Vernon’s wife contacted me about doing a search for his wedding ring he had lost the day before in a small cove at the state beach. We arranged to have him meet me there so he could take me to the area of the loss.

When I got there I met with Vernon, and we walked to the cove he had been in the day before. He showed me what he had done to cause the loss, and where he thought it probably went. I began my search, and it wasn’t long before I had his wedding ring in my scoop. His assessments were correct about where it had gone which made the search very quick. I was happy to get it back to him, and it made for a nice day.

I received a call from Hector’s girlfriend telling me that he had lost a very personal medallion in the sand at the beach. It was already dark when she called, but knowing that the County machine cleans that beach daily, I let them know I was able to come and do a search right away.

I met Hector at our agreed to meeting point, and he then walked me out to the area of the loss. His girlfriend was out there holding the place, which was very helpful because finding areas at the beach at night can be a little tricky. I was able to see where they had been searching, and began my search there. It wasn’t long before I got a great signal, dug, and had Hector’s medallion in the scoop. It had been his Grandfather’s, and meant a lot to him. Another successful search, with a happy ending. Hector did not want his face in the shot, but he was smiling.

Gabriella called, having lost a bracelet that meant a lot to her, in the sand at the beach earlier that day. It was getting late, so I decided to go quickly in order to get parking because the beach closes when the sun goes down.

Gabriella was not able to be there to show me the spot, but gave me enough information to put me in the area of the loss. When I got there I sent her a picture, and we were able to narrow the search area even more. I searched for about 15 minutes before I found the bracelet. It looked like someone might have stepped on it because it had been bent out of shape, but with no damage of any kind. We arranged to meet the next day for the return, and that is when she explained that the bracelet was given to her by her partner on their trip to Japan, and had a very deep sentimental meaning for her.

Madison called on 4th of July night after losing her Oura ring. I figured the beach would be full of people shooting off their fireworks, so I asked if we could do the search the next morning.

I got there a little before Madison, and could see that the beach had not been cleaned. She took me out to the area, and proceeded to take out her phone and look around. I asked if the ring had a find my ring feature, which she said it did. She gave me an area, and when I swung my detector, I got a signal, dug, and had her ring. That app put her right on top of it; AMAZING! I was able to give it to her, which made her day.

Olivia called me asking if I could help her. She had been at the beach with a friend. She wisely removed her jewelry to go into the water, and put them on her towel. What happened next was that her friend lifted the towel not knowing the jewelry was there, and they were lost in the sand. I let her know I would leave right away for the search.

When I got to the beach Olivia was not there yet, so I began my search in the area described. It took about 5 minutes, and I had her bracelet, and both her earrings. I waited for her to get to the search site, and was able to give them all back at that time. She informed me that the earrings were a gift from her mother, which made them extra special. A great recovery!

Sonny called me after dark having lost a precious heirloom pendant while playing volleyball at Mother’s Beach in Marina Del Rey. I was available, and let him know I would get there as soon as I could to help him find his lost keepsake.

I arrived a little early, and phoned Sonny to let him know I was there. He saw me in the parking lot, and let me know where he was. I got with him and asked what had happened, and the area of the possible loss. I then got my equipment ready, and began my search. I searched the side of the court he had been playing in first with no luck. I then went to the other side, and halfway into the first pass, a very strong signal rang in my head phones. I dug, and as I was shaking out my scoop, Sonny could hear the clanging of the large pendant, and exclaimed that’s it, he found it. As can be seen in the photo, he is very happy to have back something that means something special to the family.

Nadia contacted me hoping I could help in finding her ring. She had lost it a local SoCal beach while playing volley ball with her family. The family was on vacation from Idaho, and did not want to leave without her ring. I let them know I would be there as fast as I could get there.

When I got there Nadia showed me what happened, and gave me a general area of where the ring might be. I began my search pass after pass, finding a few pieces of metal until I got a good tone in the head phones. I dug, and there in the scoop was a beautiful class ring that I was able to give back to Nadia. The family was very happy that they would be able to go back home with everything complete.

LOST NATIVE AMERICAN JEWELRY IN THE ALTADENA FIRE FOUND AND RETURNED

  • from Santa Monica (California, United States)

Felisha called me and asked if I could help her find some sterling silver Native American jewelry that was lost when her house burned down in the Altadena fire. It was very important to her because her late mother had handed it down to her. I told her that it could have survived. I met her at the site as soon as the weather permitted on the first clear day.  We’ve had a lot of rain lately. I shoveled and sifted after moving some debris and found all six of her silver bracelets and one of her silver chains. I also found a sterling silver pocket knife that belonged to her late  father. The search on the other side of the fireplace was a different story.  There were cat figurines and family china that were important to her but they were buried under plaster and chicken wire walls that had collapsed inward. I broke up the wall with a large crowbar and a shovel to expose the chicken wire. I used an electric cutting grinder to slice through the chicken wire then tossed 20 to 40 pound segments out of the way. I finally exposed some of the figurines, native American pottery and an old collectable tile. This was a labor intensive search. Digging for a couple of hours in a hazmat suit can feel like your in a sauna but the search was successful and Falisha was happy to be reunited with her prized possessions.

Maria contacted me about the loss of her house, and wondered if I would be available to help her find some missing items that were left behind. I let her know when I would be free for the search, and we arranged to meet at a local restaurant because her house was in a gated community.

When I arrived I really wasn’t expecting what I saw. The house was partially standing, and it was built with a steel infrastructure which was all over the place. She told me that one of the most important items to find was a diamond engagement ring that had been given to her by her husband who had passed at an early age. she showed me where she last believed it had been, but on the second floor which was now on the first floor. So I began to work. I found many parts of figurines with a couple intact. I also found a bunch of doll arms and legs. I used a reciprocating saw to remove some of the steel beams in order to get at some of the rubble underneath them, and began finding coins. I felt I had found the area where the ring would be, so I kept sifting. I worked that area until I was scraping the floor all over, but no ring. After 5 hours, I had 168 coins, numerous doll arms and legs, and 2 intact chains along with 4 chain fragments.

Maria asked if I could come back to look again in a different area, so we agreed on another day for the search. When I arrived, Maria was already shoveling rubble to be sifted, and I got right to work. I worked for another 3 hours, and we were able to find the ring she really wanted to find as well as 2 others, and 2 earrings. With all of these searches I find that the people I am helping are hurt, very hurt, but not broken. There is a deep resilience in their character that I admire.

I did come back a 3rd time, and was only able to find a few chain fragments.
