Kartik had lost his ring at the beach, and needed help. He called and we made arrangements to meet there to conduct the search.

When I got there Kartik had the general idea of the area the ring was lost in, and described the conditions of how it was lost. I began my search which did not take long, and was able to reunite him with what he felt he had lost forever. A great day.

Lost and found gold diamond wedding band in Cobourg Ontario

Received a text from Amir yesterday about his wife having lost her diamond wedding band while at the beach in Cobourg Ontario. She had taken her ring off to apply sun tan lotion and placed it on their beach blanket. Seeing friends down the beach, they quickly picked up their belongings and relocated. A short while later, she realized that her ring was gone. They all tried to find the ring in the sand but were not successful. Normally, this would be a quick and fairly easy recovery. However, Amir did not find my information/services until a week had gone by since she’d lost her ring. My biggest fear was that there are a lot of metal detectorists that searches this beach every single day and the ring might of been picked up. Still, we had to try. After exchanging information and details via Google Earth, I headed out last evening to find it. Although the beach was still fairly busy with people and after careful gridding for two and a half hour, I was able to locate her ring. Thank god it was still there. Amir has requested not to have their picture posted due to privacy.  Beautiful evening, did not have to get wet Scuba diving and another happy ending. Life is good.

Joe contacted me late at night, seeking help to find a lost sentimental gold medallion. Shay had been running on the beach in Sea Isle City, New Jersey, when the medallion slipped off as the necklace clasp came undone. Despite their efforts, they couldn’t locate the treasured item. The following morning, I joined Joe and Shay for a thorough search of the area. After gathering more details on the situation, I successfully found the precious medallion that belonged to Shay’s mother. With the medallion found, they could enjoy the rest of their day in Sea Isle City, New Jersey.

Diamond Earring recovered in back yard in Manalapan NJ

Got a call from Rose asking for help in locating her diamond earring she lost in the back yard at her father’s house. Told her I’d give it a try but I asked her to bring the other earring to make sure the detector would detect it with the small amount of metal in them. I met her at her father’s house where she was to celebrate his up coming birthday. I checked the other earring and it came up good so she took me to where she was. She found the backing in the grass but they couldn’t find the earring. I figured the earring came out and the backing stuck in her hair and fell out alittle later. She gave me the area she was playing with her dog and i went to work. I made 5 passes up and down on finally got the midtone and number on my detector screen which matched the other earring and looking through the blades of grass I saw her earring. She was going through her car looking for it and I walked out but told her that I was getting eaten alive by bugs, she probably thought i was giving up then I reached out and showed her the earring. She couldn’t believe I found it. Aother great happy ending.

Lost Yellow Gold & Diamonds Ring at Hunakai Beach in Kahala…FOUND!!!

This ring find began when I got a call from Kaylee who lives on Oahu.  While enjoying the day at Hunakai Beach she went to brush the sand off her hands that was sticking to the suntan lotion and her Yellow Gold & Diamonds Ring flew off but she didn’t see exactly where it went.  It was sand and ground cover involved.  She initially through a Google search found our fellow ring-finder Dave Sheldon on Maui and he referred her to me knowing I lived 5 minutes from that beach.  I told Kaylee I just left work and would stop at home grab my gear and be right there for a recovery.  When I arrived Kaylee and her friend Kanoe were near the beach access and shouted over to me as I entered the beach area.  Kaylee described what happened and I immediately fired up the Nox-800 and started the search.  First target was a nice loud #9 but it took three scoops to get the target.  There was plenty of beach plant debris in the scoop but as I removed it Kaylee’s beautiful ring came into view.  Here you go!  She looked so relieved as I handed her the ring.  Short and sweet recovery!  Aloha to Kaylee and Kanoe!

Lost Platinum & Gold Wedding & Engagement Rings at Aulani Lagoon…FOUND!!!

This ring find began back on August 3rd when I received a text from Jaimie visiting from Massachusetts and celebrating her 10th Wedding Anniversary with her husband Ryan at the Aulani Resort at Ko Olina.  Her text said she had lost her three Engagement and Wedding Bands in the water 40 hours prior.  She was swimming with her husband at high tide and the water was fairly rough.  The water was over her head and probably a foot over her husbands head as they tried searching with snorkels.  Sadly they were leaving later that morning and Jaimie was obviously stressed about the highly sentimental loss.  I assured her I would do my best at a recovery.  My first opportunity was Saturday morning and I donned my scuba gear thinking this would be a fairly easy recovery in water a foot or more over my head and with the excellent location data Jaimie provided.  I brought my fluorescent orange grid line with me and started the scuba hunt in front of the Ama Ama restaurant.  After about a 2 hour underwater hunt I had only found a few trash targets with the Manticore.  I called Jaimie with the unfortunate news but assured her I would hunt again as there was a moment when a swimmer snagged my grid line and pulled me off target.  Again we went over the details of the loss and nothing changed.  The hurricane passed by Oahu and stirred up the lagoons but on Wednesday it was clear to hunt again.  OMG the same results this time I might have recovered two targets I missed the first time.  I assured Jaimie that I was going to attempt a Friday morning hunt when all the environmentals  were perfect.  Especially a low tide.  I arrived early and decided to hunt the lagoon walking until the sun was up over the hotels.  About ten minutes into the hunt, I got multiple targets in chest deep water.   On the second scoop there was a Platinum Band with Diamonds in the scoop.  I went for the next target and it was a White Gold band with Diamonds.  « Thank You Lord » I exclaimed knowing there was another target still on the bottom.  It took a few scoops but finally the Platinum Engagement ring with Diamonds was in the scoop.  Trifecta complete.  What a relief.  But why were they so shallow?  When I went ashore I started talking to the Catamaran sailors and we think what happened was Jaimie lost her rings on the extreme « King Tide » which is often a foot deeper then the normal high tide in the lagoon.  I’ll take that!  Whatever the reason we were blessed.  As you can see in the pic Jaimie received her rings back in Massachusetts this afternoon.  Puts a lump in my throat everytime!  Aloha to Jaimie & Ryan!

Lady’s Yellow Gold Wedding Ring Lost in the Ocean, Found and Returned North Myrtle Beach, SC

On Thursday, just before 4 pm, I got a text saying, “Is this ring finders? We have a lost wedding ring out there in the ocean today, north myrtle beach. My mother has had it for 44 years 🙁 I called the number attached to the text and spoke with Sara. She told me that her, her mother, Debbie, and her sister, Kadie had arrived about 1 pm for a girl’s week. Her mother had gone out shortly after arrival to about knee deep in the surf. She suddenly got hit by a big wave and got knocked over. Sara also said her mother was tumbling around in the water and when she finally stood up; her wedding ring was gone. I asked Sara about what time this happened, and she told me about 1 pm. This was good news because high tide was right around 1 and it was now shortly before 4 so the tide was receding.  I told Sara I’d be there in 15-20 minutes, grabbed my Equinox 800 and was on my way.

When I arrived at the condo, Sara was waiting for me in the parking lot and gave me a parking pass. On our way out to the beach she reiterated the details and said she was sure of the location. Once on the beach, I met Debbie and Kadie. One thing that was very obvious to me was that these young ladies really love their mother. I could tell Debbie was very upset but held her emotions in check. Both Kadie and Sara showed me the search area and it was maybe 25 yards across. I confirmed that the metal was yellow gold and from the picture they showed me, I was expecting a 12/13 on the VDI (visual display indicator). I noticed Debbie had gone back to their room, while Sara and Kadie found a spot on the beach to watch. I started a perpendicular grid search at the far north boundary line.  Since the loss happened over 3 hours ago by now, I expected the ring to be in the wet sand and not in the ocean. Nonetheless, I ran my grid line out to about thigh deep. I was about 3 lines short of the southern boundary line and in the wet sand when I got a solid 13 on the VDI. I took a scoop of sand and laid it out on the beach. I spread the sand out with my foot and saw a little glimmer of gold and the outline of a ring. BINGO! I reached down and picked up the ring and held it up for Sara and Kadie to see. They both saw me at the same time, I think one of them gave a little scream of excitement, and literally flew down to me. I didn’t want to give it to them until I had washed the sand off in the ocean, they were patient. When they had their hands on it they were so excited. They quickly called Debbie and gave her the good news. I couldn’t see her, but one of the girl’s said Debbie was on the balcony waving her hands. What a feeling it was to hand Debbie back her ring of 44 years. She had called her husband when it happened and gave him the bad news. I got to hear her call him back and give him the good news; he was very excited for her. I love these lost item reunions.

`Woman’s Yellow Gold and Diamond Wedding Ring Lost in the Sand, Found and Returned Holden Beach NC

On Thursday, August 24th, I woke up to a text saying, “Good morning. Yesterday I lost my wedding ring at Holden beach to the left of the pier about 100 yards just about the high tide water mark in the soft sand. I posted on Face book, and some posted your contact information. Is this something you are able to help with?” I called the number and talked with Shannon, who had lost the ring. She confirmed that the ring was lost in the soft sand. I got a few more details and we agreed to meet at noon. I got ready to go and invited my wife, Jan to come along. She loves looking for shells and shark’s teeth at Holden Beach.

When we arrived at the pier, Shannon was waiting in the parking lot. As we walked out on the beach, Shannon said that she had been sitting out on the beach the day before and had the ring on. Later that evening, when she was back at the rental, she realized her wedding ring was gone. She was pretty sure her ring came off at the beach where they were sitting. She also mentioned that she did walk the beach for a short distance. Her and her friends set me up in the dry sand where they had been sitting. After I started a grid search, they started wondering if they were a little east or west of the spot in the area I was searching. I asked if they had taken any pictures and thankfully, they had. Shannon showed me one picture that I was able to use to line up directly behind one of the beach houses. I continued my grid search working west in relation to what I saw in the picture. After a few more minutes I hit a solid 15 on the VDI (visual display indicator) but it was showing about 8 inches deep. I had the number I was expecting, but deeper than I was expecting. I took a big scoop of sand and dumped it out on the beach and saw the gold in the sand. I reached down, picked it up and held it up for Shannon to see. She got so excited; she gave me a big hug and big smiles.

Gold wedding band found in Iowa Lake

  • After my last find I received a message from a friend about a Facebook post in the Clear Lake Iowa group.  A gentleman was looking for the guy he saw metal detecting a couple weeks prior. Seems he lost his wedding band at the same beach and lake in the prior find.  I sent him a message and my wife Jeni and I made a plan to pack the camper and spend a couple days in Clear Lake. We arrived and then this morning we went and met Robert at the beach and he took us out to where he lost it. They were standing in the water and he felt it slip off. They were very close to one of the 300’ buoys that marked off the swim area so again we used that as a reference. After searching for a while Robert had to leave as he had some work to do. Jeni and I continued searching and about an hour or so later we were able to come up with the ring. It rang up a solid 61 on the AT Max. We sent Robert a text and continued to scan the area just for fun and found another ring but it was just a gold plated costume ring but neat anyway.  I detected the area for the next couple hours and have to say if bottle tops and beverage tabs were worth anything I would be well off. Also found what I assume to be a boat part and top of a shotgun shell. Just as in life, sometimes you have to sift through trash to get to the gold. We were able to return the Ring to another very happy customer. It was a great day!

Wildwood Crest, NJ Lost gold chain and charm, FOUND! By: Jeffrey Laag

Carlos explained that he was holding his sons gold chain and charm while at the beach on July 4th. At some point he unknowingly dropped the chain / charm and did not realize it until later. His wife reached out and explained the situation and that her husband was beside himself for loosing it. On July 5th I headed out to search the area using aerial pics and face time meetings to get me into the suspected search area as the family was out of the area. Searched for about 2hrs with no luck. Several weeks later I wanted to recheck the area since i was already at the beach with family and BINGO I had the chain in about 15-20 minutes of searching. I suspect that either the beach rake may have dragged the chain some or people were sitting on top of it when I searched the first time. Carlos and his wife were in disbelief when I told them that I had their heirloom chain. They were reunited with their item this morning. Another happy family!
