FIND No. 250!!!

….One more splash in the cool water was all Patrick wanted. Once on shore standing in the sand, he noticed his ring missing. He wondered where it went and looked in his towel hoping it was in there. Nope. He was leaving town the next day and was in panic mode. I saw the water and rushed right in hoping to cool off for a while longer unlike my last recovery. Starting out neck deep I slowly worked my way towards shore savoring the cool clear water enveloping me. Then Patrick’s wife pointed to a spot she remembered him standing. I slowly drifted over to scan the metal detector coil around and sure enough the detector signaled to me good metal. Descending under the water about 4 feet with my pin pointer Patrick’s ring revealed itself under 3 inches of sand, quite unusual for just being dropped. So, all back on shore and happy Patrick can leave town with his ring and I got to cool off longer!

One last dip in the cool water was all that Ashley and the family wanted. As sunset approached, back on shore and dry they headed for the vehicle, but her husband noticed his ring missing. Where was it he thought? On the sand or in the water? With no way to search I met them the next day. I wanted to cool off so I decided to start metal detecting in the water. Ashley pointed to an area she remembers husband standing in the water. With dusk approaching I wanted to stay in the water and cool off longer, but that spot was where his ring was! Everyone was now happy…… maybe next time I can stay in longer!

Wedding day celebration – Huge Diamond in da Scoop

Huge diamond ring found Tampa Sarasota bird Kay island

IMG_5272 Wow…wedding celebrations underway the brides entourage took a ferry for a brunch bay cruise.  While en route the boat took a detour to stop at Bird Island Kay for a short shelling shallow water excursion.   Just before getting back on the boat at NOON someone threw a ball, the bride swatted and off flew the HUGE diamond engagement ring.  Dozens of people searching, ensuing calls and no luck.  “It’s only lost until you call”…the call came in, I was en route within minutes despite the drop zone being 200 miles away and requiring boat to/from the site.  The rest is history, as promised the ring was back on her finger by 9pm the very same day.  Experience, equipment, information, persistence and tenacity make all the difference.   Thanks be to God for He’s the best call one can make!

Cooling off was the plan for Cliff and his daughter Tara. Setting up their chairs, they ended up being neck deep in the water once they settled in. The cool water and gentle swells felt like a million bucks. A few short breaks on shore to visit with family had them back in the water quickly. Towards evening Tara noticed her ring missing. Recalling that she was on shore playing with the dogs and even jet skiing had her heating up with worry as to what happened to the ring. When I arrived, there were brief rain showers. I started to grid search just past where they were sitting and got tons of junk signals. Scanning thru a few tall wispy plants poking up, nails, screws and jagged metal was being detected and removed. As heavier rain and lightning rolled in, I went on shore to check the ground where Tara was. Still no ring signal. A break in the clouds had me back in the water working my way closer to shore. Again, more junk was dug up. As I usually recheck the ground after removing junk, I rechecked this spot and got a clear good metal tone thru the headphones. Scraping thru the sand with my small pin pointer revealed her ring quite deep I’ll say. Holding the ring up for Cliff to see he just about fell out of his lawn chair to get into the water. He quickly called Tara who was overtaken with relief that her ring was found. Let the cool down begin.

In The Shadows of The Seaweed is a first in a new series of posts for recoveries made in/underwater dedicated to my turtle Frankie whom I and my friends had the pleasure of watching her dive for food and chase targets in her tank for 8 months. Very inspiring creature whose personality will always drive me harder to find those elusive underwater lost items.

We will miss her. RIP Frankie!

Lost – Men’s tungsten wedding band, Samsula, FL – FOUND!!

I noticed a post from someone who had lost his wedding ring in his own front yard. Since it was only a few miles away, I told him I could stop by and asked him to give me a call. Between his schedule and mine, it took a while, but we finally found a time to search.

When I arrived, Duke led me to the exact spot where it happened. Standing there, he said, « I washed my hands right here, » then demonstrated how he had flicked the water from them. « That’s when my ring flew off. » He heard it strike one of the pavers on the walkway, but after that, it simply vanished.

I figured it would be a quick recovery. I fired up the Minelab Manticore and got to work. But the thick, not mown grass quickly changed my expectations. Every promising signal had to be checked carefully, with Duke using a small tool to investigate each target. I searched one side of the walkway, then the other. Nothing but junk. Next came the pavers t hemselves—still nothing.

Refusing to give up, I widened the search. More junk. Then I worked my way close to the house and got a strong signal near the edge of the flower bed. Assuming it was probably a metal landscape stake, I moved on.

Just then I heard Duke shout, « It’s my ring! »

He had looked down and spotted it, hidden in the grass exactly where the detector had alerted me. Tears filled his eyes as the symbol of his marriage to Kathy was safely back on his finger. Hugs, smiles, and grateful hearts followed as God once again blessed a search with a successful ending.

Lost – Wedding & Engagement Ring Set at Crescent Beach, FL, FOUND by local metal detectorist, The Prospecting Mulé

15 June, 2026 I woke up to a Facebook message about a pair of lost rings (wedding and engagement ring set) on Crescent Beach. Reading the information and knowing the area well I knew exactly which part of Crescent Beach to search. I left a note for my wife and out the door I went in hopes of recovering the rings before the tide came in.

The couple, Katelyn and Joseph, were relaxing on Crescent Beach the day before when a fast approaching storm hit. They both rushed to get themselves and their gear back to their vehicle. In their rush they had forgot Katelyn’s rings being tucked safely away in the pocked of the tent. Quickly they went back looking for them. The wind was blowing the sand around making a surface find improbable. Keeping their composure they took photos and videos of the area the rings were lost and noted the time. This information is vital for a quick recovery. Photos (GPS location) assist in narrowing down the search area and the time helps us determine the tide cycles since they were lost.

Going by the information they provided, I started my search pattern just before 5:00am. Not having the couple there to pin point the area made for a larger search area. I slowly gridded the area north and south. Starting at a western point and working my way towards the surf. After 45 minutes of searching I finally came across a good and shallow signal. I was extremely grateful both rings were in my scoop when I pulled it up. 

I immediately took a photo and sent it to Joseph to let him know Katelyn’s rings were safely in my hands and gave him my phone number. Packed up my gear and headed home with this wonderful feeling of accomplishment. About an hour later I received a call from him. The gratitude in his voice and words were heartwarming.

We arranged a time to meet that day so I could return the rings. Several hours later, I received a call Joseph was able to get out of work early and was heading my way. Seeing the smiles on Katelyn’s face as she exited the vehicle was priceless. I presented her the rings and received a heartfelt hug and words of blessed thanks. Moments like these are the reason we are members of The Ring Finders.

Alec and Rachel, enjoying the perfect day at the private beach. In the water, sun shining, tossing a football. Uh oh, Alec discovered his gold wedding ring was missing from his finger.
Not knowing when or exactly where it came off, meant a fairly large search area. Highest chance it was during a throw, which can hurl a ring quite a ways or into deeper water.
Search conditions: Air 78, water 72, 2 ft gently rolling waves, crystal clear water.
Detector: Minelab Manticore
Scoop: XtremeScoops surfmaster titanium

Gridded the probable area, several junk metallic hits. At around 35 minutes in, I called a perfect 51 vdi signal the ring (in my thoughts), scooped out a bright, shiny one-month-old gold wedding ring! Was about 10 inches down in the semi-lofty sandbar sand. Their one month anniversary today. Happy day!

Lost Gold and Diamond Engagement Ring Recovered in Deale, Maryland!

I received a call from Mike this past weekend looking for my assistance in recovering his daughter’s lost engagement ring. Our initial plans to come out the next day was hampered by poor weather conditions so we moved it to the next day. This one was a bit challenging as the ring could be on land or in water about 4ft in depth. With that said, I brought both my land and water metal detectors with me. From here on out, I’ll let Julie, Mike’s wife, tell of her experience.
My daughter was going to go tubing with her husband and neighbors, so she put her engagement ring and wedding band inside her neighbor’s shoe on the pier to be safe and told her they were there. When they all returned to the pier, the neighbor’s little brother picked up his sister’s shoes to carry them back home, unaware that my daughter’s rings were in one of the shoes. He carried them on the pier, up a grassy bank and up to the house. When my daughter looked in the shoes, her wedding band was still in the shoe, but her engagement ring was gone. Her husband is from Africa and when she went to visit him and meet his family he proposed to her in Namibia. Her engagement ring from Africa was priceless to her. I immediately started Googling metal detectors and came across Jim’s website. My husband called him the next morning and he came out a day later due to the weather. My husband and young neighbor showed Jim the path that was taken with the shoes. Jim started searching on land and then moved to the water and then searched on land again a little farther out than he did at first. He found it! We are all forever grateful for Jim. He made a lot of people very happy that day!

I was contacted by Sean who thought he lost his gold wedding band while cutting his grass. We talked and I agreed to come out at his convivence to conduct a search.

Although it took a little while for our schedules to matchup I went out and met Sean who took me around his property where he wanted me to search. It was a large yard and there was a few spots he thought were more likely than others including one on the property line where the neighbor had just removed some trees. Even though some time had passed the grass in the yard was thick and dense and gave me hope that despite a few cuts the ring might still be hidden there. I got started and soon finished with a small portion of the front yard and the backyard. I was starting to wonder if I was going to be able to find it as I was starting to run out of real estate. Then in the area of the side yard where the trees had been removed I got a strong repeatable sound. I started poking around with my pin pointer and there is was! Sean came out of the house to meet me, very pleasantly surprised that I had found it. It was great to meet another kind and generous client and be able to reunite him with his lost wedding ring.

Elyse reached out to me about a class ring she lost in front of her house. She was doing something while getting into a car and it flew off her finger. We made arrangements and I went out the next morning to see if I could help find the ring.

I arrived and Elyse showed me where the car was parked and what she thought had happened. She described hearing the ring bounce on the pavement a few times. They were convinced that it must have bounced off the sidewalk and into the yard. She had been tried to locate it prior to my arrival with no luck. I searched the yard and curb strips several times with both a large and small coil and could not locate the ring. I was telling Elyse that I was all but positive that the ring was not in the yard and probably somewhere on the street. It was at that point Elyse went over to the car closest to us and looked underneath. Suddenly she emerged with her ring! Elyse was very excited to have her ring back and ruling out the yard for certain played a crucial part in the recovery. It was great to meet another kind and generous client and have her reunited with her lost ring!
