Sahil called having lost his ring in the sand volleyball court at the beach. This had been given to him, so it had great sentimental value. I was available, so I left to go help him right away.

When I got to the beach, we found each other quickly. Sahil then took me to the area he believed the ring had been lost in, so I got my equipment ready, and began my grid. Well this search did not end quickly, as I went over the entire area he showed me finding a lot of trash metal, but no ring. He then showed me another area he thought might have the ring, more trash metal, but not that one either. Once more there was another possibility, so I began a new grid, and then about 8 passes in on that area, I « struck gold »! There it was in the scoop, a beautiful gold and jeweled ring which I was able to give back to Sahil who was very grateful.

I got a call about a lost bracelet at the beach. Carla had been enjoying her day with a group of friends when she noticed her bracelet missing from her wrist. She and her friends searched all over for it, and then called me. I was available, and left right away to do the search.

I got to the beach and found them quickly. Carla showed me the area they had been in, so I began a grid search in order to make sure all ground was covered. After about 6 passes, and a few pieces of trash metal findings, I was able to find Carla’s bracelet, and what a beauty it was. She and all of her friends were highly excited about the recovery, which made for a great group shot.

I received a call after dark from Emily. It seemed that her husband had lost his ring in the sand, and they were unable to find it. I was available, and let them know I was on my way.

When I arrived, the beach was dark, so we had a bit of a problem finding each other for a few minutes. When we got together Emily and Mitch (her husband) took me out to the area of the loss. In less than 10 minutes, Mitch had his ring back, and there were smiles all around.

Alex called and said that he had lost his platinum wedding ring earlier in the day playing volleyball at the beach. It was night now, but I wanted to assure him I would come out immediately and do a search.

I arrived, and we found each other. Alex then walked me over to the volleyball courts, and showed me where he believed the ring came off. I got ready, and then began my grid of the area. I made about 6 passes, and then heard a good signal through the head phones. I dug with my scoop, shook the sand out, and there was Alex’s ring. I gave it back to a very happy man.

This had to be one of my craziest searches, in fact I even wonder today why I just didn’t walk away from it when I got there. I received a call from Alexis asking if I could come and help her find her ring she lost in the bushes the day before. I let her know I could, and we arranged a time for me to be there.

I arrived, and found my parking further down the street from Alexis’ house. I sent her a text to let her know I was there, and walked over to the house. As I was heading over I saw a man come out of the house, and start working on a car a couple doors down. I stopped in front of the house, sent another text, and waited. Not long after Alexis came out with a small dog, and I waved to let her know I was who she was waiting for. She put her finger to her mouth to shush me, and pointed to the man (her husband) working on the car. It was then I began to rethink being there. I realized she did not want her husband to know that I was there to help her. She pointed to the other side of the street, and down the block to meet her there, which I did, and then she explained how she had been walking her dog, and lost the ring in the bushes not far from where her husband was working. I told her I would search the area for her, and walked over to begin. Fortunately her husband was preoccupied with what he was doing to see the two of us talking. I searched for about 30 minutes in thick ground cover, while Alexis was walking her dog up and down the street occasionally stopping to see my progress. I found the ring, and held it toward her to let her know it was found. She came right over to retrieve it, and I looked to see that her husband had gone back into the house. I have no idea what was going on between the two, and Alexis did not want her picture taken, but I do know that even police officers do not like walking into domestic disputes, as they can be very explosive. Alexis was very relieved to have her ring back, and I was relieved that nothing more came of it. It was a good recovery.

Rosa called me for help. She had been in her local park the day before, and had taken off her wedding and engagement rings, and held them in her hand as she was walking along. Suddenly she tripped, and without realizing it opened her hand causing the rings to fly out in front of her into the tall grass. She was able to find the wedding ring, but not the engagement ring. We arranged a time to meet, and I was on my way.

When I got there Rosa walked me over to the area where she had tripped. While on our way over she told how she had searched hours, and how her husband had been out there looking until 3:00 AM. Jared sent me a contact asking if I would be able to help find his lost wedding ring. I posed a few questions regarding the loss, and wondered if he was still at the site. He told me he lived in a city 50 miles away, so I figured not. It was already dark, but I told him I would go and do a search for him if he were able to pin point the area he thought the ring was lost. He thought about doing it the next day, but I explained how time would work against a successful recovery, so he gave me guidance to the area.

I arrived at the area, and made my way down to the pinned spot he had shown me in a satellite image. I marked the area and began a grid larger than he had shown to insure nothing was missed. I went pass after pass digging every tone to be sure. I found numerous pieces of trash metal, some with promising signals, but no ring. Then about 30 feet off the mark I received a good strong signal, dug, and had his ring. I took a picture, and told him I found it. I was in the process of writing to find out when I would be able to make the return when Jared told me that he and his wife were having dinner just 5 miles up the road on my way home. I let him know that I would meet him in the parking lot, and was on my way. When I got there he was outside waiting in disbelief that this all happened to get his ring back, and he told me he had only been married 2 months. How exciting is that!

John sent me a text explaining how he had been putting up his Christmas lights, and realized his wedding ring was missing. He searched the area very diligently with a small handheld metal detector, yet was unable to locate it. I let him know that I could come right away to help find it for him.

When I got to John’s house he met me at the spot of the loss, and explained how he believed it occurred. I turned on my detector, and John went back to the house allowing me to get right to work. I made a couple of sweeps with my coil, and then I had to move a metal stake to cover another area. Right then I received the signal I was looking for, put in my pin pointer, and had John’s ring in about 2 minutes. I called him, and asked, « how fast did he want this job done? » He could not believe it was found so quickly. It does make a big difference when a person has the right equipment, and is expert in using it. Needless to say John was ecstatic at having his ring recovered.

Gold Ring Lost in Santa Monica Backyard…Found and Joyfully Returned.

Alan called asking for help in finding a ring his wife had lost in their back yard. I was doing a search in a burned home in the Palisades at the time of the call, and told Alan I would be able to help him after I was finished.

When I got there Alan introduced me to his wife Ronnie, and she took me to the backyard showing me the area of the loss. It wasn’t very big, but the grass was tall and thick which would hide a ring easily. I began my search working the open area with no luck. Then I began working around some pots and pallets in the area. At the corner of one of the pallets I received a solid signal, put my pinpointer in, and found her ring. It had been her grandmother’s ring, and she became very emotional when I gave it back to her. It turned out to be a great day.

*** Will was building a storage shed in his backyard. Later that evening while inside his house he noticed his gold wedding ring was not on his finger. He never felt it come off. This is normal because when people wear rings for many years, the ring can still feel like it’s on.

He called me explaining the circumstances of his loss. He couldn’t remember exactly when he last saw the ring before discovering his ring missing. It could be anywhere. We set up a day that I could search his backyard as that was where he had done a lot of activity, moving construction materials with high grass that could hide a small gold ring.

The game plan was to eliminate the backyard using a metal detector. If that was unsuccessful we had many other places that a metal detector may not be able to be used. We didn’t waste time discussing all the other areas the ring could be. It’s a process of elimination, one area at a time. Why get yourself confused with all the possibilities.

Metal detectors are a great tool for finding lost rings, but they do have limitations. So I used the my metal detector in the yard, where it works the best.

Sometimes you start in the right place, which was what happened this day.. 20 minutes in the backyard grass .. BOOM!  Will’s gold ring was found near his small construction project.

He was inside at the time of the recovery. When he came out to see how I was doing , I was able to surprise him.. and able to show him where it had been hiding.
