It was dark already when Jackson called. He had lost his car key in the sand at the beach. He needed help, and I was available, so I was on my way to give him my assistance.

When I got there it was easy to find him, because everyone else had gone home for the day. Jackson showed me where he had been, and let me know what I was looking for. A bit of searching, and about 10 minutes later, I was able to give him back his key. He was pretty happy about that for sure.

Aron called after he lost his wedding ring at the beach. I was ready to go, and left right away to help him find it.

When I got there, it took a few minutes to find the area where he was. Aron had to leave before I arrived per a business schedule, but his friends were still there to show me where to search. It took only a few minutes to find the ring, but had to include my picture with it because his friends got it back to him.

I got a call about a lost bracelet at the beach. Carla had been enjoying her day with a group of friends when she noticed her bracelet missing from her wrist. She and her friends searched all over for it, and then called me. I was available, and left right away to do the search.

I got to the beach and found them quickly. Carla showed me the area they had been in, so I began a grid search in order to make sure all ground was covered. After about 6 passes, and a few pieces of trash metal findings, I was able to find Carla’s bracelet, and what a beauty it was. She and all of her friends were highly excited about the recovery, which made for a great group shot.

Carli called for help in finding her lost Oura Ring. She had been at the beach the day before when it got lost. I left right away to meet her down there.

I found Carli when I arrived at the beach, and she walked me out to the area of the loss. The thing I did not know about Oura Rings is that they have a « Find Me » » service. So Carli broke out her phone, and began walking around trying to narrow down the spot where the ring was showing. Finally she stopped, and said, « It is somewhere around here. » I turned on my detector, swung once, and dug once. Carli had placed right on top of the ring, and just like that she had it back.

Brandon called having lost his car key while working out at the beach. It was a rather large key, but somehow was forced beneath the sand,, where he was unable to find it. I was available, and left to meet him there right away.

When I got there, I could see where he had been searching, and began my search in that area. It took only about 5 minutes before I was able to hand Brandon his key back for which he was very thankful.

I got there in the dark, and began walking down the beach to where they said they had been. When I got there no one was there, so I called him to find out if he was around, and he let me know they were on the way. When they arrived he showed me how he had jumped from the lifeguard tower, and when he landed his ring was gone. I began my search where he had showed me, but found nothing. So I began to work out of the area. Then after about 5 more minutes I had his ring, and handed it back to him. It was a ring that was placed on his finger when he was a baby, that’s why it was split. Jason was very happy to have back.

Tatyana called me explaining how she had lost her ring after being hit by a wave at the beach. I looked at the tide chart, and realized the tide was coming in, so the opportunity for a search in the water this day was gone. We arranged to meet the next day as the tide was receding in order to have the best chance of a recovery.

When I got to the beach we found each other quickly, and Tatyana led me over to the area of the loss. She explained what had happened, and pointed out the specific area I should search. I began on the wet sand outside of the water thinking maybe the tide had gone out enough to find the ring. It wasn’t going to happen that way, so I began to search in the water finding a few pieces of trash metal. I began to come out of the water on one pass, and received a whisper of a signal in the headphones and dug, when I dumped the sand and kicked it, I saw the glimmer of gold, reached down, and had Tatyana’s ring. She had her back to me when this happened, so I walked over to her with my hand outstretched holding the ring. When she saw it she became very emotional. It was then she told me how her father had this ring custom made for her, and had passed away just this last March. This was a very important recovery for her because of the memory of her father. So glad I was able to help.

I received a call from Preston.. He lost his iPhone in the dry sand.. he actually buried it to keep  it from getting stolen then he couldn’t find his hiding spot. I was able to meet him on the beach and it was recovered within a few minutes. Now he can go home and not upset his parents about losing a phone. .. I love helping out the local young beach people. I live right here in Newport Beach. The young locals are the ones that started calling me Metal Detector Man.

Tetsuya and his wife Maya are Japanese tourists visiting Newport Beach, CA. While walking on a breakwater he dropped his IPhone on the large rocks and it went into the water. It was high tide at the time of the loss so he asked me if I could help him find the smartphone.

We met at low tide, where Tetsuya was able to point out the general area. Hopefully the phone wasn’t deep inside the rock structure where I couldn’t get my metal detector. There was also the possibility that the receding waves could have pulled the phone down the sloping beach further out into the ocean.

I started my search over a  small patch of exposed sand between two rocks. Right away I got a signal. It was not possible to determine whether it was large or small because I couldn’t swing my coil in the confined space.

The sand was wet and firmly packed but I didn’t want to use my sand scoop for fear of damaging the iphone. I started digging with my hand. About 4 inches deep I felt the corner of the phone. Almost three quarters of the phone was under a rock. Tetsuya was standing next to me  and was surprised when I touched the phone and it was still working after surviving two hours in the salt water.

It was a pleasure to help them find an important item that we all know would be a disaster to lose while vacationing thousands of mile from home.

Wedding Ring Lost In Manhattan Beach, CA…Found and Returned with Joy.

I got a text from Michael this afternoon regarding the loss of his wedding ring. He had been on the beach, and shook the hood of his sweatshirt when the ring flew off of his finger into the sand and disappeared. It wasn’t long after that we received a long anticipated rain shower that made looking for his ring a miserable chore. They were able to find me on the internet, and I agreed to meet them right away. They had been on the way to drop someone off at the airport, but chose to come back for the search.

I met Michael at the spot of the loss, and he showed me the area. I could see where he and the friends had been searching the area by dragging their fingers through the sand in a very meticulous grid search, but to no avail. I asked my numerous questions, and decided to start my search right in the area where he had been sitting. Within about 10 feet I received a good solid hit, and began to dig. The ring was deeper than I expected, and must have been driven down by the frantic searching prior to my arrival.

Michael saw the ring when it was uncovered, and with joy and extreme relief reached down and retrieved the prize. It was then I found out that he and his wife had only been married for 2 weeks, and had been on their honeymoon in the USA from Germany. By the joy expressed on Michael’s face, and the release of the pressure of discouragement that he had experienced, I knew this was a « Home run » day today.  It really feels great to bring the joy back in people’s lives!
