Late last night I got a text from Steve who was camping at ThorneHill Broome Beach just north of Malibu. He and his wife had been stargazing on the sand when he went to get up and as he did his platinum ring fell off and buried itself in the dry sand. It was late, it was dark and searching was futile so Steve did the next best thing and searched the internet and found Dave The RingFinder. I messaged him back that I would be there bright and early the next morning and get his ring back to him so he could enjoy the rest of his camping stay.

I met Steve at 6:45am at the picnic table area where the loss occurred. The problem of finding his ring became apparent almost immediately in that picnic tables at beaches in Southern California are loaded with every bit of metal trash there is. Pull-tabs, rusty bottle caps, chunks of aluminum foil and items burned from fires long ago where all throughout the sand where the ring was lost. This was going to be hunt where I needed to eliminate as much trash as possible so I could actually hear his ring. Scoop after scoop of metal junk came out and finally I had the ability to listen for his ring and within a minute or two I got the sound I was looking for and Steve’s ring was in my scoop and going back to him! Another ring saved in Malibu by Dave The RingFinder.

I got a call yesterday afternoon from Grant. His wife had lost her heirloom wedding ring in the sand at Thornehill Broome Beach in Malibu. Evidently she had shaken her hound out to get sand off and when she did her ring went flying and landed somewhere in the dry sand. They spent the next few hours frantically searching in that sand to no avail. Finally they took to the internet and found Dave The RingFinder and gave me a call. I made immediate plans to leave and get down to them and off I went.

I met them at the location and we talked about where it could have gone. I assured them I would find it in no time as I would grid the area and I would find it. I made a couple passes on the perimeter of the search area and when I moved in I got a sweet sound on my Minelab manticore and we had the ring back! This was a mission critical ring as it had been passed down several generations and was eventually going to her daughter for when she got married. Dave The RingFinder for the win!

Georgia called letting me know she had lost her engagement ring at the beach. It was dark at the time, but she was hopeful that I would be able to help her. I told her that I was available, and would come right away.

I got to the beach in a good amount of time because of traffic at this hour, and met up with Georgia. We went to the area of the loss where she explained what she believed happened to lose the ring. I went right to working a tight grid in the darkness. Finding pieces of trash metal is not uncommon. so to dig every signal especially at night is very important. After about 10 minutes I had her ring, and was able to return it to her. It helps when the person can meet me at the spot to narrow down the search area, and this was another reason for success. She very happy to have her ring back.

Olga contacted me explaining that she had lost her wedding ring in ice plant outside her beach front home. It seemed like a search that should be done right away, so we made arrangements to do the search that day.

When I arrived Olga took me to the back of the house, and showed me where the ring had gone; the ice plant was thick. She then showed me how she believed the ring got there, and where she believed it probably was. I proceeded to search in the area she showed me with no luck. I expanded out in the direction she had shown, and continued in that direction; nothing. I was going to go in a different direction, but she insisted I continue looking where she thought it had gone. I have found over the years that sometimes our spacial view of things can be a bit skewed when we see things, and especially when all things look the same, as in a very large mat of ice plant. After finishing the requested area search, I convinced her to allow me to search in the other direction, and within minutes I found her ring. We know as Ringfinders, that searching « out of the box » can result, in many occasions, in a successful recovery. Olga ended up pleased with my request.
