Lost Ring? Things To Think Of To Get Your Ring Back (Kingston Ontario)

If You Lost Your Ring? What can you do?

  1. Retrace your steps.
  2. lost your ring at home? Tidy up each room you were in before you noticed it was missing.
  3. Check unusual places. (Like the shower, Or sink drains all over the house) check coat pockets, gloves, hand bags, sweaters and laundry machines, inbetween couch cushions, ect…
  4. For a diamond ring or jewelry item, try turning off the lights and Use a flashlight. Diamond’s will reflect like a mirror when light hits it.
  5. Take a break from looking, re-group, and think about something else (if at all possible) often the place you put your item will come to you when you take your mind off of worrying about it for a while, maybe Ask a friend to lend a fresh pair of eyes to your search.

Regardless wether you lost your ring at home, or in public, there are some steps to take in order to try and recover your lost item.

  1. Don’t wait to act & remember, the longer you wait the more lost your item becomes.
  2. Retrace your steps. It is important to try and remember as much detail as you can about the time you think you lost your item. (The success rate to find lost items are much higher within the first 24 to 48 hours in our experience, although finding lost items can be found even after several years has passed, however take note that the success rate is much lower in these cases.)
  3. You may wish to contact your local police station, jewellers and pawn shops. Someone may have already turned it in.
  4. If you know about The Ring Finders? Do not hesitate to call us. We love to help & this is what we do.
  5. Lastly if you have exhausted all of the above and still no luck? Replacing a lost ring is a lot easier when you don’t need to pay for it out-of-pocket if all else fails? & If your item is insured, then you can file a claim. I know this doesn’t help to replace the sentimentality of a specific item such as an engagement, or wedding ring, but at the very least the piece itself may be able to get replaced.

Cost:

Our detecting service usually work on a reward type basis. Yes we do have a small, non negotiable $40 call out fee. On top of that call out fee, we will work on either a percentage, hourly, or even a reward basis if your item is found and returned.

So what happens if an item cannot be recovered.?

In this scenario, all you would pay for, would be the call out fee of $40, again this is based on our service.

What does the $40 get you.

1st & foremost, the call out fee gets a professional metal detecting specialist to the location where you believe you lost your item.

2nd – we will be brining equipment with us to help assist with the recovery. In many cases we will have somewhere in the range of $1K to $3K in equipment and can be significantly more for water recoveries.

3rd – and even more importantly than brining all the actual gear needed to help find your lost item, we will be bringing years of experience to know how to use the equipment to help recover an item that you are unable to find yourself.

Also remember that we may very well have some distance to travel in order to get to you even before any searching begins. We cover a large area with Kingston being our central location.

I know for Ryan Pugh & I, we will often travel in excess of an hour or more in 1 direction just to get to a clients location. With many successful recoveries. Both Ryan and I will often attend a search together. We do not double the “call out fee” to have both of us on site, even though the customer is getting double the value of the service. So the $40 is to cover expenses and our time that we incur just to get to you so we can help recover an item that we did not loose to begin with. Hence the non negotiable “call out fee”.

 

If the item is recovered and returned, then a reward should be discussed prior to either of us even leaving our home so that there are no surprises to either party involved once the item is found. We will do our best to work within your budget. We will be asking you several questions to get as much information as possible including what the lost item is worth to you if we should be successful & happen to find it for you?

Lost Platinum Ring in the Snow Found in Grand Blanc Michigan

Platinum Deposit…..

…..When Adam called me asking if I wanted to go prospecting for platinum, I said sure but was not aware of any platinum deposits in Michigan. Further clarification determined that he lost his ring in the snow somewhere while cleaning the ice and snow off his car. Upon arrival I noticed chunks of brown colored ice that was in piles from being plowed/shoveled. Using my MXT metal detector I started a grid search where the vehicle was parked. I kept getting bad junk metal signals from somewhere in the asphalt, so I just ignored them as I knew the platinum would sound better. Slowly circling a particular area, I got a nice solid signal near some ice chunks. Reaching down thru some revealed his platinum deposit stuck in one. When I said I hit the motherlode Adam couldn’t believe that the ring was in that area. Thrilled that his ring was found I said that if he ever does come across another platinum deposit, I know a guy who can help recover it!

Lost Gold Ring Found in the Snow in Ferndale Michigan

PUSH IT…..

…He pushed it real good and after the car was rockin’ a bit, it finally was unstuck from the snowbank. After Peter climbed back in and shook off the snow he and the wife continued with their errands. Upon arriving home with a sore shoulder, he settled in for the evening and enjoyed a warm meal. Shortly into that meal he noticed his wedding ring missing. Learning that they went to their storage unit during the snowstorm in Detroit area, I told him to chill out, if you catch my drift and I’d be out shortly. After checking their storage unit and where he carried in the groceries with no luck, the only spot left was where the car got stuck. Noticing that a plow had beat me to the location I used my MXT metal detector to search a few hundred feet along the gutter then I searched the curb strip area between the sidewalk and curb.  A few feet in I got a great signal and a meter reading that made sense with his ring type and size. Pinpointing down a few inches and brushing the show and ice chunks aside revealed his thick gold wedding band! I pointed down to the ring and he said, what!? I said this is snow joke man it’s your ring! After picking it from the snow we both agreed that it was a thaw-some recovery as he started to sing fr-eeze a jolly good fellow!

Lost Gold, Sapphire & Diamonds Engagement Ring at Makua Beach…FOUND!!!

This ring find began when I got a text Monday from Nicole who was on Oahu for a vacation with her brother Kevin.  Nicole is from Connersville, Indiana.  Nicole said she found myself online and wanted to know if I had any availabilities this week?  She lost her Gold, Sapphire & Diamonds Wedding and Engagement Rings on Makua Beach in the dry sand.  She spotted her Wedding Band but the Engagement Ring eluded her.  They rented some Metal Detectors locally but that brand doesn’t work in a salt water environment.  Giving up after a fruitless noisy search is when they found me.  The weather has been extremely rainy and we were hoping for a break to hunt properly.  That break happened this morning and Nicole and her brother Kevin were able to meet at Makua Beach to show me the area to hunt.  Nicole guarded our vehicles « high crime area » and Kevin led me down to the beach.  Kevin drew a box in the sand where they believed the ring would be and I fired up the Manticore to begin my search.  OMG immediately the Beast was overloading on the massive amount of metal trash in the sand.  This had been a homeless encampment and the trash was heavy.  I tuned down the Manticore and decided only to hunt low tone shallow targets.  Still plenty of interference but I worked thru it the best I could.  I was praying I didn’t ignore the ring target when suddenly I got a loud #17 shallow target and as I retrieved the scoop I got a glimpse of a pretty blue stone.  I shook the scoop gently and Nicole’s beautiful ring came into view.  I shouted over to Kevin, « Got it! »  he was shocked first that I even found the ring and then under ten minutes.  We snuck up on Nicole seated in the car and showed her the results.  Obviously she was overwhelmed with joy and was very thankful for the recovery.  Not that a young lady ever ends up in the dog house….Nicole told me she could now tell hubby but with a sense of peace.  Enjoy the rest of your vacation and a very warm Aloha to Nicole and Kevin!

Ringing In The New Year 2024, By Dave Milsted

I am not using the real names of this couple. I will call them Betty & Barney Rubble. Barney called me to see if I could help find some lost jewelry. He was referred to me by Fellow Ring Finder/Treasure Hunter Ed Cropski (he was out of town for the weekend). I work with a core group of excellent detectorists with much experience. If one of us gets a call and can’t make it, we give it to someone in our group.
Barney said his wife got very angry and walked out the back door to their deck, and Bam-Bam threw 2 silver bracelets, a gold wedding ring, and a gold engagement ring. Doing his own reconnaissance, he found 1 of the bracelets. I was near the neighbor’s fence beside a pile of wood rubble, reminding me of a gravel pit. The other 3 items are still missing.
Betty was out on their deck in the area where she was when she threw her jewelry. She looked very sad. After reviewing the angle of where Barney found the first bracelet and the scene, I told Barney that gold rings would travel farther than the lighter bracelet. I asked if his neighbors were okay with me searching their backyard. He said yes that he contacted them after our phone call. Betty went inside.
I started searching the neighbor’s yard. There were a lot of signals. There is a newer deck, and I was finding a ton of wood screws that are used in deck building. After about 12 minutes of searching, I started to look under the deck. I almost immediately found the engagement ring. It was under the deck. From where Betty threw the jewelry and the angle of where the ring was, it had to go through the open-backed stairs from the ground to the deck; if I threw it, it would have bounced off one of the steps. Lucky throw.
I intensified my search under the deck. It took another minute or two to find the missing bracelet. At this point, Barney had no idea I found either item. I asked him if he could hold my pinponter. He came over, and I held out my hand and dropped the engagement ring & bracelet into his hand. The look in his eyes was priceless.
I asked Barney if he would search on the deck for the other ring while I searched on the ground. I didn’t feel right searching up there with all of the windows. The neighbors know Barney, not me.
About 5 minutes went by, and Barney was standing next to me. He held out his hand that held the missing ring. My hunch paid off; it was laying on some covered furniture on the deck. He enjoyed the thrill of making the discovery.
Betty came out on their deck as I talked to Barney in the driveway. I told her to come down & get her jewelry. She was grinning from ear to ear. Barney and Betty are happy once again in Bedrock.

Lost cross on the beach, Atlantic City NJ, recovered by Edward Trapper, NJ Ring Finder

I received a call from Tomas about a cross he lost. He explained it was a huge sentimental item, and it was irreplaceable. We agreed I would head there early the next morning. He gave me all the information, including the marked location on the phone GPS. With  that I figured it would be a simple recovery. Upon arrival i marked the location, and got to work. After no luck, I examined pics he sent with fixed objects on shore. I remarked the spot 35′ away, and after about 10 min. the cross was in my scoop.

Lost White Gold Wedding Band at Outrigger Canoe Club Beach…FOUND!!!

This ring find began when I got a text from Kai who lives in Aina Haina on Oahu.  His text said Happy New Year and if I could help him find his ring in the dry sand at Outrigger Canoe Club Beach.  He had it in his hat but at some point it went missing on the beach.  I told Kai I could grab my gear and head down.  He said he was a guest at the club and that he could get me parking there.  I rushed down and Kai met me in the parking garage.  We headed down to the beach where I met Kai’s lovely wife Larissa and a few friends.  Kai drew a grid in the sand for me to hunt and I began.  This area hadn’t been hunted for awhile so I had to clean up some tin, two pennies and a quarter.  Then I got a nice solid slightly high tone and after two scoops there was Kai’s White Gold Wedding Band in the scoop.  I said this isn’t it is it?  Oh yeah that’s it and an applause went up on the beach.  Great way to start the New Year.  Aloha to Kai & Larissa!

Lost White Gold Wedding Band at Honu Lagoon Ko Olina Resort…FOUND!!!

This ring find began when I got a call from Aloha Security.  They had the contact number for Angelo who was on vacation from Half Moon Bay, California and just lost his White Gold Wedding Band at Honu Lagoon.  I called Angelo and he told me he was playing volleyball with his daughter Jaymie and he believed his ring had come off while diving for the ball.  He assured me it was either in the wet sand or no deeper then ankle height water.  I told Angelo I’d pack my gear and head right down.  Take a little longer then 1/2 hour.  When I arrived Angelo his wife Lauren and Jaymie were waiting.  Angelo drew a box in the sand for me so I started dry and worked towards the wet.  Just as I worked into the wet shoreline I got a nice « 47 » scream on the Manticore.  I had to scoop three times to get the target out of the hole but when I rinsed the scoop it was empty.  As I moved toward the hole I saw the White Gold Band laying on the surface and scooped it up for Angelo who had been watching the hunt.  Vacation saved and a big Happy New Year Aloha to Angelo, Lauren & Jaymie

I received a text from a client who stated her husband had lost his wedding band in a field by their house. We spoke on the phone and set up a time for me to come out. It sounded like a pretty standard search, this time of year I worry about the amount of daylight I have when I go out in the afternoon. There were two things about this search that struck me…one was the ring was stainless steel and the other was this was one house away from a previous client.

So as with all of our searches there are the stories that go along with them and this one was pretty cool. First, it wasn’t my previous client that recommended me, it was her grandma…I got a nice chuckle out of that (Thanks Gram!). Secondly, was the story about the ring and why it was made of stainless steel. Jocelyn’s father was a machinist and he made the ring. Then I was informed that the pastor who married them had passed away and that their wedding was the last marriage that he blessed. So therein was the story behind the ring, the special extras that make this wedding ring extra special!

Next came the ride in the side by side, now I was getting a bit nervous. I thought this was going to be by the house but then we were driving up into a huge farm field across the road. On the way up Johnny explained he was tossing pumpkins in the field when he felt the ring slip off. He said it slid off when he was moving his arms backwards. He dropped me off and I marked my starting point with my shovel and a large tree limb I pulled from the wood line. I searched for a long time back and forth, when suddenly I realized – it is hunting season dummy, where is your orange…too late. I hoped my bright blue hat would be enough that I wouldn’t be confused with a big buck.  Then I found the pumpkins he tossed further out from where he left me off. I also found a large stainless steel nut they had tossed in the field when they had been looking with a metal detector. I picked it up and put it in my pocket for later. So daylight was waning and I started getting more nervous and was planning in my head for coming back out on Sunday to look again. I took a break, got out my phone and said the St. Anthony prayer for lost items. Then I put my phone away and got back at it, this time picking up the pace. I decided I would quickly search below my starting point. So I began going the other way from the tree branch I placed as my marker and within about 3 passes BAM…I found it (Thanks St. Anthony). It was starting to get dark and a huge sense of relief set it. I gathered up all my things and walked back down to the house. I sent a text saying I was done. Johnny came back and he was guessing I did not find it. Before letting the cat out of the bag, I told him that I did find something and handed him the big stainless steel nut. Then I told him there was something else and returned his ring. He was convinced I hadn’t found it and gave up because it was dark; so he was surprised and happy to have his ring back. It was great to meet more kind and generous people like Johnny and his wife and keeps me looking forward to the next client(s) and the next find.

I was contacted by Tom who lost his ring doing yard work. He was throwing some sticks and vegetation over an embankment when his ring went flying. We made arrangements and I went out to see what I could find. It was not too bad of an area to search with a lot of leaves, trees and grass clippings. I started to look and did not find it where Tom thought it might be. I then started to expand my search area. Tom in his kindness gathered some of the sticks and things and moved them into a pile a short distance from where he thought his ring would be found before I had arrived. I then went through that pile of stuff and beyond. It was on the other side of the items that Tom had cleaned up hoping to give me a better chance at finding it. He could not believe how far the ring actually traveled. I was happy to have recovered the ring and Tom was elated to have it back. Another successful day for another kind and generous client.
