone.
It was great to see how happy Hey was and to know that her Mother’s Day ended in a positive way. I asked them to tell their neighbors and friends about our service.

14K White Gold Engagement Ring Lost in the Surf – Found and Returned Myrtle Beach S

I received an e-mail from Mandy F. asking if I might be able to help her find her engagement ring that she lost in the surf on Saturday during her Bachelorette party. In her e-mail she stated they stayed in North Myrtle Beach but the resort she mentioned was located in Myrtle Beach. I e-mailed her back asking her to call me so I could get additional details and confirm whether the resort she had been staying at was in Myrtle Beach or North Myrtle Beach.  While I was waiting for her call, Matt Fry TRF Myrtle Beach called and asked if I had seen the listing on Craigslist about a lost engagement ring in North Myrtle Beach. After some discussion we concluded that my e-mail and the Craigslist ad was one in the same lost ring. Shortly after we hung up, Mandy called and gave me all the details which included the address for the resort which ended up being in Myrtle Beach (Matt’s area).

I called Matt back and we arranged to meet and do a combined search. We worked about 2 hours doing both north/south and east/west grids and leap frogging each other working our way north along the beach. In Mandy’s description of her location she said she was staying in one of the resorts but when her mother, friends and her went out to the beach they moved farther south because of the large crowds behind her resort. Unfortunately there were 3 or 4 resorts in a row that were associated with each other and had the same name in some variation. As a process of elimination we wanted to make sure we covered as much as we could before the tide came in and hampered our search areas plus it started pouring down rain. As Matt was moving ahead of me he was working the surf line with the incoming tide and I saw him walking up the beach with a scoop of sand, look at me and nod his head, I knew instantly that he had the ring. He had the ring cleaned off by the time I got to him. Matt and I stopped for a late lunch and called Mandy. She was ecstatic and couldn’t believe we had found it. She said she thought it was lost forever. I took a picture of her ring and sent it to her and got the following text back « Omg!!!! That’s my baby, God bless you so much!!!! You guys are truly Angels ». How can it possibly get any better than that, getting someone’s treasure back to them. Wow!!!

I’m putting the ring in the mail tomorrow so she can get it in time for her wedding in less than 2 weeks.

Lost Men’s Wedding Ring Found in the Ocean at Beach 69, Puako, Big Island, Hawaii

Meredith called me and was not happy. Her husband had lost his wedding ring while in the water at Beach 69 just up the road from the famed Hapuna Beach.

They’d waited three days before calling – having spent their time snorkeling to look for it. Should they call me to look for it professionally, or just assume it was lost to the water and waves of Hawaii’s Big Island? They didn’t know what to do. « Was there a chance I’d find it before returning home to Vancouver tomorrow? » she asked.

I’ve found lost rings up to a month after being lost and asked her about the ocean conditions. Beach 69, like Hapuna, can have a vicious west swell so I’m cautious with my predictions due to waves and current.  Conditions were calm and the water clear she assured me. I got to the beach and conditions were excellent – the water was clear and there was barely a ripple.

Meredith’s husband met me on the beach and showed me how he’d been throwing a football (he’s left handed) in the water and getting tackled by his brother-in-law. It could be anywhere along a semi-rocky area 100 feet long just off the sandy beach. I started my search at the deepest point in the water that I could reach to beat the rising tide, hoping all along that the ring hadn’t gone flying off his hand into yet deeper water.

I combed the sand-and-stone bottom carefully and as I got shallower, with more breathing room, could get creative. I asked where the guys had gone charging into the water, where the tackles happened and where they’d snorkeled. In the end, I decided to start my search in the general area where he’d first gotten into the water. Back and forth I went, hearing nothing through the headphones – and then a big signal.

I dropped to the stony bottom underwater on my knees and fanned the sand with my hand to expose the target below. Nothing. I did it again, going deeper through small stones and sand. Suddenly a massive gold ring with a central platinum band emerged out of the hole. In only three days in the water, the ring had been buried – deeper and deeper – by its shear weight and the gentle motion of the waves.

I held the ring in my hand underwater and admired it, thanked God for letting it still be there, then surfaced. Meredith rushed out and her sister-in-law started clapping as did others on the beach who’d been watching the search.

« I didn’t think you’d find it!, » she said before taking it and swimming back to shore with it tightly in her hand. Her husband swam over from deeper water and congratulated me. He told me they’d thought it would be on the ocean floor forever – that they had called me as a last desperate move, a final Hail-Mary as it were before heading back to Canada.

To find lost rings, we can never know what the final outcome will be – though, my wife Sylvie often says, « Never go, never know. »

Lost Diamond Pendant .. Newport Beach, CA. .. Found in Sand

It was raining this morning when I received a call from Cindy. She had been on the beach in front of her house with her dog for a couple hours. When she returned to her house her daughter notice that Cindy’s diamond pendant was missing. This diamond was given to her by her late husband and passed down in the family for over 80 years, very sentimental.
Thinking back over what might have happened, Cindy remembered that her drag had jumped up on her while playing with him. This may have been where the chain was broken and the pendant might be there. Otherwise it could have been anywhere on the beach as they had walked quite a distance.
I told her I was very close and would be there as soon as the rain let up. When I arrived, I could see that she had a beginners type metal detector and an assortment of sifting tools. She had tried searching but it didn’t show up. Her daughter had heard about TheRingFinders.com and suggested her mom call me.
I was not sure if there was enough gold in the piece of jewelry to get a decent signal, but after 20 minutes I got a faint sound that turned out to be Cindy’s diamond pendant. After returning it, Cindy told me that if it wasn’t found, she could not bear the thought of walking on the beach knowing that her family keepsake was out there somewhere. Well, she won’t have to worry about that now that it’s back where it belongs.. I love doing this and it was a pleasure to help Cindy.imageimage

Man’s 14K White Gold Wedding Band Lost in Surfside SC – Found and Returned

I got a text message about 8:30 this evening from Laura M. asking if I could help find her husband’s wedding band that he lost in the surf. I called her right back and got the location and description and was on my way.

I got there an hour later and met both Laura and her husband Chris and they showed me the part of the beach where the ring had come off Chris’ finger.  They went on to tell me this was the first day of their big family vacation and were here from Anchorage, AK. Chris had lost the ring roughly 1.5 hours after high tide and by the time I got there it was low tide so I was in luck of finding it without getting wet. I started my grid search about the mid tide line and worked towards the surf for about 30 minutes with no luck. I then started working the grid from the mid tide line towards the dry sand. About 15 minutes later and 3 grid lines I had a great shallow signal. One scoop and I had his ring in my hand. I cleaned the ring off, put it back in my scoop and walked back over to Chris and his wife and asked him to describe his ring. As he’s describing it I turned my headlamp on, pointed it in the scoop and asked « does it look like this ». Bam, I think all 3 of us dropped a tear or two.

There’s just no words to explain the feeling of returning someone’s treasure that they thought was gone forever.

Chris and Laura, you’re a beautiful and awesome couple and thank you so much for trusting in me to find your lost treasure and for the very generous reward. Have a great vacation and a very safe trip home.
