Yesterday, Bon called me after a heartbreaking loss at Malibu Lagoon Beach. While enjoying a sunny afternoon with his family, he realized his cherished 23k gold bracelet, a gift from 15 years ago, had slipped off his wrist. This wasn’t just any bracelet—it hadn’t left his wrist since the day he received it. Devastated, Bon and his wife feared it was gone forever in the vast sands of Malibu, CA.Bon wasn’t sure where the bracelet was lost. He and his son had been playing in both the wet sand and dry sand near Malibu Lagoon State Beach, covering an area about half a football field. This was a job for Dave The RingFinder, your go-to metal detection expert in Malibu.
I arrived at the beach and marked out the search area based on Bon’s description. Using my Minelab Manticore, I began gridding the Malibu Lagoon Beach sands. The area was littered with rusty nails and debris from bonfires, common at this popular Malibu beach. I thoroughly searched the dry sand with no luck, then moved to the wet sand and slope where Bon and his son had been throwing stones. Still, only quarters and iron junk turned up.Expanding the search was key. I returned to the dry sand and gridded perpendicular to the shoreline. On my second pass, I got a solid 6 on my detector—a promising signal! Carefully digging with my CKG scoop to avoid damage, I spotted a gold link dangling from the scoop. Shaking out the sand revealed Bon’s 23k gold bracelet—recovered! Another successful mission for Dave The RingFinder in Malibu, CA!

Car Key Lost in Ivy in Inglewood…Found and Returned

  • from Redondo Beach (California, United States)

If you have lost something call right away, the chances of a recovery diminish with each passing hour. Steve Smith: 310-953-5268

Ebrahim called explaining how he had lost his car key in the ivy at his apartment complex. We arranged to meet the next day knowing that if he was unable to find it, it wasn’t likely to be found by someone not knowing it was there.

When I got there Ebrahim took me over to the site of the loss, and he told me how it occured. It happened on the stairs up to his apartment, and the emergency key that was in his fob bounced out when it hit the step after being dropped. It then went into the ivy below. He found the fob, but was unable to find the key. I could see where he had been searching, and went over the area myself with the detector. I then had to start working out from his search area, and about 12 inches from where he had been searching I found his key. Ebrahim came over, and was relieved to have it back.

Got a contact from Douglass. He had lost his wedding ring in the back yard of his house. He had cleaned his hands, and flicked his hand in a downward motion to free it from the water, when his ring slid off. He heard it hit the ground, but did not see it land. After a thorough search he called. I let him know I would come right away.

When I arrived, Douglass took me to where the loss occurred, and showed me what he had done. The area was not real large, but there was a lot of thick ground cover in which to lose something small like a ring. I began my search going over the area that was thought to hold the missing item, but was unable to find it. I then went further out, got a good signal, looked down, and was able to see it down in between the ground cover. I called Douglass over, and showed him where I found it, which surprised him that it had gone so far, and he was very happy to have it back on his finger. I am very happy to have been able to help him out finding something so important to him.

Yonatan contacted me because he had lost his ring at the beach earlier in the day, and had exhausted all possibilities of finding it. It was about 9:00 PM, but told him that because the beach is detected frequently, and cleaned by machines in the morning, that I would go that night if he would wait for me. He agreed, and I was on my way.

When I got there Yonatan was with a group of friends, and they came over as I was walking out to them. They were excited at the possibility of him getting his ring back, as was I. He told me he was playing volley ball when the ring came off, and he knew when and where it happened. In fact they had even marked the spot with a sandal. He told me it was silver, and began to describe it, when I said, that it will probably be the only ring I find that night. Well I turn the detector on, swing a couple of times, and get a solid silver tone in the head phones. I dig, and in the scoop is a silver ring. I hold it out for Yonatan, who comes over. He takes it, holds it in his hand, and says to my surprise, this ring is not mine. Who would have known? So I continued the search working pass after pass until I was a good distance outside of the designated search area when I got another solid silver tone, dug, and had another silver ring in the scoop. This time it was his, and the excitement among his friends was electric. It was about 11:00 PM. He then told me he was on vacation from Israel, and was going back the next week. We got to talk a little about his country, because my wife and I had visited back in 2019, and had a wonderful time. So great to see so many smiles in one place!

Kevin contacted me about 12:00 midnight after having lost his wedding ring earlier in the day. When he told me where he lost it, I told him it would be best to go right away, because this area is detected like clockwork by other treasure hunters. He agreed, and we both rushed to the area.

We were there by about 12:30 AM. He got there just before me, and sent a text telling me that another detector was searching the area, and he would try to keep him from the spot. As I walked down I saw the other guy moving into the area where Kevin was standing, so I went right over. I let the other guy know why I was there, and he didn’t seem too happy as he kept searching the same area. We got to where we actually bumped coils a couple of times, but I kept to my search plan after Kevin showed me where to look. A couple more swings of the coil, a dip of the scoop, and I had Kevin’s ring which I promptly handed back to him, and then we both left the spot to the other guy. I know Kevin appreciated the fact that I was not afraid to stand my ground when it came to helping him, and I was glad to do it. He told me he had searched so hard earlier crawling on his hands and knees, that his knees had become raw, and was so surprised at how quickly the recovery was made. We made it by the skin of our teeth with just minutes to spare, and I was so happy to have made Kevin’s day.

Wedding Ring Lost Off Deck in Yard in Eagle Rock…Found and Returned.

Josh contacted me regarding his wedding ring that he lost while washing his dog on his backyard deck. His house is on a hillside, and his deck is a couple stories above the ground below. He was washing the dog when he flicked his hand, and the ring came off and bounced into the grass down below. He watched it go over the side, so he had an idea of where it could have gone, but the ground cover below was thick and tall; and very hard to find something as small as a ring.

When I got there Josh showed me the area he thought the ring went into, and estimated the distance it had traveled. I got my detector, and climbed down for the search. The hillside was thick with tall grass, maybe 8 to 10 inches high with a lot of weeds intermingled. I began at the edge of the walkway, and worked my way down the hillside slowly pushing the grass down, and listening for even the faintest of signals. I did find many construction orientated items during the search, and kept looking, going over new ground working away from the walking path. I finally found the ring in a very thick patch of tall grass, and was able to bring it back up to Josh who was happy to see it again. A lot of work rewarded with a great smile.

Geneva contacted me regarding a ring that was lost earlier in the day at the beach. It was now night time, and she was not going to be able to meet me at the beach, so I said I could help if I was given specific directions to the area of the loss. She sent a photo of where she had been earlier plus a satellite picture with the spot circled. I let her know that I would leave right away to do the search in order to have the best possibility of a successful recovery.

I got to the beach, and it did not take me long to find the area where she had been searching. I turned on my detector and began to grid. I got to about the middle of her search area when I received a good signal. I dug with my scoop, and had a real nice looking ring. I had to contact her because I noticed it had a crack in the band, and she told me that was the way it was. I wanted to get it to her right away, and she told me she was at a restaurant, so I let her know that I would drive it right over to her. She was very happy to know that what was thought lost for good, was back again.

Engagement Ring Lost in Sand at Park in Pasadena the Day Before…Found and Joyfully Returned.

Adam contacted me about a ring his wife had lost the day before at local park. She had taken her child to the park to play, and fearing the loss of her ring, she took it off, and put it « safely » in her pocket. She also had her phone in that pocket, and her glasses too, both of which she removed in and out multiple times while her child was playing. Knowing that time is the enemy of a successful recovery, and that a day had already passed, I encouraged a search the same day. He agreed, and said his wife would meet me at the park to show me where to look.

When I arrived Stephani was waiting for me, and after some arrangements with the staff at the park, took me to the first of two areas she believed the loss occurred. I had my 11 inch coil on the detector, but brought my 6 inch coil just to be sure I could search everything. I went over the first area with some difficulty because of some of the metal around the benches and boundaries of the sand pit, and didn’t find the ring. we then went over to the other area which turned out to be a little more difficult, so I changed to the 6 inch coil, and was able to search the spot extensively. Stephani asked what I was wanting to hear, that we could search the first area again. I wanted to go over with the 6 inch coil to be sure I could get in close to the spots that had built in metal. I was working in close to one of the benches, when I received a nice solid tone, put in my pin pointer, and found her ring. When I showed her, there an outpouring of emotion, and she ran off to show her husband, and tell him the good news. It is so fun to be able to turn someone’s broken heart into a joyful one, and in that, this day was a success.

I received a call from Michelle explaining how she had lost two rings in her yard the day before. She was asking if I would be able to help her in the search for them. I let her know I could come that day, but she had ordered a metal detector, and wanted to wait for that to come, so she could search herself. I let her know that when she was ready, I would be available to come and help her. She called me later, saying she decided to forgo the detector, and asked me to come the next day, so we scheduled a time.

When I arrived at her house, she met me at the side gate, and took me to the area of the loss. She also let me know that she had found one of the rings, and that I was going to be looking for the wedding band. The grass was real nice with a thick thatch which could hide any ring that fell into it. I turned my detector on and found a small grate. I continued on, and got a real low tone in the headphones, put in the pin pointer, and there was the ring. She was impressed that the search took so little time to complete, but I have some of the best detectors you can get, and I trust my equipment when I am searching. So happy to have made her day!

Ricardo called me asking for help finding his wedding ring. He had been at the beach an hour before, and after he left his ring was missing. He wasn’t able to meet me there, but was able to give concise directions as to where he had been. I let him know I was available, and was on my way in just a few minutes. It is always important to conduct a search as soon as is possible in order to increase the possibility of a recovery.

I was able to get to the beach in good time, and using Ricardo’s directions, was able to find the area for the search. There were many people in the area, and I was thinking that they might have placed their towel over his ring. I began in the open areas between the towels trying not to disturb anyone while I searched. I made one pass down the beach, then began my way up, when in the middle of the beach I received a solid signal, dug, and had the ring. I looked a my phone, and saw that 4 minutes earlier Ricardo sent a text asking if I was having any trouble finding the beach, and my reply was « I have your ring. » which amazed him. He lived close in a nearby town, and asked if I could drop it in his mailbox.

I made it over to his house, put his ring in the mailbox, wrapped in some papers to insure it stayed where it dropped, and felt great about the search. Didn’t get to see the smile, but I know it was there.
