Lauren called me about two hours after her husband, Justin lost his gold wedding ring in the sand at Venice Beach, CA. It took a couple hours for Lauren to find me doing a google search for metal detector service.

Both of them met me on the beach about noon. Justin told me that he had put his ring in his jacket pocket while they went for a morning swim. He was sure the ring fell from the pocket as he picked up the jacket.

This should have been a quick search except they were having a little difficulty locating the spot where they had laid their belongings. This is happens often, so I asked Justin to use my sand scoop to mark the area he believed the loss occurred. I also asked him if he recognized any items or trash.

It was probably a 40 ft. square that Justin had marked off. I let him suggest the most probable side to start my grid search. After almost finishing that area. I began to search outside the marked location where Justin had noticed a piece of trash. It didn’t take but a few more minutes and I had received a great clear signal that turned out to be Justin’s ring.

They were overjoyed and very grateful as it was getting a little discouraging after the first half hour. I knew the ring would eventually show up, it’s just a matter of eliminating one area at a time. Most people don’t understand or trust that a metal detector can find a item as small as a ring in a field of sand. It’s a matter of having the best metal detectors , knowing how to operate that equipment, having the experience and patience to search in all types of conditions.

It was a pleasure to meet and help Lauren and Justin. They were very grateful to have their wedding ring recovered..

Rudan has been a beach party at Corona del Mar State Beach, Newport Beach, CA. when he lost his car key in the sand. His friend contacted me asking my for help.

Rudan showed me a 20 ft. square area where he knew the loss occurred. He did tell me that his key was broken and just the small metal piece had fallen in the sand. He said it wasn’t any bigger than a pull tab that he saw in my scoop.

After doing a quick grid, I assumed that it may have fallen through my sand scoop. Starting a second pass over the same area, I slowed my sweeping speed and checking every small signal. Boom! The small key part showed up.

Big smile from Rudan and relief that he didn’t have to go through the trouble to have his car towed. Generally lost keys in the sand a fairly easy to find with a metal detector. This was not easy. Every search has challenges

Eron contacted me about the keys to her new mailbox that had been lost in her front yard. She and her two year old son went out to get the mail, and on the way back to the house she let her son hold the keys. When they got back into the yard, she had to attend to something, and turned from her son for a minute, and when she turned back to him she noticed the keys were gone. She asked him where they were, and he told her he put them in a hole. She searched the grass for a couple of hours looking for where the keys might have been inserted into, but there was no hole in the area he was standing.

We arranged to meet, and when I got to the house, the grass was nice and groomed, and I could see no holes at all. I began my search, up, down, up, and down again, then I got the signal. I put in my pin pointer, and there in the deep thatch were the keys. The depth of the thatch, Eron’s son perceived as a hole. She was very happy to have the keys back. She did not want her picture taken, so you get mine.:-)

I got a call about 8:30 PM from Josh about his phone that he had lost earlier at the beach. He had been wrestling around with some friends with his phone in his pocket, and when they were done, the phone was gone. I got on my way immediately so as to do the search before the city beach cleaning machines come out to clean the beach.

When I got there Josh showed me the area, and I could see that he and his friends had been gridding the area by dragging their feet through the sand, but were unable to find the phone. I proceeded to grid the same area, and found that the phone was not there, so it was time to expand the search area. I went one way with no luck, then I began another grid in another direction, when I got a good long signal, put the scoop in, and his phone was in the scoop. Josh was very relieved to not have to buy a new phone!

I received an email from Barbara, asking if could help her find her husband’s ring lost in a yard a year ago. He had been throwing something to his grandkids when the ring flew off of his finger, and was gone. They never saw it again. I did not think it would be a problem as long as it was still there. She wanted to do the search on his birthday, and give the ring back to him as a present to surprise him. The ring was custom made, and he wore it as a symbol of his receiving his Black Belt as a youth, so it had great meaning and sentimental value to him.

When I got to the property, Barbara took me to the yard which was not very big, and I could see was very well manicured. There was not a blade of grass out of place, nor a leaf anywhere on the ground. I thought to myself that if it looked like this the day the ring was lost, how could they not see it, but began my search anyway. I got a good signal, and turned to the owner of the property (the grandkids father), and let him know that I would have to dig a small hole, which he was not pleased to hear, but gave me the go ahead. I dug the hole only to find a buried wire, which made him very nervous about me digging any more holes. He pointed me to another part of the yard that he remembered searching for the ring at the time it was lost. I conducted my search in that area, and got another good signal about 2 inches deep. I let him know that to recover this signal, I would have to dig again, he did not want me to, and I understood his worry, but let him and Barbara know, that the only way to find out if we had found the ring or not was to dig the signal, because I did not want to damage the ring. He finally relented, and I dug. When I flipped the plug of grass and dirt over, there in the dirt was the band of a yellow gold ring shinning in the sunlight. I pulled the ring and gave it to Barbara, needless to say, she was very happy to know that she was going to be able to surprise her husband with a wonderful birthday gift; truly a great day!

Merry had realized that her custom gold ring was missing while spending the afternoon on one of the small coves in Laguna Beach, CA. She had been playing with her dog on the upper beach and also throwing a frisbee lower on the beach near the surf line.

After a couple hours searching the dry sand with no success, she was able to contact me using a google search. I was able to meet her on the beach before she had to leave.  Merry told me that this was a very special ring that was given to her years ago, celebrating a very important day in her life. It worried her because she had not felt the ring leave her finger and it was a large search area.

After hearing her story, I felt the most likely place to start was where she had spent the most time. The area where she was throwing the frisbee seemed the best place to lose a ring, that would be next. The area had large rocks and driftwood that could be challenging.

We were lucky to start in the right location and it only took a few minutes swing my detector coil over a sting solid signal. One scoop about 6 inches deep and a beautiful unique custom gold ring was clanking in the bottom of my scoop.

Merry was standing just a few feet from me. She heard the heavy metal banging in my scoop. I held the scoop close enough for her to see her precious ring inside. An instantly she  screamed with joy and a big smile.

It was a great search that went well. With all the obstacles and a large search area it could been much more difficult. Every search is an adventure.

Recovered lost hearing aid from Alki Beach Seattle, WA

  • from Mercer Island (Washington, United States)

Lisa’s called me asking for assistance in fining her lost hearing aid at Alki Beach that she had just received just a few days prior.  She explained that the wind had picked up a bit so she remembered placing her hoodie over her head and taking the hood off before departing and that is when she realized her left hearing aid was missing. Fortunately her new hearing aid technology came equipped with a feature to track her lost hearing aid from the application on her phone. Most likely this uses a BlueTooth technology and the app shows the signal strength of the Left and Right hearing aids respectively. She was able to confirm that the lost hearing aid was still somewhere at the beach however was not able to see it with a visual search.  I agreed to assist her knowing that this app was confirming the lost hearing aid as still being on the beach so we had a very strong opportunity of a recovery.

She meet me at the beach and we reconfirmed the lost hearing aid was still in the area with her app. It actually showed the signal strength getting stronger as we got closer to the lost device. By using the tacking technology of the application and a handheld pinpointer medal detector we were able to unbury her lost haring aid. As with any other heavy item lost over a dry sandy beach the hearing aid was completely buried under the sand with only a small clear plastic bit sticking up at the surface. If only using the app and a visual search it would be very difficult to locate it. We were both very happy to have recovered this device undamaged.

If your  are in the market for a pair of hearing aids or replacements seriously consider a model that supports a « Find my lost hearing aid » feature though a smart phone app! This technology has a lot of value in recovering these very expensive hearing aid devices.

Watch the recovery of the lost hearing aid from the sands of Alki Beach!

Cheers,

Jeff Morgan

Diamond Rings Found in the Naples Florida Sand by Metal Detector Mark Greul & why you need to hire a professional metal detector

  • from Marco Island (Florida, United States)

[April 23, 2019 – Naples, Florida] Got a call from Brian’s wife who reported having lost two rings at the beach.  The rings she’s carefully guarded in her pocket were likely lost as she was tending her children and applying more sunscreen.  So, why hire a professional metal detector?  Well, several hours of searching, traffic, and sifting through the sand had only managed to broaden the search area and drive the rings deeper.  The wedding band was the first to be found.  It gave off a faint signal being buried in about 5-6 inches of sand and canted at a 45 decgree angle.  The diamond solitaire proved to be a bit more tricky.  It was found nearby, yielding only an occasional very very faint signal as it was 6-8 inches deep standing nearly straight up.  The rest is now history and another « story » added to a family’s memorable vacation in Naples, Florida.  What was once lost has been found – thank God!

If you’ve lost a ring or sentimental item, don’t hesitate calling.  Literally, TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!  With years of metal detecting experience, the best and most sophisticated metal detecting equipment, and numerous recoveries and even more finds, the testimonials and results are why you need to hire a professional metal detector.  Call Mark (239)500-RING [7464] or Text (239)770-7873 – metal detector rental services – Naples, Marco Island, Ft.
